Hehe better to be safe then sorry hey tr1pod :)

We will wait a bit longer to see if the msi live scanner detects bios updates for the advent itself, if not then we will probably look into OCing.

Let us know how you get on, would be good to know how it goes with that as later on I may try the same as well.

Yeah definately back up the drivers, because if you do loose them one day, you need to have them ready to be put back :)

    Ok thanks catacylsm & Max

I made a backup using the tech guys dvd thing on the desktop then backed up the other stuff from the applications folder to portabe hdd.

Will have a play around with some games later and see what it can do. :D

Also got everything to fit easily in the laptop bag i got with it for just £15. :)

I dont think you needed to back up anything really. If you mess up your system you can restore the whole thing to the factory settings by holding F3 during boot and doing a system restore from the hidden partition. (as long as you didn't ever delete that partition)

If you are changing operating system then I guess you can just throw the drivers and any apps you still want to use from the hidden folder on your C: drive like the blueray suite onto a disk so you can install them after.

But after saying all that, yes it is always a good idea to have back up disks just in case :p

I think we should start working on ramping up benchmarks soon :)

I think i came across a company giving away the 3dmark tools on one of the forums/sites anyone heard of it, if not does the 3dmark vantage have a trial time? im not to sure.

I will try and get hold of 06 and vantage and play with some OCing.

It seems the shops went far enough to have this removed from their sites, completely. Probably so MSI could sell pretty same thing for 400 quid extra, in peace... :err: Afterall 400 quid premium gets you:

    WUXGA
    500GB 5400 rpm HDD
    Overclockability
    Red colour

Now hearing about the slightly poor quality WUXGA screen of GT725, Advent 6555 was probably the better buy. Cos, its screen is apparently very good in quality, and you just have to flash the bios to overclock. Thus unique selling points of quad GT725 will likely backfire...

    WUXGA (poor quality?)
500GB 5400 rpm HDD (need upgrade in future anyway?)
Overclockability (but same CPU, at least have the decency for Q9100?)
    Red colour (personal preference)

Agreed, unless we can get hold of the OC enabled bios, and then fuse it in to the system control manager, and prehaps then assign it to fn f6.

Anyway, here are some of the benchmarks that ive just taken, tried CCC Overdrive to the max but it blue screened, did a fine tune and it took it down to 540/890.

Cinebench - I think these results are quite good for a laptop.

3DMark06 - I like this result, but i would like to somehow push it 11000, is ram taken into account on this test? I have been reading up on google about utilising more ram in 32bit os, and increasing it to 36bit, so i could edit the factors to do this.

Wow nice faisal, do you have pro editions of 06 and vantage?, also do you know if they run on multicore also, because im just wondering if thats the reason your gt 725 is outperforming the advent.

Anyway will try and rival your marks ;)

Also does the 725's OC increase FSB speeds?

Muahaha got ya faisal xD 11371 3DMark06
Only joking faisal that was in the lowest res, i can only get about 10671 in 1440x900 res in M06, but i think vantage takes into effect multicore, i get over 8000 for cpu on that one.

I cannot get Vantage to work, its saying minimum resolution isnt supported :( and i dont really wana upgrade to new cata pack as ive heard its a bit ustable for now.

It only works if i turn of features in vantage :( cant get marks though because i need features.

I only can run 3dmark06 at res 1280X768 on my advent 6555. Did gt725 run 3dmark at 1280X1024?
I think we can not compare the marks because of different res

Hmm true, the res between the two is different, and yeah i oc'd it with cata control, its strange ive seen results vary quite often, i got around 30k+ on 3dmark 03 lol, but i cant think of games that ive recently played in that era xD

We have to get it working on vantage because i can get an 8000+ cpu score and with the gpu oc'd i think i can get a total of around 7000 on vantage.

They install with Windows 7 update. They are beta drivers but I think the official 9.3 drivers should be out today with full Windows 7 support as well. Should work with CCC as well hopefully because the current ones don't.

Sure are, downloaded them from AMD last night, modded the inf and updated my 9.2 drivers.

Updating from the OEM packaged drivers to 9.2 was the most difficult bit, but from there updating to 9.3 was almost too easy.

There's a thread somewhere on here about the GT725 and 9.2 Cats, where I explained the process of updating from the original drivers. If you need some help modding the inf file for 9.3 let me know.

If you have the driver inf file from 9.2 it's basically a copy+paste job to get the 9.3 drivers to recognise your video card. I'll upload a copy of my 9.3 inf and provide a link later tonight (currently at work).

Working fine for me so far, have only run 3Dmark though but no problems. The mobility 4850 is almost identical to the desktop version so as far as the driver is concerned it's not all that different. The mobility GPUs do have some extra settings in the inf file for fan speeds and the like, but that's about it.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/211344482/CL_76828.rar

Run the 9.3 cat setup, quit once it has finished extracting the files, replace the inf file with the one above and perform an "Update Driver Software" via Device Manager (specifiy the location of the modded inf file).

Windows will complain that the driver isn't certified or something, but just continue. Once complete, run the cat install to update the cat control center.

That should be it. If Windows tells you during the driver update that it already has the correct driver installed you need to remove the oemX.inf (also the accompanying pnf file) file in Windows\inf that is locking it down to the oem version of the driver. On the GT725 it was oem6.inf but i believe on the advent it is oem21.inf?

Not much, I think the only performance improvement is with Lost Planet... there's already reviews out on 9.3 so not hard to find.

If you're upgrading from the oem driver however, you should see a healthy increase in a few games, such as crysis.

I was also trying to get hold of one of these but am no longer interested. Instead you might want to check out the 15.4'' Quad Core Sager NP8662 when it comes out (ETA Mid April). It will have an option for the same Quad that the Advent 6555 uses, a better resolution (1680 x 1050)screen and a smaller build. It will also have a GTX 260M GPU which is high end.

hi guys, just recently got my advent as such havent updated any drivers. When i do update drivers from device manager for the 4850 it says um up to date and thats with the 8.5 driver. What drivers are you all using, and where do i get these from? also what sort of temps are people getting on the gpu idle and gaming?

Hey agr, grats on the purchase, its a great machine, im sticking with stock 8.56 becase of my hope that ati will release fully mature radeon mobility drivers, however people are moving onto modded, more mature 9.2 9.3 drivers.

As for temparatures of the 4850, 40deg or so idle and max 87deg, you will hear the fan really kick in then as its a relatively quiet machine :).

    Hope this helps.

Laptopnut, any idea how much the Sager will cost? the 260M GTX im guessing will have really nice performance but a bomb of a price.

Casual gamer, if you have a bit more money, laptopsdirect.co.uk sell the MSI GT725-210UK which is basically the same, probably bigger screen res and a turbo button.

cheers cata, does ur 4850 alter its clock and mem speeds based on battery settings? also in the ati cata control it doesnt show fan speed.

I looked up the sager i was getting prices around $1400 without the quad core and $1600 with. Im intrested to c the performance of the 260m
