You could try disabling the device in Device Manager (Control Panel).

the synaptics driver did the trick i can now disable that pesky thing

i guess this will be my last comment on this issue, i dont want to hijack this thread. -
32-bit OSes can see anywhere from 3-~4GB depending on your hardware configuration. 64-bit is the way of the future and there doesn't seem to be any major compatibility problems. To change to a 64-bit OS, just get a 64-bit disc (you could either order one from MS or DL one [perfectly fine since you already have the key]) and use the key on the bottom of the laptop.

Another question... When I go to "System Control Manager" in the Start Menu, nothing happens. Is that right? There is an icon on the taskbar which is also related, but right clicking gives two options, About and Exit, neither of which is helpful. I kind of thought this was the configuration for the touch sensitive bar on the laptop??
Thanks. -
Press the P1 button on the touch panel and it should bring up a dialog box to configure it
-
Haha so simple.
Thanks

2 questions well maybe one.
the restore discs i just made can i use those to install a 64 bit vista?
if not.
second question is there a LEGAL place to download it? microsoft.com? I wouldn't trust any 'bad sources' since god knows what your getting (virii trojans, back doored, key loggers, broken stuff etc etc) Besides I like legit software. free updates and support is worth it. -
@Redlance
If the laptop came with 32-bit, obviously if you use the restore disks that came with it, you wont get 64-bit.
The download source doesnt matter cause you will use the key on the bottom of the laptop. Even when you get the disk from Windows, you will pay for shipping only and not for the key.
If the key is legit, everything is legit.
Anyway, I am not aware of any "legal" place, per-se to download Windows Vista. -
thanks for the info what webpage to look for it? www.microsoft.com\vista ??
-
MS statement says, "retail version". Is OEM ok?

This is my first post on the NotebookReview forums. I just received my GT725-075us last week from Frosty Computers. I love it--best laptop I've ever owned! The only drawbacks seem to be the atrocious I5100 WiFi card and the seemingly weak power input connector. I just have a couple of questions.
First, a couple of people were discussing upgrading the WiFi card to a 5300. Has anyone had any success getting a full height miniPCIe card in the GT725? I'd like to get a SparkLAN WPEA-124N in there. I just want to make sure it fits.
Second, does anyone know what the port on the back right side of the laptop is for. It looks like some sort of external antenna port. Can I use it to extend WiFi range or something?
Thanks for all the help guys! -

If your upgrading the wireless I would stay with the 5300, both full height and half height cards will work.
That port is an MCX connector for an optional internal TV tuner.......... -
i'm still waiting on a definitive review from someone, anyone.
tons of people have this laptop now.
would appreciate something very much and i assume the community would as well. -
Why the 5300 over the Atheros 5008 card? -
-
this laptop looks nice but i really don't see any point upgrading from my p-7805u at this point. i upgraded my cpu to t9800 and i am hitting close to 11k 3dmark 06 score when i overclock my gpu. mine has 1920x1200 LG screen,
so it just doesn't seem worth the effort ebay my current system and get this new msi gt725. sure, it looks more stylish and lighter but that really doesn't help me much as i only look at performance when it comes to computer.
only thing i like about it is having 2mp web cam. darn.. i wish mine had 2mp one. -
For the owners.
Did you notice any strange click on the right button of the touchpad?
It seems to me that there is some concern about one small coil or something like that which is causing the button to "return" bad... and the button does a "click" sound...
It's just my problem?
I noticed that you have to click the button on the right part of the same, away from the center... the red part of the scheme below

Is the OC function independent of the OS running?
How do the power requirements compare to the 9600 cards in the older models? -
well, my friend, i'm not begging it, i'm just asking politely and well, a nice guy happen to give me what I ask and I'm thanking him for that
are you gonna give me some +rep too?
anyway, have question regarding Crysis Warhead.
what is the max resolution we can get with ultra high setting + 30FPS?
example: Ultra High Setting + 30FPS can be reach at 1024x768. -
In my country, a seller offered me a new GT725-74 for $1750 and a reconditioned Gateway P-7811FX for $1475.
The Gateway specs are:
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26 GHz/1066MHz FSB/3MB L2 Cache)
- 4 GB DDR3-800mhz
- 200 GB SATA Hard Drive w/ 16 MB cache (7200 RPM) -> 2x HDD Bay
- 8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double layer / dual layer DVD-RW and DVD-RAM w/ labelflash
- 17 inch WUXGA Ultrabright Display (1920x1200) (This is the resolution of many 40"+ HDTVs)
- Integrated 1.3MP Webcam
- Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS w/512MB GDDR3 Memory
- Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64 Bit
- Reconditioned item
what is reconditioned item anyway?
and what do you think i should choose?
PS: I'm fully aware i'm posting at MSI GT725 thread. Just want to know what you guys think -
works a treat. -
-
what made me interested to the gateway (beside the price) is the fact that it has 2 HDD bay. i really wish GT725 have 2 HDD bay.
i already have a 3.5" external HDD. but, the idea of having 2 internal HDD in my laptop rather than 1 HDD Int. + 1 HDD Ext. is more intriguing. -
WiFi will know about this over the next couple of days as it will be warm enough that i"ll likely want to try it outside for a bit. I had no problems with my previous 1651/GX620 with the Intel 5300, but seeing as this will be the 5100 it MAY have slightly different performance characteristics as IIRC it's one antenna less than the 5300...
As I mentioned before we usually don't get UPS deliveries locally until sometime between 2-4p EST, so it will be a while before I actually expect to receive it yet. Also it's been cold enough that I'll want to unpack it and let it acclimate to room temp for at least an hour before doing anything else at all. (Actually it's been significantly below normal temps for the last week or so... i.e. below freezing... although tomorrow and friday are forecast to be about normal c. 40s and then MUCH warmer on friday c. 55 or so...) -
Hello folks,
I've wandered over to this thread from the Advent 6555 one (the Advent 6555, as you probably know, is a modified MSI GT725; it has a Q9000 quad processor and a 1440x900 screen being sold in the UK).
I had a question about the MSI GT725 display (*your* version, with the dual core and the WUXGA: how does good does the display look when you change the resolution to something lower than 1920 x 1200? Do the lower resolution options maintain the same aspect ratio as the native resolution, or is there some stretching involved?
-
Ok, if you say so, probably is just the way it is made.
Hopefully it would be harmless for real.
BTW anyone out there that is thinking about buyng a cooler? any hints?
Not cause I feel it hot, but just to be prevident.. -
i am using mine at 1280x1024 and its really good at first it seem strange but but now its all good

