Hello guys. I'm about to order the gt60 2oc 022US from gentechpc and I'm getting the free ic diamond thermal paste upgrade. My question is, will gentechpc open up my computer to install the paste or will MSI do it and if gentechpc does do it will it be reliable/safe? (I don't want missing screws or insecure parts.)

Also the official msi website (also BestBuy.com) say that this laptop comes with a 750gb 7200rpm hdd but gentechpc has a 1tb 5400rpm hdd at stock and charges $65 for the upgrade. Can anyone who purchased their laptop from gentechpc confirm whether the hdd is a 7200rpm or 5400rpm? Also will the 1tb 5400rpm 8mb cache be sufficient for gaming? (Is the difference noticeable?)

    Thanks in advance.

Any repaste work would be done by the reseller.

I just received my GT60 2OC - 022US from Gentech. It did indeed come with the 1TB 5400 rpm drive. In my case, this was what I wanted, since I have an SSD for the second slot. For gaming, you would be fine with a 5400 rpm drive, but for overall responsiveness in Windows and for faster load times, you should consider an SSD. You can always add your own later since the computer includes two slots.

Thanks again to everyone who helped answer my previous questions. Can a gentechpc customer that got an ic diamond repaste tell me if the gentechpc service did a good job repasting? I'm kind of nervous about that upgrade. I don't want them to damage the internals of the laptop. Plus is it really worth it to repaste the cpu/gpu? Thanks.

Several websites state that the gt60 has 4 memory slots and based on pictures two are easily accessed. Can anyone post pictures or describe where the other slots are?

The best buy gt60 model comes with a 7200rpm HDD. Will this model have lower battery life compared to the 5200rpm one on amazon. (One thread stated that it could result in a 30 minute loss in battery life.) Which one should I go with? Is the battery life loss that tremendous?

This can be a hassle and is not guaranteed. It will also be very expensive, even a year from now. It is my opinion that if you want the 780M, you should buy it now to avoid headaches down the line.

I ordered mine through gentech with repaste. I havent opened it up to inspect but all of my temps have been fine at idle and gaming. Others on the boards have noted the same thing from them. In fact some people recommend a repaste from the reseller because MSI sometimes does a poor job. I would get the ic diamond with confidence....especially since it is a free upgrade!

Thanks everyone. I am a couple clicks away from buying the bestbuy model with a 7200rpm hdd and am hoping it will still reach around 5 hours of battery life. Otherwise i will return it and get a 5400rpm model.

Been playing Skyrim a lot lately. Picked up where I left off from my desktop. Turned all settings to max, 32 - 45 fps. Most of the time it would stay 35ish, 27 is the lowest I've seen. After two hours of playing the GPU reached 69c and cpu 68c. This laptop runs awesomely cool! I guess this would be a plus point for anyone lookikg to buy. And this is on the default paste job. IC diamond would help I think.

Is that with lowest brightness, limit CPU, etc. (All of the power saving tweaks enabled?) It would be great if 4.5 hours could be achieved with balanced settings.

BTW a large ssd is too far out of my budget but will Intel smart response technology help me save some battery?

Can't seem to get drivers from the links above. It just sends back to the official product page. Trying to download network drivers. My speedtest dropped from 5mps+ in win 7 to way less than 1mps with the Gt70 2oc win 8....virtually unusable! Any suggestions anyone.

Has anyone else had problems getting the newest Nvidia drivers (320.49) to install? From the 2OD forum, I see that they were having to modify the .inf and allow for unsigned drivers to be installed. I know the 320.49 drivers include support for the GTX770M, so it must be that the specific model of our card is not detected by them yet. Any idea on how long this might take? Does MSI have to supply something to Nvidia in order for us to get drivers? It would be nice to not always need to modify the .inf.

    Thank you.

I have the same problem when I try to update the drivers as well. When I use the auto detect feature on nvidia's website it recognizes I have a 770m, but it says "Your product manufacturer requires you to download a driver for your device from their website." I don't know how often MSI updates their drivers . . .

Is there something wrong with my display? I can't seem to play PES 2013 on my notebook screen and yet, I can play it on my Sony TV without lagging through HDMI. PES 2013 is the least demanding game I know. So how come PES 2013 is having issues with my display while crysis runs awesome?

I got back my laptop from RMA. It's now in working order. I had two problems right off the bat (that I had with my older laptop). In case of someone stumbling on them, I'll post them.

The first one was that I couldn't put my laptop to sleep without it crashing while it was plugged to another monitor via HDMI (there was no problem if there was no external monitor plugged in). After investigating a lot, it turned out that there's some kind of conflict between the Nvidia HD sound drivers and Realtek HD sound driver with the hdmi component. I just deactivitated the nvidia hd sound driver in the driver panel and everything works perfect.

The second one was Qualcomm Killer Network Manager (or something like that). Everytime I booted up, he wanted to retest my bandwidth. I just reinstalled the driver and the manager and everything is in order now.

Same here. I can't update the driver just yet. I don't know if MSi will ever update their driver base. I guess I can wait as I don't guess my card will be incredibly better just because there's a new driver.

Can some of you guys post some temps after a gaming session? I'm having doubts about mine. I think my GPU is under performing... Here's what happened : I played Skyrim yesterday for three hours. I had HWmonitor active all the time. Settings were set to ultra. 34ish fps average. GPU temp max : 62 , CPU temp max : 59. This seems too low from what I've read. It damn hot where I live, 30c average all year round. So, was wondering, could someone of you guys that has got skyrim do a test and post the temps just to see. also would like to know the fps. And one more thing to mention is I'm on the factory paste job, which seems to a sloppy one from what I see on these forums.

