All GPUs are different :) Take your time and raise your core and memory little by little and monitor your temps and stability during gaming to avoid crashes/artifacts etc. 770M should have a nice headroom for overclocking so you can probably reach high enough for super smooth performance :D

You would be hard pressed to damage it at stock volts.

    Hey guys,

So we're probably going to be putting some Samsung Evo 250gb SSD's in this week.

I've only ever done fresh installation with SSD's, so I'm a bit lost with what I would do with installation, especially the OS.

What would be the best way to a fresh install. I don't have win8 on disk or anything, so I'm wondering how I'll approach it.
I don't want to just copy everything over because there are some bum drivers. A fresh install would be great for fresh drivers.

If your system shipped with windows 8 then the key is embedded in the bios.

So would I just the SSD in and load as normal? I thought you'd need a disk, and then go from there. I've never had embedded keys. So how does it work?

Pretty sure I've read every post in this thread, maybe I missed it. Anyone have any luck with overclocking?

I can't wait until my pc gets here, never had a pc even close to this nice. I'm excited like a little kid.

You can overclock the CPU by 200mhz pretty easily with Intel XTU. The 770m can also be OC'd up to 135mhz using MSI Afterburner, or more if you find an unlocked VBIOS.

Thank you, I'm not really interested in pushing it too far. Just trying to figure out ways to push it while in the return period. Basically want to make sure I'm getting every penny's worth of my $1400.

I'm assuming that oc puts it 10-15% behind the 780?

So you can OC an i7 4700MQ with XTU by 200mhz, no overvolt necessary?

Yes, exactly what it will do is sample dependant. I've seen as low as -100mv and it might be worth using 34/34/34/34 as this will reduce the voltage needed.

Runs much better than I expected, given the beta. I'm running on Medium 1080p and get 50+fps usually. High runs pretty well too but there are dips into the low 40s sometimes.

Hey guys, ive got a question: If I formatted my laptop and installed windows 7, does matrix display still work? If so, another question - I want to run 2 external monitors off my GT70 and also the laptop screen itself, will nvidia span work? will both the external monitors run from the nvidia card? if i switch off the laptop screen and connect only two external monitors - will both run on the nvidia card? at the moment I have the laptop screen and just one external monitor (in this case the laptop screen is being powered by the intel card <- unable to switch it to the nvidia card). Need the information before buying another monitor

OH LAWD, the people at xoticpc ears must have been burning, my pc is expected to ship today (went to phase 7).
    [IMG]ra

Edit: Tracking info just updated, turns out it was shipped yesterday morning and expected delivery is Friday, FANTASTIC. Assuming everything shows up in working order, looking forward to doing a review and feeback post for xoticpc. They've been great this entire process, (two cancelled orders over my own impulse buy and worries over another unit).

Thanks for the response Meaker, from the best of my knowledge, it was saying I needed to restart my computer for updates/disable UAC. I recreated the exact response by enabling UAC, unless it's pure coincidence, it's running steady white now.

Well, after 3 hours of blacklist, I never dropped below 42 fps(avgd. about 49fps) during actual gameplay with EVERYTHING cranked up. Also never broke 52 celsius!

I'd say that's pretty damd good. I had my fps going on the screen, then attempted to make a video with afterburner, lost my fps and couldn't make a video... double fail.

Edit: That's 20fps over what notebook check reported.

    Metro last light

    Stock everything.

Avg fps on high- 37.. never dropped below 34, ignore the 2nd run in pic, as I exited out at the beginning.
avg fps on very high- 31 (with 2-3 HEAVY drops to 19ish)

    Edit:

Sleeping dogs on max- hovers 25-30fps, very playable, 45-50 on high with zero graphic reduction that I can tell ( maybe some minute facial features during cut scenes)
saints row IV on max- 55fps

So far every game has been 10-20fps over the notebookcheck benchmarks and I couldn't me more pleased with this beast.

    Edit Edit:
Took the core and memory clock to 100mhz, ran the metro LL benchmark again(not pictured). The avg frame rate stayed the same (around 31fps), but never dropped below 24fps, even when the big breach happens. I'm trying to upload a video to youtube of sleeping dogs right now, I've never done it before so I'm having a bit of a time. Also, I've been gaming/benchmarking pretty much non-stop today, I've yet to break 65 degrees Celsius on the gpu and the CPU has stayed under 50.

Guess I got a decent factory paste job :).

I "upgraded" to Win 8.1 the other day, and my power button is always orange even when nothing is using the nVidia card. When I first turn it on it's white but as soon as Windows starts it's orange - anyone else had this?
I'm still on the BIOS and EC firmware that came with it, if that could be the problem. I upgraded all my drivers, which didn't help.

Does the light stays in orange fully without changing back to white?
Have you updated both Intel and nVidia drivers to Win8.1 versions to reflect the OS change?

I had updated the Intel drivers, but overlooked about the nVidia ones - doing that has fixed it up, Thanks :)

Going to buy this laptop probably next week and one thing I was thinking of doing was getting another 8gb stick of RAM for it. I've been hearing conflicting things though, some say as it's haswell it only takes 1.3v RAM while others are saying 1.5v is fine.. can anyone with experience shed any light into this? Also, just to confirm, to access the RAM slot, doesn't require me to take the whole thing apart? Pretty sure I read it has a backpanel that comes off for easy access to things like this.

It is stated by Intel in the spec to use DDR3L, which is low voltage at 1.35V.
    ARK | Intel® Core

Using standard DDR3 may run into issue where the memory ICs are not getting sufficient voltage therefore causing stability issues.

There are two memory slots underneath the keyboard, and two on the bottom side.
The system supports a total of 32GB (8GB per slot).

Mobile haswell is fixed at 1.35v, desktop haswell can run either 1.35v or 1.5v.

What Meaker and Gentch told you is perfectly correct. I mistakenly ordered 1.5v Ram and I got issues when running games not simple windows. So I returned them and ordered 16 gb of 1.35v DDR3L and since two weeks it's running like a charm. Two memory banks are accessible under the keyboard and two under the back panel. Follow the disassembly guide you find on the web googleing. For me it was really easy but I normally build my own rigs. I still must say thanks to all the people who put information on the Internet allowing me to build and enhance my computers and electronic gear.
    Cheers

Quick question, my HDD is setup as a c: and d: drive, (500gig each). Can I just start installing/transferring stuff to the D: Partition and when I upgrade to SSD, just wipe the C:drive out and keep the D:?

Might seem like a simple enough question to most, I've never installed one on a fully operational machine though.

I never knew about this, and probably wouldn't know any better if it hadn't been brought up. I have been running a pair of 1.5v Corsair SODIMMs and have never ran into stability issue.

My apologies if this isn't the right place to post this, but I have a GT70 2OC-065US, and I keep getting BSOD's. I've done all the windows updates besides 8.1, because I intend to put an SSD in asap, but that and updating drives seems to have fixed nothing. I also uninstalled bluestack, as I was getting errors in windows event viewer from it. Does anyone have any ideas of how to make this system more stable until I can install win7? The errors seem to be all over the place, from pagefault in non-paged area to memory management to irq not equal or less. The basic windows memory test also came back clean, as well as the latest chkdsk /f /r and sfc /scannow.
