I have a MSI625-227US. I jumped on this website to post that the touch sensor has failed on the lap top, and I have lost all funtions associated with the tuch sensor, WLAN,Bluetooth,l etc.

I've looked into that last week and it seems 1366x768 is the only 16'' resolution available right now.

EDIT: Just looked again, I found a 1920.1080 one

Great news as I was thinking about upgrading my lcd screen eventually to one with a higher resolution. Who is the 1920x1080 screen manufactured by?

thanks you are so helpful! interesting that they include an antenna input but not the tuner.. do u know if that particular part is really supported by the EX625 (because it's not listed)? i wonder if the hybrid tuner includes FM radio as well.. but generally hybrid means just analog tv.. also I wonder if this tuner will be able to receive Australian channels

It should work based on what I found. I opened up the ex625 and the mini-pci-e is big enough to fit the tv tuner I linked to. Also I checked a website for customizing a ms-1674 barebone and it has the option to include the tv tuner, which seems very similar to the part i posted a link to. If i decide to get it myself, I will definitely let you know if it works.

thanks for that.. i've been contacting MSI Australia's tech support.. they said that if you put the mini-pci-e tuner yourself it voids the warranty.. ?

also, a few other queries.. the specs say that it has a IEEE1394 (firewire) port.. but nowhere on the pictures do i see this? I guess it's a typo? also.. does the line out double as a S/P-DIF out?

oh and another thing thats kinda annoying is that the card reader doesn't support xD (my stupid Fuji F30 camera is still xD only)..

one more, is the memory on the 4670 GDDR3?

firewire/line out: there is no firewire port on the laptop. for what i see S/P-DIF out = line out.
card reader: I agree, it should have been more formats supported.
    GDDR3 = yes

I've just noticed something that's been scaring me a bit.

The "void warranty" sticker on the bottom of my laptop looks to be tampered with already...

It looks like it's been "cut" already. I don't want to mess with it because i'm worried that maybe it's made that way to make it easy to rip (maybe it is still together??)

Does anyone else have a "cut" sticker?

lol @ MSI tech support re: installing the mini pci-e tv tuner myself:

the wire he's talking about is the one that's connected to the antenna input.

As long as you don't damage the components in the notebook you will be fine. The warranty sticker doesn't matter as someone verified from MSI that the white warranty sticker is there to make sure customers get quality hardware or something like that. So its not worries with the tv tuner.

    Hi

Has anyone tried installing a TV Tuner to a MSI EX625?
Which type of tuner would be good? and where can you buy connectors for the antenna port?
Can some one upload pictures of the installation?

So if I bought from newegg, and the warranty sticker is broken... does that mean newegg replaced out my good part for crap parts?

Why would they have possibly tampered with it?

That means it was probably refurbished. New MSI notebooks should have the white warranty sticker intact. Newegg sells both new and open box (could be a refurb) notebooks

Yep, in addition to that, the heatsink isn't stout enough to take a quad core; the P7350 is already running at mid 70's C full load in it.

Do you think that the P8600 would go well with the Video Card? I've read in a couple of places that the processor that came with the laptop would be the bottleneck .

    Hi guys, new member here.

I should be getting this laptop within a few days from newegg.

I was wondering whether anyone swapped out the 5400 rpm HDD for a 7200, and if so, if there was a significant performance gain in gaming/windows in general.

Also, I read that people had problems with the microphone, sound, and some buttons in Windows 7 x64. Has anyone been able to get the microphone working? Does the sound through the laptop work properly?

I tested the HD 4670 with the P7350 and a SP9400 (2.4Ghz/6MB L2 Cache, basically a P8600 with 6MB L2 Cache), and the results were not much different. I got ~6600 points in 3DMark06 with the SP9400, opposed to the P7350's 6100 points. Devil May Cry 4 shows a framerate difference of 2-3 FPS across the board at 1680x1050, High details. The game was already running at 45+ FPS, so the slight difference in the P7350's frame rate drop is virtually undetectable during the benchmark run.

Yes I have seen the heatsink (pictures and I have opened up ex625) and if it supported quad core in bios, I was going to do a mod to help keep it cool. Thanks for the additional info.

Oh nice. Did you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get everything working?

So a faster HDD won't affect gaming performance much at all?

No jumping through hoops. Windows 7 picked up most of my hardware and provided drivers either built-in or windows update (even the fingerprint scanner). The only driver it won't pick up is for the IR receiver which you can use the driver from the driver disk.

It will affect gaming performance a bit (slightly faster loading of data) but a ssd will be better than getting 7200rpm especially since you are using Windows 7 which has good support for ssds.

hey guys, i just ordered this laptop. just had a few questions.
    bought in usa.

    1) the warranty sticker on the back, does it void your warranty if you open it? ( http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-EX625-Notebook.16060.0.html says the white seal is a guarentee seal and will not void warranty if you open it)
    2) is there anyway you can change the hard drive or cpu or ram w/o voiding the warranty?
    3) according to http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/PM45/PM45-overview.htm , this computer should be ddr3 1066 compatible. can anyone confirm this is true?

    thank you!

I can't speak definitively about the warranty but I do know that the EX625 does not support DDR3 regardless that the chipset supports DDR3. Trust me though, there is little to no advantage to DDR3 1066.

hey guys a few other questions for those that have bought one

    1) how does one get the rebate?
    2) is it only 1 year warranty? there are some posts that say it's 3 years.. also, does MSI do international warranty? the standard MSI notebook warranty here in Australia is 2 years
    3) does anybody have a link to a 9-cell battery option @ newegg?
    4) can anybody tell me the net weight (so everything that was sent) of the box (should be written on the box somewhere) that was shipped to them from newegg?

i'm planning to purchase this at newegg via www.priceusa.com.au.. the only thing that's holding me back is the issue about warranty..

    thanks so much

    1) if you purchased between 6/1 - 6/10, or in may you can read the pdf of one of these: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/rebates/default.aspx?SKU=5574369 follow the instructions.
    2) this is what they told me... but if you get a better answer, please post it!

I asked: Hi my question is, I purchased the product online. The promotion goes till the 10th of this month. If I receive the product on the 10th or 11th, am I still eligible for the rebate even though I purchased it before that? And if I purchased my notebook from an online retailer, do I get a 1 or 3 year warranty(your site says 3 years)? Thank you for your time.
    They said:
    Hello Customer:

As long as the purchase date is during the promotional period, you are fine.
Yes, as long as you purchased your notebook after May 1st, 2009, you qualify for the 3 years manufacturer warranty if you register for your product online at our website after you receive it.

Refer to http://www.msimobile.com/warranty/limited_notebooks.aspx for more information.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    MSI Rebate
    3) dunno
    4) 12.10lbs (UPS Shipment) Note: bought from mwave.com, but the net shipping weights should be the same.

also, anyone noticing that units of ex625 are running out. even msi.com is out of stock... and has been for a little bit.

Windows 7 64-bit detects most of the hardware automatically and provides drivers. Also you can also get the rest of the drivers from windows update. The only driver you will need from the driver disk is IR receiver as Windows 7 nor windows updatge does not have a built-in driver for it. The driver disk has drivers for Vista 64-bit.
