One is for a digital only tuner and the other is for a hybrid (analog/digital combo).

If you purchased and installed a tuner from msi in the usa the only one that was offered that I am aware of was the hybrid. The drivers on the website I am pretty sure are the same version that is on the CD shipped with your tuner. They have not been updated.

The serial number is usually in the battery slot. Remove the battery and you should see it on the chassis. The serial number should also be on the label on the carry box that has the handle.

    Hi everyone,

I just got an MSI GX620, and I am pleased with it except for one BIG issue: the DVD burner is complete rubbish. It's the Optiarc AD-7560S with SX01 firmware. I simply cannot get it to burn DVDs properly, it always produces coasters around the 90% burn mark with Alcohol 120%/IMGBurn, etc. The choice of program used for burning really doesn't matter, it stops burning randomly close to the end of the disc burn.

For background, I had an Asus F3SV with the HL-DT-ST GSA-T20L drive and it was BULLETPROOF. It burned hundreds of the same blank media as I am using right now with NO problems whatsoever.

I am willing to swap out the drive, but then I learned that this computer uses a SATA motherboard connector. I have searched Google till I went blue in the face, but I haven't found many SATA slimline burners except for an Intel one, and the LG CT10N, which has BD read support, and is really expensive. My options now:

    1) I still have my beloved T20L, which is IDE. Is there ANY way of adapting the IDE drive to fit the SATA connector on the motherboard? Will this work? Has it been done?

    2) Buy a new, good drive...I don't need BD read support, so the CT10N is a waste of money. Is there a GOOD, RELIABLE, BULLETPROOF DVD burner that is both slimline and SATA??? There really don't seem to be many around for some reason, despite the fact that SATA is replacing IDE as the connector of choice on the new laptop motherboards.

Thanks for your help...this issue is really driving me up the wall, since I burn lots of discs and now I can't even burn 1 without problems.

You probably have a hardware failure with the optical drive. These drives work perfectly. If you have a GX620 pre-configured system I would suggest calling msi and setup an rma for a replacement drive.

    Hi,

This might be a good option, but I can't go without my laptop, so I will see if they will take just the drive back. The service centre is in Toronto, I am further east in Kingston.

Regarding the previous poster's question, it's good to see that your experience has been very positive. I use Fujifilm DVDs (RITEK RIDATA), Verbatim CDs (CMC) and Memorex DVD DLs, all of which worked flawlessly multiple times with the GSA-T20L. Plus, Alcohol 120% shows this drive as "0:1" which I believe means it is unable to make identical copies of some discs. I could be wrong.

    Hello,

I have been lurking around here for a while now. I have a GX620 for about 4 months now. I noticed someone had put a 3870 Mobility in a GX720. How hard would it be to upgrade my 9600m to a 3870 Mobility? I have all the parts here to do the upgrade and I am going to try it. I even have copper to change the heatsink. What I am wondering is will this fit. I guess I will not know until I give it a try. I will keep you posted on the progress when I start this project.

    Thank you,

    William.

It should fit just fine, not to be harsh, but several people say they will be back and never do. Hope it works.

    Ok,

I managed to get this project up and running. I did a benchmark with alittle overclock to the cpu and gpu. It did not run hot. It stayed at 76c through the test. The 9600m feels like an IGP compared to the Mobility 3870. I will do more tests when I come home from work.

I couldn't find info on this, the PM45 chipset in the gx620 says that it supports ddr3, even though it comes with ddr2.

Will ddr3 fit/work in the gx620, and is it a viable upgrade?

    Thanks

    -edit

Looks like it will not fit.

No it will not fit, the PM45 supports DDR2 and DDR3 depending on what it comes with. The GX620 only uses DDR2.

Hello folks. I've had my msi gx620 for a few months now. About two months ago, I noticed that after waking it up from being idle that the wireless was not functioning. The light on both the front of the notebook and the touch sensitive toggle were lit, but Windows said the wireless adapter was turned off. I simply reset the notebook and it worked after that.

However, today it happened again. I was unable to get it to work after a restart and now I'm kind of confused.

Windows diagnostics says the adapter is turned off, which it isn't according to the lights. I've got another pair of laptops on the wireless network, so I know that the signal itself isn't the issue. Currently, the gx620 is on a wired connection that works just fine.

My experience with laptops is pretty limited. If the wireless card is, in fact, busted somehow, can I just pop the thing open and install another like I would in a PC?

Thanks. I'll keep fiddling with it (I heard something about sending it into hibernate mode) before I buy one.

[edit] Yep, putting it into and out of hibernate did the trick. Go figure.

99% chance it won't fit. ddr2 and ddr3 have different connections on the motherboard. But I see you already figured that out yourself... ;)

Yes sorry. I have recently sold that notebook with the stock 9600m. It worked fine, no issues. I have the 3870 and it works like new. It fits the GX620 but it is very tight and required a diffrent heatsink assembly. I was going to purchase a 1722 and use the 3870 in that but the deal went south so I plan to sell the 3870 and just use my desktop as it fits my needs.

I made a heatsink assembly. I reused the copper tube and attached a copper plate and fastened it. Worked good. No I do not have the heatsink. I just have the card. I will take offers on it. Only thing is I do not use paypal or ebay. I would do local pick up, check, or money order.

You just download then, extract and run the setup. If its 64 bit it dont matter, just look for the setup in the folder and run it.

Hey I find a way to re-activate the on-screen indicators and the ECO/Turbo Mode, the solution is really easy indeed just go to the MSI web look for your notebook and click in utilities, download and install system control manager and thats all

If you get the heatsink from a GT627 or GT628 (rkcomputer has them) then you can upgrade the GPU to an MXM 2.1 type III/HE card.

A 9800m GS and 160m should be perfect.

I went from a 9800m GS to a 9600m GT and then to an FX 3700M.

The 3700m is going to be very hot, so you should probably aim for something like a GTX 260m or GTX 280m.

With the CPU, you can overclock it 15-20% with the turbo button (depends on the bios version). You can also use setFSB to overclock and even setPLL:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...clocking-methods-examples-84.html#post7153216

I can try to help you with setpll.

All of the CPUs you have listed should work fine.

    Other GPU options:
ATI mobility 3870 (need to cut the heatsink a bit to fit).
ATI mobility 4850 (need to cut the heatsink a bit to fit).
    9800m GTX
    9800m GT
    9800m GTS
    8800m GTX
    FX 2800M
    FX 3600M

You can overclock the 9600m GT. Try using MSI afterburner or mod the vbios with nibitor.