Well mine finally showed up @ 6:50p EST, after I was beginning to doubt if it would or not since I usually get UPS deliveries around 3p.
No camera, no pix. Look at faisalhero's.
Build quality looks better than the other 1651/GX620 that I had already. Top facing/keyboard section at least.
Installed Vista, up to burning 1st backup DVD-R ATM.
Then off to try to order 64b Vista disks from M$ and burn a 64b Ubuntu 8.10 disk.
Backpack is ok, but nowhere near as nice as my spire, but I'm already pretty sure that the spire pack & sleeve won't be useable as just laying the sleeve on the closed 725 looks like a no go whereas it still fit the 1651/GX620 OK.
Looks ALOT bigger than the raw specced dimensions would imply, length and widthwise. Depth looks to be about the same as the 1651/GX620.
Main vent & grill look MUCH better constructed than as compared to above model, and seems to have an internal metal grill just behind the plastic case cut openings which IIRC were entirely lacking on the 1651/GX620 or recessed further.
I'll post more later, but I'm not going to bother with Vista/etc. as faisal/etc. seem to have those covered and so will mainly address myself to linux/Ubuntu distro (8.10) in particular and the quality of ATI's proprietary accelerators for X11 there.
May just not get around to it tonight, as I still want to re-partition and do some other things first after the recovery disks are burnt.
[EDIT]
Opted to NOT install the Office demo, and Crazy Talk whatever that is...

It should support the quad core's, we did not have a chance to test them yet. Sometime next week we are going to test them and make sure they are also stable on O/C.
We tried the quads in the GT627 and it would not boot. -
Hello all,
Just got mine today and I was wondering if any of your drives makes a thumpish noise when you first put a disc in. It reads/burns the discs fine but I've had many bad experiences with faulty optical drives and I was wondering if this is normal or not. Any replies are greatly appreciated. -

cat 9.2 improved my score on 3dmark06 on my GT725-074
turbo + oc 550/900 = 10179 -
hi read in the threads that the 725 isnt mxm compatible, and tberefore not upgadeable gpu-wise?
can anyone confirm this?
thats almost a dwalbreaker for me there..... -
well i tried to get the replacement media at microsoft and it said no offer found for my key from MSI. Guess i have to hunt down my own media.
-
getting your media should be pretty easy...as long as you have your key
download it from the net and burn it to a disc and your done. -
Tks Faisal, Tks Redlance.
BTW what was your previous score Redlance, with the standard driver I mean. -
Hi all,
I can officially post on here as my GT725 (uk version) is all paid for and I'm just waiting for it to be sent out.
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the technical side of things although I do love my games (hence the 725!) Could you please help me out a bit (and forgive me if this has already been posted, afterall this thread is 115 pages long!)
Once it arrives do I need to do anything to it to make it run well? Because I don't really know what I'm doing, should I just leave it alone? Are the "improvements" worth the hastle/risk for the average user? Do I need the latest drivers?
I've seen the tuning thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=359519
I'd just like to know if I should bother before getting involved in tampering with something I know nothing about. I recently tried to replace the screen in my HTC M700 and had an epic fail - the new screen broke and the phone is in 10 bits!
Any answers appreciated, especially if you can tell me the "why" behind any tweeks, for example, Why should I upgrade to Vista 64?
Thanks -
I wouldn't bother with Vista 64 bit, as you won't see much difference.
-
I think the option of upgrading to 64bit is quite handy concidering you are then able to access the remainder of the ram.
(Correct me if im wrong)
I am too, also curious of the GPU is upgradable? From what i hear the majority of the other parts are, CPU etc..
Ive ordered mine the other day, will probably arrive in a week or so but from what i've read, im dying to try this
I chose it over the Advent 6555 due the to higher clock frequency's + turbo mode, also due to the fact that Multicore programming isn't very popular with alot of games.
Cant wait for some awesome L4D action xD
