What temp do you have in your room?

I've noticed a huge and obvious temperature rise of 5-8 ° because of my ambient temps.

Battery need to be plugged in all the time, it has no affect on battery life at all. Li-ion batteries lost their capacity regardless of the method of use, but without battery your laptop can break because of any power surge.
BTW update your bios and firmware.

there's about 5-10% of performance improvement if you have the battery plugged while gaming.

AC is what feeds the system. Laptop should work just fine as long as the its connected to power. Single battery cant feed the system. You should be fine as long as you plug in the AC

In fact I noticed that playing with the battery unplugged the laptop stays cooler than with the battery plugged so there should be some kind of performance difference.

Check out what I've just said about Nos feature.

You have about 10% extra power with the battery plugged.

You can easily check this by running some benchmarks (huge CPU performance difference) or playing games, with and without. It obviously runs hotter too.

I do not know why. I just updated the bios, but the problem still exists.

    thanks

    Get your facts right!
Battery is utilized to allow this: "NOS is the MSI unique feature to use Hybrid Power design, combined with CPU Boost from Intel, GPU Boost from NVIDIA graphics and Cooler Boost 2 from MSI special design, this feature could brings much more performance enhancements to over 10% or even more"

Hi, I bought my Ge60 apache a few days ago and I´ve got some issues with it. Was wondering if anyone else have these problems and if so how to fix them.
So, first of most of the games I try to ply either crash or have some sort of graphic issue. For example when I play planetside 2 I can play for 20-60 sec before i crashes, but if I try natural selection 2 it works fine until I fire the weapon ingame, the screen starts flickering black and I can only see the weapon muzzelflame.Only games I´ve played that works are diablo III and hearthstone.
I´ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers several times, downloaded them from the official MSi site and the Nvidia site, but nothing works. Cleared it completely today and reinstalled the OS but with no success.
Is the GPU faulty and should I just send this one back?

    Appreciate any kind of help

Is the game using the correct graphics card? Sometimes some games don't pick up your Nvidia graphics card by default and will be using the other, much less powerful integrated one.

Right click the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. Click Manage 3D Settings, then the Program Settings tab. Scroll down to Planetside 2, then change option 2 to 'High performance NVIDIA processor', apply, and try again.

Let us know how you get on...I've just had a look on Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements and you should have no problems at all with Planetside 2 (I have an Apache Pro).

I think I've blown one of the front speaker on my GE60 Apache Pro, does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Are they easy to fit? I've had a bit of experience with desktops, replacing fans, RAM, Graphics cards...I assume it's not going to be much more taxing than that? Cheers! :)

Monitor the color of LED on the power button, if it's white or blue then it's using integrated graphics, but if it's red/orange then it's using discrete graphics.

    Hey guys :)
I've been reading this thread for a while now and I wanted your opinion.
I'm considering the GE60 Apache (850m), but I'm not sure after all the comments about temperature problems.
Do you think it is a good purchase? Or would you recommend me something else (XMG A504 is interesting too)?

I'm buying it in the UK, but I'll have to leave the country for at least 1 year after that, so I wouldn't have warranty support.

    Thanks!

The temps on GE60 Apache isn't that bad, but it can be quite warm to something like 70-80 Celsius during usage.

XMG A504 is a Clevo, and below is its review from notebookcheck.

But these are internal temperatures, right?
I own a Clevo barebone and temperatures are higher than that, but I don't have any problems.
I was going for the MSI because I imagined it would have a higher quality. Got a little worried when I read this thread.

Don't worry about it, it's the same thing as Clevo.
If there's a problem with the product then MSI won't even release it.

I have no idea if I made the right choice but I swapped a Gigabyte P34G V2 for MSI GE60 Apache Pro.
Both suffer from over heating but the Gigabyte palm rest and keyboard does not overheat which is why I am thinking if I made right choice.
MSI has more storage options so thats why I chose it but trackpad coming apart video is worrying.

