I did not changed my mind. I still have got the CPU. Wanted to post it today, went to PayPal to take your address and noticed that they gave you money back. Seriously, If someone would told me the story like I told you, I would not believe it as well. I felt so bad, that If anybody would come to my house during this time and told me " I am taking your notebook, tv and all your money " I would say I do not care, take whatever you want. Really, really sorry for this. I am not a bad person, just something bad happened to me. Hi folks, so i would just like to post to say over the last 4 pages the advice for someone who has never flashed a bios is superb. Ultra, Davey D and others helped a noob like me flash my bios and install an ssd unsupported by my mobo in stunning fashion without a hiccup. I wanted to just say thank you to all for all the help and advice. I have a super quick GX660r because of these fine people.

 

Seriously I cant get higher then 19 in the multiplie with Throttlestop... After 19 i got turbo.... Nothing else...

my cpu is i5 460m

Thete is nothing you can do to raise its performance but only MSI OC utility via bios you have been using till now

But the MSI OC in the bios sucks... When oc it start internet lagging in bf3... It doesnt matter if i overclock 24% or 4%. And yes, its stable. I have test it with 24% with prime95 in 8hours....

you cant OC because your CPU is LOCKED, you are not allowed to OC by INTEL

Hi Guy, s. Just got rid of windows 8 and did a nice fresh install of windows 7 YAY back to the good times!! SSD is amazing, bios unlock is amazing THANK YOU ULTRA!!!

But, theres always a but.
I have all drivers etc up to date, but the sound is rubbish. It sounds really light and tinny. Anyone got any ideas? The sound used to be amazing on my laptop.

Ok it seems the subwoofer and the treble are displaying as seperate devices. So i can either enable 1 or the other. How do i join them back together?

the sound is controlled by your drivver GUI app, open realtek sound manager and enable all the gadgets like DTS / BaSS BOOST / etc etc etc etc you will see the difference

Cheers ultra. My pci express slot is still showing as 1.1. Even in 3d appliactions. The gpu performance is fine though?

 

1.1 mode is low state mode, if GPU app doesnt require more - card simply wont switch to any higher mode like 2.0 max in your and my case. Only Ivy Bridge CPUs support 3.0 PCIE mode kinda more data bandwidth but difference is so minor in real life applications you would probably wont even notice if you had to compare both. My SandyBridge platform also allows my 7970m card only switch to 2.0 PCIE mode max, and there is nothing we're missing out really

if you feel its worthy then do it, take in account that two 7970m will cost you somewhat ~300-350e per card (600-700e extra) plus post so count it as expense towards the laptop, dont think you will get much money back from 6990, expect 150e per card these days, they loose there value alot lately. I dont know how much money you want to spend or what you wanna do with your laptop, many times you have mentioned you wanna go back to desktop, I think you be better of with that instead thinking laptop is going to serve you well, Im really not going to do the mat for you Im sorry man. If I needed highest of highest end laptop I would just go and buy sick M18X R2 or Eurocom Scorpius or Panther 4.0 etc yea get two GPUs in and have fun. The only reason I dont have desktop, I cant rely on one or multiple stationery machines I move alot I work alot and my space at office and at work is limited, I work alot in remote locations and etc, otherwise I would just build sickiest desktop for my purposes and would be happy.
I need power with portability so here I am with what I have. I dont know currency ratios but for 1700eur you can buy brand new EUROCOM SCORPIUS with 3920xm and dual 7970m and etc here from europe UK reseller, so its all brand new 17" monster for very little money

I struggle to find stable driver...

first shot tried 12.11 official beta, benchmarks were so so
3dMark vantage 18785 (18211 GPU score / 20747 CPU score)
3dMark 11 p6041 (6354graphics / combined 3611)

some scenes felt laggy during benchmarking al stock clocks
so tried running a game NFSMW 2012 all maxed and it was not running good at all laggy as f**ck
in msiAB noted gpu usage just average 50% and st sometimes spikes to 100% so,

tried 12.5 7970m mod driver known being stable from my previous experience, it wasnt

tried 12.7 7970m mod driver, somewhat better in game but still poor gpu sage between 50 and 100% keeps jumping

Yeah same. Using official latest drivers but performance is poor. Not beta but official finished release.

You need Throttlestop 4.0 running to operate the 7970M + CPU @ full speed and capacity - check your combined score @ 11, it shows you're running into severe throttle issues.

 

is throttlestop 5.0 no go?

with or without CCC on or off in CCC on powerplay no difference. Its DELL OEM 7970m card 3D clocks like it should be 1.05v

 

maybe msiAB show wrong clock ? check with gpu-z additional
check also with furmark or anything that load onyl card not with cpu

 

Yeah mine isnt at 1.5 volts either but i read a massive forum post that concluded it was dine and that some cards differ from others.

looks like its even more stable if I try run on max battery saving mode in CCC powerplay or AC unplugged

Well i need ro spend a day trying to get it working. Fresh install of windows and all latest drivers installed and when i loaded wow last night it was like 10 fps even though gpuz was showing the proper clocks. Very annoying considering before the fresh install it was running great.

 

Ok I just nailed it!



fresh OS install + 12.5MOD driver, install everything but not CCC and not APP PROFILES (go trough custom setup setup steps)

if you chose not to do fresh OS, uninstall all ATI softare trough control panel programs removal way, remove CCC, reboot to safe mode, scan and clean your computer with DriverSweeper for AMD - Display Drivers, scan and clean with CCleaner system and registry, reboot to normal mode and install 12.5 7900 mod driver but skip CCC and app profiles during custom setup menu.
Im using ThrottleStop 5.0 with these settings, works ok for me:

yes, but thats irellevant if I reinstall after cleaning everything without CCC why should I go hunting it down when its absent? why so concerned asking?

Ok so here it goes, clean install of 12.11 beta7 7900 MOD driver without CCC and without APP PROFILES made it all work with even better results!

Looks like 12.11 b7 7900 MOD driver works best so far, will have to see how stable that is

I got just about optimal possible scores for single OEM 7970m @ stock clocks, I see nothing wrong with that kinda delighted
