check this out can anybody tell me by looking at this if i can upgarde the processor to a xtream one?
-
-
your mum got a QX9300 in her lappy now thats what i m talking aboutway to go mum
-
haha, I just pulled it from my current system to see if it would boot up. She's getting the P8400. But she wants a fast system, so I'm gonna get her a SSD to create the illusion that things are fast
-
-
at those settings it's beating a gtx by 4 fps. not to shabby.
i just did a quick run through and got 45.5 fps
dammn, ichime, you got mum's on the super dupper over clocker chipper did ya!!...woooohoooo..."singing" go mom's...it's ya birthday...go moms...it's ya birthday.
thanks rob, will be through to check them out. -
heh, she had fun while it lasted. But now, her system boots up faster than mine, even with the 80gb 5400rpm hard drive I'm using in place of the SSD once I find a good one. And the thing shuts down in 5 seconds! My system before I killed the GPU took double that.
Wonder if MSI has plans for a dual GPU notebook in the future... -
The max/min temps should be off to the right of the window you screen-grabbed, you need to expand the window (or shrink the columns) to see them properly. -
The issue date of that revision of HWMonitor is 2007 though, so you're right that it's probably not a peak temp, but I think there probably IS no min/max in that version.
-
-
My GPU temp fluctuates 5-8C while I'm in a game just by looking at a wall or a busy battlefield, you better believe ALT Tabbing out will change it.
-
these are 620/920/1500
and im liking the numbers on the ssd, but will wait till they have a price break. 800.00 is worth it, if i had it like that, but i don't so i need that price to drop a bit..lol 2400 bucks in drives is a bit much right now.... -
Just pulled the trigger on this one myself, hope to get it soon
now, just to double check... the GT725-075US from newegg comes with 32bit vista right? -
1 and half hours game playing
and i was keep checking the temp so this one is rite on the money it did nt drop at all
-
OMG faisal, you just got the f'ed thing and you want to break warranty already?! (Someone has a secure job...)
Anyways the lack of GPU temps is just about as much of a concern to me as the poor quality of ATI X11 drivers which I will have fun with shortly.
I miss newegg USPS shipping option, it was so VERY MUCH MORE EFFICIENT... kind of like pre-public ocmpany UPS days...
[EDIT]
The wait is always annoying, at least UPS didn't get to 50m of my house and then let it rot for 2d this time...

I’m looking to get Vista 64-bit with this laptop, as I believe it comes with 32-bit. Is there a cheaper way to upgrade the Vista OS that comes with it from 32 to 64 or do I need to just buy the entire 64-bit version?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the upgrade is free from microsoft. check there website or call them. you just have to pay for shipping and handling.(i think 10 dollars.)
-
So has no one found any Windows XP drivers? I absolutely hate Vista and just want to get it off my laptop. Maybe i can track each part down and find drivers that way. Any thoughts?
-
Are you guys sure about the 32 -> 64b upgrade for OEM copies of windows?
I looked on some other places (not officially official M$) in which it was mentioned that OEM copies had to go through the OEM supplier as M$ didn't handle support at all for OEM copies.
Nice pictures... wonder what that extra orangeish stuff around the edges is... [EDIT] nm I guess... looks like sort sort of extra case supports or something? [/EDIT] -
I'm going to buy this when (late march?) it's released in my country (the Netherlands), so I have been following this thread for some time now. Most of my questions have been answered but i'm still wondering about this:
Has anyone played GTA 4 on this laptop? I'd like to know what the max. resolution & settings are. I heard GTA 4 doesn't play well on 4850 cards.
Also, has anyone succesfully tried the BIOS update that swaps the "Ctrl" & "Fn" buttons for this laptop. That's one of the first things i want to change when i get this laptop. -

Here's a benchmark result by abishai from the GT627 thread concerning GTA 4:
-
Coming from wikipedia:
The Windows version of the game was praised for its improved graphics compared to the console versions, but on the other hand there were reports of many customers who were unable to play the game due to incompatible ATi Radeon graphics adapters,[96] no SLI support, DRM issues, and other unaddressed issues, such as the Windows XP Service Pack 3/Windows Vista Service Pack 1 requirement. There have been many complaints that the game was unable to install, due to the fact that the players are unable to get the Vista SP1 to install on their computer. There were also multiple bugs and glitches that were reported.[97] bit-tech went as far as to name the PC version the fourth-"most disappointing game" of 2008.[98] Many players also complained that the system requirements were very demanding and even when running on powerful computers it was hard to get a decent framerate.
So I'm not foolin with you but no one can really know for sure if GTA4 will run on any particular setup of the GT725 -
Bugs aside, it would be really great if someone could try out GTA IV on the GT725. Please?
I was also looking for some benchmarks but leipo beat me to the question.
Thanks! -
This will be my last post since I have been infracted for a post about a Desktop in the Apple NOTEBOOK forums for trolling.
I do not believe I deserve this and it pisses me off. Here is the link tell me what you think, better yet pm the "super moderator" whom gave me the infraction, Budding.

