I've asked Svet this before on the MSI forums and he said No. Now....I'm inclined to believe him. But I'm not 100% certain that is the exact truth. I don't really want to believe that the Win7 and Win8 versions of the GT70 are any different hardware wise, as that really would make things a mess.

Anyway...just what I know about it so far. I'd love to have the UEFI bios to be quite honest.

By the sounds of it your card has had it. The laptop should be covered by msi warranty?

If I can send them the gpu alone, would you think that is possible?

And btw I fixed the CUDA/directcompute not showingin gpuz.
I also ran 3 consecutive 3dmark11 tests and here are the results along with the msi afterburner shots.

I'll be honest my score is always up and down it is usually around 6000. No score comes out the same each time. If your games perform well continuously then your cards fine. If your not happy with it still then ring the company that built it and see what they can do but make sure you dont mention any overclocking software.

I am considering buying a 17" MSI notebook. Where can I get a good deal on one; I'd like to customize the hardware options. Is Kingston HyperX 2133MHz. compatible with this machine? Also are the left and right clicks on the mouse stiff and make an audible clicking noise when pressed on? Thanks

Cloudfire was right, it wasn't the vBIOS.

I tested a GT70-0NE-276US Win7 Model with new Win8 BIOS and firmware, what I did was pulled the hard drive from GT60-0NE-403US with Win8 and installed it on the GT70-0NE-276US's secondary hard drive slot and run the 3DMark11.

3DMark 11 score on Windows 7 around 5800~6000 and can never go beyond 6000:

    3DMark11-Win7.JPG

3DMark 11 score 6459 on Windows 8 with updated BIOS and firmware:

    276US-OC1.JPG

It perform a lot better on Windows 8 without using ThrottleStop and modded BIOS but still cap at 6459, I still don't know why but could be the BIOS or the drivers installed on Windows 8 or the combination on both.

If you want maximum performance and overclocking potential you will need an unlocked EC firmware from the MSI beta forums.

It wont let me run my graphics card at 1130mhz core clocks otherwise ;)

Be aware that this has removed the maximum power limits so if you fry your brick, on your head be it.

I am very much still testing, here is my highest run so far but my CPU is only at 4ghz:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F3 score: P7802 3DMarks with TS.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5359063 with the Beta EC, NO TS.

Has anyone figured out how to have this MSI GT70 record sound that is being played through the computer like youtube and stuff? with Audacity: Download progam, it only lets me record with the build in microphone on the laptop, it seems like the Realtek sound card in this laptop, does not allow to record sound going through it? any ideas how to get this to work guys?

I am using the laptop with all the preinstalled software, so one would assume that the soundcard should work as intended no?

    Thanks Ken,
But could you provide 3dmark 11 numbers from Win8 without OC so that we are able to compare stock Win7 and stock Win8?
Did you flash updated BIOS and firmware before running initial Windows 7 3dmark11 test? or did you do that right before putting a secondary hdd from GT60-0NE-403US with Windows 8?

Here is the score without TDE and without OC:

    276US-No-OC.JPG

The Windows 7 3DMark11 score was tested a while back out of the box.

The Windows 8 score was tested with Windows 8 BIOS and Firmware updated using GT60-ONE-403US hard drive.

I see. It's definitely clear that using Windows 8 on updated system with Windows 8 BIOS and Firmware provides an ability to overclock to higher scores.
I guess, to find out what exactly helps to break the barrier we need to do the following:
    1. perform the test on stock 276US model but on Windows 8 (e.g. Ken, in case you have one more 276US box, you can try to put HDD from 403US model with Windows 8)
    2. perform the test on updated 276US model (updated BIOS and Firmware to Windows 8 versions), but on stock Windows 7 -> I'm not sure, but may be someone already tried to do that.

Personally, I think that the magic is in BIOS and/or Firmware for Windows 8 models.

    Hello.

