I love that you can upgrade the cpu and the gpu on this laptop, makes the future feel a little less daunting lol

This is actually a very important factor for a lot of users because they do appreciate this freedom offered by this chassis.

Hey, I'm new to these forums!

I'm thinking of getting either the MSI GT70 2OC-218UK 17.3" or the MSI GT70 2OC-614UK True FHD 17.3". As far as I can tell the differences between the two are the RAM amount and Hard Drive Size. 16Gb RAM + 750Gb or 8Gb RAM + 1Tb respectively. The 614UK is also 250£ cheaper, as I think it is an older model. Is there any other difference I'm missing?

Also how easy is it to install a new 8Gb stick of RAM on the 614UK to go dual channel? And is it possible to get a Portuguese Keyboard layout?

    Thanks all

That's what each SKU differs to another SKU.
GT70 2O series are the current generation.
218UK is an older configuration while 614UK is newer.
The system is running dual-channel regardless the amount of memory modules.
Two memory modules underneath the keyboard, and two on the back side.

For the regional keyboard, I suppose you can only obtain it through that particular region.

You would have to contact a local reseller as the uk machine you listed will only come with a UK keyboard.

    Thanks for your help.

I was under the impression that its beneficial to have two memory sticks of 4Gb rather than one of 8Gb?
would it be possible to change just a few keys on the Keyboard, doing it myself?

No, since the mechanism is quite delicate and you can't replace individual keys. Just set the software to use your original layout and the keys will act as those rather than what is printed on them.

Hey guys, im thinking of biting the bullet and getting the MSI GT60 2OC-023US with the GTX770m.

I was/am torn between MSI and Sager/Clevo. The main pro for the MSI is that it comes with the OS and is quite a bit more flashier, while the sager has the dual fan system.

Originally I wanted the one with the A10 and 8970m combo, but have only heard bad things about it in regards to the weak CPU and throttling

Would the i7+770m combo be a better bet than the A10+8970m one? even though the 8970m is considerably more powerful?

Also, any idea if MSI plans to release a set of new laptops with the rumored GTX 870m anytime soon? Basically should i wait? (for a month), or just get the GT60 now?

Go for the 770m machine, the 870m appears to be a rebrand.

So my gt70 2OC comes with a graphic card which is Intel HD 4600 and GTX 770m 3GB DDR3?
But when I upgrade my nvidia during the restart procedure it tells me the driver is not detected.. Does it mean my graphic card has been jacked off?

Heh guys, I got a GT70 20C back in November, and it was BSODing all the time with the included 1TB win 8 boot drive and 2x4GB of ram. I swapped out the ram and put dual msata SSD's on a jmicron raid adapter, with dual 1TB drives as my data drives. I installed the dual SSD's in the slot that the 1TB HDD was in, and now sometimes they aren't deteced on the first boot/reboot, and my system will occasionally lock up after one and a half to two days uptime. Any Ideas?
I also installed windows 7 64bit ult sp1 instead of going with win 8, so I have to run in legacy mode now in the bios.

cussy, i have this exact machine and it FLYS! BF4 all high settings, post AA high, >60fps. I took windows 8 off and put windows 7 on. I had a few issues with bluetooth and the trackpad on windows 8, those issues have been dismissed after moving to windows 7. i also re-pasted the cpu and gpu with IC diamond paste and changed the included thermal pads to higher quality 0.5mm pads. Also, downloading Pherein's fan tool allows you to make fan profiles which IMO is needed on this machine because its either too quiet and hot, or too loud with cooler boost enabled. Some food for thought. Overall I LOVE this machine now that I've tweaked it a bit.

Orange = dedicated GPU active on an application.
White = dedicated GPU shut off.

excuse me for my limited knowledge here, but does limiting FPS helps in reducing temperatures, if not any other solution, since my avg temps are around 80-90 when playing games cod ghosts bkls ops 2 or other latest cod games

Limiting FPS can help reduce temps yes because the GPU is not working as hard. 80-90C is OK for gaming temps though and nothing to worry about, the video card is designed to handle those temps. But if you want to lower performance for lower temps you can do so.

