Excellent account of your experience. Congrats on the new little monsterbook. Sounds like you like it as much as I do.

Congratulations, you will love it :)

Aye I'm loving it so far, new technology is always interesting, I wonder about Volta GPUs from Nvidia in the near future, I wish to have the compatibility to upgrade the GTX 1080 in this beast. Thank you for your video review, it was just on time as I was looking for 15.6" beast, I'll keep watching your reviews and tutorials.

I'm positive there will be more and more out there of this laptop, the 16L is a very good barebones.

I'm going to check those Everki bags, but since I have the Orion https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-Awbp18-Notebook-Backpack-Scanfast/dp/B004YVE1OC
I will need another bag with similar storage space but still fits this 15.6" laptop just right.

Awesome. Glad to hear you like the machine and my videos. Thank you for saying so.

The Alienware Orion M18x backback was the best I have ever had. I love how it is stiff and holds its shape, plus it holds a butt-load of stuff. I have an Everki Titan now. I really like it a lot, but wish it were nice and stiff like the Orion. The Titan is soft and doesn't hold it's shape nicely unless it is full. But, it is huge. I can put my P870DM3 and the TF5 and both of their AC adapters, plus extra stuff in the Titan.

I ran a gigantic (22 GB) video transcode job tonight, which had all four cores active for over 2 hours. I started with my CPU at 4.6 GHz on all four cores, using the voltage settings from @Mr. Fox, but as the job ran along, I found that the temps were low enough I decided to creep up my clocks. I went to 4.7 for a while, then 4.8. With the static voltages, things seem much more stable than they were before with dynamic voltage and dynamic clocks based on core count (which is what you predicted). This thing ran with all four cores at 4.8 GHz for an hour of continuous workload, and my temps hovered around 78C. I did have the fans turned up, of course. Nice performance!

Everki Titan and Glide...I have to look them up and decide. The Orion is indeed stiff but I have used it religiously for YEARS and it NEVER broke anything in it, it is a beast of a backpack. It is so dirty now, I could wash it but I just want to change it now. Everki seems to be the trend here I see :)

IMG_1045.PNG Can anyone confirm GT73VR - GTX 1080 with a single external monitor max screen refresh rate? If the external was capable of (500Hz example) would the GTX 1080 drive that monitor to its range or limit @ 60Hz as the Matrix Display information indicates? FYI, MSI support advised 60Hz is the limit on external monitors no matter what the configuration.

G'day all. First post, bit nervous.

After doing some hunting around for a new laptop, I discovered this forum and subsequently HID Evolution.

With a few sleepless nights of forum reading and research and not being able to find a price competitive option in Australia, I started looking abroad. I had found a popular online site that I've used in the past for camera gear, but they would not apply any upgrades when requested. So my search continued till I read all about Phoenix's process and a few others that I figured I'd be silly not to check them out.

I sent Ted a message, and he promptly replied within 24hrs with succinct answers to my questions.

Following his reply, I ordered and now am playing the waiting game. The order is as follows:

    Custom Built MSI GT73VR 7RF TITAN PRO-425 17.3" nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

Congrats @Fire_Child22 ! A friend of mine @gauravpanwar011 was also looking to replace his aging alienware 17. Helped him out on his order (MSI GT73VR) from HIDevolution. @Ted@HIDevolution supported us out completely in sorting few things with the order and expedited the payment process upon request. These guys at HIDevolution are just great!
And I believe it wouldn't have been possible without @Phoenix sharing his experiences with all of us here at NBR. Thanks man!

P.S. @Phoenix ..How about grabbing a 'sheesha/hookah' sometime over weekend in Dubai? :p

Thanks for the nice comments bro.

Unfortunately, I am so busy 24/7 from the moment I wake up, Gym for 3 hours, then family errands then work so I don't have the time although I would've loved to.

anyway, let's do a virtual Hookah for now

It will support whatever the max resolution the monitor is able to output as the GPU is capable of that. Not sure about 500MHz maybe @bloodhawk can chime in

The 60Hz limit will be for 4k, because of bandwidth limitations.
    As for 1080p / 1440p AFAIK 144-240Hz shouldn't be a problem.

@Meaker@Sager/ @D2 Ultima can maybe chime in, i remember they had the exact numbers on the bandwidth and corresponding refresh rates.

To add to this. Display port 1.3 (1.4 isn't much different) can handle 4k at 120Hz and 10-bit color, I believe.

Max refresh rate on a monitor @ 1080p i have seen so far is 240Hz and that works fine over desktop GPU's using a single Display Port.

At 1080p 240Hz is listed. 1.3 is rated at 25.92 Gbps. If the maximum bandwidth is calculated for 1080p at 500Hz and 8-bit color it would be 31.10Gbps. 400Hz would be 24.88Gbps. At 10-bit color and 300Hz the bandwidth requirement would be 22.39Gbps.