I would like to ask few simple questions if you could help me out

I just got GT70 0NE-276US from xoticpc and it included free windows 8 with it. I got windows 7 preinstalled on it and when i try to upgrade it to windows 8 , key doesnt work, what am i supposed to do to activate it ?

I was thinking to install clean windows 8 pro, or maybe even windows 7 , i know it has been mentioned before but what are the things i should be aware of when reinstalling drivers and is there any special order or some things that dont work on windows 8.

Is there any link for windows 8 pro ISO file ?

    Thanks a lot.

Totally. Noisy onboard sound is nothing new to laptops - but it's really unacceptable.

Seems like not all of us have the issue.

I probably should have rma my machine but I started gaming and got carried away. (I had already swapped the gpu out when that was failing on arrival...wonder if they this issue is related)

I happen to love wireless headphones too...

Worse than what ur seeing. I couldn't complete any benchmarks without system hang or bsod. I could game or benchmark with the integrated Intel only. After a few days the system totally stopped recognizing the nvidia hardware. Drivers couldn't detect etc.

swapping the card wasn't too hard if you have worked inside of a computer before. The gpu doesn't completely slide out...not enough room. You pivot it out of the socket like the hinge on a door.

Only thing is, work with a magnet tool...or a magnetized screw driver. Lay a mat down or big towel so tiny screws don't bounce all over the place.

I lost a screw during the swap and it only popped out due to the random luck of shaking the case in frustration!

( and yes I had the sound issues before I shook the case :D )

Yes most MXM cards insert at an angle, means they don't move when flat and stops it shifting when in use.

sorry if this has been asked before - what is the best firmware and bios to run if doing a dual boot for win7/win8? Don't want to go full on into windows 8 without keeping windows 7 handy. I've got Windows 8 on another laptop and like it just fine, but would always want another platform for games that perform better on Win7 like borderlands2.

I am perplexed that there would be any reason that an operating system needs a specific bios/firmware, but can't claim to know much about this.

1: Can not test stock 276US with 403US hard drive because 403US Windows was installed with Win8 Firmware, the stock 276US BIOS does not have UEFI boot option.

2: Tested updated 276US with stock Windows 7 and the score didn't improve, xMar99 performed the same test on his GT60 with similar result:

    Stock settings no OC:
    276US-Win7-No-OC.JPG

    Thanks Ken,
It seems that updating BIOS and Firmware from Win8 models to 276US Win7 model doesn't help much.
Looks like Windows 8 should be installed as well.

That is not very good news for 276US owners I think. At least for those who are eager to keep Windows 7.
Looks like much better way is to flash svl7's unlocked VBIOS.
    What do you think?

And one more thing, is it possible to revert the changes, can I flash stock BIOS and EC to 276US back after flashing BIOS/EC Windows 8 versions?

Yeah the BIOS and firmware doesn't help at all.

I would recommend follow xMAR99's guide to get best performance out of your GT60/GT70 with OC:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...w-gtx-680m-owner-s-lounge-11.html#post9007184

Just make sure only OC when you are playing games and reset core and VRAM clock if you are not gaming.

Just got my 276US in the mail this week and so far I love it. One stuck pixel on arrival but a little use and its working great!!
Is it worth getting windows 8 upgrade/rebate since I bought it before Dec31? From what I have seen I don't like windows 8 but if it I update everything (bios, firmware, win 8) will it get the faster scores based on the what Ken is showing with the 403US hard drive in it or will it still be getting the same scores as with windows 7? And if I can't stand windows 8 with the new Bios can I reinstall Windows 7?

    Thanks
    Philip

Hello! I've just bought new GT 70 0NE, first week everything was fine, but now, when I rest my hands on notebook, I feel vibrations. Even worse, when I put notebook on my table, it starts to produce low noise, like subwoofer. Sometimes vibrations stop, sometimes start again, and it's little annoying. What is it? Is it normal? Should I return notebook to the store (I have 2 week moneyback) or medium to low vibratrions after first week of service are normal?
