Means That they remove the OC from the bios but you can Overclock by pressing Turbo button , Turbo button works when you install MSI System Control Manager (SCM) utility
-
yeah they removed all other fun otions also. i dont see a difference so far are you using the 1.0u yet? wonder why it says wrong version before flashing now also?
-
yes i flashed my GX620 with 1.0u
but OC bios options was fun like you said , i think they remove it because this bios are used to flash other non-gaming msi notebooks like the PX600 Prestige Collection -
flashed back to 10s the system feels way more responsive and seems a lot faster for some reason
-
anyone have any time to play with this new bios? i have been away and only had afew minutes last night. i reverted back to the 10s till i have more time and ill be away most of this week it looks like.. wondering who had time to play with this one
-
The only thing I care about is an option to switch the fn and ctrl key. Nobody every got back to me in that post so I don't know if the modified bios screws everything up.
-
yeah i ended up not using it and i flashed back right away to the 10s stock one because i had a lot of stuff on the system i could not afford to loose if it caused isses

So what's the consensus on the new BIOS?
I can't use turbo at the moment thanks to my Merom, but I'd rather not lose the functionality for when I have the money (and a need) to upgrade to a Penryn.
If I got to 1.0U, will I lose all OC ability, or will it still work by hitting the Turbo button?
And what else is lost in the BIOS by going to 1.0U? -
it still works with the turbo button but you have no options with 10s you had a 15% or 20% option and you could set all your ram timings and select 667 or 800 etc this new one gives you NOTHING at all. basically only to pick the boot order and a few intel settings for the cpu and thats it
-
That's disappointing, thanks for letting the rest of us know. Unless MSI reverses their decision to 'dumb down' the BIOS, it appears 1.0S will be the last 'good' BIOS for this platform.
-
yeah this is basically a dell bios at least those are about the only options in it.. sucks because im sure they fixed things for a reason.. why they could not give us the same bios without the power stuff sucks

if i have time tonight ill shoot a few screenshots of it unless some one else does first im very time limited right now though for the week since i had a family issue that i had to take care of the last few days and i had my shop closed.. im making up for all that work now this week.

My friend has a GX620 and his wireless connection keeps disconnecting. Does anyone else experience this issue with their GX620? Is it possible it may be a driver issue?
-
new bios has been released... updated to 1.0v... wonder if the new bios has more tweakable features?
Update MRC code to Ver:2.6

Please see this thread about the new bios and the features, Thanks!!

no the features are gone now the guy at msi said they were not supposed to be in there in the first place and they have now pulled them and most likely will not come back

Does anyone know were to get the Vista x64 drivers for the GX620? I used to get them from here:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1529
but now they all say "Windows XP/ Vista 32bit". Do these drivers work for 64bit too?
Thanks in advance! -

Hi. Im sorry if im late on this, but was there ever a vid driver that worked without problems on the gx620?
I havent been here a couple of months or so. Last time the drivers out gave the gx620 problems. So i stuck with the ones that came with the laptop.
any word on this? Thanks. -
Hi!
Recently I decided to undervolt my GX620, not that i have any problem with temps (on the contrary), but i thought CPU can never be cold enough, and it also helps lower GPU temps, and i dont mind the 133MHz downclock.
I have a two questions:
-Has anybody tried this with the GX620/1651?
-How would it effect the turbo button's funcionality? Does turbo increase
voltages regardless of what I set in RMClock?
Thanks in advance! -
hi i just registered about couple minutes ago but I've been a longtime lurker, I've been contemplating on getting the GX620-001US but i have a few important questions that I've been scourging the internet for but to no avail! first off, what are the main differences between this model and the others besides the colour?
Im planning on purchasing this off newegg.ca, however upon inspection of MSI's site, they state that their 3 year limited warranty on their notebooks is only covered in the states, does this void me of warranty purposes?(even though newegg.ca is a branch of newegg.com operating in canada).
also, newegg.ca's specifications for the laptop state their is NO bluetooth, is this true? and finally, does it come with vista home premium? as im interested in the upgrade to windows 7 upon release. thanks again! -
Some questions I can answer, It does come with bluetooth and Vista home premium 32 bit.

