If there were not some kind of hokey gimmick to entice people to using a crappy OS like Windows 10, even fewer people would allow themselves to be bothered with downgrading to the Windoze OS X cancer OS. First it was DX12, and we see what an utter joke that turned out to be. Now it's the enhanced OS X RS2 game mode for the shiny object crowd. Not saying the enhanced game mode is no good, only that I wouldn't accept the product on that basis. It would need to offer something substantially more important than that, and the RS2 game features would simply be something nice have as an extra side benefit. UWA continues to be crap and if our luck holds out it will end in adject failure. Vulkan is the future of gaming. It's time for DX to be sunset as an obsolete technology. Micro$haft have ruined DX by making it part of their deceptive marketing shenanigans.

For work, btw, I pretty much live at the Ubuntu UML bash prompt that Microsoft added to Windows 10 Anniversary Update. It's still immature code, but it's usable and getting better every day.Mr. Fox likes this. -

For your amusement: My first lightmap bake in Unity on my new EVOC. Fans are manually maxed. Temps are at about 88C, just the top of what I consider safe for high-workload intervals (I wouldn't run that way for hours at a time, but for half an hour or so it's okay).
Note the CPU usage over the past couple of minutes in this one: All four cores, pegged at 100%.

Any reason why you are not dual-booting? There is no reason Linux cannot run next to Windows. Then you could have your cake and eat it

Once things are stable, though, I might carve out a small Linux partition just so I have a native boot sandbox so I can test my Linux tool versions without VMware's overhead.
A further complication is that I use BitLocker for full-disk encryption, a necessity with the corporate data I have on my machine. Otherwise, Linux could easily treat the Windows NTFS partition as a data disk, and I would have fewer constraints.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

2) We will shrink your current volume to have unpartitioned space at the end of the disk, let's say leave 60GB unpartitioned
3) we will format that unpartitioned space in the Linux file system
4) you can then install Linux on that partitionDonald@Paladin44 and Papusan like this. -

@syscrusher - don't be a cheapskate, bro. Buy a low cost ~256GB M.2 or 2.5" SSD for Linux and problem solved. Maybe a birthday present from a group of friends or family if $100 is too much for the piggy bank. Maybe just because they love you so much if your birthday isn't for a while.
And, there are less expensive options than these... doesn't need to be the fastest SSD to get 'er done. Anything that works will work.

I understand Linux pretty deeply, as I've been a sysadmin since about 1998, but I'm realy, really new to Windows. I don't understand Windows' boot processes, and how it manages its partitions and such, and I'm loath to start pushing around bits that I don't understand.
When @Phoenix was teaching me about OC, he very wisely instructed me to avoid certain BIOS settings unless I was extremely confident I understood them deeply. That's the approach I'm taking for the boot record on my Windows installation. I'm learning about it as rapidly as I can, but I need to understand it better before I start trying to change it. Yes, I've got lots of help here on the forum (THANKS!), but as fellow enthusiasts I know you will all understand that it's important to me that I learn to be self-sufficient as well.
All that said, I'm seriously considering the idea of stuffing a separate SATA SSD into my machine -- I already have a small one here that I could use -- and installing Linux on that. What I would do is just rely on the BIOS boot menu to select Linux, and not let Linux put GRUB on the master boot record. Among other things, this would give me an excuse to open the bottom cover on my system and have a look inside. -

Some further testing yesterday, for tuning OC and UV while running command-line video transcoding with ffmpeg as well as some lightmap bakes in Unity.
It seems -75 mV is very stable for me. -80 mV is, paradoxically, stable under load but eventually causes a watchdog reset when the machine is idle. Odd, but observed with pretty good repeatability across multiple tests.
So, OC wizards, is there any other setting I should examine which might allow me to lower my temps a bit without changing the clock speed?
I'm still really happy with my OC levels (courtesy @Phoenix, if I recall) on my 1080 GPU. I'm at +160 MHz core clock and +300 MHz memory clock; this has run for about a week with zero crashes in my Unity apps or in several games.
EDIT: Since it's been a while, here's an updated FireStrike (default settings). Temp on CPU package maxed at 80C, temp on GPU maxed at 72C. Fans were overridden to max.

