Interesting, maybe an external power supple would be a decent solution to me as long as it's not too bulky to carry around. I'm kind of in a weird spot because I don't need much more than 2 hours. Ideally if I could squeak out 3 hours somehow (while just surfind the web/text documents) it would be perfect for me. If only there was a 12-cell battery or something. I don't mind extra weight.

Just looked over the MSI warranty and I think I'm sold. It works for US and Canada and I happen to live about 45 minutes to an hour away from the only MSI service center in Canada. -

Would you say it's worth an ~$400 if I sell my Sager NP8662 (Core 2 Quad Q9200 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, GTX 260M, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, 15.4" 1680x1050) to get th GX740?
It seems the Core i7-720QM should be slightly better than the Core 2 Quad, but the HD 5870 should walk circles around the GTX 260m. But I haven't even tried to overclock my 260m yet.
Plus dimensions and weight aren't much different between this MSI and my Sager but I get a larger screen. I like 1680x1050 too. -
I recommend getting the i7 7** instead of the 8** as performance are about the same when it comes to real life gaming ... -
Yeah, I think I'll just wait. My Sager can't overclock the CPU though, so I'm kinda stuck at 2.4GHz. Well actually through a workaround can get it it 2.6GHz, but considring temps aren't the greatest with this chip, I'll stick with 2.4GHz, and don't think 200MHz will help a whole heck of a lot. I considered the MSI before because I thought I had a buyer that was willing to spend a little more than normal for my Sager because he really wanted an NP8662 for various reasons, but now seems he's bailed out so will just hang on probably until end of this year at least.
-
I thought you guys could with the sager , oh well welcome to the club
I can only oc using a barebone bios ... Which makes the boot screen looks dated
minus the memory timings and all ..
Anyway i too will wait till end of the yr or so before getting a new one coz i'm moving out soon .. By which I presume there should be more to choose from .. -
what aboutttttttttttt
DirectX 11 - PhysX
why........... why... ;d -
What about it ?
-
-
No, but you can use Dx11 with HD5870.
-
HD5870 By far! To date anyway,

^^ Always wanted to do that lol -
uuh my shiny ;d -
that's actually a pretty decent looking backpack lol, why is a mouse pictured? bundled? haven't heard of that yet...I would actually welcome that as I don't have a gaming mouse yet..
and i unlike most people really like the chassis except for the thicker parts of red, I wish they had made them thinner. but otherwise yeah lookin' good. -
Yeah this one looks ok compared to the one that came with my 725 ... and yes most G-series comes bundled with a mouse.
Decent mouse , it was a 3200dpi one but non-customisable and red ! -

I Thought it was the red backpack? I wouldn't mind either one. I'm actually in need of a new backpack (ironic since I'm out shopping for $1500 laptops) and if it does the job I'll use it.
I also thought it didn't come with a mouse but I wouldn't complain about getting one -
makes me even more excited... ugh. waiting sucks.
-
-
-
, otherwise if std means virus use DUREX, heh.
-
Hell if she was cute you'd turn around lol...

have any review outlets gotten a GX740 or GX640? If they're gonna make me wait I at least want more places to read about the thing and reinforce whether I want it or not!

For those who have owned/seen an MSI lately how is the screen? It's glossy but does it glare a lot? I hate when the screen will reflect every single light source in the room
-
17" WSXGA+ Super Clear Glossy Glare Screen (1680x1050) -
Matte (non-glare) screen on the 725. Lack brightness in normal usage but great for gaming and movies.
-

Alright cause on RK Computers the descriptor is "super glare" which got me confused...no company in the history of mankind would show off glare as a good thing would they?

GX740 is more than likely going to use the same screen. -
See now that scares me. LCD quality is almost more important to me than GPU power.
-

Itdeed, scares me a bit too. I don't demand RGB LED but I want it to be a good one.
Another question, what kind of pins do MSI use for power? It is a proprietary that would be hard to find an external battery to use it with? -
-

I can't handle the clevo's massive girth, unfortunately. Hopefully the screen ends up being pretty good...being able to see really small details in online multiplayer shooters is a must for me. (makes me play better haha) -
If I got one of these it would be a barebones and I'd look to swap in my own WUXGA screen. -
-
, or ... i don't know which one would it be... well made ?;d

The Display inside is Samsung SEC4A47. And it has the following ratings:
Maximum: 167.4 cd/m²
Average: 134 cd/m²
Illumination: 68 %
Black: 0.21 cd/m²
Contrast: 701:1
Thanks to Electrosoft. -

I have that display now in my personal 1727. It isn't bad. It isn't *great*, but like I said I end up turning down the brightness on most LCDs and especially LEDs. The only problem you may find is using it outdoors or in a very, very well lit establishment where it may wash out a smidge but I even found myself turning down the 1727's display indoors. It's brightness is more than adequate imho.

As long as you angle the screen to avoid the glare (which stands true for most glare screens) from office lighting, you should be fine.