    Thanks

Can someone tell me the max settings the gt60 can use when playing bf3? (1080p, 45-50 fps and above)

Also how long do you guys thing the 770m or the gt60 2oc will last based on futures game releases? 2 years?

I played skyrim for about 15 minutes at ultra (1980x1080 from my external monitor in HDMI). It was almost always at 60 FPS. It sometime dipped at 45 FPS while I was in the world map, specifcally in some tree areas. However, normally, in towns or in the world map in general, I was at 60 FPS.

Temperature maxed out at 74C for my GPU. However, it was hovering at 67-70C most of the time. The room I'm in is quite cool (in the basement) at around 20C.

Notebookcheck report a 49 FPS average while playing Skyrim at ultra with the same resolution as me with this graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M - NotebookCheck.net Tech .

I was downloading Bioshock Infinite while I was playing.

    1. Can someone please link a photo of the GT70's innards? I can't understand how many SSD's and mSATA's will fit because I don't know how many bays there actually are - nor do I know what a bay looks like, which is why I can't figure this out for myself.

    2. If you customize an msi so that the CD-ROM is replaced by an SSD, will the SSD perform as well as if it were installed in a "native" HDD/SSD bay? (I mean, is the ODD connected via SATA III)

    3. How does the screen of the GT70 2OC compare to the Asus G750JX? I'm leaning towards getting the GT70 2OC and the only thing that might dissuade me is if the screen is worse than the G750JX. Notebookcheck's review for the G750JX is based on a preview model which may or may not have the same display as those currently being sold.

Also, I went to check out the GT70 2OC and GT60 (whatever it's called) and I think I noticed something, but I would need confirmation. Is it just me, or on the GT70, is the trim around the display really glossy? Whereas the trim around the GT60's display is really matte? Am I imagining this?

I can confirm that the GT60 bezel is matte, and the notebookcheck review says that the GT70 bezel is matte as well. So both look to be matte.

Hello everyone, I'm not a gt70/60 2OC owner yet but hopefully soon.

I wanted a gaming laptop so I can game on the move. I'm leaning towards 770m, 780m just too expensive for my budget.
I'm not a heavy gamer nor do i need the highest performance. Currently I have a gaming pc with HD5850 CF.

    On my pc, I can barely play F1 2012 @ 1620x1050/ultra averaging 20+ fps. On Notebookcheck.net 770m plays the same game @FHD/ultra average 70+ fps. But my HD5850 CF scores 6321 (3dmark 11) and 20252 (3dmark vantage). Both higher than 770m.

Is this right? did i miss something?

Thank you Erythro73 for that. I think I was worried for nothing. In caves, inns or towns, mine was a 60fps too all around. That 34 average fps I said, was at a heavily snowing wooded area. Thats an acceptable fps right for those areas right? Although I didnt even sense a lag at all, just the fraps counter said so. Also, outside the towns, in those wooded areas, I got mostly 50 fps too, sometimes dips to 40fps. Just played for some hours, 63 CPU max, 61 GPU max. 30c degree outside my house. Who says single fan sucks in MSi's? Anyways, +rep to you bro! Thanks!

The 770m beats a single desktop 5850. Radeon HD 5850 vs GeForce GTX 770M

Crossfire 5850's could be better but won't always perform well in newer games because of crossfire issues and lack of driver support.

Agree. Single GPU solutions are mostly better that dual GPU's. Most games doesn't go along well with SLI/Crossfire. Some games do, but single GPU will give you better price/performance ratio.

Ok, so the two mSATA's that are parallel to each other are in RAID 0, and the one to the left, perpendicular to the other two, is a standalone mSATA, correct?

    So this means that you can have 3 mSATA's + 1 HDD, or 1 SSD + 1 mSATA + 1HDD, but no other combinations are possible, right? (Specifically, you can't have 2 mSATA's in RAID 0 + 1 SSD + 1 HDD).....

Lastly, does anyone know whether the optical drive occupies a SATA II or SATA III bay? I've noticed some resellers allow you to swap out the optical drive for an SSD, while others only allow you to swap it out for an HDD, while some allow it only on certain variants of the GT 2OC.... very confusing.

    Hey Guys,

I'm new here and have read many of your posts over the past couple of weeks while waiting to be able to order and receive my New GT70.
I have found many posts to be very helpful and informative and appreciate the work you guys have put into this thread.

Now on to the reason i started this post. I have just received my GT70 and I'am VERY PLEASED to say the least. I was able to play Bioshock Infinite as long as i wanted to, on the top settings and the laptop didn't even break a sweat. I plan to run it through a BF3, Crysis and Hitman test, and hopefully i am as pleased as i was with Bioshock.

The only problem i see at the moment with the laptop is that the Glossy rim around the keyboard seems to scuff easily. But i think this is a small issue if, an issue at all, with how well the laptop performs. )If anyone has any suggestions on how to possibly keep it clean i would appreciate it)

Overall i think this laptop was worth my Investment and look forward to posting more on this thread.

The base models have two SATA III hard drive bays. The mSata connector is available on the upgraded models, it takes up one of the hard drive bays. The mSata connector allows you to insert 1,2 or 3 mSata drives and set them as individual drives or with RAID 0 or 1. Check the Gentech website, they allow any of these options.

The optical bay is SATA III, you can swap it for a drive caddy on any of the current GT models.
