Lets hope so man, lets hope so (Y)
Is definately worth the buy i think so, i would be happy if mine comes through tommorow/thursday, but if not ill be dissapointed.
-
hey again guys,
there was someone on page 24 saying they want to see a video of the laptop running?
ill happily record crysis and gta 4 with fraps
gimmie a some time and it will be up
anyone suggest some settings in fraps? 5mins = 1.5gb :O -
Cheers raty,
Also guys, MSI has just released a Quad core uk varient of there 725, which means theres a chance that advents bios can be updated to support Overclocking with the touch of a button xD
Not to sure, im hoping its the same chasis still, and they haven't modified the cooling, will look into it for us. -
Looks like you are right there catacylsm.
It looks like it is the same Msi 725 with just the added quad core cpu. Looks like the advent was the trial for the msi version to be brought out. Although the price is quite a bit more. Looks like it will be £1399.99 and not due for release until another month or so. -
Hmm i thought so, which is nice because the chasis should support OCing fluently
If you look at laptops direct its current 127 pounds cheaper as well as bigger hard drive, OCing ability with a touch of a button, bigger screen resolution, i love both of these laptops to be honest, the pricing is fantastic and they handle latest games at pretty much native =) -
thx from me too raty
the quad core msi does look nice but like £300 over my budget
aaaaaaah!!! im so confused!
why are they discontinuing the advent???? its the best reception they have ever had for a laptop lol -
freshprince:
they are more than likely canceling the model because msi was testing the popularity of it, hence why there is now a quadcore model coming out from MSI.
Heres hoping that there is going to be a bios unlock for this. Done some quick tweaks to vista and the performance is incredible!
anyone got anything in the crysis demo they want to see? such as the sea, combat etc?
give me a list of what you want to see in crysis and gta 4, with a fraps set-up and ill record it for you guys. -
Only P9500 ->Q9000, the price is increased from 1099£ to 1265£? I'm not sure what's the res of the screen. The website did not specify it, so I guess it's also 1680X1050. It's not worth. I can not understand why MSI releases this model. It's very similar to GT725-087UK, but much expensive -
After install the modded driver 9.2. 3Dmark06 marks is slightly decreased, and vantage GPU marks is slightly increased. Maybe because I install lot of applications.
-
-
i dont know opimal settings for crysis but see what happens when you turn everything up that would give me a relitivly good idea how it performs compared to my pc
the quadcore msi i think is out of the question for me.
is the advent better than the msi core 2 duo?
even after taking the turbo button into account?
which should i go for? -
-
real noob question here but what is 1400x900?
obviously not 1080p but is it 720p slightly more or less?
that would give me a good idea, coz even if it were full hd i dont think you would benifit much on a screen this size.
doesnt a screen have to be 40inch or over for you to see the difference between 1080p and 720p? -
-
waxlight- try just increasing font size in internet explorer etc. that will help you
i have a strange problem with my laptop actually. when the power settings are on balanced or powersave its fine, but on performance i get a high pitch noise from inside the laptop. I've seen a few places say that a BIOS flash could fix it, but i havnt got a clue where to get a stock advent bios from :S -
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WFB57YIjgw -
That one on youtube is only the core2 duo.
-
-
Ok maybe not great at German
Are you allowed to post links to retailers on here? -
And yes, i think you can post links. I've seen plenty of other people doing it. -
Ok it may just be that the Uk version is different for some reason.
Here is the link to the one where i got the screen res info. -
1080p = 1920x1080
1440x900 is roughly in between.
Of course, 720p etc is just a loose label used by manufacturers, it is often used to describe 1366x768 screens and others. -
I always run at high performance model, but not such noise. -
Waxlight i recon that is, thats the res on the uk duo core model
My fingers are crossed for advent bios support from msi =)
OC quad is ub3r to be honest,
And my Advent 6555 is on its way wax, i cant wait!