There's a type of cleaning solution designed for LCD/LED screens.
Personally, I just use microfiber cloth with water.

Make sure the cloth is mildly moist rather than wet and you can dry it with a dry micro fibre.

Pff, I'm facing a stuck pixel... Hopefully not a dead pixel. When running those color changing programs, it only appears on some of them. Gonna leave them run for a while and hope it gets fixed. Replacement is not an option :(.

I a assuming it's one of the sub pixels that is damaged, it's the one where it's black.

I have a question for MSI GT60 20C-022US , i don't care about mSATA or Super RAID 2 , i'm not gonna use it but for some seller said have secondary HDD bay
    So do GT60 20C-022US really have 2 x hdd 2.5" , so i could add 2 x Samsung 840 pro SSD with RAID 0 ,
And does the BIOS support RAID 0 ?

You can still do RAID with both standard 2.5" SATA bays.
Default SATA mode in the BIOS is AHCI, just go in and change it to RAID, then reinstall OS.

so it's really support RAID with 2 x 2.5" HDD that would be great ... couse there's no spec detail on MSI official Website
if i put Samsung 840 pro 2x RAID 0 it would be the fastest laptop on earth ... haha

Yes there are two 2.5" bays which both support SSD drives so you can put the in RAID 0. Check out the Samsung Evo drives instead of Pro. They are a little better bang for your buck.

    Hello and welcome everyone

I have small problems with my GT60 2OC. After I updated to windows 8.1 I get BDOS when getting the PC out of sleep (especially if it had a HDMI cable plugged in). Also, quite often after I shut it down it stays powered on, with the keyboard and power button flashing, but a black screen and no other response. Keeping the power button pressed for a moment is the only thing that can be done. I think a BIOS update might be the thing I need, so I've did some research on the forum and I feel a bit confused. I've checked my BIOS version:

    BIOS version: E16F4IMS.503
    EC Version 16F4EMS1 Ver5.00

I should download the .50R BIOS and 510 EC from the MSI download center. Now, here's where I'm getting confused. I've stumbled upon this thread for GT60 2OD:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/733759-msi-gt60-2od-black-screen-after-bios-update-hellp-me.html

Is it as easy as clicking FLASHWIN.BAT, restarting, going to BIOS and clicking F9? If so, why is that not said on the download center page, and instead we have 2 complicated instructions in PDFs (how to update BIOS under EFI BIOS utility and under EFI Shell mode)? I do admit that I'm a newbie and I'm probably missing something here, but I'd hate to brick my poor laptop. Can anyone tell me what's the proper and most newbie-proof way to do it?

Also, what if it is indeed the right way and my computer freezes on shutdown after running FLASHWIN.BAT?

    Thx for the help!

Is anyone else having issues with SCM (System Control Manager) and/or KLM (Keyboard LED Manager) showing up in the alt-tab menu even when they are minimized to the notification area? I'm on Windows 8.1, but it was happening with Windows 8 too. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

    MSI Alt-tab Software Bug.png

KLM will go away if I open the application and then close it, but this is not the case for SCM.
I know other people are having this problem, I'm just not sure how common it is. MSI tech support recommended restoring the computer to its original state, but I figured I'd ask here first.

    Thanks!

EDIT: See this post for a fix to the KLM/SCM issue.

They're just treated as primary processes, you can see them active in the task manager even if you have them minimized. I don't think it's a bug.

Rather Odd question, but i couldnt help it. I put on turbo cooler everytime i play games like COD GHOSTS OR BLK OPS 2, have to admit keep my system under 60'c temp. is it possible that prolong use of turbo cooler would damage the fan or anything ???

Worst case you will eventually install a new fan in some years :) Even my almost 4 year old GX660R still has a working fan despite heavy turbo use.
