hey everyone,
i just got my gt70 2oc, super happy with it. i love how well my games run now. just upgraded from a 5 year old dell.
so 2 things,
first. i had a really hard time finding the driver/manual page on the msi site so i figured i would share the link since i didn't see it posted in here. (the one at the start of the thread takes you to a 404.)
link: MSI Global GT70 2OC
second, i had a kind of odd thing come up with my computer and i tried searching for this with no luck. some of you may know that blizzard has a program that pulls stats from your system to use for profile. when i ran this it said i had an intel hd 4600 instead of the gtx770 but when i ran the heaven benchmark it says i have the 770. when i go into the device manager sure enough both are listed there. is there any way to disable this intel one so that the system will only run the 770? i went into the bios and didn't see anything in there.
anyways, thanks for any help you can give. -

The intel is used for optimus and must be on for the internal display and VGA to work.
If optimus is causing you issues the HDMI out and displayport go through straight to the 770M and do not use optimus. -

Looks like I'm joining this club. I have a GT70 2OC on the way. Adding a Crucial M500 240GB and another 8GB of RAM to it. Super psyched!

Does anyone know if the 8gb of RAM on the 2OC-065US occupies a single DIMM or is 2x4gb?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will use 2x4GB.

Hi there. Been reading this thread for a while and got convinced of buying this laptop. I haven't been able to find any tips on how to actually install the ssd (first time for me). While we are at it, I was thinking of buying a Samsung 840 Evo 250 gb. Will it work on my model?
Cheers -

Hi there everyone,
there seems to be a problem that occurs, when i lower my graphics resolution ir order to reduce my temps.
I get this msg saying warning windows is at memory loss(RAM FULL). but when play at 1920 x 1080 it works fine.
Does anyone know whats causing the memory loss here -

Can you use task manager to check processes tab as well as performance tab? Verify whether if your physical memory is exhausted or not. -
no its same as supplied with original
8 gb that is, Actually had the same prblem with my toshiba laptop that was i5 3rd gen 2 gb 740 m nvidia card -

Check if any software that you commonly use on both systems that is outdated and find a newer version to replace it. -
I wanted to buy another adapter - but the one I see says 200-400v 19v 9.5A which equals 180.5
but my laptop says:
200-240v 19.5V 9.2A which equals 179.4
would it still be safe to use on my GT70 20C? Thanks -

It's a known issue with windows 8.1, did you upgrade install it?
-
So does anyone happen to know of a way to 'end task' an app (or at least what Windows 8.1 task manager calls an app) without also ending the corresponding process? Seems like a viable solution.
EDIT: See this post for a fix to the KLM/SCM issue.
Also, does anyone know how to disable Synaptics swipe features? My charms keep popping up when I get too close to the right side of the touchpad. There's no option to disable it using MSI's latest Synaptics drivers, the official drivers from the Synaptics website are incompatible, and the registry tweak didn't work for me. -

Please list them from your BIOS under System Information. -
BIOS Version: E16F4IMS.50H
BIOS Build: 09/12/2013 09:03:46
EC Version: 16F4EMS1 Ver5.05
EC Build: 07/23/2013
I'm assuming I'll want the 50S version of the BIOS, is this correct? Are there any special instructions to update the BIOS or do I just use the built-in UEFI tool? What about the EC? And just to clarify, the firmware section of the downloads contains the EC update, correct?
Thanks so much! -

