I just think, if there was HD4850, the HD4870 wont be far behind. If not in MSI laptop, then maybe other vendors will bring that beast :) .

No problem, glad to assist ;)

Can anyone tell me a reason to order a GT725-075 from XoticPC over Newegg? I can actually get it faster since if I use an eCheck with XoticPC it takes 3-5 to clear where Newegg will be same day. Technically be cheaper with Newegg by comparing both paying with credit card. I dont know much about XoticPC but if Ill get higher quality service and support I can wait a few extra days.

I am in the process of ordering one from xoticpc right now, and I must say they have been on the ball as far as customer service goes. Any sort of question I have had about the computer they have answered right away.

Well, the ASUS costs slightly less than what I expected it to, $2500, and I'll bet that it's a boat anchor pretty much eliminating any pretense at portability, given ASUS' other offerings, e.g. G50XYZ series...

2.5 inches thick!!! I could stack 2 GT725's together and only be 2.6 inches thick. LOL that is one massive "laptop". I agree on the superb deal. I would have expected the price to be much more, especially comming from Asus.

BTW UPS states that my gt725 IS ON SCHEDUAL FOR DELIVERY TOMORROW!!
I will be installing my Samsung SSD with Windows 7 64-bit as soon as it arrives.

6.25cm thick, I see what you mean. That literally height of red brick layer, and it makes even Asus G71 look thin, however that may be possible...

Nice one mate, congrats on the ordering; though which samsung SSD have you got?

Got the "used to be the fastest SSD" SATA II 64GB SLC drive. I had it in my 5005wlmi and pulled it out when I sold it.
I have the new 256GB 220write/200read on order. I should have the 256 in the laptop by mid March.

It should.....easily. For BR playback, even a Radeon 2600 will do the job :D as long as u enable h/w acceleration to offload some decoding to the CPU. I don't know what BR playback comes with the 725 but most BR software allow h/w acceleration so that shouldn't be a problem.

On my HTPC (projector setup), I'm using a el-cheapo AMD 4850 dualcore with a Gigabyte 780g integrated mobo solution (onboard ATI3200 with hdmi) and I've never had any issues with both BR and 1080p MKV playback.

Though I found that using stable ATI drivers were the key thing for BR software i.e. with PDVD 7.3, I kept getting random freezes while watching BR movies and after I rolled the drivers to a older revision, the freezing stopped. This was only for BR playback.

    Hi guys,
been in London for two days and so lucky to have found one GT725 at MicroAnvika.

So, I'm very happy, since I came from Italy on pourpose. :D

Any hints for a new owner?
    Should I install anything interesting?
Which drivers are best for my 4850?

Tks a lot in advance, since 93 pages are tooooo long to read.. :D

Got a question about this laptop can the DDR2 system memory ram be upgraded to DDR3, can I upgrade the harddrive later on and how many haddrive's can it hold only one? Finally can the Blu ray/dvd drive be upgraded later on since I think I may end up buying a faster blue ray drive later on.

Thanks to anyone who answer my questions.

I think 725 does not support DDR3, if you want DDR3, your better off looking at GT727, which has the support for it. ;) There is just one slot for hard drive, meaning if you want to upgrade, you have get rid of the 320 GB one.
As for the bluray, I'm sure you can get it at a later date, given this is pretty much based on a 1722.

However, I would probably more expensive GT725-075 if I want to watch Blu-ray, given it has WUXGA screen, as oppose to WSXGA on the 074 model (which has DVD drive only, no bluray); the difference between the two aren't big, but its just personal preference. If you spend this much, might as well just get 075, save you from future hassle of locating parts.

Well, I went ahead an ordered a GT725-074US from newegg. Hope that the X11 drivers are better than I expect or some decent OSS drivers show up soon... Almost chickened out and went with the GT627-218US though...

    [EDIT]
Well it's been charged already (as usual), just hope that they manage to ship it out today... they usually do if you order before 1p PST, but I dunno anymore with their extra c. $4 charge to "expedite" shipping...

Used to be as long as I placed an order by c. 3p EST that it's get charged and shipped out the same day, so I'm hoping that this is still true.

I only took the el cheapo 3d UPS, so if they manage to ship today, I should get it on wednesday, otherwise it'll be thursday...
    [/EDIT]

    [EDIT2 = MUCH later]
    Woot! It shipped!
