Flashing to the 725 Bios is not that recommended because you will loose the overclocking ability with setfsb. It works fine though and add some little extras .... (useless extras)
As for firmware , avoid ! It will change the touch panel layout to the Gt725 and will make it unusable.
Modding , the only place for that is the official Gt725 thread![]()

so if i update to the 725 bios will i be able to oc via bios?
-
No , it sucks when it comes to overclocking. Stick with the Advent bios and use setfsb.

Dead Stop It
You Know Our Ram Can't Handle 1mhz Increments Damit. -
You guys needs some HyperX loving
-
Ohhh indeed we do
will definately order some in the near future, i hope 4gb banks come shooting down so we can get some 8GB ddr2 800 sticks, i'd love that.
-
i have tried to oc my gpu and fail badly
i get it to like 520 core and it dont like it. this is with overdrive. what do you get out of the cpu iv had only 2.4ghz but it crashes some times which is kind of a pain really. is it because of the ram? i got 12385 3dmark 06 score is this what you guys get.
-
Indeed , that would be sweet
Is that it ? What driver you using ? 545/900 works best for me .. 550 crashes in certain games.
Tbh , 2.4 is pretty decent for a Q9000 .. Only a selected few managed to hit 2.7/8 or something. Is it stable at 2.4 ? Did you run prime95 ?
If it's stable , just leave it as it is .. Should be enough for the extra frames.
I couldn't oc past 2.9 with my crappy transcend that came with my lappie , but with the hyper ......... -
Wut, nobody hit that dead with an msi, except tester who im yet to get in contact with !
.
2.4 is good but OC prone, this can also destabilise your GPU oc. -
That's who I was referring to
-
i have only ran 3dmark with it oc it went all the way through. would there be any point in getting a xtreme cpu would i be able to use the unlocked multiplier? just about to run vantage on it!

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have the Advent bios and touch panel firmware for a 6555/7555, I updated mine to MSI and did not make a backup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
if you know how to back em up i can make a copy for you of the 6555
-
likewise... be glad to help.. the touch panel firmwares seperate to the main bios then?
out of interest what happened when you switched (to the 729 bios?).. had been thinking about trying that myself.. I take it's not such a great idea? -
The flash tool gives you the option but I wemnt and cowboy-ed it up
dum I know. It doesnt cause any harm but it does remap the touch sensor panel which is a bit of a pain.
-
does it add any oc features as im thinking about getting a core 2 xtreme cpu but no point unless i can use it
-
It gives you the option to change overclocking percentage from 16-20 & 24 , but will not work with the Advent as it does not has the useless turbo button (useless as it can't oc a damn quad by more than 4%)

Fraid not parker, could approach advent, if I thought for a second they'd have a clue. Just want to get my buttons working properly
Again, any help is greatly appreciated. -
well i have just played a game that is not world of warcraft, crysis what a game and wow the graphics are summit else but better of all this laptop ate it all up at 38fps is this normal?
-
Yeah ofc, i was able to play wow ultra with aa ramped up pretty high and it was always over 30 fps.
As for the buttons bazz, take your battery and power cord out and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Hope im not too late. -
He needs to revert back to the Advent's firmware. You can keep the MSI bios as long as you don't plan on overclocking.
-
hey guys as u well know pc world had a nervous breakdown when they chose the display for this thing and fitted it with a lcd from the 90's what would happen if i fitted a msi lcd on would this work as i understand its 1920-1200

Here http://forum.notebookreview.com/6153688-post6.html
Now the hardest part is getting someone to extract their bios/firmware. Good luck -
As for the firmware and bios i'm very busy atm but if you can drop me the program to extract these things as well as instructions on how i'd be happy to help.
Cata. -

