Check the first post few posts-they used to have links that were up to date. Other wise look for the posts Ken made as "GenTechpc".

Finally, and most officially, they can be reached down by navigating msi's website under support...it's tricky stupid. If I remember correctly you need to go through the global site..but im having a hard time remembering.

Make sure you are careful picking the bios. Different ones for different models. Different ones for win 7 and win 8 (dear god why?!?)

The windows 7 and windows 8 models have a slightly different brightness control method and touch button interface.

    Hi All,
I just took delivery of my brand new MSI GT70 ONE452US and I'm a little confused. I ran the Windows Experience Index and it get a 5.9...the graphics is what brought it down. I have a Nvidia 680M (supposedly the best possible mobile graphics card). Anyone have any ideas as to why this is so low?

I literally just unboxed it no changes yet.

No need to worry it's because it's taking the test with the Intel gpu. Nvidia optimus only uses the 680 gpu on programs demanding it to save bâttery power.

Thanks for the response 2 quick follow up questions

Is there a way to keep the settings maxed out for performance? I always use it plugged in (as I'm guessing most high end owners do)

Is there any reason to keep windows 8? Or will i be all right going to Windows 7 Enterprise?

Yes there is but Windows experience will still test the Intel gpu for sum reason. You can change it in the nvidia control panel.

They should at least for the most part since the commands for the touch bar are in the EC, you may loose the touch switch for aeroplane mode since windows 7 does not have this functionality but if you select any modern GT edition with windows 7 support and download the drivers you should be good to go.

Windows 8 is more memory efficient and is going to be the primary supported OS going forward, if you can get used to the keyboard shortcuts (windows key + X for instance) it can be quite easy to use.

Just got my Dragon Edition Thursday. Been to busy, valentines day, honey do lists this weekend.. I unboxed it lastnight. I have to say the build quality to be is great and seems a little better than the sager 9370 I had.

To top it off.. Amazon listed it with backpack and headphones. It didn't come with them, just the laptop. So I called them they said it doesn't list it. I pointed her to the page where it shows it. She offered to send another, refund completely or $250 refund to buy a bad and headphones! I took the 250 and kept the laptop! Astro a 40's here I come :)

Ill take pics and a short write up.

I think so, ended up paying $2449 for the laptop after they refunded the $250..cheaper than the black version. I couldn't be more happy. I got to turn it on lastnight and boot it up. Will make recovery disc tonight. I tooks quit a few pics lastnight in its
Virgin state. :) I will try cod2 myself in widows 8 before reloading. Just googling around people report it's a no go.

As far as bags, I'm not sure what ill get yet. That's next on my research list. :)

Ok, so after re-pasting with Antec Formula 7 I tried overclocking with Afterburner and quickly hit 93 Degrees while running the built-in Kombuster application which triggered the GPU to throttle itself. Is this normal to max out my temperature while running the Kombuster app?

Mine did the same thing when I first got it. You need to double check that the NVIDIA driver is updated. I can't remember if I had to use the MSI or the NVIDIA driver but, once I installed it I got 7.6 on the WEI score.

Played BF3 yesterday for a little while, maxed out settings, 64 player server and wireless in my breakfast nook area and it was flawless and smooth. I use MSI Afterburner for monitoring temps outside the game and would switch back and look and it maxed out at 78 (GPU). This was not cooling pad and without turbo fan on.

I would like to test the FPS but I cant quit figure out how people are showing the overlay with CPU temp, FPS and GPU temp/utilization?

So far absolutely loving this GT70 and the red Aluminum is pretty slick. I wasnt sure about it being my style ate first but, i like it alot.

This "Super Raid 0" is pretty dang fast. I think it is a great combination MSI came up with to have crazy fast raid 0 ssd and still have a bay for storage, GREAT combination.

I like the screen. The matt finish is way better than glossy, no wash i can see and plenty bright i even turned it down to about 80%.

I also would like folks to know, that I downloaded and installed the new 314.04 video drivers from Nvidia.com for the 680M. After restarting the computer, it totally screwed up the my laptop. Laptop would boot up to the tile screen, but as soon as the computer would try to go to desktop, it would reboot. I also had my 680M the one being used 100% of the time. I did create a restore point before I installed the driver, but I could not get to desktop to start the restore.
Had to start laptop in safe recovery mode and refresh windows. Safe to say, I did loose a lot. After the windows refresh, a lot was stored in a folder called Windows.old

With Windows 7 you could get into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key on bootup.

To get this feature back in Windows 8 you'll need to run the following command as administrator.

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

If you later want to remove the F8 Safe Mode feature run the following command as administrator

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

Hi All, I am just a newbie here, so pardon me to ask some basic/ stupid questions.
I just upgrade my GT70 one-276us to windows 8 pro from win 7 home premium, to accomodate more memory. Everything goes quite well, although sometime it suddently could not recognize usb deviices. But, after a restart, then it's an ok again... Hence, I would like to know whether it's wise to install firmware update on my laptop? On the website, it also states that I should not install a win 8 firmware if my laptop delivered with win 7... What should I do?
Should I update its BIOS also?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanx so much.

