no not really. thats what im looking at right now. this would be a awesome take anywhere setup imo

4850 desktop temp: The model that the reviewer claimed 55C max while gaming was an ASUS IIRC(maybe it was an MSI it was several mos. ago now) with the heatsink/heatpipes/fan. I just had a hard time believing it as those are only a little above the temps that nVidia cards usually idle at. (7600Gt in desktop usuallly idles 48-50C and can go up into the 80s under stress, so 55C loaded seemed great, esp since I REALLY need to upgrade that GPU... getting kind of long-in-the-tooth...)
GT725 size: yeah, I was kind of surprised from faisalhero's video when he mentioned weight and size... OTOH the GX620/1651 was a bit larger and heavier than my old powerbooks, but not by enough for me to really comment on. The biggest difference was the size of the PSU.
general nb: I think that ATM I'm going to try to hold out for the GT725-074US, but if I get tired of waiting the GT627-218US doesn't seem much of a step down, and from the owner's thread it seems that several people have sprung for them from newegg now so we should see more user reports here as I found the German review to be, ah, optimistic shall we say esp. considering some of the benchs v. cuib's and the various results in the G50VT thread, plus overclocking of the G50VT's 9800M GS results.
[EDIT]
I'm catching up on the thread again, so I'm tossing in comments etc. all here into one post.
[/EDIT] -
Hey guys. I'm looking forward to becoming a new GT725 Owner, as soon as I can get this POS Acer 8930G returned.
Specs:
Screen - 17' WUXGA LCD
CPU - P9500
RAM - 4GB 800MHz
HDD - Intel 160GB SSD
OD - BluRay Read/Super Multi
OS - Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Looking forward to getting the 3DMark06 crown!
What's the record btw? -
thought you we're just a luv'n that top of he line acer...
-
It is possible for 48xx cards to run cool under load, if you buy the right model. It's not that the series runs inherently hot, it's just that ATI's reference cooler blows on these cards. And not blows in a cool, make your GPU run at lower temperature way.
I'd estimate this mobility 4850 would run around 50C idle and 75C load. -
Power issues, speaker issues, lousy support and Buyer's Remorse have led to me wanting to get rid of this ASAP. -
wow, didn't know it was that bad! is not happy to hear that then!
-
Hehe, you're using stealth mode right?
Anyone know what the record is (for 3dmark06 GT725)? -
yeah, because im playing socom as well..hehe
nope, not yet anyway....10.something for now. -
Yeah, sometimes I do that when I don't want other people to expect immediate answers.
Also guys, help me out with this thread. -
-
Is that your car in the avatar?
-
-
Be nice to have one of those, but they would DEFINITELY be the kind that you DON'T want to carry around with you... 12cell battery, multi-hdd, desktop platform base, PCIe 16... sucker's gonna be HEAVY and LARGE...
Although glancing through the specs again, one thing did catch my eye, the mention of a 2nd battery (N/A in this case), but that IS one feature that I miss from some of the older Apple powerbooks: You could remove the optical drive and slap in a 2nd battery, AND it was REALLY easy to do. (Also liked the easy flip out kb, but then that's how you accessed the memory slots, etc.) -
-
lol should have moulded those into the headliner... and i think you need a 20" in the center of the dash.. no seriously not kidding... i used to own a car audio shop and did all the custom fab work for years. i do that stuff still all the time that would look killer.
i just did a dodge ram and we put a 17" in dash we relocated the air vents and controls and opened up the dash (after removing the skin) and moulded it in. i have a 4 car garage behind my house i do the custom work out of now on the side. -
ahh gotcha. still looks good though. this system we are doing now is getting a pc in a box under the rear seat with mobo and all. that will be connected to the screen in dash which is a touch panel to control it. its going to run vista. with that many screens i would have done a full molded fiberglass headliner for them
but thats the crazy stuff i get into
-
Again, what's the record for 3DMark06?
-
now i dont have anything on it have to start all over again
-
Hmm, 10497.
I think I could best that
What CPU are you using, faisal? -
well thats just a warm up run. i will give u run for ur money -
but it's up and running once again...time to start fresh.. -
A 160GB Intel X-25M SSD should help me. -

