GT70 2OC, gave Windows 8 another try and absolutely hated it (even w/ a Start button and booting right to desktop, etc.)

Looking to do a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate x64. Problem is, not sure what BIOS setting to use. When I choose EUFI or UEFI with CSM, I cannot boot from my install DVD in my built in optical drive. If I choose LEGACY, it boots. Is this normal?

I'm installing to a Seagate 750GB hard drive. Will be swapping that out for a 500GB SSD in the near future.

I have a question. I purchased a GT70-2OC 065US basically stock with the 1TB HDD. I now want to purchase a 256GB or so SSD and turn the most I can into a cache...I think it's 65GB and the rest I want to move my OS and programs (which are all on the same partition right now) onto the rest of the drive. My question is what company should I buy and how do I do it? I have the notion that I need to take off the back cover and move the current HD into the secondary bay and put the new SSD in the primary bay for the faster speeds of the SATAIII. Is there an order I need to do things? Do I need to set the drive up first somehow before I do all this? Will my computer let me boot to the secondary drive to setup the new SSD into a cache and then move the OS/Program partition over? Is there a program I need to buy to allow me to do this? I am correct in saying the stock GT70-2OC 065US has Two 2.5 HDD drive bays and not a Msata right? Please help me in this procress before I go in blind!! Thanks!

I can't find my 5ghz wifi under windows network so I am thinking about updating my killer wireless network driver. I saw that Msi's website has an older version of the driver than the official killer website. I am going to try to update using Killer's driver but it says that I need to uninstall my previous Killer Network Suite which I cant find. Can someone help me through the process and provide clear instructions?
    Thanks in advance.

Finally I have in my hands the GT60 2OC that I purchased from GentechPC, and I love it. I changed the processor to a 4900MQ (as I use MatLab, CAD and other CPU-intensive apps), the wireless card to the 7260ac from Intel and got the Free 16GB of memory promotion they were having at the time. Overall, the hinge feels very solid, it's smaller than I expected (although the power brick is bigger than what I was expecting...) and it packs a punch.

However, I do have some concerns:

1- My keyboard shows some amount of flex. I can see the glossy frame bouncing a little when I type, I was definitely not expecting this. It seems to have just a bit less flex than my old VAIO, which felt like I was typing on cotton candy. It also seems to affect the left side of my keyboard more. Does anyone also have this?

2- My touch panel feel quite flimsy/squishy on the left side. The right side of it (airplane, screen off and that G thing) feel solid. If I start pressing down on the glossy part below the touch panel, I can see it moving when doing so on the left-hand side, but the right side feels solid. Again, anyone with the same issue? Should I be worried?

3- GentechPC seemed to have mixed two different RAM brands in my laptop, don't know for what reason. According to CPU-Z, Slot #2 has an A-Data Technology running @ 1.28V and Slot #4 is manufactured by STT (never heard of this brand) running @ 1.50V. What's up with this? CPU-Z shows they are running in Dual mode, should I be concerned about this difference?

4- I'm struggling to get it to match my brother's Mythlogic Chaos 1313 with a 4800MQ and the GTX 765M. He gets a slightly better score than I do in 3dmark 11 (I get high 5100s, he gets mid 5200s) and also performs better in Counter-Strike: GO. The weirdest thing of all is when I run the 3dMark 11 benchmark, it shows the GPU correctly as the NVIDIA 770m, but it reports a memory size of 1024MB which is very wrong. GPU-Z and the NVIDIA Control Panel report the correct 3072MB, so I'm wondering if there's any configuration in the BIOS/Driver/OS that would make an application be limited to use a certain amount of video memory. If so, this could be the issue with my laptop.

Thanks in advance for your support guys.

    1) My keyboard also flexes a bit too - it's a lot less flex than my Dell Inspiron, but I too was expecting there to none.

    2) Same for me too, solid on the right but the left not so much.

    3) Mixing RAM brands doesn't really matter too much I think - it's mostly about the timings.

    4) Maybe try getting the latest beta drivers? (The latest non-beta drivers don't work with these new cards)

I am also wondering the same thing except I bought a msi gt70 2oc-059us. I know I am getting a samsung 840 evo 480gb ssd for OS and games. But before I make the purchase I'd like to know if I am able to, and have to move what I have on hdd to ssd via eSATA. I am getting different file moving instructions from five different sources and am getting confused whem it comes to this whole win8 move.

EDIT: my phone sucks and quoted the wrong post. Now its corrected....

    GT70-2OC, Windows 7.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with connecting an external monitor. I picked up an external monitor and when it's connected through the regular (VGA) port the monitor flickers slightly ONLY when I have something running on either screen such as a game or even a full screen video. When it's just the desktop, or even a regular website like this forum - no flickering. But as soon as I start a game like Warcraft, it flickers. If I minimize everything, no flicker.

Brand new monitor. I also have a desktop, and when connecting that same monitor to the desktop, it works perfect, no flicker no matter what I do. The monitor doesnt have HDMI connection. I can't return the monitor, because if they test it on anything it will work perfect.

The laptop screen itself never flickers.

I've checked all the connections a million times.

Using the HDMI to my TV, no problems at all, no flicker.

It "seems" like it just doesn't have enough power to run the 2nd monitor with anything that uses graphics or something.

I'm a total newb, so any info would be appreciated! :)

EDIT: I updated my driver tonight to the latest beta driver on the NVIDIA website, same issue.

Just got 3dmark 11 now. Mine correctly says 3GB, so I'm not sure why yours only says 1GB. I got a score of 5189 for the performance test. Notebookcheck says that the median score for the 770M is 5126.5, while the 765M has a median of 4295 so it seems strange that your brother gets mid 5200s.

