you have a nice day and enjoy your self around the forums.
vista 32 or 64 bit?
and there is a way to turn that off as well.
http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php?t6444.html -
AFAIK, the driver check at booting can be disabled prior to SP1.
After SP1, you have to manually disabled it (F8 menu) every time you boot Vista or using tool like ReadyDriver.
That's why I ask whether there is another new solution to this.
Btw, the above link is for XP 64. Can it work with Vista 64 SP1?
(I already convert back to XP 32, so can't check myself) -
and ill check after it finishes running this benchmark.
but this will disable it at boot
http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/album_cat.php?cat_id=69
click on the 4th picture.
download that program it it will disable it. it's what i use when i need to get around the driver signing issue. -

Indexing: right click on the drive, uncheck the indexing box and repeat for every drive mounted in Vista. Turn off indexing in services.
Superfetch: I think that this just pre-caches commonly used libraries in memory, and possibly applications. Shouldn't affect copying. i.e. at best you'd be freeing up some additional memory for other uses in tradeoff for slightly longer app/game loading times, OSX nad most linux distros do something similar and have done so for some time now.
Vantage & quad cores: Vantage is likely multi-threaded whereas the VAST majority of games & apps are not or are poorly threaded as in they might as well not be, which is another reason as to why synthetic benchs are a poor indicator of real world performance by apps & games. Additional cores should be used by the OS, and possibly some drivers which would give some gain, but nothing huge. It will take fully multi-threaded apps/games which were designed adequately to really let multi-core CPUs be efficiently utilized, but this does take alot of work so I wouldn't expect to see any games efficiently threaded unless this was given to the devs for "free" by the engine and whatever other libraries they licensed already did. That doesn't guarantee that the games/apps in question would be efficiently multi-threaded as in attempting to spread processing load over all available cores though. -
Have you been able to get this to work? I get "We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred:
No Offer Found"
Redlance this was meant for you. Were you able to upgrade to 64bit? -
Quad cores: As an addenda, I intend to put a quad core in my 725 once the warranty expires, assuming that I can find some for a decent price which they should be a year from now considering that the mobile version of nehalem will be out this summer completely obsoleting Montevina.. (They should've been out already, but some large vendors whined to Intel about clearing Montevina stock out first...) -
Thank you!
-
yes all you need to do is get a copy of 64. your lic key is valid for either version so it doesnt matter.
-
that super fetch kicks in about a minute after your os is up and running good. watch that hd light kick in to over drive. for a good 5 to 10 minutes or so. i just turned it all back on and look at it go.lol
but would very interested in a answer for that stupid copy delay. it was fixed in an update, but i think it got brought back in a later update.
and allot of time... its better to run the games in dual core mode, unless it's one that calls for all four cores... -
Oh yeah, though of this too while I was trying to backup some files this morning and had forgotten to TURN OFF my virus checker. It was SLOWING down speed testing a great deal.
Try turning off your anti-virus software and see what kind of transfer speed you get then. If it was the anti-virus software, get a different type.
Actually for you VIsta tweaking why not just go here:

Anyone else flash their bios on the GT725 from 1.0R to 1.0S and see the fan noise level increase? I also updated the firmware from 4.28 to 4.29. However the change in fan speed seemed to come from the change in bios rather then the firmware change.
I feel stupid now and was wondering if anyone had the original 1.0r bios and 4.28 firmware? Msi hasn't been much help.
I found the 1.0r bios on the bto.eu site for the ms-1722 but I don't know if that's for the gx720 instead of the gt725. I also don't know if the gt725 and gx720 use the same bios since they are both basically the 1722. -
-
Wish I knew about the msi hq usb flash tool before. -
what was the code you used to flash it the first time?
-
The bios and ec code?
The ones i flashed it to were
bios: A1722IMS.10S
firmware: 1722EMS1.429 -
yeah the code that started the bios update. looks something like this.

