Changing boot mode from UEFI to Legacy is to bring support to legacy OS such as Windows 7 and others.
If you are simply switching the system drive, don't change that setting. The Recovery discs will only work in UEFI mode, but not Legacy.
Put the disc in the DVD drive, and press F11. You should see at least three options to pick from, including the DVD drive itself.

Yes, but if your box doesn't come with a bracket, then you can also insert a piece of rubber in between to hold the HDD in place.
    http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebo...48_MS-1761_2nd_HDD_Retention_Block_Rubber.jpg

You must secure the drives, otherwise you will suffer bad connectivity caused by movement.

Just be aware slim drives would need support below it without the bracket too.

Guys, please PM me if you need a bracket. I ordered two from MSI but didn't realize that there was one in the box (doh!). Shipping here to Canada was a lot for such a small- accessory but I'll be super fair with the shipping price. The brackets were $5 each. They should be here this week so just let me know if you need one.

    Hi.
I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but I read here that I should update the BIOS and EC, so my question is why of the updates should I get? BIOS 50k or 70k? EC 1507 or 2507?
Just in case, my PC has a clean copy of Win 8 (not the one from MSI) and I installed a SSD (not using RAID or anything).

    Thanks

    PS: What is EC?

You should choose the bios that conforms to your original os and if you are running ahci or raid.

Go to BIOS, and System Information under Main, you will be able to find your BIOS & EC version.
    EC = Embedded Controller.
And as Meaker said, you can only update based on the same version sequence, such as 5XX to 5XX, or 7XX to 7XX.
It is the same for the EC.

    Hey guys,

Im having a bit of an issue. Today I noticed that the synaptic touchpad program was missing from my computer. Now the touchpad itself is still working but the program that allows me to make changes to things to it is missing. It is still in my program files but not in my program files x86. It also is not opening up from the program files location. Can you please advise on what I should do about this? Also this may have something to do with me updating windows recently but after I updated it the program was working fine. I also cannot update the drivers for the touchpad either through msi or the synaptics website. I uninstalled the program completely, rebooted, and downloaded the driver from msi's website. However the driver when clicking setup.exe would give me an error message of Could not find OS specific setup program. Can you please advise what my next move should be?

Thanks so much hutsady this reinstalled the synaptics touchpad program but for some strange reason i still can not update to the drivers from the msi or synaptics webpages. It just keeps giving me the same error: Could not find OS specific setup program. But thanks again and if you know how to fix this problem please let me know.

Remove the driver, go to program files and find Synaptics folder.
Delete it and reinstall the driver again.

Hi Guys! I'm new if you can't tell. I recently purchased my gt70 after about 3 weeks of looking at laptops. I recently installed LoL, and i'm only getting 60 fps. I have the most recent driver installed and i'm using the nvidia gpu. What else could I be doing wrong?

Can anyone confirm whether the memory chips used on GT70-2OC-065us is FC04 or FC03 ?

I am overclocking the mem clocks now and just want to be on a safe side.

Hi guys, since i can't seem to find Search Thread option here, and I'm aware that it might be mentioned, i have to ask nevertheless :
Anyone having issues with Battlefield 4 x64 on GT70-2OC ? My wife got her notebook just a month or two ago and she is getting some serious stutter, similar to situations when hdd gets high usage and tasks get queued up.
The game is installed on SSD drive and drive itself has about 60GB of space left. We have tried with all possible combinations of Nvidia's drivers, latest ones included, and performance never changes. Even unparked cores which helped a bit for a while but the problem returned.

Only solution is to restart the notebook and the game gets smooth again for some time. Changing settings to low (all) to high (all) seems to barely even do anything at all , and FPS goes from 25 to 55 (at best).

Temps seem to be as usual from what i've read about this laptop, around 87C CPU and 90ish C on GPU.

RenderAheadLimit is set to 2, tried with both 1 and 3, not too much of difference but 2 seems to be the best so far.

How are your guys' experience with BF4 on this rig ?

Anyone getting some serious FPS ?

I've got a PC with r9 290 on it so its hard for me to do comparison with her notebook since my R9 is more in the line of 780GTX .

Have you tried updating the drivers directly from Nvidia Drivers | GeForce, there was a release that specifically made improvments to BF4. It was prior to this release but this one will include any of those changes.

Yep, tried it , together with several versions prior to last version (all from Nvidia page) and those "Game Ready" drivers. Also tried clean installs. Windows updated to 8.1 aswell. It's really weird, i mean, this notebook should be chewing through the game with high/med settings :/

    Hi,

Bought an MSI GT70 20C at the weekend and got a Corsair 16GB RAM upgrade coming tomorrow but have a couple of questions if anyone wouldn't mind taking the time to answer them for me please?

I purchased 1600Mhz RAM because I couldn't find any info to suggest it can take anything fast, is 1600Mhz the fastest possible? I can still replace it if needed
Should I remove the 8GB already installed as my Corsair RAM is supposedly better, or would leaving it in not slow down the Corsair RAM in anyway? I know they are both 1600Mhz but is that all that matters?
Lastly, if I need to remove the pre-installed RAM is it best to remove the keyboard or take all the motherboard out from below? And Does it matter which slots they are put it, or will any of the 4 slots be okay?

