    Hey all!
I've been using my gx 620 from dec of 2008 and it has now 7% of battery loss.
I want to buy a 9 cell one for extend the runtime from 1:45 min but i can't find it anywhere.
Can someone post a link where can i buy it? Or a part number or something that can help me finding it.
I'm in Hungary, but i have paypal so international shops are accepted.
    Thx.

I also have this exact issue with my GX620.

    * OEM system operation was stable
    * System begins to boot up with high pitched squealing noise and screen throughput seems to be interrupted - grey screen i.e. power but no image
a couple 4 second button reboots got me back to normal.

But the problem obviously won't go away - Clearly a defective video-card.

Kind of problem that makes me want to go back to Dell.

hi, i'm considering buying this laptop but i have a few questions:

    1. Can the lighted media control above the keyboard be turned off? it looks kind of tacky when lit IMO. Or is there a cable inside that i can reach be unplugged?

    2. does it have a backlit keyboard?

    3. how easy is it to open up and upgrade?

    4. how often does the fan on this machine go off? i mainly just web browse, no flash video, and i want a quiet laptop doing those things. My Dell Studio 1555's fan goes off at 42C, cools to 30C, then goes off at 42C, repeat

    5. how are the speakers? will it be better than the Dell Studio 1555 (with subwoofer) sicne it is Dolby Digital quality?

    6. Is it true the battery life is only 1.5-2hr?

    Thanks! :)

Hello all, I just got this laptop a few months back, and I'm very satisfied with its performance - except for the battery life, but that can be fixed easily once I get a 9-cell pack for this.

Anyways, I've noticed on occasion that whenever on I'm battery power, my graphics card speeds become underclocked. I'm told that it's part of the laptop's power saving features. I'm not too fond of this feature though.

Is there any way to disable this feature?

Edit: I've turned off the PowerMizer feature in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but it still happens.

    1. I believe the lights cant be switched off, the whole panel runs off 1 cable.

    2. It doesnt have a backlit keyboard

    3. Its very easy, there are two access wholes (or what you call it), one covers HDD, and other covers CPU, GPU, Chipset, Mini-PCI card slots, but they have a warranty sticker.

    4. The fan runs all the time, but during idle and light usage its whisper quiet, my Idle temps are 33-35 C for the CPU, ~41 C for the GPU.

    5. The speakers are quite weak, the Dolby thing means it has output for high-quality sound.

    6. Battery life depends on usage (i guess you know it already ;) ), i get 2hrs 10 mins - 2hrs 30 mins with wireless on, brightness at 2/9, balanced Vista mode and 6 cell battery.

    Hope i could help!

Really? I thought you can only switch off Intel Speedstep in the BIOS, but i have an older version, 1.0s. Can someone with 1.0z confirm this please?

Yes you can only enable/disable speed-step. There is no option to disable/enable GPU power-management via the bios. The GPU is through the installed software.

It's just reporting the supported number of DRAM slots likely as my GT725(MSI-1722) does the same. The only way to "fix" this would be for them to have a database with the exact supported hardware for each motherboard & revision ID, and then people to supply the data.

Yeah, I think that's for an external TV antenna, but they don't ship a tuner in the US.

2nd pic: no idea, maybe an option card?

i dont think so, the heatsink wouldnt fit/would be too small to handle all that heat (see the GT627's one, thats better), the power brick may not be able to provide enough power, and also the BIOS support...

It is possible to put a GTX 260m in it, you would need to modify the heat sink, No one has tried this yet so we are not sure if it would post and boot into windows. I am sure someone will try it sooner or later.. I had a 1722 and a 9800m GT worked but I didnt have the proper heat sink so I could not test it fully..

It did boot but shut off due to overheating.. I was going to make a mod but then bought my GT725 and sold the 9800m GT and the 1722. I am trying to convince my brother in buying a GTX 260m for his 1722.. I know that the 9800m GTS that was forsale awhile back on NBR would have more then likely worked in a 1722 but it was sold..

Did your 1772 have a quad? Quads use 45W, and most of nvidia's high end cards use 75W, totaling 120w (the total wattage of the powerbrick).

At this point its safe to say a 9800m GS, GT, GTS 160m, 4850 will definitly work with a heatsink mod.

So your 9800m GT was able to boot into windows, but it shut down because of temps? I really need to be certain because I am planning on buying one soon.

Well I am not going to lie about it, It booted into windows and after 5 seconds it shut down and I could feel the heat pouring out of it. If you do this make sure you have a proper fitting heatsink or something will get damaged from heat..

I had a few questions regarding the multimedia buttons on the laptop.

First of all, what software are the buttons compatible with? I've seen that they work with Windows Media Player so far but I have no interest in using that program. Ideally, I would like to know if it is possible to get the programs working with either the Zune software or iTunes even.

Is it possible to reprogram these buttons to have a different function, such as volume control?

Also, how exactly does one go about reprogramming the P1 button?

    Thanks in advance!

I cant give you a full list of players that support it, heres the list of media players I use, they are all compatible:
KMP Player, VLC, Winamp, GOM Player, PowerDVD, (Windows Media Player).
I tried to get Quicktime to use them, but i couldnt, i dont know if it supports them.

As to reprogramming, I dont know, i think you would have to mess around with SCM or EC Firmware, but Im not sure.

P1 Button only works if you have SCM installed. Right click SCM in taskbar, and choose User Defined Button (i think), and there you can set which program you want to start when you press it.

You have to configure some of the players to support the media keys, VLC is one of them.

Anyone experience heat or durability issues with the 15% or 20% overclock? When I say heat, I mean upwards of 80C and when I say durability, I mean your CPU died of exhaustion.

MSI made it SO easy to just push a button to OC...I want to have it running all the time, but not if it'll reduce the lifespan of my CPU...

If you have the turbo on and are gaming a few hours without a cooler it might reach 90c. When I had mine it never went above 88c no matter what I was doing. As long as the CPU does not over heat it will not effect the life span of it. The GX620 is a great laptop, very little keyboard flex, strong build quality, very upgradable also. Hope this was helpful..

one thing to note for those who buy the 620 or 1651 and have the upgrade to win7. if you flash the bios to anything prior to 1.0z you will loose the slic table in the bios to activate win7 oem wise. anything prior have the slic for vista pre installed in the 620 bios but not for win7 so your win7 will go to non activated status after removing 1.0z...

just wanted people to know since they were still asking about 1.0s with the options in it. for 1.0s it will not automatically activate the oem version for you

    There is an easy fix

Watch this video on how to install a spacer (Scotch dobule sided foam tape) between the keyboard and the laptop chassis:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5294724954182930778#

I did this to my gx620, and the keyboard is much firmer, it is much better to type on. MSI should have installed a spacer between the keyboard and the chassis...

Anyone know how to keep the stupid rubber feet attached?

hey everyone on msi driver update page there's 2 version of drivers:

TV Tuner Drivers for GX620 (Digital)
    and
TV Tuner Drivers for GX620 (Hybrid)

what is the difference between those 2?