Overclocking my card +110/+400 gave a score of 5807 (And enabling the Game Eco mode actually lowered the score)

turns out he had that Lucid Virtu MVP tweak enabled. It did seem to improve things in both 3dMark 11 and CS:GO. After uninstalling, his numbers were within the expected numbers presented at Notebookcheck. What is your Core clock and Memory clock?

P.S.: this is my benchmark NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4900MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4

Never heard of that, pretty interesting it had quite an effect.
With the overclock I have it at 816Mhz for the Core, and 2404Mhz for the Memory. With the boost, the Core clock gets up to 967Mhz.

Here's my stock speeds one: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1763

Yes but the price of my GT60 is twice the price of 90% of HP laptop in the market
    Higher price paid, higher expectations

But like I said before, it's just a detail regarding the whole satisfaction level I have with this laptop

can u guys gimme some detail on your CPU temp? Idle and full load? Especially for GT60. I got like 45~50 degree when surfing and watching videos on utube. Around 80 when gaming with turbo cooler off (MoH, BF3, GTA4, ...). The room temp is about 25 degree. IC Diamonds pasted already. Nothing to worry about the GPU temp but a little bit about the CPU. It's quite high for me, much higher in compare with asus g75 ivy bridge. I dont know it's bcuz of the Haswell or bcuz of the MSI ?

42c-45c mostly on the cpu while browsing. CPU temps max at 78c while gaming, crysis 3 to be precise. 80c is also good. But 85c and higher, I'd look to see if something is wrong. But its still within the safe zone.

Hello everyone! New owner of a GT70 here and everything's going well with it so far :D. However, Windows experience index gives a score of 5.0 for desktop graphics performance, although in the notebookcheck review of 2oc-065US it gets 7.1, which makes more sense. I don't really care about this score since it doesn't reflect much, but is anyone else getting weird scores, too?

I get 5.0 for desktop graphics performance. Didnt bother too much with the WEI scores, as my GT60 was performing as it should where it mattered. In games, fps is around where it should be. I think thats the iGPU thats showing in the WEI.

I thought it could be the integrated gpu the one taken into consideration there.
5.9 is the max for HDD's, to get a higher score you need SSD.

Hey guys I have a big problem.

The Fedex guy just delivered my new MSI gt70 20c - 065us laptop and I was stunned when I opened it, beautifully crafted and whatnot.. that is until i pressed the power button. It would repeatedly shutdown within 1-3 seconds of pressing power button. After a dozen minutes i got through the seting up of windows 8. So what is wrong with computer. When i shutdown pc and I try to repower it, i run into the same powering up issues where the computer will shut down within seconds of pressing power.

I will also note this, that after removing the slow 1tb hdd, i replaced it with a 840 series ssd and installed windows 7 ultimate. But I am still running into the same issues here.

Sounds like the 4 screws on the video card heatsink maybe loose, it shuts off to prevent overheat to the video card. so check to see if all 4 screws are tight.

If you look in to the score details, you'll probably find scores mostly in the 7's for CPU, GPU, etc. The windows experience score is not an average, but the lowest of all the scores. I bet the 5.0 is from the 5400rpm hard drive. To get the most out of this computer, it would be worth installing an SSD. Fortunately, there is room to add a second drive and the installation is easy.

Uhm, I specifically mentioned "5.0 for desktop graphics performance" and explained to another user the HDD max score thing. I'm not blind and my HDD score is obviously 5.9. Aban got the same issue and it seems to be the iGPU messing around.

    Ordered my GT70 20C-US65
Super excited! Have to wait until Monday!

Just wanted to ask I don't remember if i saw it in all 94 pages (OK I admit I skipped around 25)... is there any warranty voiding sticker to remove or anything when I put in my own SSD?
I mean.. does it ACTUALLY void the warranty with MSI?

    Thanks!!

    Hi all,

I've just ordered my GT60 2OC, and I've been wondering about a few things:

    1) do we have any serious issues under Windows 7?

    2) can I skip installing the Intel processor driver for the integrated VGA or is it mandatory with Win7?

    3) can I use default Win7 drivers for LAN and WLAN or is the Killer driver absolutely needed?

    4) if anyone has switched from the GX660R, are the speaker any better or are they the same?

    Thanks.

1: Not at all, MSI have all drivers support Windows 7 and they have just recently released new SKUs with Windows 7 pre-installed.

2: No you can't. since HDMI are hard-wired to Intel HD Graphics so it's required prior installing nVidia drivers.

3: Killer drivers are required, the native Win7 drivers won't work.

    4: They are the same.

Thank for the reply, it's clearer now.

    Too bad, I consider a 300MB "driver" bloatware :)

If anyone here dual boots with linux, can you please post the output of lspci -n ? Still debating between the Sager 8235 or a GT60. Basically picking to see which has the easier linux support. (need it for work)

Reporting : I've just installed a WD Blue 1TB in my ODD bay. Currently running a Samsung 840 SSD, a OCZ Vertex 4 SSD, WD Blue 1TB, three drives altogether. Running flawlessly. I'm definitely enjoying the data space.

So, to anyone wondering, the MSi GT60/70 can run three drives simultaneously if you remove the DVD writer that comes by default.

I know many of you are aware of this, but just reporting, XD

welp... I built an LGA2011/X79 with an Ivy Bridge-E and mini tower.

top notch hardware right down to the case, 16Gb 2133 memory, psu, mobo, ssd, processor, ect and I weighed in at under $2 grand with a mediocre GTX650ti (for now) gpu.

the read was good from the owners here... I'll just use my old junky Dell for portability :)

Hello, I just bought an GT60-2OC-22US and I wonder if I can upgrade an SSD on this machine. I have an SSD from previous laptop, Crucial M4. If yes how do I do it without voiding warranty. There is a sticker on the back which says warranty is voided If opened. Any advice?
