All your temps are pretty hot mate looking at that pic. Not being funny , but where do you live? Hot country? You laptop isnt near a heat source is it?

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for the gpu and reinstalling?

I live in the Netherlands, it's about 10C outside and ambient room temperature is about 19-20C. It's not near a heat source.

How do I uninstall and reinstall? When I search for a driver on the AMD site it just keeps shoving the catalyst program in my face. Where can I get the right drivers?

Ok my 1st suggestion would be to uninstall your drivers. Log onto safe mode and do a good clean with driver cleaner pro. ( its free). Re boot and reinstall the latest drivers and see where that takes us. Your gpu will only get that hot due to 1 in efficient cooling. 2 gpu usage being throttled 100% of the time. 3 excess voltage getting to your gpu.
All of those are unlikely if you just use your laptop as s gamer and not a modder. So lets do s clean driver install and start from there?

What version of windows do you have?

    Hi,
I bought Samsung 830 last week and as I expected, it didn't work right out of the box. So I flashed UltraGSM's unlocked nonRAID BIOS and now it works. No harm to my GX660 and SSD is working in AHCI mode.

Although there is one thing you should know if you want to use 2 drives -> my nonRAID GX660 lacks one of the two brackets ( MSI Genuine GT780, GT780R, GT780DX, GT783, GT70, MS-1761 Notebook Hard Drive Bracket 307-6F10112-C22). So there was a chance that one disk could slip out of SATA connection. ( I made wooden spacer to fix this :D )

    You will need:
    - Flash disk (recommended 512MB or less) formatted to FAT32 filesystem
    - Guide for flashing BIOS: http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_make_a_bootable_flash_disk_and_to_flash_BIOS_f.pdf
    - Unlocked BIOS (only for GX660, DO NOT USE FOR GX660 R) : https://rapidshare.com/files/1764507561/GX660_NON_R_COMPLETELY_UNLOCKED.zip
    - OR Unlocked RAID BIOS (only for GX660 R, YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT FOR GX660): http://www.filefactory.com/file/5skub454cq0v/n/E16F1IMS.zip

Folow the guide. Before you restart your laptop, you have to replace original BIOS file (E16F1IMS.10L) with unlocked BIOS file (GX660_NON_R_COMPLETELY_UNLOCKED) and rename unlocked BIOS to original BIOS filename. (So there will be unlocked BIOS file named E16F1IMS.10L on the flash disk). Proceed to booting from flash disk and follow guide.

After you finish all steps of the guide, you must go to BIOS settings again, on the first page enter "SATA Information", there set "Hot Plug [Enabled]" and "Port Multiplier [Enabled]" for Serial ATA 2 or Serial ATA 3 (depends in which drive bay is your SSD)

I hope it's clear enough, i'll try to answer your questions if you have any.

Okay so I cleaned and reinstalled all the drivers but it didn't help. It still goes to 100C+ when I'm gaming, no noticeable change. Should I just reapply the thermal paste or something? I'd like to try but I wasn't able to find a good guide...

Ask UltraGSM about flashing GX660R to GX660 unlocked BIOS, I think it may cause problems.
You would do better flashing to unlocked RAID BIOS and disabling this option in BIOS settings. You should wait for UltraGSM to answer.

You confused me with demand on non RAID BIOS in previous posts :)

    EDIT: Ultra was first :)

RAID is an option, I found it present in both RAID and nonRAID based bios files, but question is if it really works when unlocked and enabled in nonRAID version bios menu. However, I strongly recommend flash only matching bios version to appropriate laptop so there is least mistakes. I have also heard people flashing from non raid models to RAID model bios and later enjoy RAID feature in their factory nonR laptop, but better stay on safe side than be sorry later.

GX660 R fully unlocked bios is up

Go to bios and select as ACHI mode, disable RAID

Find advanced SATA options and chose port here your samsung SSD is detected then select on that menu HOT PLUG enable and PORT MULTIPLIER ENABLE, save settings and reboot

congratulations on successful BIOS flash :)

keyboard is fitted in to laptop but backlight PCB had to be taken out since it had crack in the main ribbon connector where it was bent as from factory, stupid Chinese never tested it, anyway I have cut off the broken piece and shaved off the sealant so I have now exposed copper, have traced don RGB color connection points now I just need time to find perfect voltage for them all to lit up at their optimal brightness so backlight module is under testing now outside the laptop, pm me details of ou laptop and price, my friend is looking to buy one laptop like that cheap, let me know asap on this one

it may show up as removable storage , nothing to worry about. Just leave that new samsung SSD in the laptop, remove your old HDD, and run bios, select Disable RAID / SEECT ACHI mode / in avanced SATA options menu list you will see your samsung SSD listed under certain port number -> select HOT PLUG: ENABLE and PORT MULTIPLIER: ENABLE

Save settings and exit bios (use F10 and press YES - Y)

boot from Disc media or USB setup drive and install fresh OS on that SSD, then see how it goes ;)

thats how windows display and utilize storage units after formating to their fle system format, incorrect measuring like a bad habit. Using linux or macOS will show you 256GB ;)
    notice in bios shows 256GB

If you want to use a drive in AHCI mode, when you initially installed windows onto that drive running in IDE mode, you need to enable AHCI mode in the windows registry.

Run windows as normal in IDE mode, change registry settings to allow AHCI drivers, reboot, then goto bios, set ahci mode, save and quit, then load windows, and it will work ;-)

So off topic but. Windows 8 is awful. Dont bother.

Also, ultra, managed to get my money back through paypal resolution. Mow back to looking for a cpu. That guy really ticked me off. Thanks for your help. Cpu buyers beware. Vwrafi is not a trust worthy seller.