My mental comfort zone for CPU temps is "low 80s C for long runs, high 80s C for a few minutes". My GPU hasn't been an issue so far, staying down around 72 to 75 C even for fairly intense load. That may change in the future, as my 3D tooling is moving (over the long term) toward more load on the GPU and less on the CPU -- so I'll pay attention to these temps with each new Unity version.leftsenseless likes this. -

I'm trying your suggestion now, although I can't do that cache voltage. When I tried that, the system instantly crashed (light load, and low CPU clock).
Even with the core and cache voltages both at 1.150V, however, you were right about the temperatures. I'm pushing 47x4 right now, running a CPU stress test that's loading all cores at a continuous 100%, and my temps never get above 82C even after a 5 minute run. The average during the run was about 79C. I'll keep running this for a while to see how it goes.Mr. Fox, leftsenseless, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this. -

I've got things at 46x4 right now, core and cache voltages static at 1.150V. I ran some lightmap bakes and a stress test, and everything is rock solid. I had it at 47x4, equally stable but my CPU temp peaked at 91C doing those lightmap bakes. I decided to back off by 100 MHz to cool it down, and now it's at about 88C peak.Mr. Fox likes this. -

It is very durable, the handles are sturdy despite the heavy weight of the laptop with the charger, it doesn't feel like the handles are going to break if you hold it from only one of them. I have walked in light rain as well while having the backpack on and the laptop wasn't wet so that's another plus point.
Speaking of storage, you can store your entire room in there (not literally) but you have so many pockets / sections it's super roomy and convenient.
PS: It costs an arm and a leg but hey, it's the best out there and this beast deserves nothing but the best.HOTROD, Huniken and syscrusher like this. -

As you can see from the photo, the area above the laptop is enough to be comfortable, but not enough to make the bag too oversized. A 17.3" would fit into this bag if it was fairly thin, but I think if I had a powerhouse rather than a thin machine, I'd follow @Phoenix and get the larger bag. I share his enthusiasm for the Everki bags' quality, though. This was my first purchase of an Everki, and I'm extremely happy with its durability and construction. This is the time when I had to upgrade my rig and replace the old aging MSI GS70 Stealth Pro which I bought from HIDevolution.com back in 2014 with help from @Ted@HIDevolution back then. Because of my positive experience up to recently dealing with a dead battery I got in touch with @Ted@HIDevolution by end of 2016 and got my new replacment battery on time from HIDevolution.com. Services provided by HIDevolution are exceptionally well.
My aim was to get a high end high tech laptop with all the things that will tick the check boxes for my desires & needs for my dream machine. I did scout the internet for possible units until I laid my eyes on this beast, the EVOC 16L-G-1080 15.6" laptop that uses a barebones MSI chassis which is the 16L.
This laptop got everything I need in a smaller footprint than my previous MSI laptop that stood as 17" big, space is precious for me and each inch shaved off is a good thing, that and this machine packs more performance than I have ever had in a laptop previously in my entire life time. What cemented my purchase even more is the videos done by @Mr. Fox and this community it self.
I placed the order for my machine on 06th February 2017 after some heavy correspondence with @Ted@HIDevolution about the machine and stock availability including it's upgrade path in the future as well the custom Prema Bios. @Ted@HIDevolution made it clear to me that they are restocking on this machine and it should be in by end of February and start of March 2017. I wired the payment for this little monster by end of February (27th) and the waiting game has started with excitement and a little bit of an adrenaline rush sometimes when I think about it.