Anyone know how easy Win XP pro can be put on it?
and what wont work on it due to not having winxp driver?
i think im in a toss up between the gt725, and asus n81vp -
its under construction but it will be ready by the time you will get ur laptop
how much is asus n81vp what are the spec? -
everybody and these secret weapons and hidden super powers....lol
-
ASUS N81Vp-C1 Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 (2.66GHz) Processor, 14" HD 16:9 (1366x768) LED Display, 4GB DDR2 Memory, 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, DVD Super Multi Drive, ATI HD4650 1GB (1024MB) Graphics Card, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
14 inches, around $1250 -
^^^^^^
wow!
he came in and told ya'll!!
asus to the high power of laptops! and a 14 incher at that....*LOL*
even though this is a msi thread....
side note:
-
I don't think the GT725 and the N81 are in the same category.
Ones a Gaming Desktop Replacement, the other a Portable Multimedia laptop. -
Looking forward to it -

both are pre-order tho, sadly -
-
Asus' N81vp is actually quite a bit more powerful than the rest of the N series (including the 15") and the M50, M70.
Can't wait to see what Asus will do with the VX5. -
Ok, my budget just got a bump and I think I can fit some more stuff into it.
Specs:
17" WSXGA+ Glossy
CPU: T9800 @ 2.93GHz (Should overclock to at least 3.5)
RAM: 4gb 800MHz (2x2)
GPU: 512MB ATI HD4850
HDD: 80GB Intel X-25M SSD
OD: Blu-Ray Read/SuperMulti
OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Should top out at $3100. -
how much of a diff does HDD: 80GB Intel X-25M SSD will make? -
NBR tested a 6530w with a 160GB 7200rpm HDD and another one with an Intel 80GB SSD. PCMark05 jumped up by 3000 points with the SSD, 3DMark06 700 points more, PCMark Vantage 1500 points and Battery Life by like a whole hour.
Pretty worth it, imo. -
i cant wait for these i NEED a light weight 17" to take with me every where.
ill be calling msi tues to see if i can squeeze any more info out of them time frame wise. -
-
-
It shouldn't have an effect on FPS AFAIK. It will reduce the amount of time it takes for maps to load etc.
-
If indeed an SSD gives a 700 point boost in 3DMark06 it just further illustrates how useless that program is as a benchmark and comparison tool.
-
I'm getting a SSD not because of Synthetic Benchmark scores, but for the increase in Battery life and overall speediness.
Opening Photoshop CS3 in 3 seconds *drools*

Could you tell me how the sound system compares to the Toshiba x305 series? That has an amazing sound system....and I'm hoping that with the 725's 4 speakers and subwoofer, it too will have a great sound system. I'm thinking of getting an MSI now, instead of the Toshiba...and I really wish I could see one in person before buying, but I will just watch these discussions closely.

Only games/CAD/and other 3D apps for GPU performance with a particular CPU/mb, and various mathematically heavy calc apps for raw CPU performance "feel".
I just feel that the synthetic benchs are a waste of space and/or filler for reviews... or ast least the ones that bother to actually test products... -
i hear a lot of grief about 3dmark06 but no one seems to want to run vantage mark? cant see why.. this is a gpu or cpu only program. run this and you will know what your gpus are capable of. it does not use your cpu for scoring of the gpu's.

you spend 2000+ on a laptop and ask for everyone else to run benchmarks but are to cheap to buy your own benchmarking software? yeah...pretty ridiculous. i have handed out my serial number to quite a few people to help them get benchmarks to help the laptop community find different answers with different systems, but if your too broke cheap or what ever else excuse people tend to want to use or make up to not spend 20 bucks, then dont ask anyone else to run any type of benchmarks what so ever. (my opinion on the whole affair.) the people i have helped on this was of my own doing, but for all those trying to down play benchmarking...they really need to seriously give it a rest.
personally they should give it away to people who spend that kind of money on a system. they do with asus motherboards. they at least give you 3dmark06. (newer boards)
