It might not be a refurb. I got mines like this, it was brand new just someone returned it and it was not used at all.

I definitely liked saving almost $200. Although I did notice mines was $10 cheaper than the open box Newegg has right now.

$10 cheaper, awesome. Good performing laptop for minimal price. Honestly they probably took the EX625 out cause they were losing profit on these laptops xD

Damn, I was just about to buy it and bam! Out of stock.
I'm heartbroken, I really had my eyes set on this affordable beauty.

So, two questions. Do you think they're about to launch an improved version of it? And what would be the next best alternative? EX620 seems close to it...

yes I have, this is what's on the disc:

vista drivers: chipset, card reader, CIR, FingerPrint, IMSM, LAN, modem, audi, bluetooth, TV tuner, VGA, Webcam, WLAN

xp drivers: Card Reader, IMSM, LAN, VGA, WLAN

haven't tried instaling xp yet because I haven't found chipset drivers for it on the disc. Are these drivers all I would need for xp?

This product is supposedly EOL. You can try looking on MSI site for regional retailers that might still have some in stock.

Its fine for me. I still have the screen cover on that came with the laptop. Although its not a screen protector, I definitely going to get one. I'm a movie buff and I also being played lots of Oblivion so I would hate to see my screen scratched. I'm the same way with my phones as well :)

good, i really didn't know if i wanted to apply a screen protector to the touchpad or not. Its a little rough so i figured i wanted to smooth it out a little.

Btw, for the actual screen, where can you find a screen protector that big?

To me it was rough in the beginning, but as I used it, I either got used to it or it got smoother. Seems like it got smoother to me. I'm not sure where to get a screen protector for lcd screen, probably online somewhere.

anyone having any problems with their laptops? it seems msi is pretty good quality. but how about those people that have had an msi laptop for over a month or something, any problems?

btw, ive taked to the msi tech service and they told me, the slit is broken is OK. THERE IS A SCREW BEHIND THE STICKER(run your finger over the sticker, you should feel a slight dibit) , if you've tampered with that screw, then u r screwed. also they inspect the unit before servicing it to see if any foreign components or modifications were made. if nothing has been replaced or modified by you, then your ok. plus its a 3 year warranty!

Your not screwed aeubz, your even allowed to replace stock cooling paste in these, your screwed if you damage components via static or shorting out because of a careless thermal replacement job, but other then that, MSI offers one of the best warrenties around. Also if you replace components, they class the component as void rather then the machine :)

The finnish is strange with MSI machines, the matt effect does wear off but the texture doesnt, so in the end you have a really nice looking mousepad (when looking at it from the side) and a really shiny mouse pad when looking from above :)

Does anyone know if you can replace the screen in this laptop? I saw someone talking about getting a higher resolution which would be great but I wanted to know if they actually managed to do it.

Also has anyone else noticed that the screen at full brightness is washed out? I find that the colors are not very deep. My monitor I use for my desktop is much better. I am not sure if its something I am doing or if I have a defective product. Its just everything looks very much like there is a coating of white on it.

im sure someone has a link to a 1920x1200 15.6 acer screen somewhere, although i'm not sure which site it was.

Edit: the contrast is about 160 for the laptop monitor and probably at least 600:1 for your desktop monitor :D. Its a pretty big diff but its allll good :D

Would that screen work for the MSI? I don't want to buy it before I know. Also since its a higher resolution would that cause problems? Anyone replace a laptop screen before? I wonder how difficult it is.

Also, would anyone have a clue about this problem?

Why wouldn't it? If you never replaced a laptop screen before then don't do it. I have and its easy to me. Would high resolution be a problem, the graphics card can support it, but what could be the problem is the inverter. Dell Studio XPS 16' has basically the same specs as this laptop and can have 1366x768 or 1900x1080 so again why would resolution be a problem. I suggest you wait until someone successfully does it and can give your instructions because you are unsure about doing it plus you seem like you haven't done it before.

I understand what you mean. I have plenty of computer experience but its one of the only things I have never done. I am pretty sure I can do it by myself but I was just wondering before I put out $200 on a new screen that it is compatible. I don't think that website accepts returns. That is all I wanted to know. I am pretty sure I can remove the screws and unplug the wires and put it back. I think that is most of what I need to do.

By the way what do you mean by the inverter being a problem?

Some inverters and/or backlight bulbs are not compatible with certain screens. You have to make sure they are compatible.

So this would require me to take off the current MSI screen and check how its connected behind right? That or wait for someone else to try it and write in. Other than that from your experience its something that is relatively painless as long as you move slowly and carefully right? Is there anything else you can tell me that I might need to look out for from your experience so I don't mess things up?

Yes it is pretty much plainless as you said. If you want you could do that to see the connector but that depends on you. You shouldn't mess up anything, replacing the lcd screen is pretty straightforward. Also here is a link to a website that specializes in lcd screen replacement.

I just picked this up on NBR marketplace and have been generally pleased. Despite being considerably weaker than my desktop it plays games just as well or better due to the lower resolution screen. The only physical weakpoint seems to be the plastic bezel on the lcd which clicks a bit. The LCD quality is pretty terrible contrast wise and I would have preferred 1200x800 as a resolution but I suppose that is unavoidable in this price segment.

Can anyone recommend the best overclocking method? I'm surprised at how cool it runs. I'm running Windows 7 64 and the only drawback seems to be an extremely low mic-pickup for the webcam.

Hey Guys I bought a Brand new MSI Ex625 from new egg A few months ago !
I am Pleased with this product , i Feel Ive got my 700 Bucks worth. Never had a problem with the hardware or vista (must update to sp2) The 4670 Runs Games quite well. Resident evil 5 Runs 50+ fps . Never had a problem with overheating our fan noise. Battery life acceptable. Screen is acceptable in quality. This laptop ran Force unleashed with minimal frame drops. it was playable with a slowdown here and there . but the min requirements for the game is a 2.4 ghz. plays most games liquid smooth. Excellent sound , i was sitting around a camp fire yesterday and using the laptop as a jutebox. The extra tiny sub woofer really makes it sound good. no deep bass but good mids. Hard-drive performance is impressive for a 5400 rpm in new star wars performance test

As for the cons there are some , The damn plastic dose feel a little flimsy and bendable. On the lid and underneath. maybe warping the laptop? i can't tell. also the touch sensor pad feels soft and pliable, this worries me. If this touch bar goes out, Ive lost the ability to run the notebook at full power

But over all Ive Bumped it on things thrown it down in a hurry in the bag i have and no damage. no signs of wear and tear. I smoke around it and take it to dirty environments, Still one kick laptop. Put "Reason 4.0" a sound sync and production application and it handled it beautifully . I was Creating Studio quality data on the road.

anyway , some thoughts are yes i would like to overclock as well , but we know with those tiny cooling components it would be un-wise until we can find some kind of cooling upgrade kit for this notebook , another thing is me being a mod builder , i would like the measure and reproduce the outer shell upper and lower in aircraft grade aluminum with a CNC . It would add weight but i don't care. I love metal on my Appliances.

    Revamping this thread!

Does anyone know of any coolers you can use with this computer. When I play BFBC2, Crysis... etc it dies on my because it gets too hot. I put a fan aiming in the back of the computer where the vent is, it works, but the fan is too noisy. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I have a p7350 // ati4670 // 4gb // x64 win7 and I got 7293 3DMarks. What is a good 3DMark score for a laptop?

I'm buying one of the Thermaltake Massive23 ST today. Good reviews. Fans are quiet and the cooling is above average and the price is about right.
