Hi I was thinking on getting the MSI GE60 2PE APACHE PRO with the geforce 860M, but I really want to use it with 3d Vision and my projector, and I'm not sure if it can be used with it, does the MSI GE60 support it? To check it out, basically check the Nvidia control panel and see if the stereoscopic 3d control panel is available like this: http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-fi...nents-files/3519/2047.driver_5F00_control.jpg, if it's not supported the stereoscopic 3d vision simply won't be there. Please I would be really grateful if someone can update me on this,

can someone help me please, I have recently purchased the MSI GE60 laptop and I want to fiddle around with the keyboard backlight. I know that there are the 5 modes on the easy access button, however I don't like these options and would like to set something myself. Any idea of how to get a hold of some sort for Keyboard LED manager ????

Hi! I just recently bought the GE60 2OE-223XES from Amazon, it arrived home today.

But I have a big problem. I can't get past the boot screen, the screen with the white MSI logo. I tried tu press Esc to see the load screen, or Del to enter the bios, but nothing respond. Any thoughts on this would be highly appreciated...

    Thanks.

Is it this Msi GE60 2OE-223XES - Ordenador portátil de 15.6" (Intel Core i5-4200M, 4 GB de memoria RAM, 500 GB de disco duro, FreeDOS), Negro - Teclado QWERTY español: Amazon.es: Informática
Looks like it does not come with Windows installed "Sistema operativo: FreeDOS" So you'll have to install it yourself.

    Yep, that's it.

It does not come with Windows, but that doesn't mean that it comes without OS, it should have FreeDOS installed. But, ok, let's say that there is no OS... i put a Windows 8 DVD in the DVD drive and the setup doesn't load. "Ok, maybe it doesn't have the DVD as primary boot"...as I said, I can't even enter the BIOS, so...

    Nothing. It doesn't respond...

By the way, if it doesn't get past the POST screen, as it seems to be, should CTRL+ALT+DEL work? If that doesn't work, could be the keyboard? If it is the keyboard, and I plug a usb keyboard and it doesn't work, would that discard the keyboard? xD

It sounds like the data cable for the keyboard was not seated properly. Worst case scenario is that the keyboard is DOA and needs replaced under warranty (or you can exchange it through Amazon if you're within the return policy).

Either way, sorry to hear about it!

Yes, but you will have to find an unlocked BIOS with the option visible.

i been searching but i cant seem to find any.
there was a thread here but the link was removed..

i really like this laptop but playing a game for a few it gets so hot you cant rest your hand on the palmrest lol..

the cpu is directly under it..

looking at the heat sink, the cpu has only 1 heat pipe.

i put some AS5 on it, it helped a bit.. stock it had some dried up paste and it was prob 2mm thick at least.
i also used the intel program to undervolt and underclock the boost.. it seemed to help some.

i wish there was a company that makes aftermarket heatsinks for laptops.. its really an untapped market.

You can ask Svet at MSI forum to help you to create such BIOS for you.
Heatsink isn't universal, and tooling/mold is expensive to make so it's not really worth it.

You can use IXTU undervolt and reduce the processor cache ratio so it doesn't clock up as high under load.

Just snagged one of these thanks to the $100 rebate and them coming down in price, hopefully it gets here Thursday.

Since I saved a few dollars, I'm going to add an SSD to it, or possibly replace the HDD entirely. What are my best options here? Adding an msata SSD or is there room to add an SSD in the machine? I don't really have a need for the HDD as a 250gb ssd will be plenty and they're only around 140 right now on amazon. Any thoughts?

It hasn't arrived yet so I haven't the chance to get a proper look at the inner workings.

If you can go the single drive route, that wight be a simpler solution for you. You'll lose the disk space the mechanical drive offers, but as long as you can get by with what the SSD offers, it will treat you very well. :) And you can always hold onto the mechanical drive and use either a SATA to USB adapter or put it in a enclosure for portable USB mass storage.

so even after dropping the speed down to 30 and the volts -80 it still gets to 90c when playing games..

its not the gpu because that is in the mid 60s to 70.

ive re-applied thermal paste twice and it hasnt brought the temps down.

Hi all, new to the forum. Had GE60-20E for over 9 months now and am pretty much satisfied with it. Although currently am trying to upgrade the storage using msata Samsung 840evo as the main OS drive. Problem is given that the last laptop I had was 7 years ago and back then there was no embedded OEM key, I had not thought of doing recovery disk backup when I first use this laptop. Since then I had partitioned my hddisk which causes the MSI BurnRecovery to fail and adding salt to wound, so is the F3 hotkey and windows recovery (factory default) giving error "recovery media not found" etc although using EASUS Partition Magic indicate the *Bios_Rvy and *WinRE tools partitions are still intact.