update on my lappy its now been a week. no hiccups. cool temps!, after 4hrs nonstop gaming max temp was 64c GPU and 48C Cpu.
Still quick as hell and still leaves me amazed at the power of this laptop. vista took some getting used to but so far been a real smooth ride.
So glad i didn't opt for the Gateway FX7805 heat would have been murder.
to monitor temps I use atitraytools v1.6.9.1382 beta version. cannot display in game get errors but displays temp on task bar. Using rightmark to undervolt CPU. -
Since the gt627 lacked a few key features like quad core, and 1920x1200 res I have been looking at this laptop. The 4850 version with the 1920x1200 matte screen looks amazing, and as I understand it supports quad core. The only thing its missing is a media remote. I know this may sound silly but I use mine all the time on trips and at work. So I'm wondering is there an option for such an accessory? Also without having to read through 128 pages of replies how is the heat with quad core and the 4850?
-
a few people got Advent 6555 which is same laptop GT725 with x9000 they will be able to tell u the real figure i dont think there is any problem at all with temp so far
here i found one post there with temp seems good to me
-
It's odd though. This guy in the link below had sort of a similar problem. In my case though the fan would run full blast no matter the amount of load on the computer. This is my third day having this, and I haven't done anything heavy or even installed a game.
http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=124668.0
In his case it was a GX720 and downgrading to ec firmware 7.22 fixed it. Hilariously I unintentionally learned that the gx720 uses basically the same bios and firmware. Also downgrading to bios 1.0r and ec firmware 7.28 fixed the fan problems. It took a lot of pestering but MSI finally came through with the ec firmware and bios thankfully.
I learned my lesson. Even though I don't know exactly why the fan went rogue on me. -
as long as it all worked out in the end.
ready to reflash?
lol
just kidding. -
The words "bios" and "firmware" will make me cringe from now on haha. -
questions!
1) does the RAM operate at 667 or 800?
2) does anyone take their gt725 with them when you go to college, work, and such?
3) is your turbo mode always on when using the laptop?
bought my gt725 at a US base eseller. -
Just thought I'd report a hardware problem with my GT725 in case other want to check theirs.
When I have headphones plugged in the right channel produces no sound. Problem started after having the laptop for a week and I have been using the headphone jack heavily since I got it. If I plug the headphones into the line out the sound is fine but I may want to use the SPDIF jack in the future so have asked Amazon to replace the unit. The sound is also fine when I use the built in speakers. Pretty disappointing, but its just one of those things I guess. -
Hi guys,
I am new to the forum which I found out to be a great place.
My GT725 just broke down!
I am having it since 13 days now. All was fine, 9700 3D marks with turbo on out of the box, no issues with noise, heat, crashes, etc. I was blown away. The keyboard worked fine for me as well.
Now, last night, in the middle of a more or less idle windows session while I was trying out a simple, graphically not very demanding downhill ski game, the backround graphics in 3D started to produce artifacts. This continued after a reboot. Nothing regarding the configuration was changed. The fan-openings were free.
Under windows everything seems normal. Except for some small artifacts at the top bars of windows.
But whenever in 3D mode, strange horziontal artifacts - like rays - emit from moving imagery or textures. Visible in the CCC 3D preview, google earth and all 3D (game) applications.
I have a parrallel install of Vista 64x that I use for music production (the main purpose of the notebook), there, I have nothing installed except the Digital Audio Workstation system: Same problem when going into the CCC, also artifcats when there are a lot of windows open.
The CCC reports an error when you rund the build-in overclock function. Even on stock settings or slower!
Since this happens all the time on two completely different and independent windows-setups, it must be a hardware issue. Am I right?
I added two random images from a game. They are small but you can see the horizontal lines. they flicker all the time - it is impossible to play.
Everything else works fine...
I filed an RMA with MSI. Does anyone know the probability that they have spare part for that machine already and how long it takes. On the phone no one likes to be specific...
Many thanks!Attached Files:

hey faisal hero ... i will be buying the 725 in another 2 days what modifications like the overclocking need to be done and how in order to achieve maximum gaming output
-
you can set the bios to enable 20% cpu overclock in turbo mode 15% is the default.(someone posted how to do that earlier in this thread)
Notebook cooler Zalman NC2000 works good for me. For more risky overclocking its probably better to go with the NZXT Cryo LX and use an external usb power adapter for max fan speed.
Latest catalyst. no 3rd party apps can overclock the Mobility HD4850 yet as i know of. CCC (catalyst control center) can find the best overclock for you or you can set it manually)). -
karankohlithehot1768 Notebook Enthusiast
those lappys are good that by asus but too xpensive ... do u think that this msi lappy would be able to play all games for time to come coz if i buy it now then i wouldnt be allowed to buy another for atleast 3 years