Hello Im thinking of buying a MSi GT60 2OC-022US the only downside of it I could see is the 8GB of ram and the slow HDD but the deal for the rest was amazing. So I was thinking of buying it and upgrading down the road, but Im hella confused on SSD upgrade. Some one was saying that this model doesnt have mSATA slots so upgrading to SSD would be difficult? And can some one clarify the amount of RAM slots and their configuration in this model?
Edit: And could some one explain in reality do I even need an SSD? Does it help with gaming in a major way? I heard some one speak about streaming video stuttering with slow HDD would this model be in risk for that? And whats a good amount of RAM for gaming what I mean by that would the amount of RAM in this model would keep up with the CPU and GPU.
Edit2: ok so I figured out that this model has 2 SATA3 slots and SATA is real SSD port and mSATA is just mobile ones so I think all is good in SSD region now only if some one could explain the whole deal with RAM in this model -
Hi again. Because of a random twist of fate I had to cancel my order on a GT60 2OC, and happened to come across a Qosmio X75-A7103KL. Besides the 17" display, which one would you recommend? So far the only "buts" in the GT60/70 series is that some people find that they have bad heat dissipation; on the other hand, I have read that the Qosmio lacks some craftsmanship and it also has (or at least had) some wifi connection problems (plus I don't know if it can support an additional SSD like the GT60, it says it brings a hybrid 8 GB HD and I don't know what that is). I'd appreciate your feedback guys.
Cheers. -

The msi is better in the areas mentioned, the cooling is easy to fix if it is slightly out and has a much better audio system than other machines.

An SSD will only help with gaming in terms of level loading time. It is nice to have one, Windows and other applications start up so much faster and you can multitask a lot more without things slowing down. If you're going to buy a decently specced laptop, then you should definitely consider an SSD. The gaming benefit isn't huge, but it makes just about everything else so much faster.
I have 32GB in my GT70 (I bought one with 8GB memory and the 7200rpm HDD, then upgraded to 32GB and a 500GB SSD + the original HDD). Under normal circumstances (when I'm not running 6 virtual machines at the same time or using a ramdisk) I haven't seen it actually use more than 8GB. Counting standby memory it does eventually use all 32GB, but most of the time it won't go above 16GB. Above 16GB is fairly pointless, and 8GB is fine for most people in my opinion. -

8gb is enough for the vast majority of users.

Sorry to ask this question again but, what is the process to update bios and ec on Windows 8.1? I downloaded the 50S bios because im on 5.00 but idk which firmware to download? Since I have a full-color back lit keyboard should I get firmware 1511 or is there another deciding factor? Finally, what are the advantages to updating bios and ec? Thanks.

Hey everyone,
I bought a GT 60 2OC 003US a few months back and I've been experiencing problems with the stock HDD so I was thinking of getting a SSD. I'm just confused about what I ought to get, I never opened up my casing so I don't know what sort of SSD would be suitable for the laptop. I'd greatly appreciate the help.
Regards,
Shadman. -

Thanks for replying; I'll do that as soon as I get the chance. So if it's mSATA I should be getting the bare-bone mSSD, right? And if it's a standard hard drive bay I should be getting a 2.5in SSD? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Right mSATA if you have those slots, regular SSD if you have a SATA connection like a regular hard drive.
-
Can you also tell me the proper procedures to install them? (Sorry I'm paranoid about bricking my laptop.)
Thanks -
bit of an odd issue, my fan does not ramp up no matter what i do, i cannot install the latest EC because it is not on the website (gives me an error when trying to download) i just updated my bios and it didn't help, i cant game unless i put the turbo on, any thoughts?

Hi guys! I've been reading alot lately here in the forums looking for a new laptop.. After doing research seems there's no really good quality 14" gaming laptop right now. Currently I'm looking at the GT60 with 770m. I kinda like the design and it seems it doesn't have the temp problem encountered by the GE40. So should I get it now or wait till maxwell arrives? thanks!!

511 is the latest EC firmware.
http://dl.msi.com/download_files/frm_exe/w8_16F4EMS1.511.zip
In the BIOS package, unzip it first, then double-click on FLASHWIN.BAT.
In the EC package, unzip it first, then double-click on AUTOFLASH.EXE.
Once the BIOS update is applied, the system will shut down by itself.
Simply wait, and turn it back on to apply the EC update.
For EC reset, be sure to disconnect the AC adapter as well as the battery to complete the reset.
Reconnect AC adapter and battery, that's it.