I have been on the road this week with the MSI GT725. The laptop is easily portable. The backpack holds everything I needed for a trip north in the cold for 3 days. Toiletries, clothing, 2 external HDD's, a mouse, the laptop, power adapter, and a few other things. The battery life when just web browsing has been great ~2:45. I played C&C3 for almost 1:30 at max settings, turbo on, and video card OC'd before the system put itself to sleep. I also bought Crysis Warhead but haven't installed it yet. I won't be able to post up benches of it because of my infraction. All in all, this is a fantastic laptop and I am super happy with my purchase of it. I have become accustom to the keyboard now but still miss the period and enter keys ocasionally. The case is showing fingerprints on the metal parts alot. They are fairly easy to wipe off though.
Good luck to everyone, and farewell. -
welp
I got my GT725 now typing as i speak
spiffy little bugger now to download some programs and stuff
-
man dont worry about a little infraction everyone of us does it now and than so dont stop the whole thing just take a time out once u over it come bk bz if u leave who i m going to compete againest -
hey all,
i'm new at this forum. have been reading this thread and the Asus W90 thread.
My current laptop is Lenovo 3000 G410 and i'm saving my money to get a gaming laptop
My target is MSI GT725. I probably go with the model 74 though.
Few questions:
1. How much performance different between model 74 and 75?
2. GT727 will use DDR3, do you guys think it will be faster? -
oh, and i really appreciate if you guys willing to give me a +rep as a welcome gift
-
ok i purchased the GT725-074
here is my 3dmark benches
3dmark06 9030 stock
turbo mode + O.C. 550/900 = 3dmark06 score 10072
just finished installing new cats 9.2 i think is 8.582 the newest or the old ones? -
2. No
There is almost no difference between the performance of DDR2 and DDR3, DDR3 just has the largest benefit of using less voltage. -
The radeon will be faster it has GDDR3 512mb
-
Just got my GT725-074 from Amazon. First impressions... very happy.
Just a question... Did others that purchased from Amazon get the backpack? I did not.
Guess it doesn't matter that much, just another thing I now have to purchase, which I was hoping to avoid.
Thanks,
Mark. -
The GT725 4850 mobility int he 725 already HAS GDDR3. It's not even specced for GDDR2, only GDDR3 & 5 IIRC.
You guys gave that guy rep just for begging for it? Man they ought to just rip out the rep system altogether now, as he has more than some posters who have been here for a while... -
-
Hey Mark... I bought from Frosty Computers and got the backpack... Did you get 32bit or 64bit Vista?... I thought Amazon was keeping the backpacks and giving 64bit...
-
I ordered the -074US on Friday afternoon from newegg, and it should be here tomorrow, so I'll post whether or not I go it.
I really don't plan to use it, as I already have a very nice SPIRE nb backpack that I used with my Apples.
Did the MSI backpack have a removeable sleeve(padded) to actually put the nb in? My Spire has one with a handle, so it could be used to just carry it in that, but only have used it that way to take around out side the house(yard) o.w. I take the whole pack. (i.e. you stick the nb into the sleeve, then put hat into the pack which has a pocket, pull the sleeve cover down which can either velcro to the sleeve if just using that to carry or on the outside of the pocket in the pack is another velcro strip which it closes over and secures the sleeve to the pack with...)
My -074US is c. 50m or south of me, so I expect that they'll move it the final distance overnight and have it out for delivery sometime tomorrow... hope it's early... although we usually don't get UPS deliveries until around 3p... -
nope the sleeve is attached in the backpack sorry
-
anyone know how to disable the touchpad? besides Fn + F3?? any way to disable it?
-
Try using the mouse software - I know you can do it with the Logitech software.
-
it is to my understanding that the gt725 comes with vista 32. xoticpc and rkcomputers have vista 32 in their gt725. anyone know where i can find a gt725 with vista 64 already installed in it?
-
-
BIOS setting maybe. IIRC someone mentioned that as a way to get rid of the touchpad annoyances (tap clicking) by disabling it in BIOS and just forcing windows to use an ordinary PS/2 driver...
Also the synaptics drivers should work, or at least they did on my 1651/GX620 which had options to turn off said annoyances and didn't seem to bother anything else.
Too bad about that sleeve as I'm worried ift he 725 will be too large for the Spire's sleeve...
@markthompson
They're supposed to come with 32b Vista Home Premium. Looks liek ALL MSI comps & nbs come crippled that way. Frosty's just a little clueless as to his product specs, although he seems to be spot on with shipping dates...
@smiter7
most of the smaller re-sellers will put on 64b for you, although they charge you the full price of a new copy, usually c. $130 IIRC. Theoretically(I have yet to try) we can install 64b ourselves and use the product key on the nb. Also theoretically is possible to order a 64b install disk from M$ for the cost of postage plus a little extra, c. $10.
Maybe I'll try calling up good ol' M$ tomorrow and finding out, or checking their site a little more thoroughly...