    Thanks for your help.

Check the settings under power options and make sure its set to high performance. Also she should be plugged into power while gaming and not just running off battery.

Hi there, I am wondering are there any other VJ's on this forum who are using MSI GT60 / 70 series laptops? I have just purchased a MSI GT60 2OC-212AU 15.6" GAMING NOTEBOOK - 3K EDITION and I am running Resolume software. I can output a full screen individual display output from my software via mini Display-Port fine, but I would love to play around further with Matrix output. So far I have been able to mirror output on the mini Display-Port and DVI, but HDMI output only allows me to use it as an activity monitor not a individual display output at full screen. Anyone have any tips for me. As far as I am aware the 3k edition should be able to output to matrix as the mini Display-Port, DVI and HDMI are mapped to the dGPU 'GeForce GTX 770', and the laptop monitopr is mapped to the GPU. Any thoughts?

Have you tried playing in Windowed mode rather than fullscreen? That fixed it for BF3 so might do for BF4 too - it also helps with other games too. You might need to find some sort of application to allow for a borderless windowed fullscreen mode if BF4 doesn't support it by default (BF3 didn't). which will make it take up the whole screen.

Tried both borderless and windowed, performance was actually worse in those modes. :/

Funny thing is, none of this is happening in other games, BF3 runs smooth like silk and so do HoN and GW2 (not the highest details but enough).

Hmm I read about some new BF4 patch that screwed up the Nvidia performance. It could be that. I only played the campaign about two months ago, but I was surprised how well it ran. I had it at 1080p, all Ultra except MSAA and Effects were on High. The only time when I got under 30 was during some heavy explosions (that's why I put effects on High, Ultra dips the fps even further), otherwise I was having 40+ consistently.

Yea campaign goes good and on ultra, but it seems to be more demanding in multiplayer. You're right about the patch, her fps dropped at least by 10 with china rising patch.

Ok... I formatted and redid my GT70... I put all the drivers, etc., back on the PC. I have a Toshiba Caviar Connect drive (USB 3.0), and when it is plugged in it constantly tries to access it and then usually gives me an error that one of the USB ports on this device has failed (happens on ANY USB I plug it into...). I can usually get onto the drive when I first plug it in or log on my PC... but then like I said... it flags in and out. Is this a USB problem? and if so... how do I fix it?

If yes, then try to download the latest USB 3.0 driver from Intel's support site below.

This SKU has 2x 2.5" standard SATA drive bays.
    1. Generate the factory recovery discs first using MSI Burn Recovery utility.
    2. Use Windows Easy Transfer (migration tool) to backup your data and setting onto an external USB HDD.
    3. Disconnect the current HDD and replace it with any SSD.
    4. Use recovery discs to restore OS onto the newly installed SSD and make sure it works (leave the HDD out still).
    5. Use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your data and setting from the external USB HDD.
    6. Install the HDD onto secondary drive bay.
Note: Calculate your boot time before and after. :)

    Greetings owners,
I'm a short while away from joining your group - but I have one inquiry as to my future laptop. I'm aware that the US, and Ireland (where I live) currently have different voltages set for their residential default service. Will this at all affect me, as in will I have to purchase a voltage converter or should I be okay to just plug and play?

    Thanks, Ants.

The AC adapter can accept 110 - 240V, so you can use it but you will have to change the physical connector using an adapter in order for the US adapter to work there.

Although no one helps me with the information I need on the laptop in question, I can confirm that the heat sink of the new models after the GT780 (the ones with the heat sink with copper extension that clips to the CPU), and fit perfectly well on this notebook, tomorrow I will tell you the temperatures at idle and when I play the cpu and gpu (gtx 770m).
another thing, many people say to put 1mm thermal pads on the four chips of the GPU and then the rest to 0.5mm but seeing the good thermal pads factory I saw that the Rams should be the x 0.5mm while all the rest go 1mm
the bridge goes one from 0.5 but I put that 1mm hoping to improve it

Ah, that's great news, thanks! I was hoping I could just slot my old adapter's cable into the new one, so seems I'll have no troubles with that. Looking forward to getting my machine, I'll be back whenever I receive it to give my two pennies on it!

Just have it changed for a new one, or try formating it. MSI always installs so much crap in that it makes the system go slow. I wouldn't go for that much trouble not being sure when you can just send it back and have it changed no question asked.

Now I'm wondering if I throw a module of this memory:

    Amazon.com: Kingston Technology 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L (PC3-12800) 1.35V Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM Intel Laptop Memory KVR16LS11/8: Computers & Accessories

into my 12gb would it be compatible with the 8+4gb config? (meaning would I be able to get by with 20gb of memory without a problem?

I assume you mean "back" light, which the GT60 models do have.

It is a standard feature on GT60 for having a full backlight keyboard.
Have you installed the latest version of KLM software to control it?
    KLM 1.0.1305.3101

Yes it does, it comes with a 770M MXM card, and you can upgrade it to 780M or other higher modules.
The only issue would be the compatibility of heatsink since the placement of choke and VRAM can vary from card to card.
