so the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 drivers, are there specific "Mobility" series drivers? or can you use the same desktop Catalyst drivers?

I was reading Notyou's quote and a thought occured to me. I am really glad I found you bunch of Laptop Entrepreneurs :D ( coin me on that term ). I am never going to buy another desktop again; I just didn't realize there were gaming laptops out there under $2000 bucks. Heck before my laptop came out, there were lappies like the Asus G2P, and the Toshiba X-205 that ran at least $2000 and weren't even close to a low end desktop. Now we have laptops going for $1500 like this MSI GT725 that match midrange desktops. To seal the deal even more are like minded people who know what it takes to own a dang fine laptop and know their benchmark scores. I don't know what I want to do with my life exactly, I know it's going to involve computers no matter what; but I know one thing, I love yappin about this stuff. But I have already had to correct a few individuals with macbooks on what my Gateway could do.So I'm just tired of ignoramous Dell and Mac owners putting my Gateway down because of the 1.66ghz processor, yet don't even realize my lappy would spank their $2600 dollar MBpro all over the place in all other tasks.

I'm just saying .... Thanks for bein you

Aw that's sweet like syrup: Sappy.

Haha j/k tho welcome to the club.

I kinda wanna see how many FPS this laptop can get in TF2

If anyone does have a copy or a steam account that a 725 owner can use, it'd be nice to see some TF2 benches with high settings / no aa at native resolution (1050)

Yes you can use the Catalyst drivers, but you have to use this mod tool. 4850 is not listed yet. I'm sure it will be on there soon.

I am curious, would anyone be able to ship the MSI GT725 to the UK? I mean, if I order it from the US. Cause I really don't want the UK version of it :D

for those that care - i bought a GT725 from microanvika last thursday. I've tested it until I got the promised 10k plus benchmarks, then tone it down for day to day use. I have played crysis for a fair while (friday/sat) and enjoyed it (i.e. perfectly playable at decent graphic settings). However - on sunday, upon starting it up, it just about got into vista when the screen went a gray/white in a bad way with nothing responding. It soon became apparent that the laptop had crashed in a bad way. Upon hard reseting and restarting, there was significant corruption of the screen (a big, over inch wide, gash of nasty yellow and red overlayed the screen through the MSI logo and initial windows loding screen). It failed to load vista. Upon restarting again, more corruption, but it did get into windows, where is stated there ware a major grahics hardware failure it had "recovered from". Several restarts later, and it still starts up with corruption. Just tonight I tried to reinstall two variants of the ati drivers - ones that came on cd with it (8.12?) and the new, off website, 9.1 drivers. Neither will install correctly at all - Now I am only able to see a generic screen size up to 1400/900, and nothing mentioned for the graphics hardware type. I have come to the conclusion it's buggered, and I am therefore taking it back under the 28 day guarantee.. they have no more in stock, so I will just have to get a refund and wait a bit longer, arse

if you have any suggestions, or indeed if others like faisel get similar problems, let me know!

mine laptop is going strong i been playing crysis every nite a around 5 hours and i nealy finished it.

i been doing alots of bmark and testing my laptop quite a bit nothing has gone wrong so far.

so it might be just that unit.

did microanvika offer u any discount regarding the res not being 1900x1250 ?

Hmm, scores seem a bit too high (from what I've seen, but maybe drivers helped things over the past months), but if that's accurate, that's a killer score. Anyone have 9800M GT or GTX scores to compare? I'm actually having trouble finding some comparable ones @ 1680x1050.

wow!!! amazing scores! I can't wait to get this laptop! additionally I'm keeping in mind that this was on a 32-bit Vista with 3GB ram, maybe +1 or +0.5 FPS with 64-bit and 4GB 800MHZ ram!

Was this benchmark taken in the factory "turbo mode" and GPU was OC to 550mhz core 900mhz memory?

Yeah, something is off here; How does gamer in Warhead stack up compared to regular Crysis? Does gamer = high settings and enthusiast = very high? If that's the case, then I guess those numbers seem right seeing that Warhead is supposed to be more optimized than the first game. But then again, I've seen 9800M GTXs and GTs getting around 18-20ish fps at 1920x1200 at those same settings.

I wonder if the GTX280 might have been held back by the 2.0gb of RAM there. My system has 2gb of RAM and I run vista Ultimate, and I'm at 40% usage sitting on the desktop. Either way, that's insane... if the 4850 keeps up those kinds of shenanigans well... it could just be the next 8800 gtx in the gamer world.

Ok. Someone help me with this before I throw my notebook through a wall.

I got the game installed with no problems. When I go to the options menu and change the resolution from 1024x768, my touchpad buttons stop working and any changes I've made go back to default. I can't figure this out, and I'm steaming. I might've even messed things up with the wife lol.

you may need to hit alt+enter a few times to get the screen res to sink up.

Couldn't the reason for the difference in FPS be found in the fact that one of them is running Vista Ultimate (john and fasial(?)) and the other is running the Windows 7 Ultimate Beta (kevin)?

There might still be some driver optimization issues with Windows 7.

I can't get the results to show up in the bench folder, but by eye my DX10 averages, High settings at 16x10 were around 12.65 frames per second.

That might have something to do with it, but I noticed that my fps went up since using the Win7 beta, so either Nvidia's Win7 drivers are crap/ATI's are amazing, or the 4850 is amazing.

hmm, and you ran the benchmark program as an administrator, correct?

It might be that the Tool can't change the in-game settings for some reason. Your card (the mobility 4850) should be scoring similarly to the 9800M GT and GTXs if you factor in res and performance scaling based on these results:
