Very true. DDR3 latency is higher than DDR2 and negates the speed advantage it has on DDR2. Also DDR3 has different pin layout (204-pin vs 200-pin for DDR2).

 

1) ahh bugger so that means the rebate is finished at newegg too? I thought the rebate was extended til the end of june (or perhaps that was with the GX/GT series?)

3) has anyone else out there purchased a 9-cell battery or even an extra 6-cell battery?
4) ahh crap a whole 0.10lbs more and i have to pay an extra $15.45USD for USPS priority mail. i originally based the shipping weight on the EX630 which is 10.2lbs according to amazon (they don't have the EX625)

ive had a talk with a representative. they "tell" me that their inventory is constantly updated or called "real-time" inventory.

also, i live in the us and the warranty might be different in other countries. email them to be sure. they take about 1 business day to respond.

about the weight... ask someone else, because its odd it weights 12.10lbs b/c the laptop is 5.9lbs... wheres all the extra weight come from?

 

The shipping weight on my tracking shows 12.00 lbs from Newegg. I haven't received it yet, so I don't know if that's different from the actual shipping weight.

 

lol so what does that mean? is there actually any indication as to whether or not there is stock? as someone else noted, heaps of the online shops are now sold out of the EX625. Check out what ExcaliberPC told me "Thank you very much for your time. This item is longer available." *i replied, saying that it was a relatively new model* and they said "we can no longer get this model as of this time. You may however set up stock notifier in case we can get our hands on some but the chance is very slim." lol?

yeah i emailed MSI Australia and they said they will cover it only for one year, even if I extend the USA/Canadian warranty to 3 years

I tried ubuntu 64-bit briefly. My sound wasn't working and I had to check ubuntu forums to see how to get it to work. Other than that everything else seemed to work ok. I'm glad I got this laptop when I had the chance.

 

wow.. everyone buying this item, watch out for the poorly placed warranty sticker. my warranty sticker has been slit, but it was in the original msi packaging with its original seal. turns out when i flipped my computer over, i saw the slit! i haven't turned on the computer, however, im gonna contact msi about this. i believe i read someone said its ok as long as you dont do anything modifications the computer. regardless, thats really a poor place to put the warranty sticker on the OUTSIDE of the laptop. also, the place i bought it from is out of stock so...

I got my laptop yesterday and installed windows 7 x64 without a hitch.

Ran 3dmark06 and got ~7250 with latest drivers from ATI. I had to set PowerMixer (or whatever it's called) in the CC panel from maximum battery life to maximum performance, otherwise it ran sluggish.

I noticed that the Eco, Media buttons don't light up when I press them. F1 (customizable button on far right) lights up but I'm not sure how to set that up yet. Tried to test microphone in Steam but that didn't seem to work. I'll have to look into these issues when I get home from work.

 

Does anyone expect this laptop to go on sale for newegg.ca or newegg.com? Or should i get it now. I'm scared on one hand that it might be discontinued. On the other hand i'm scared it might go on sale.

One thing you HAVE to do is install the vista audio drivers. that will get your webcam-microphone to work... otherwise windows won't find it.

The rest of the stuff, i didn't care about (but can also be fixed by installing vista drivers).

 

Eco, Cinema Pro & P1 buttons will not work unless you install system control manager. I'm using Windows 7 x64 also and scm will work on it.

 

Right. And after that, you just need the infrared driver and you pretty much got everything working again.

 

i have the computer, i am using vista 32bit, where is the webcam? i know there is a touch button but when i click it all that happens is that it lights up and there is no picture. where do i go to get the picture?

I called MSI earlier this week, they said as long as there's no obvious physical damage to the laptop, the warranty is still good. My sticker was cracked down the middle when i was just moving the laptop. It's so poorly placed and scared me when it cracked. So i called and they assured me that the laptop warranty is NOT void just because the sticker is messed up. So no worries there. And if you're in the USA, the warranty is now extended to 3 years. SO YAY.

 

I installed SCM and got those working. I tried to install dolby control center from the CD but it wouldn't install properly so i downloaded the audio drivers from www.msimobile.com and mic works now.

 

I didn't try Dolby Control Center and probably won't because I don't feel I have a need for it. Once I had SCM working fine with Cinema Pro mode, I just forgot about Dolby Control Center.

 

chaotic adult, would i realistically be able to play prototype or starcraft 2 on this lappy?

 

I'm not sure. I haven't tried gaming on my laptop yet especially since I installed three different builds of Windows 7 since I have had my laptop. I'm going to install Oblivion soon to see how it plays, then maybe you can compare to the games you mentioned. I also heard that Oblivion plays at ultra-high settings as well. Anyone else tested these games mentioned on this notebook?

 

you can play anything and everything on it. Pretty much all games I've put in run on high settings.

 

well for people who are wondering. i have played crysis on it, and it runs... suprisingly well. also installed windows 7 64bit

 

I played team fortress 2 for a bit at high settings 4xAA, 16xAF without any lag. It looks amazing too. Going to test WoW and Sims 3 later, although I doubt they'll perform any different.

This may be a newb question, but does anyone know how to disable the touchpad? I use a mouse with my laptop all the time so it's kind of annoying brushing my finger across the touchpad.

the computer does expell a lot of heat during gameplay i am very afraid of any damages that could arise, can anyone recomment a good fan or cooling accessory? i usually stick a small dictionary underneath the laptop to raise my laptop from the table, hoping more air flows in. is this a bad idea? also, is there a software to check the temperature of the gpu cpu or computer?

 

I installed prototype on it last night and it runs fairly well. Not everything is maxed out but capable enough.

 

cool thanks do you mind particularly telling me the setting in which the game ran smooth? What rez, medium/high graphics? etc etc.

Edit: 1 n a half days later and the stock of neweggs 52 drops to a mere 20. Wow. if this product shows no sign of restocking after <10 are left, i'm snagging one for myself.

 

I use PCWizard (google it) to check temps. Covers the two processor temps, overall cpu temp and hard drive temp but no graphics temp. Frankly I've played oblivion, fallout3, battlefront II, GalCivII and TF2 and have not experienced any significant heat issues. The cpus typically run constant at around 45-50 degrees clesius. I am very pleased with the temps, especially in comparison to my other two laptops.

 

Has anyone installed Windows XP on this laptop? If so, were there any issues encountered? I'm thinking of getting another one for my wife, but she needs WindowsXP on it for work related apps.

 

1280x720 res, for some reason no option for 1366, no AA, and medium graphics details. Unless I missed it, it doesn't really detail what medium graphics is.
I really haven't played too much of it so far, but i'm impressed considering the amount of action thats going on screen at one time with no hiccups.

I also haven't really tried to turn it up, I might do that when i get a chance to play it again. Just left it on default settings.

 

where do u find the stock level??

 

you can find out the stock by typing in 100 units. If there isn't a sufficient quantity. It will be reflected when you update the cart. Its now down to 14 units. I have a feeling the EX625 won't be restocking now.

i just might, my sister justified that spending close to 2k for a asus g51 is not worth it. All im waiting for now is for yrlever to see if prototype can run on high settings. If it can, i'm probably going to get this laptop. It's a shame that i'll be missing out on the better spec'd g51 and the sager 8662. But they are a little more pricey. I guess im missiong out on windows 7 too >_>