Out of the box surprise:
I got Windows 10 PRO instead of Windows 10 Home edition, thanks to @Ted@HIDevolution for this awesome gift.
Upon checking the BIOS (later on after turning on the laptop), I observed that I have 32GB of RAM instead of 16GB that I ordered, this is rather a VERY awesome gift from HIDevolution.com. Thank you @Donald@HIDevolution, thank you @Ted@HIDevolution & the rest of HIDevolution.com (Nikkie & Vivian) staff, whoever added in the extra ram for me, I shall NEVER forget how awesome are you guys, oh I'm SO coming back to buy another laptop from you in the near feature, this gesture tells a lot about their customer service. My experience buying from HIDevolution.com is 10/10.
First impressions of the laptop out of the box: It is light-weight, the 330watt PSU is even heavier lol, this laptop hides a big monstrous processing power not reflected by it's humble blank looks and the black theme of it's exterior....until it's lit with the RGB keyboard then it announces it self as a gaming laptop, keep the RGB off and it's your run of the mill daily office usage laptop =D The Evoc logo is on the back side of the lid and on the front side of the lid. nothing else screams like stickers that says VR ready and the shabang just black plain laptop with a small white sticker on the underside of the chassis that says MSI 16L- 2017/01.
Turning on the laptop with power plugged in.
So in the moment of truth, I faced this dilemma which is explained here by brother @Phoenix
A big shout to brother @Phoenix for fixing up my clusterfuck of an install for windows that I foolishly did in a hurry from an OEM stick from my other MSI laptop.......windows activated on that messed up install then deactivated it self, still brother @Phoenix was there yet again to fix up my mess, this time I didn't touch anything, he hooked me up with Team Viewer and then his master mind started to do the magic. First found out my windows install was the root problem of everything as I deleted the windows pro install due to that OOBE issue which I regret doing it in a hurry and not waiting for help from @Phoenix when I just pulled out my laptop out of the box that arrived from HIDevolution.com......don't blame me for wanting to have a taste of that fresh pie out of the oven.
@Phoenix noted my issue so he arranged a new windows flashdisk install and re-installed windows Pro which worked as intended with the Windows 10 Pro key, to note this, my original order had a Win 10 HOME edition but thanks to @Ted@HIDevolution he surprised me with a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro!!
Got windows 10 Pro installed and I followed the instructions by brother @Phoenix to disable the windows update, setting up team viewer and hooking up to Wi-Fi as a final step, I let him know over what's up that it is online and ready to go, he got in and started talking to me over T-V and setting up everything to the way I want it. He did spend all of his time helping me out for FREE, yes that's right, for free, I want to pay him because I feel bad that he had used up his time on me instead of attending to his personal business, brother @Phoenix is a very humble man, I even suggested to him that he should open an online business in Dubai that can cater to customers.
In the end of the settings @Phoenix made a backup copy of the system after setting it up the way I want incase in the future I need to reset windows using macrium reflect.
So after a few days of this, I'm now submitting my usage experience out of the EVOC 16L-G-1080.
Usage experience:
The laptop boots really fast, less than 10 seconds and I'm in.
The 4K screen is really crisp and beautiful, the games run smoothly with G-Sync using the powerful GTX 1080.
The temps on the CPU and GPU are very good, but when gaming I highly suggest having the fans blow out in full power as some of the CPU cores spike to 95C but only for a very short time, I'm using HWiNFO64 and it showed the average of the CPU around 77C and not 95C, the GPU hit a max of 88C but the average was 76C so I think the cooling system is good overall. The fans are very quite but when the turbo fan kicks in, that's a jet fighter right there, it's not extremely loud though, still bearable so it's ok.
The BIOS are the stock bios right now and I'm waiting for the promised Prema bios, I hope that @Prema can give out estimates on when I can see his excellent work available on my machine, of course through HIDevolution remote reflash. Right now the CPU is running on stock turbo boost of 4.5Ghz, I would love to take it up to 4.8 or 5.0.
The GPU seems to be locked on it's power limit and voltage, I wonder if vBios can be updated to unlock it or is it just BIOS related and could be unlocked by custom Bios like the SVET/Prema ones? I used MSI afterburner to overclock it to a stable speed that helped letting it reach 2035Mhz while gaming.
Typing my feedback, this one in particular from this 16L-G-1080 EVOC is rather pleasant, the touchpad/mousepad is working very well for me, no complaining here, the keyboard has a better feel than my MSI GS70 stealth pro, just excellent, not stiff by any means and it registers the key strokes rather well. It could be used for gaming but I don't recommend it, I use an external keyboard for gaming which is much better overall.
The sound from the speakers is high quality and loud enough to wake up someone from the next room, really good gaming experience as well for Music & movies.
The Microphone seems to be of good quality as well as brother @Phoenix was hearing me loud & clear over Team Viewer.
The EVO 960 1TB SSD is big enough to have accomodate so many triple AAA large game titles such as which I have installed, The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, Mass Effect Andromeda, Star Citizen, Nier Automata, Street Fighter V, Deux Ex Mankind Devided, Skyrim Special Edition, Cryssis 3 & Assasin's Creed Syndicate which still left me with 250GB out of 700GB on D drive, C drive is 200GB with a free space of 161GB.
Next storage upgrade will be a 2.5" SSD of either 1 or 2 TB and in the future will be another NVMe SSD in slot #2.
Overall rating of this system is 9/10.
1 left out because no custom Bios are installed, it needs to unleash the beast within =D
Thank you for reading & your time, keep overclocking, benchmarking, rinse & repeat until you hit that wall, then wait for for the next HIDden-Evolution!
Thanks a ton to @Phoenix , @Ted@HIDevolution , @Donald@HIDevolution , @Mr. Fox & the rest of this awesome community.