Been bugging me for quite a while now is my bootup time.
From pressing the power button to the login screen appearing it takes 1 min 45 sec. Is this normal or is something slowing down the boot time? -
Any USB devices plugged in?
Performed a defrag on the HDD and registry lately?
If not, try some of them.
-
No usb devices plugged in.
Will do a defrag on hdd now, not sure how to do registry. -
I suggest ccleaner, auslogics registry defrag and a uslogics registry cleaner.
Also if you go to run
msconfig
services
hide all microsoft services
Turn junk off you dont need, this can speed things up a bomb (But i can't remember if this speeds up load speeds or login speeds lol but its worth it hehe.) -
Well the defrag made a difference no down to 50 sec to login screen but others didn't make any diff.
Not sure about turning off junk as i don't know what is and what isn't.
Thanks catacylsm -
-
Yeah it wont, but it will improve start up time massively. (Upon entering from windows screen.)
-
hi chaps, nice to see some activity here.
must admit mines a bit slower booting but i am putting that down to the anti virus, firewall, spybot software booting plus a few other devices i use.
anyway, i am looking for a new laptop (nothing wrong with the advent) with 3D.
so far found 3 but none seem to be released in the uk yet.
theres asus rog g53 or asus rog g57
toshiba a660
msi gt660
questions to you has anyone else looked at these?
does ati have a 3D offering? -
Are you serious Datus? I dont see the need to upgrade to be honest, but 3D can be quite good!
The gt660 looks promising but the g53 more likely has a stunning price + hardware set. -
yeah I fancy a new one, i love the 6555 and its not slowing down in performace, any games etc i buy is effortless.
just i would like a very smart looking one and there are some tasty ones on the horizan.
plus i got a buyer for mine who has offered a good price so trade in time.
had mine now 14 months and used it every day for many hours and it just works.
seeing as the advent was based on msi, the gt660 would be very high on my list. -
Have to say my Toshiba HDD seems to slowly be loosing touch, although i've got it running back up solidly again although i think a reformat and full driver set would work some wonders ,
Not showing any performance problems here though, i've had issues with not enough ram once or twice haha.
660 should have some phenominal advantages in entertainment, dual HDD, cant remember if it had 3d, dynaudio speakers (Which from what i've heard works.) -
ok ive ditched the 3d idea.
seems only a couple of gpu's from nvidea do it and they have lower res screen than the 6555 and the power of the cards is less too.
so ive sold my 6555 and have less than 1 week play with it b4 i hand it over.
its a great solid laptop and only when you go looking for a new one do you realise how good i have (had) it.
anyway, imaging your got some money and want a brill, good looking laptop what would you buy.
ive looked at the asus rog g73jh, alienware m17x and msi gt660
everone has its pro's and cons
asus looks brill but has issues with support, no ports (esata, usb3) hdmi at side, sound is poor.
alienware looks brill also but no usb 3. hdmi at side as well sound is good.
msi doesnt look as cool (they never do for some reason) but has usb 3 and hdmi at rear and sound should be brilliant?
rock seems pricey and not worth it.
any others or thoughts ? -
ok gone with the Alienware M15x
ati 5850 gddr5
i7 1.73 4 core 6mb cach
320gb 7200 drive
4gb mem
lunar silver
im gonna miss the 6555 been steady and reliable, -
Good choice man, i've used the M15x very nice piece of kit.

Calling fellow Advent 6555 owners... some help please!
Starting a couple of days ago, I've developed a problem with my laptop in that it would freeze and stop working in Vista within two minutes of firing up, and need to be force rebooted, every single time. At first I thought it might be a virus or spyware or something, but i think it has to do with the laptop heating up:
I installed Speedfan and found that the temperature of each core was between 70 and 80 C, like within two minutes of booting up Vista.
So I opened up the laptop, unscrewed and lifted up the fan and cleaned out the two vents (to the rear-right of the laptop) best I could (they were rather clogged).
However, it is still running fairly hot: about 55C each core, and this is in Vista Safe mode, with negligible CPU usage; I'm only using the browser to type this message. (Safe mode is the only practical way I can even use the laptop at the moment; it still doesn't work for more than 2-3 minutes in Vista Normal mode).
I'm almost sure I'm still using the stock video drivers, and I've positively never attempted overclocking or anything. (I remember attempting to upgrade the vid drivers a long time ago but couldn't do it in my first attempt for some reason - IIRC the laptop is configured to refuse vid driver upgrades - and since I'm not an avid gamer, didn't really think it was worth pursuing).
Anyone else having/had a similar experience? Any suggestions what I can do? Can someone try running Speedfan and let me know what temps they get, so we can compare notes? Hope I haven't wrecked my laptop! -
Some files are say, ahm, screwed up and you need to do a system repair, using a installation cd. Everything should be fine by it.
If not then a complete C: Drive format and re-install. -
Hi and sorry in advance if this has already been covered to death.... I did do a search already.
I am about to pick up Win 7 Pro so I can upgrade from Vista. Yep I missed the boat on the upgrade offer
Not sure if I should take the 'easy road' and just upgrade to Win 7 32 bit.
Or, should I 'suck it up' and do a fresh install of the 64 bit version of Win 7?
Also I don't know if I can install extra RAM (currently have the original 4GB RAM) and if so, specifically what RAM should I get to make the most of the 64 bit upgrade.
I am not in love with the idea of having to intall all my software, drivers etc all over again.... but if it's really worth it I will. If not, I will just do the 32 bit upgrade.
Guys what do you advise I should do? -
Fresh Win7.
It'll get rid of all the mess that's accumulated over the years and offer you better performance. -
Thanks, what about the RAM question, can I install more than the original 4GB and if so, any advice on the best (performance/price) RAM to get?
Cheers -
Hi sorry to post again on the same subject..
Has anyone out there actually got 8GB of RAM in an Advent 6555 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit?
Did you just get 2 x 4GB DDR2 800Mhz....
This is the memory I was considering
Corsair Value Select SODIMM Kit 8GB (2x4GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 200pin Notebook Memory - £152.37 inc. VAT
Not sure if it will be fully utilised and also, if the performance gain will be worth the £.
Thanks for any advice on that -
I am having a little niggle with the touch sensors being lit when my laptop boots up.
The windows media light has been doing it now and again for a while now but now the one next to it is lighting up too (e light).
Is there an option to stop this from happening rather than having to switch them each time it boots?
GT725 with Quad core, the Advent 6555?
