    ahhh, I think I know what the problem is (and why I despise Vista). Try running the Crysis benchmark tool as an administrator (right click on the application and go to run as administrator), then try the benchmarking again.

    when you installed it, did you say yes to everything. and if it asked to install dx9 did you click yes for that as well? (i forget if that is the game asking for that)
    also turn off that windows user account control.

    maybe why i never had a problem installing..i never have that on as well.

    also try it with x-fire on and off. see if anything changes..

    cool!
    make sure you set it up in game first as ichime suggested else you will get a false benchmark.

    so first run is 1680x1050
    everything set to "high"
    don't get fancy just yet...lol
    click apply at both sets of screens. one for res and one for the all high settings.
    exit out of game.
    then run the benchmarking tool and set it exactly how it's set in game.
    and no you can't run two different test one right after the other. you will have to go back in game and change them again.

    Also give 1440x900 @ high a shot too, seems to be the sweet spot for a system like yours (i.e. Gateway fXs, Clevos with single 9800M GTs, GTXs, etc.)

    I have a couple nub questions:
    -what does the option "Vsync" technically do?
    -upgrading to a Windows 64-bit, how much FPS boost would there be on Crysis (with 4GB ram)?

    Vsync basically caps framerates (usually to 30fps), so the maximum FPS won't go over that value.

    The performance difference between Windows 64-bit and 32 bit in Crysis is often negligible.

    V-sync basicllay prevents the game from stuttering by locking it up @ certains fps to keep running smooth constantly.

    15fps
    20fps
    30fps
    45fps
    60fps

    for benchmarking this setting should be disabled.

    you will see a performance increase. but the x64 versoin is not to stable. when i last used it.

    I'm currently laptopless after selling mine, so the benchmarks I did were with a downclocked HD 4850.

    There are threads in the Gaming forum for how to overclock.

    Well, according to what we've seen and been told, the max clocks are 550mhz core and 900mhz memory. Maybe using an external overclocking tool could help go past that value, but you'll have to test if it's stable first.

    Yeah, it was pretty accurate, though it was DX9. I also ran and posted something similar but in Vista and DX10, and it was also within 1fps of what faisal posted.

    Well, this is just one game, but seems that stock vs stock, the 4850 is stronger at those settings, though the GTX can make up for it with its higher OC ability for now.

    But, Red_dragon I already tracked down that thread when the 4670/4850/4870 mobile radeons were announced and AMD demoed it on an ASUS W90 with crossfired 4870s, scoring c. 15k 3DMark06. The links are buried WAY back in this thread somewhere...

    [EDIT]
    @ichime
    VSYNC, or the VERTICAL REFRESH RATE of your display, ~60Hz in the case of most LCDs, which means if VSYNC is enabled the game engine(or whatever) will try to limit(or match if below) 60FPS, which should be in this case.

    75Hz -> 75FPS
    85Hz -> 85FPS
    etc.

    VSYNC off, the engine/app/whatever will attempt to generate and render as many FPS as it possibly can, but may result in some visual artifacts, e.g. tearing

    32 bit SP 1 will show it, but is still unable to utilize it. And yes, you can use it to install 64 bit. You just need to get an install disc from somewhere.

    Hey guys,

    I'm finally converting from desktop to notebook and am about to pull the trigger and buy a new laptop.

    So far, the scores here are impressive...but I'm waiting to see what the NVIDIA guys are up to before I buy anything.

    Regardless, those scores are tempting...What driver is MSI using for this?

    Has anyone run more benchmarks?

    NVidia won't have a response until late Q4 2009 or Q1 2010 with the GT200 series. Even then, we still haven't seen the HD 4870 in action yet.

    Cat 8.11 or something newer? Drivers are the only scary thing about these new ATI GPUs.

    The only 15"er that'll (possibly) have this would be the m15x and M860TU (and others based on this chassis, since they both currently support the 9800M GT).

    He should be on 9.1's. What's wrong with new drivers, you'd rather be a beta tester for Nvidia?