Do all Apache Pros come with Blu ray or do some regions like UK have DVD drives?
Also can you replace it with 2.5" SSD?
    Thanks

Im slightly annoyed at MSI website as they list only one set of specs for Apache Pro which is different according to which country and spec you go for.
I am also disappointed in no wireless ac on this. The Gigabyte has AC as default.
Should have my Pro this weekend though.

    What country are you in?
The US office has listed all of the spec in details via MSI Notebook Official Website.
The SKUs offered by the rest of offices are harder to tell of their configuration.

    I'm in the UK.
Missing wireless AC on a 2014 laptop at this price is quite shocking. UK website also lists it as windows 8 instead of 8.1.

Got my GE60 but it has a faulty screen!
I keep getting black line across the screen and brightness lowers every now and again.
It happens even in BIOS so its not a driver fault.
Should I call MSI or shop I bought it from?

In that case go and ask your shop for a new one. If it's Amazon or something like that you must do it with them.

    MSI usually repairs faulty laptops.

Its a annoying situation for me as I bought it using finance agreement where you are only allowed to ship to billing address which for me is parents house 3 hours away! They got the box there and I got the laptop here so will need to go back there next weekend and the store can collect it week after and then re-ship so then another 3 hour journey back that weekend. So wont have new laptop for another 2 weeks!

just a silly question: I use laptop (GE60 Apache) for daily task (~12hrs/ day) at work (MS Office, Web browser and Programming stuffs). Sometimes I play hardcore 3D games at night, too. Do I abuse my laptop too much? I have an old laptop which can be use for work, but it's quite slow :(

    Hello everyone.

I have been considering getting this laptop for a while now but a few things leave me a little uncertain about it. I'm not someone who usually plays intensive games but even so I'd like the option to be available to me so I am very eager to get a laptop that boasts the specifications that this particular model does. If no-one minds then I'd like to ask for current owners' assistance with helping me answer a few questions that are bothering me.

First and foremost, the trackpad. I have been using laptops for a long time and it took me quite some time to actually venture into the realm that is PC gaming. As a result, to date I have been gaming by using the trackpads on my laptops as opposed to mice and its something that I would very much like not to change. I heard that some people fixed the issue with the trackpad rattling and behaving erratically by adjusting a metal pin of some sort by opening the casing. Has anyone here tried that? If so, was it effective and did the fix last long before it needed adjusting again?

Also, so I can get an idea of how "sluggish" the trackpad really is, could anyone with an Apache Pro Ge60 please do the following and report the results for me?

-Starting from the edge of the screen, drag the cursor horizontally to do one full swipe across the trackpad at a slow speed(take no longer than a second)

-Repeat the same process from above with a quick swipe

...and report the distance that the cursor traveled across the screen in both instances.

The second question is a bit more general but is born from the concerns people have expressed about the laptop's heating. Is applying thermal paste a relatively simple procedure and would you recommend it? If so, would you recommend it in general or just under certain circumstances(i.e playing high intensity games/notable performance decrease/certain temperatures exceeded).

And finally, if I do purchase this laptop then I will almost certainly buy it from a foreign shop such as Germany or Hungary where the laptop's price(including shipping) is significantly cheaper than here in Ireland or the UK. Unfortunately, this means that I will be getting a different keyboard than what I am used to. I contacted MSI support regarding the issue but the wait is leaving me a bit anxious and impatient. Does anyone know if it would be possible to purchase a replacement keyboard/key caps so that I could get around this issue?

Thank you very much for your time and especially so if you can offer any assistance.

This is, what I really would like to know too. The heating is (for me) a real problem. After playing a few hours of world of warcraft or d3, the laptop (i.e GPU and CPU) heats up up to 85-90°C... the backside is still cool, but the keyboard on the left side up to the space bar is getting really warm. I'm worried about that. Don*t parts take damage while being that hot for a few hours?

Also, i have some issues with my logitech mx518 mouse plugged in while playing. in world of warcraft, sometimes, when i click to move the camera, the mouse is "going crazy" like turning to all sides. Any advice? Thanks in advance

The notebook is normal at this temperature range, due to a smaller heatsink and better performing GPU.
If you want the system to run cooler, then you can switch to a better thermal paste, or add a notebook cooler to drive more airflow.