To the GT725 owners only:
My question is how many physical ram slots are there? two?
Also if you have time, can anyone run cpu-z, and tell me how many slots are detected in SPD tab?
I'm asking cos it appears softwares can detect 4 slots in Advent 6555, where I think there are only 2 physical slots, software is giving wrong reading; I just want to see if its same as 725.
Having slightly second thought on my dell M1730 atm, especially if there are 4 physical slots on GT725. -
if u ask me u dont need any overclocking done to this laptop it can play all the games without being over clocked what so ever but if u into bmarks than u can over gpu aswell as cpu dont u dont need it
i would say yes it can 4850 is very powerfull card top of the range and it will take come some time b4 its out dated
-
Thanks, then the max mem is 8gigs I'm still wondering how CPUz can pick slot 2 and 4 up... though that does clear it up...

hey faisal m a big fan of urs ... grea videos on youtube put sm more man gt725 videos are less ... great workl !!
-
thanks Karankohlithehot i ll put some more in due course maybe some bmark braking 11000 that would be nice -
thanks for the feedback!
I am afraid you are right. I did not a temp reading, but I immedeately felt for it and it wasn't really hot (was much warmer when I played other games before). The fan openings were also unobstructed.
The bad is: MSI wants me to pay for the shipping to them. I bought the NB in Germany and travel frequently between both countries, but have to stay in the US for the next week. It would be fast and free if I was in Germany...
Also, I have read very mixed reviews on their RMA department. Also, I wonder if they have enough spare 4850. According to the German RMA department the 4850 is replaceable not hard wired to the mainboard, so it SHOULD be rather easy...
Does anyone have experience with MSI notebooks and RMA? -
GUYs i am updating the first page of this thread as the thread growing bigger and bigger it would make sense to put all info togather so people dont have to read 130+ pages Please Visit the first page and give me your feedback what would you like to add there so it will help everyone else
i would also like if owner of US 074 and 075 and other europing models can provide me with bamrks and unboxing or any info which can help other would be graet thanks -
Yes, it only has two DRAM slots. (Actually every notebook that I've ever had or see has only had 2 DRAM slots UNLESS some of the DRAM was SOLDERED to the mb, in which case it had one.)
It labels them slot-1 and -3 so that they'll operate in dual channel mode, but utils will list 4 slots as the chipset actually does support up to 4 slots of either DDR2 or DDR3 DRAM. In this case, as mentioned above there exist only two actual DRAM slots DDR2 compatible in dual channel configuration. (Note:you CANNOT use DDR3 with this notebook unless you replace the DRAM slots(or make an adapter somehow) as DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM slots are neither mechanically nor electrically compatible.)
@faisal
Didn't you mention somewhere that you were able to get the temp readings from the 4850? If so, what did you use to get it? Catalyst 9.2 and/or some util? (I'd really like to be able to monitor the 4850's temps... if for no other reason than to make me feel better...) -

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=275077&page=22 midway down is a link from ray adams with latest build
next download directx update from Microsoft (otherwise your in-game monitor FPS/temps will crash the game (its the tab called OSD and the advance to show GPU T) while in game) also can show GPU temp in task bar. also use everest home edition to monitor CPU temps and undervolt the cpu -

Hey guys I have a question. When I check my RAM in my computer/properties, it says I have 4gig. But, when I run a system diagnostics or dxdiag, it tells me I have 3070. Is this normal, or did I get jipped out a gig?
I'm just wondering, as I want the machine that was advertised, not a 3gig one.
Also: Does anyone else think their screen is a little on the dull side? My old compaq laptop has a much brighter screen! I have to have my brightness in the all the way up position on this computer to even come close to that brightness level.
Thanks. -

yes i can get the temp using CPUID HWMonitor Version 1.0.5.8
that gave me an idea i should put this on the fron page to lol