    Thanks for those instructions!

And may I say for the record - I hate Windows 8...only for the silly things like this they choose to disable.

Server 12 is even more "fun" if you are coming from one of the earlier server products.

    Hey everyone:

What does the GT70/GT60 have over the Alienware m17x? I have heard that the GT70 has a decent matte screen, better keyboard, and onboard sound card and speakers. (SuperRaid is a non-issue.) On the other hand, most reviews indicate that the m17x is better all-round. I suppose that the GT70's odd chassis and keyboard layout plays important roles. I got a good deal and bought the Alienware a few days ago, but I'm curious about what MSI owners think.

Well the GT60 provides top performance in a 15.6" size, something that alienware has abandoned, they also tend to offer performance per $.

hey guys...anyone with the 17.3 glossy 72% gamut chime in to give thoughts on the screen with regards to improvement over the stock matte...is the brightness the same as the stock? etc? looking to order one asap but am torn...if anyone has been able to compare or previously had an Asus g75 matte laptop and can give their thoughts on that compared to the stock matte or 72% glossy i would really appreciate it. we have an asus g75 in our house so i know what that screen looks like so if anyone could comment i would really appreciate it. want to order an msi before the $100 rebate disappears at end of Feb

Well you can get the same spec system from msi for half the price of alienware. Thats the biggest and most important thing unless money isn't an issue and your happy to pay double just to have alienware printed on your laptop.

Color performance isn't a "must" for me, it will be used mainly for gaming, web browser and office work. So that is why i was wondering about the stock matte screen and how it is in regards to brightness, color, etc? The one thing I am worried about on this computer is getting a loaded out machine only to have a dull and lifeless screen. I had a Samsung Series 7 gamer but returned it after a week due to wireless card issues and the fact I decided I wanted to spring a bit more for the 680m. The screen on the Samsung was awesome and very bright. I understand that the Samsung is probably one of the best screens around and won't get anything comparable with the MSI but anything somewhat close to that would be great. So I would pay the little extra for the 72% glossy if it gave it a little more "pop" and "brightness" in the screen. But if anyone could chime in about the brightness, color, etc on the stock matte i would appreciate it. If the stock screen is good enough, then I won't spend the money to upgrade to 72% glossy. I used the Asus G75VW stock matte as an example because we have one of those in our house already (my sons gaming computer) and I know what that looks like so if stock MSI is just as good or better than the Asus G75VW, that should be fine with me. BUT if the 72% Glossy is "that much better" than the stock i would pay that little extra for that too. I don't think I want to spend the extra $170--$190 on the 90% color gamut for what my use of the system would be. I would rather put that into a 512 SSD :). Meaker, being that you are a retailer and have access to these screens and ASUS and MSI computers, can you let me know with your direct experiance about the ASUS G75 stock matte vs the MSI GT70 stock matte and also if the glossy 72% gamut option on the MSI is "that much better". Is the brightness between the stock MSI screen and the 72% Glossy option the same as well or is one brighter than the other? I don't care about glare, it will be mostly be in doors in a controlled environment. I just want the best screen color and brightness wise that I can get without buying the 90% color gamut (which i won't purchase.) Can you give your direct opinion Meaker or anyone else with experiance? Thanks everyone, this forum has been great and I'm glad i found it!

I finally got to play some BF3 some more. Anyone seen when your playing and when you get shot the screen blinks to black real fast then the respawn windows comes right up? It all works fine otherwise. It never lacks out or blinks at all till I get shot and die. I tried the newest 314.xx drivers and the ones before the 310.xx. They both do it but it seemed like the 310
Drivers was a little faster black flash before respawn.

New machines? Ordered from where? I customized an MSI GT60 with a GTX 680m on GentechPC (with $250 in rebates) for a higher net price than this m17x (7970m).

    Sorry for diverting the thread.

It may be different over here in the UK because I made my custom gt70 for £1400. When I went to make the same spec alienware system on the Dell website it would of cost me £3000.

Hello everyone, I am a proud new owner of the gt70 myself with the 680M 4gb. I'm trying to install a new Vbios and i'm having a very difficult time.

I think my main issue is nvflash not detecting the 680M if thats possible when I made bootable Dos and had 3 files in it nvflash, cwxx, and my new vbios along with some ( x64 file if that matters).. it would say it cannot run in DOS mode.
Another issue I just found out when I run this bat file it says no driver is found? I don't know if its the same problem.
I am aware that I made a proper bootable dos with hp program and files to make it bootable..

Can someone please help me!! I really want to overclock my 680M! If anyone can give me proper updated links I would love you!
I used NVFlash 5.127. hp program to make bootdrive with proper dos, and running on nvidia drive 314.07
    My computer specs windows7 sp1, i7361qm, 680M 4gb gddr5, 16gb.. Basically the stock MSI GT70 0NE-276US.