Cheers, perhaps you can PM me and we can go through the details if you don't mind.

I'm green with envy regarding your specs, but I got the best I could justify for now. When a sale comes on for M.2 drives I'll fill them out. As I travel a bit, the lighter I can make the laptop by replacing the HDD while not reducing capacity

Cheers Maverick389, hope gauravpanwar011 enjoys his laptop.

Huniken, sounds like I'd be silly not to take him up on the offer.

typing this on the newly arrived laptop.

I was surprised to find it came with mostly the latest drivers installed.

It's lighter than I was expecting, but the power brick was bigger than I expected.

And Phoenix, you're right, the keyboard is amazing to type on haha.

So, last night and today I learnt a few things.

    1. I'm getting older. Recovering from being awake for 24hrs straight after working for 12hrs of said day takes longer than when I was younger
    2. I'm out of touch with current programs that make using windows nice, and despite being the computer guy in my circle of friends, my knowledge is but a drop in the ocean of the accumulated knowledge of Phoenix.
    3. @Phoenix is probably the nicest, most helpful person I've ever met, who doesn't speak down to people with less knowledge

@Phoenix took precious time out to help me, a random stranger from the forums, who's only been active here quite recently. One thing that members quickly learn here on notebook review, is Phoenix's presence that dominate most helpful threads in the most comprehensive way. With step by step guides and most up to date tips that is meticulously maintained. One quickly learns that he doesn't pretend to know it all as seen by his posts asking questions on these forums. But he stores the useful information and can pass it onto others that he reaches out to help in ways that's easy to follow without feeling like you're being schooled.

Ok. Enough arse kissing and down to facts.

Phoenix reached out to me shortly after placing my order with hidevolution.com and offering to tweak my laptop once I received it, as it was similarly configured as his. Initially skeptical to let a stranger alter my system, I soon came to learn while waiting for my laptop to arrive that he was a man with the know how and others have reviewed his help as overwhelmingly positive.

Most of what Phoenix did is already categorised on these forums, and true you could read them and digest them and follow the step by step process yourself learning organically. But boy did having someone know what they are doing, and telling you things that you'd not have even considered researching because you didn't know was an option, was a blessing. Phoenix saved me months of research, trail and error and probably frustration of trying to do things myself. Here is a little list of what I can remember him doing:

    • Cleaning up windows start and task bar removing any trace of Cortana, windows defender and windows default programs
    • Made the start bar like windows 7
    • Registry edits to clean and remove bloat
    • Provided software tools that's in his recommended lists (some of the free ones) to keep the system tuned up while making other tasks easier
    • Partitioned the drives to make recovery of windows with the settings applied while keeping my other data unaffected
    • Removed telemetry elements of windows and other programs
    • Overclocked my CPU and did a stress test to ensure it's safe
    • Configured my power management profiles
    • Explained how to use provided tools
    • Made a restore image with all the changes, saving us the problem of setting up again if something went wrong
    • Smoked sheesha
Phoenix did all this while being courteous, respectful of my privacy, always asking prior to doing what he did and answering any questions I may have had during our time together. These are not the actions of someone working for a company, nor trying to con you into some religion or cult. But rather of someone who is genuinely willing to help make your life with the laptop a much more secure and pleasant time.

    Thank you Phoenix

    Please help information.

I downloaded Nahimic 2.5.6 Version On the official MSI website.

But I download it from Other Products a MSI Aegis ,
because Nahimic Driver on GT73VR 7RF And All notebook on the Website is only available version 2.3.15.

Is nahimic for pc and laptop different? I have installed it and tried it no problem

I think I've decided on a gt73vr 6re as a desktop replacement. I kind of wanted a 7700hq because I don't have that big of an interest in OCing this laptop. HIDevolution doesn't offer the gt72 however. Anyways, here's my gt73 build and 2 questions. Is the liquid metal needed? ~$2500 dollar built and shipped budget, am blindly missing anything or is my setup decent? Will probably add more storage in the future.

We do offer the GT72VR series with the Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ...just put that in the search box in the upper right of any page and they will come up.

To what country do you want us to ship it?

    Hello All,

I am in the market for a new notebook, and I was intrigued by the EVOC 16L-G-1080 as it is the only 15 inch laptop I've seen with a GTX1080. I have a few questions if any owners of this particular laptop don't mind answering.

    1) Gaming: How are the thermals when gaming? How loud do the fans get? Does it throttle?

    2) Portability: What is it like to carry this computer around?

    3) Screen: I've seen some reports of problems with the 120Hz screen, is that still the case? How is the experience using the 4K screen?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    D.

@Phoenix, my book is sitting at home while I am suffering at work. Of course. I hope you won't be too busy later.