At last lol -
-
you but it from store or online?
what's "ub3r"?
wait for your test results -
(Speaking as a new Advent 6555 owner) while I had expressed my wish for a quad core MSI GT725 with WUXGA in this very thread before such a machine actually became available (and I probably would've forked out the extra £399 for the WUXGA had I seen the ad for it on play.com before I bought my Advent 6555), thinking about it with a cool (after-purchase) head, the MSI GT725 quad core WUXGA at £1399 doesn't seem worth it to me, in comparison to the Advent, for two reasons:
(1) Paying £400 extra seems too steep an increase over the £999 Advent, just for WUXGA and a larger HD (an increase of £200-£250 tops seems more worth it).
(2) With the CPU and gfx card on this system, cutting-edge games such as Crysis aren't going to perform well at highest quality settings at WUXGA resolution: you'd have to sacrifice one or the other. (One might say lowering the resolution would put it at par with the Advent 6555, but the display will probably not appear it's best at lower-than-native resolution).
You might think it's just a case of "sour grapes" for me, but I don't think it is.
On another note, I managed to get my Advent 6555 unit exchanged at PC World Croydon for a new one (I mentioned on this thread earlier that there was a dead pixel near the centre of the screen).
The guy in their tech department who checked out the laptop for the dead pixel problem said they normally don't accept return of a laptop once it's been opened and used, but because of the dead pixel, they would exchange it for another unit as a "goodwill gesture" (fine by me, as an exchange was all I really wanted). This time I made sure to check the new one had a "spotless" screen (excuse the weak pun) before I left the store, though!
Edit: Apparently laptopsdirect are selling a version of the MSI GT725 Q9000 for £1265, but they haven't specified whether it's WUXGA or not (methinks if they don't explicitly say it's WUXGA, then it's likely it isn't), but if it *is* WUXGA, seems a better price than play.com. -
con, danrop, for your new 6555.
-
The OC boost on MSI gives 15-20% increase, which i must comment is quite fantastic concidering its safe.
And the advents price, fantastic. -
if anyone successfully overclocked the q9000...let me know...i wanna do the same...but i dont know how...never overclocked laptop b4.the only thing im not satisfied is the cpu...cheers
-
hey guys, what do you guys think of the new acer, how does it measure up, to the 2 laptops you have been talkin about.
http://www.clickadeal.com/-acer-asp...d5f4e65100317f07895c2575427ec&sl=EN¤cy= -
The cpus quad, whats not to like?
We have to wait, the reason for this is if the new quad MSI GT725 has a better cooling solution and a different bios, only then we can safely look into full time OCing to be honest.
Im guessing you want to run some powerful non multi thread compatible apps wesk?
Hey liverpaul, i looked at this in PCWORLD, i loved the layout to be honest, and the spec was really nice to however when i got to
Nvida 9600 GT, i was alittle dissapointed however it does have alot of available memory for the GPU
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html
It has great touch pannels and a nice bright vibrant screen. -
Thanks catacylsm, I will want to do alot of video editing and maybe run a few animation softwares, stopmotion pro and maya, and the odd game, Empire total war. I have had my eye on the Aspire 8930G, for alittle while, have heard the screen is abit squashed tho.
But then found the MSI GT725, and the Aspire 8930G quad core, so i dont know, it looks as if the GT725 has better battery life, than the acer, and a better graphics card, so i guess, that makes it a simple decision.
The only question now is quad q9000 or T9500 in the gt725? Which is the more powerful, what are the pro's and cons of both, sorry if this was answered earlier in te thread, but had'nt had time to read it all -
hmm...coz it's 9000, i think 9100 will be much better. but 4 the price, its too much acceptable.
liverpaul80, 4850 now is the one of the best(another is 9800m gtx) single laptop display card in the world. there is still no single 4870/280m in the laptop.
btw. i just reinstall the system to vista U. anyone knows where i can find the driver of 6555?(all drivers, but i already got the 9.2 for 4850) thx -
Hey Weskycn, if you had £1250 to buy a laptop, what would you buy?, needs to atleast play blu ray, and be a good gamer
-
Liverpaul, i'd buy MSI GT725-210UK from laptopsdirect.co.uk
Quad core MSI GT 725
17 inch, probably 1650x whatever res
4 gig ram
Overclock quad ability
And as for that Acer i dont believe the screen is squashed to be honest, i did like its whole feel and style though.