I had repartitioned my hdd accordingly to what I think is the factory default but still the errors persisted. So the question is, other than obtaining a fresh copy of the same OEM Win8 installation disk, are there any method to help me salvage the built in recovery media and use it to install win8 onto my m.sata? I had google and the least painful way for me is through the win8 RTM route which I would consider as a last resort since I would pretty much like the hassle free OEM install route. Any advice given is deeply appreciated.

You can use MSI BurnRecovery utility to generate the recovery discs, then use the recovery media to restore OS back to your PC.
The product key is embedded in the BIOS so you will never need to use it manually since the OS will detect it automatically.
However, if you attempt to do a clean OS with a genuine installation disc which prompts you for a product key then that means you need a different edition of the disc.
MSI's product key is intended for RETAIL version of disc but not OEM version.

Looking to buy this laptop but had a few questions.

Is the fan issue fixed? I can't seem to get a definitive answer. The whole power up and down every 10 seconds.

How is the heat? Some say great some say terible.

    Thanks so much
    Joe

The fan issue can be resolved with the latest EC firmware with revised fan table.
The heat is alright, but after running games for awhile you can feel the warmth from underneath the keyboard.

hi Kevin..thank you for replying..unfortunately I had tried using the MSI BurnRecovery utility but I am not even able to launch the software..upon clicking it will prompt me "Your computer's disk partitions are NOT factory default configuration. The application cannot be processed"..F3 recovery will yield "Recovery environment cannot be found" etc..:as have mentioned..I did resize my partition upon using the laptop for the first time w/o doing any recovery discs..so yeah..I am properly fudge right? My fault I know..I was hoping if anyone had experienced the same and found another way out other than sending it back to the service centre and pay em to fix it..

Could you clarify your last statement?..because I did tried downloading the windows 8 copy from windows and when I entered my MSI product key that I extracted using Belarc Advisor..it prompted that the key would not work with Retail version of windows 8..therefore I assume it is only for OEM windows 8 core single language..

You can always purchase a copy of the original recovery discs from MSI.
Regarding the key, it is what we had encountered so yours can be different.

    Hello

I have MSI GE60 2OC laptop and I have that MSI Enabler made by Dufus but it isn't working anymore. I've tried run it as administrator and Windows in safe mode but nothing seems to help.

    msienabler.png

I know that he has removed links to download it since someone did manage use it to broke his system but I use it only to disable Intel Turbo Boost and Hyper Threading since game I play, can't use more than single thread so it runs a lot better with HT disabled. About of Turbo Boost, I play in ESL and it doesn't allow to use Turbo Boost in matches or you get banned from ESL.

I can't use any programs to disable those since you get banned ingame if you have any overclocking softwares opened, so yeah.. I loaded default settings in bios so all the hidden options disappeared again and now I'm stuck.

    Any ideas?

yeah i wish there was a way to turn that off..
i think it would really help with the heat issue..

i tried the Intel utility and you can turn down the clock multiplier. but you cant turn off HT.

there is a guy on another forum that is supposed to be able to unlock the bios, but he wont post how.. you have pay him donation for him to send you a bios..

I kinda understand that nobody want to do work for free, totally. But is this Dufus officially out of the business or is he still here? My major problem is that MSI_Enabler doesn't work anymore.

Have you tried Throttlestop 6? I can't remember is there way to disable HT but I think it may be worth of trying

Most of time, that's a dead pixel which cannot be resolved.
There's an utility called " UDPixel" that you can use to try to unstuck it if it is a stuck pixel. But if it's not a stuck pixel then it cannot be unstuck.

The way I've heard the most luck is by gently massaging it with the tip of your finger.

Also try the UDPixel that Kevin linked above. You can also try JScreenFix http://www.jscreenfix.com/

When the pixel dies, it can be white, or red, or other colors.
They aren't always stuck, but dead.

I personally, never update the bios / firmware unless there is a known issue (that affects me) that the update would address. While 95% of the time this update goes without a hitch; any potential for catastrophic failure is too much for me unless there is no other alternative.

So I received my laptop from RMA some days ago. It was just coz the plastic hinge of the screen, broke.
When I received it, I had some Windows problems. So I reinstalled it 3 times, the last one from a different ISO (all were official 8.1 windows isos). The last time seemed to work fine, until I noticed I had a problem. Everytime I turn off the laptop, and turn it on, the nvidia card (765M GTX) isnt recognized. It doesnt appear in device manager at all, or it appears as unknown 3D device.I have to uninstall intel gfx drivers, nvidia drivers, and run Display Driver Uninstaller , so the drivers recognize the card again. But if I shutdown the laptop, then I have to repeat this process again...
I tried different drivers, updated other component drivers from Station-Drivers - News , I have the latest BIOS, etc..

When the card is being recognized, it works fine, no overheating nor artifacts in games.

    What can it be?

Have you updated the BIOS and EC firmware?
Also, which driver set (Intel/Nvidia) did you use? MSI-stock? Or the latest from Intel/Nvidia website directly?

You also reverted both drivers to MSI-stock ones right?
If problem persists, then it might be associated with the motherboard or graphics card module.