Greetings,
Can anyone give me a comparison of reliability and capability between the GX620 (xoticpc Force 3551) and the Sager NP2096? I was planning to purchase the Sager but recently saw that the MSI is on sale. Any opinions or guidance would be appreciated.
thanks -
anyone who has this product in canada have any experience of MSI customer support/RMA on the canadian side of the border?
-
One other thing the force 3551 is only a barebone model of a msi gx620. So in this case just go with the cheaper model. -

My GX620-098us arrived yesterday. So far, I'm really happy with the performance, and my only issues are pretty minor: The keyboard is a little mushy (although, I'll take it since my other system, an HP dv8000t, has a nice keyboard that misses keystrokes), the FN/CTRL keys being switched, and the DVD drive is pretty noisy. Oh, and I'm still getting used to Vista, but that's not MSI's fault.
Installing the Synaptics driver helped a lot, since I hate the tap feature (I'm always accidentally clicking on things I don't mean to).
I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can answer...
Other than the TV Tuner, can the Mini-PCI slot at the front be used for anything else? Turbo Cache? SSD? I'd love to be able to put a 64gig PCI SSD card in there, and use that for OS.
How do you check which version of the BIOS you have? Do you have to go into the Setup menu on booting?
I've seen a couple of people mention switching the FN and CTRL buttons. Is that a built in feature of Vista, or do you need another program? Do you just leave the physical keys as is, and remember you switched them?
Thanks -
Does anyone know how/if I can disable the touchpad on my gx620?
Also, can I change the partition of the hard drive without reformatting? -
@ JMCDMCD
Yes, you can change the partioning without formatting. but you need a special software, i think partition magic works...
I want to buy this laptop... but i wanna make sure temps are not high
can some one give me avg temps for gpu and cpu at ambient and under load?
thanks -
For the partitions, Vista lets you expand partitions into contiguous empty space. So, if you delete the D drive, you could expand the C drive to include that space, but when I tried to shrink the D drive, that space was at the end of the drive, not next to the C drive, so I couldn't add it. I think what I'm going to do is shrink the D drive to 50 (so remove 200), make another drive with that 200. Move everything from the D to the new drive, delete the D drive (freeing up that 50 gigs), then add that space to the C drive. That way I'll have C at 90 gigs and D at 200. Of course, I'll do a backup first... -

Have any of you experienced the problem of the keyboard or system freezing that was reported earlier? The solution was to flash the bios (and maybe firmware) with the latest version from MSI. I wonder if the lappies shipping now have the latest bios version. Can anyone check theirs to see?
-
to acullum
you can check the bios version by running winmsd in the start > run. this brings up the system info window; choose system summary and the Bios version should be listed. -
-
they had a few revisions after 1.0p the newesst is 1.0v

Can you tell me which wifi card is in your system? I think the GX620 supports both the Intel Pro/Wireless 5100 and the 5300, but Newegg doesn't specify which one they are using. How is the wifi and also battery life for yours?
thanks -
I haven't actually run it off the battery yet, so I can't say on that. I've think read a couple of people say that they get something like 2:20 with wireless use, and slightly under two hours watching a DVD. -
-
Does the GX620 come with a 5400 rpm drive or 7200 rpm drive? Also do you still get the backpack and mouse?
-
-
Mine is the Gx620-001 I think its only going to have a 5400 rpm drive and no backpack or mouse. Lucky for me I have a WD 320GB 720 rpm drive so I can swap out the 5400 one for that. As for the backpack I'll have to buy one...
-
newegg has it out of stock

Hi all
just wondering if anyone has experienced an unclear display? If you look at the background its not very crisp and clear and this continues onto movies where it is still unclear even in HDMI. I downloaded the Nvidia drivers from here (179.48_notebook_winvista_32bit_beta). Can anyone recommend different drivers or why my screen might be like that?
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3396/screenshot1pqc.jpg -
For me it seems like your GPU is running in 16bit colour mode. It is caused by some kind of incompability between non-MSI graphics drivers and older BIOSs.
I believe a BIOS update will fix it.
BIOS: 1.0v
Hope it helps!
Edit: completely irrelevant to above:
I decided to undervolt my CPU, and I used the guide in this forum. The cooling system is great as it is, but since its summer, I thought why not. I managed to get stable undervolt @ 0.9875v at 8x multiplier, even stable when using the turbo button. My load temps went ~10C lower, and my GPU is also cooler during games, thanks to the lowered heat from the CPU. The 133 MHz loss is negligible in most apps. I can only recommend it! -
the 186.03 driver does not work properly with the msi 32 version it will only find the audio driver not the graphics card
-
Got this laptop 2 days ago and so far it's amazing.
Installed Windows 7 and set everything up, but there's little problem: sound.
Often it will make squeakily noise, like sound is bad and its high pitched ( not sure how to explain). And it's usually really quiet, with speakers at 100% it's quiet, should it be like that or is it just me ?
And that noise it makes, I noticed it during youtube video, and then song.
I tried putting microphone on mute, though that might be it but that's not it.
And another problem is microphone. It's really really really quiet.
With it at 100% I need to put my mouth right on it and talk looooudly for it to work. I boosted it to 20% and it works okeish then. Is it just me or ?
I installed realtek drivers from CD, but then I downloaded newer ones from website and replaced.
Is it just me or what should I do?
TLDR version: Sound isn't that loud and sometimes makes squeaking noise and microphone is really really quiet.