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/MSI_GT725-210UK_Laptop_GT725-210UK/version.asp?PID=
I like it, people dont believe the price is worth it at the moment, but since theres a discount i think its pretty dam good.
And when the HD 4850 mobility drivers mature, i think against the 9800gtx, the ati will eventually win, it also has overclocking and auto throttle down in the catalyst controls.
Theres a fair few good choice laptops out there now if you ask me -
Hi liverpaul80. Display card is always the first way. 3870 x2(alienware)/4850(msi gt725/advent 6555)/9800m GTX(the gtx is very important, coz only the gtx have 112 processor cores. n this is nearly the most important thing in nv card. for 9800m gtx. i'd rather recommend u this http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/range.html?t=nb&c=gaming&r=X8V but the thing is the cpu of it is a bottleneck. u can also try this http://www.alienware.co.uk/configurator_pages/m17.aspx?SysCode=PC-EU-LT-M17&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT . but both of them r a little bit exceed ur budget. if u dont want add any money. then take the advent(999) or msi gt725(around 1200).
one more thing. i dont really think blue ray is necessary. however, it's hard 2 find a new laptop without a blue ray. -
I just found a £100 voucher code for currys if you spend over £1000. I'm quite annoyed that they won't be stocking the laptop anymore, otherwise i would have bought one right now. I'll probabily wait now for the ati 4870.
-
Thanks for your thoughts guys, i probably will have to go for the gt725 in the end, due to my budget, although would love either of the laptops you recommended weskycn, esp the alienware. Just need to decide whether to choose between the quad core or the more powerful 2.53ghz dual core, while my head says dual but my heart says quad........ coz its newer and cooler
-
Bear in mind FSB speeds and L2 Catch size is also reccomended for quad, the higher the better, especially for vista.
Skynet currys often have the same codes as other DSG shops, so try some pc worlds down south for the 6555 prehaps? -
in fact i really recommend a powerful dual core. the games seems dont need the other 2 cores now.
-
True, but soon more games will use multi core rendering, my t2400 on my Vaio are only 1.83 and i find that more then enough for games like L4D and so on.
Is there a specific app you are trying to run wes, or is it in general? -
lol, my former laptop has t5600 which is 1.86ghz.l4d is just ok on that laptop, though i can only play in med.
yes, more game will obviously use quad cpu. but q9000 is just the way too &*&^*. -
Just hang in there a bit longer wesk, im sure the bios for the new 725 can be used to our advantage, then overclocking will be a breeze
-
ahhhhh!thx 4 reminding me ! i just reinstalled the system and cant find drivers. i can use the msi 725 drivers! thx bro!
the overclocking stuff. seems the msi has a button which can directly leads 2 oc the laptop, but ours havnt... -
can gt725 oc the cpu and gpu via some software if not use the button? you can check the driver or software of GT725 -
Shouldn't be a problem, assuming we can support the OC ability on our Advents, then we should be able to make a hotkey combination of some kind or prehaps even a desktop shortcut? its amazing what you can do these days.
-
Was just examining the set of pre-installed programs... wth is up with this "MS Silverlight" monstrosity taking up 4 GB of space? I can't for the life of me recall ever having visited a web site that required Silverlight to display properly.
-
Along side MS Silverlight, is the remove button my friend xD
4GB is just asking to be burned, especially when Silverlights barely used.
GT725 with Quad core, the Advent 6555?
