1st Rating. Device Manager shows 1 unknown device and an unknown SM Bus Controller. Don't know if these are affecting the Memory Rating or not. Gonna DL some drivers from MSI and see if I can get them cleared up.

Ok. Windows 7 found the problem and fix while I was uploading a video with the Acer. They were both Intel problems. #1 was the Intel chipset drivers. Windows 7 provided me with a link to download a file from Intel. I extracted and installed it and the SM Bus controller was fixed. #2 was the IR controller. Windows 7 also found the problem, notified me of the solution, provided me with a download link(also Intel), I extracted and installed and now everything in the DM is all good. I re-rated windows but still got the same scores. Going to download the catalyst drivers and install them now.
So far the laptop is fantastic, but I allready have a couple of gripes:
I am having alot of trouble adjusting to the "truncated" keys. The right shift key, period key and slash keys are becomming irritating. This is probably due to the fact that I have been using the same laptop for so long and am having trouble adjusting to the new key size, but maybe they are just too small. I agree with a previous post stating that the location of the power button could have been moved easily to allow for full sized keys on the right hand side of the keyboard. I wish they would have lined the keyboard surround with black so that the surround attachments would have been less obvious. I would like to have a slot loading drive. Thats the only things I see "wrong" so far. This laptop is such an improvement for me I am just beside myself. Gonna install Acad 2009 and play around for a bit.
BTW 1st post in Win7 on the GT725 -

Im sure it's a coincidence (something you were watching on TV?) but you should remove it anyway. It is a little weird and unsettling to hear that in the background of a laptop video. -

@Acer5005Guy
I just watched the overview vid and i like the activity lights on the 725. wish they came like that on the 627. congrats with the purchase. -
Im due to get my GT725 in a few days and ive read some people were using Windows XP, but I havent found any drivers for XP. Can someone post a link to the XP drivers? Also, anyone know where to buy keyboard covers for this laptop?
Thanx -

Surprising results. I thought the 64-bit OS would have produced a higher score than the 32-bit. The new windows rating is 5.9, higher as expected:
Processor 6.1
Memory 5.9
Graphics 7.9
Gaming graphics 6.3
Primary hard disk 6.7
The 3DMark06 program was automatically installed into the Program Files (x86) directory. This leads me to believe that the software is being emulated in the 64-bit OS. This could be cause for the lower score.
Turbo Button is working. MSI's site says 32-bit but it is working in W7 64-bit

I may install W7 build 7022 32-bit to see if there is any difference between builds. -

I'm scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th delivery...
As to 32bit to 64bit upgrade, things are looking a little grimmer with some additional quick looking this morning. It would appear that the 32 -> 64 bit upgrade by getting a 64b install disk from M$ ONLY applies to retail copies as M$ apparently has almost absolutely nothing to do with OEM copies. This apparently means that the only way to get 64b would be to buy an OEM copy from MSI somehow, which I don't believe that they support, or suck it up and go out and buy another copy retail or OEM from somewhere. (Although I've also read before that OEM is not as safe a deal as it used to be as many OEM copies are tied to specific vendor hardware configurations and will ONLY install on those configs...) -

Acer5005Guy, what were your original vista WEI scores?

I plan to buy either GT725 or W90Vp (Asus), but non of them are going to be sold in here, wonder why the distributors don't sell it here...

Here is an review of the MSI GT725: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=17299

[EDIT]
US versions do NOT get the mouse either. Just the backpack...
seems like the biggest part of the review is his dislike of the styling, which I agree with, but...
[/EDIT] -
but we do get the option of the 1920x1200 screen

This popped out on that review to me, "At the notebook's native resolution of 1,680x1,050, it performs a mighty 106 per cent quicker than the GeForce 9600M GT-powered Zepto Nox A15."
For those who are loving/wanting the 1722/GX720 (9600gt based) form factor, the GT725 is CHEAPER than just about any GX720 out there and the GPU really packs a punch.
~9500 3DMark06 is decent, but if the new 280M Nvidia mobile part really is a upclocked 3700M part (128-CUDA), it will score 12k+ on 3DMark06 in a single card config. I'm really interested to see what a single 4870 mobile part can do. I like that the 4850 competes very effectively against the 9800gt(x). -
As for an overall impression:
If you can get passed the keyboard's truncated keys, you can't beat the GT725 for the price. The laptop is fast, lightweight, well built, and quite small for a 17" laptop.
-
i would also like to know if gpu-z is reading ur 4850 temp as i m havig problem if its working could u also post some temp of ur gpu plz thanks -
also Acer, try the vantage trial version if you have the time too. I'm guessing drivers might be the reason why the temperatures aren't being read, but let's see if Acer's system can report the GPU temps.
-
If anyone needs vantage key for benchmarks, I've got one. feel free to PM me.

OOC how long should I expect the first startup to take? (I was looking at the GX630 reviews (on newegg) and someone mentioned that it took that one about 40m to I guess install Vista and startup the first time...)
(Never owned a notebook before that either didn't come fully OS pre-installed unless I specced it that way...) -
go there and sign up and they will send you a free vantage key.
i did it and got one in less than 24 hours.
so no one should have an excuse now....
pass the word -

I really hope there is a quad version of GT725 directly from MSI(Q9100 or higher), I don't see why they couldn't pushed it out at same time as dual version. Given its basically a 1722, which supports up to QX9300...
-
if you did you would know...*LOL*
quite playing with me and go read the first page.. -
edit, nevermind. I know I'm not seeing things...
-
all legit, already did it before i even posted. to be sure.
can take anywhere from 2 hours to 3 weeks.
Congratulations!
