Actually you don't need to buy Vantage Advanced key, there was a forum/site where you could get them for free, at least one of my friend got it there. I have to ask him about that site and if the deal is still active. So you can get stuff like that free if you are at the right place at right time. But myself, i bought it from Futuremark site, 19$ :D i am a student but even i can afford that, because its a one time deal. It amazes me that there are persons, who will get cheap, after buying a 2000+ lappy :p

they can pm me and ill give them mine if need be. but it's so we help to build the online database for laptops. since there really isn't one. and been trying to get them to update the mobile gpus as well, so that all of them show up in the benchmark test on orb. this can help verify peoples claims of how fast one system can perform, but with only a hand full of people listed on there...our database is shot out. and that trying to flub scores to get others to buy on a humbug is getting to be ridiculous as well. we all want our moneys worth and we all want to know what we are really getting....at least i would want to know.... :)

no ceremony fees or anything else for that matter.. if ya wanna join then join on up..but be prepared to run just about any and every type of benchmark there is at one time or another. since no one has any idea how well a 4850 will perform, you have your plate full. try to show results in it's truest light so the naysayers have nothing to argue.

Yeah, I bought a $2000 laptop mostly to play games; also for some web surfing, word processing, 3d rendering here and there but yeah...mostly for gaming. You can call me cheap and call it ridiculous all you want, but I'm not going to pay extra just to see how my computer performs or to measure how long my e-peen is.

I ask people to run benchmarks, namely 3dmark06 because it's FREE! Just like I ask people to run demo benchmarks or benchmarks of games they already have because games are actually worth paying for.

I agree with Ichime :) hey its one thing to spend $$$ on a toy. its another to shell out $$ for software for just one use. demo's and 3dmark are fine in my book. If your a professional reviewer then purchasing benchmarking suites makes sense. for 'joe average gamer' it doesn't make any sense unless you got tons of cash to waste

Well, the trial key (the one for just one use) is actually free, and I think the next step up is $10 the basic edition. But yeah, I agree that this pricing tactic is trying to orient itself towards professional reviewers overclocking enthusiasts and such. Seems futuremark is trying to profit more from the basic edition, as opposed to the free basic editions since 2001.

My original point was actually to explain why people here don't see a lot more Vantage runs compared to 3dmark06 on this site, but since Johnksss likes to call me out from time to time, thought I would respond accordingly ;)

Does anyone know of a timeframe this is going to be available in the US? All online sites just say pre-order, without a date.

Also, if those of you that own it could tell me how the sound system is, with all the speakers and subwoofer....

wasn't really taking about you just speaking in general.
and that e-peen line is old as hell as well. :)
no need to explain. you like many others ask for benchmarks. hell, i ask for them..but i can't ask if im not willing to indulge also myself.

all this talk about extra cash, but yet most of you would spend money on drugs/alcohol/tobacco/over the counter drugs...but up in arms about a 20 dollar software...lmao! too dammn funny.

Wow faisalhero's Vantage GPU score beats my 9800M GT 5489 vs 4523, and I was running a 600/1500/900 overclock at the time.

I found some 9800m GTX Vantage GPU scores and i'm very surprised because they are all under 5000 points. Is it possible that the ATI Mobility 4850 is really faster than the 9800m GTX? This would be great because I've also ordered a GT725 :) The scores of the 9800m GTX are from notebookcheck.com.

What do you think about that?

when comparing the 9800M GTX vs Mobility HD4850 stock vs stock, the 9800M GTX scores higher in 3dmark06 (9700 vs 9400 with same CPU), while the HD4850 scores higher in Vantage (5000 vs 4400 with the HD4850 system having a slower CPU).

3DMark2006 is a very old benchmark and the difference in vantage is bigger. So can we say that it is confirmed that the Mobility 4850 is the faster card than the 9800m GTX? The problem is that for a lot of reviewers like notebookcheck.com 3dmark2006 is still the more important benchmark.

They're apparently in stock at Frostcomputers.com AND MSI's own website.

Frosty has the GT725-074US for $1369, and IIRC $1649 for the more expensive one.

On the MSI site the -074US is $1449?! and the -075 is$1699... (not going to be ordering from MSI I guess...)

I think that he might have a cash discount, but I never really checked as his lack of product knowledge made me feel slightly queasy...

$1349 is supposedly the MSRP, but I can't help but wonder if they'll lower this too like they did on the GT627s, but in that case we'd likely have to wait for newegg or Amazon to get them in...

Does anybody know the CPU can be upgraded on the 725? I'm planning to go with the standard P8600 for now but if the need arises, I'd like to be able to upgrade the CPU myself.....if possible.

    Thanks

Why would you need to change the CPU? Isn't turbo mode enough (~2.9GHz)?

Should be upgradeable upto a QX9300 with a BIOS update (or an X9100 without it). But if you plan on going for the Extreme processors, it's highly recommend that you lower the multipliers (as opposed to increase it) if you plan on using the turbo feature with it. That's if the BIOS will allow one to adjust the multipliers.

Why not? Upgrading the CPU essentially gets you more multipliers (OCing in that respect) but turbo mode just OCs the FSB (but I guess that does put some strain on the CPU), but it shouldn't matter since these Intel CPUs can go to hell and back for OCing ability.
