All your temps are pretty hot mate looking at that pic. Not being funny , but where do you live? Hot country? You laptop isnt near a heat source is it?
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for the gpu and reinstalling?

I live in the Netherlands, it's about 10C outside and ambient room temperature is about 19-20C. It's not near a heat source.
How do I uninstall and reinstall? When I search for a driver on the AMD site it just keeps shoving the catalyst program in my face. Where can I get the right drivers? -
Ok my 1st suggestion would be to uninstall your drivers. Log onto safe mode and do a good clean with driver cleaner pro. ( its free). Re boot and reinstall the latest drivers and see where that takes us. Your gpu will only get that hot due to 1 in efficient cooling. 2 gpu usage being throttled 100% of the time. 3 excess voltage getting to your gpu.
All of those are unlikely if you just use your laptop as s gamer and not a modder. So lets do s clean driver install and start from there?
What version of windows do you have? -

I bought Samsung 830 last week and as I expected, it didn't work right out of the box. So I flashed UltraGSM's unlocked nonRAID BIOS and now it works. No harm to my GX660 and SSD is working in AHCI mode.
Although there is one thing you should know if you want to use 2 drives -> my nonRAID GX660 lacks one of the two brackets ( MSI Genuine GT780, GT780R, GT780DX, GT783, GT70, MS-1761 Notebook Hard Drive Bracket 307-6F10112-C22). So there was a chance that one disk could slip out of SATA connection. ( I made wooden spacer to fix this ) -
^^ what he says
-
Do you just flash the bios and thats it? Do i have to change any settings?
Can anyone be bothered to give me noob step by step guide on how to flash the bios. I knows there is kinda a guide but im so rubbish at these bits im shatting myself. It would be so much apreciated. -
Hey guys!
I have the stock version of GX660-060US (i7-740, 12GB RAM, 640GB RAID 0 Sata II...) i want to know if somebody here have installed the new Windows 8 PRO and if this OS is really stable on this machine. -
- Flash disk (recommended 512MB or less) formatted to FAT32 filesystem
- Guide for flashing BIOS: http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_make_a_bootable_flash_disk_and_to_flash_BIOS_f.pdf
- Unlocked BIOS (only for GX660, DO NOT USE FOR GX660 R) : https://rapidshare.com/files/1764507561/GX660_NON_R_COMPLETELY_UNLOCKED.zip
- OR Unlocked RAID BIOS (only for GX660 R, YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT FOR GX660): http://www.filefactory.com/file/5skub454cq0v/n/E16F1IMS.zip
Folow the guide. Before you restart your laptop, you have to replace original BIOS file (E16F1IMS.10L) with unlocked BIOS file (GX660_NON_R_COMPLETELY_UNLOCKED) and rename unlocked BIOS to original BIOS filename. (So there will be unlocked BIOS file named E16F1IMS.10L on the flash disk). Proceed to booting from flash disk and follow guide.
After you finish all steps of the guide, you must go to BIOS settings again, on the first page enter "SATA Information", there set "Hot Plug [Enabled]" and "Port Multiplier [Enabled]" for Serial ATA 2 or Serial ATA 3 (depends in which drive bay is your SSD)
I hope it's clear enough, i'll try to answer your questions if you have any. -
You sir are a hero. Thank you.
Mate the bios flash pdf is a broken link as is all links on the msi site. Anyone hve a good link? -

Okay so I cleaned and reinstalled all the drivers but it didn't help. It still goes to 100C+ when I'm gaming, no noticeable change. Should I just reapply the thermal paste or something? I'd like to try but I wasn't able to find a good guide...

Gx660R mate why? I dont run in raid though.
-
if you run RAID version you need other flash file
let me upload it for you -
Oh really? Even though i dont run a raid setup?
-
Ask UltraGSM about flashing GX660R to GX660 unlocked BIOS, I think it may cause problems.
You would do better flashing to unlocked RAID BIOS and disabling this option in BIOS settings. You should wait for UltraGSM to answer.
You confused me with demand on non RAID BIOS in previous posts
EDIT: Ultra was first -
See ! Nearly botched it right there lol.
-
RAID is an option, I found it present in both RAID and nonRAID based bios files, but question is if it really works when unlocked and enabled in nonRAID version bios menu. However, I strongly recommend flash only matching bios version to appropriate laptop so there is least mistakes. I have also heard people flashing from non raid models to RAID model bios and later enjoy RAID feature in their factory nonR laptop, but better stay on safe side than be sorry later.
GX660 R fully unlocked bios is up

how did it go? bricked or survived? -
It's ok I've worked out what the problem was in screen resolution the writing size needs to be set to medium.
Thanks for the help. -
Lol i thought that answer was SO simple i disnt mention it. Sorry mate.
@ Ultra, wont be flashing till tomorrow mate. Thanks for the link. -
@ultraGSM - do you make these unlocked versions from the latest version that MSI have released?
-
^^ yeap ^^^
-
Have you seen scan.co.uk self built configurable gaming laptops? You can build a beast and the prices are fantastic. Sorry of topic i know.
-
Ive seen nothing special to be honest prices are crazy compared to AW or EUROCOM direct
-
I guess its the fact that i know they are clevo based. And so customisable that makes me so tempted. For 1k you can get a 1.8k laptop easy.
-
If you are looking for real BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mySN UK | XMG | by Schenker Notebooks is the place to check, you can make 7970m crossfire with 3920xm 17.3" + bd-burner/wlan/4gb ram all for 1730gbp,select i7-3630 instead and it costs 1200gbp only! now thats a bargain -

Ultra can tou link the mai version of your unlocked bios. I cant find the 4 r version on the msi site
Its ok i got it. Managed the flash but windows wont boot. Its gets to the swirly bit then blue screens!! Help!
Ok so it will only boot windows if i select IDE as sata mode. Even then when i get into windows the samsung drive doesnt show up alrhough windows detects it it doesnt show as a hardrive. -
@Ultra: I see you have upgrade your keyboard! How did it work? And what do I need to do? Do i need to rip down the hole computer?
Btw, im gonna sell my gt 663 soon -
Find advanced SATA options and chose port here your samsung SSD is detected then select on that menu HOT PLUG enable and PORT MULTIPLIER ENABLE, save settings and reboot
congratulations on successful BIOS flash
-
If i change it to ahci windows doesnt boot.
-
have you been using fresh installed OS on your new SAMSUNG SSD while it was primary set up in bios as IDE mode?
Then yes you may need to reinstall fresh OS and maintain settings I Have advised you in above post before you run new setup -
No mate, i am booting my old hdd with windows 7 on it and just looking to see if the samsung shows up as a storage drive and it doesnt.
-
it may show up as removable storage , nothing to worry about. Just leave that new samsung SSD in the laptop, remove your old HDD, and run bios, select Disable RAID / SEECT ACHI mode / in avanced SATA options menu list you will see your samsung SSD listed under certain port number -> select HOT PLUG: ENABLE and PORT MULTIPLIER: ENABLE
Save settings and exit bios (use F10 and press YES - Y)
boot from Disc media or USB setup drive and install fresh OS on that SSD, then see how it goes -
Ok installing now. Tell you what though. The samsung only shows as 238gb!! Supposed to be 256?
-
thats how windows display and utilize storage units after formating to their fle system format, incorrect measuring like a bad habit. Using linux or macOS will show you 256GB
notice in bios shows 256GB -
Urghh. . Well got the ssd working a treat thanks to you. Flashing was easy. Thank you! Just one thing. There is no memory settings in the bios? I wanted ro set the speed to auto like you said to?
-
If you want to use a drive in AHCI mode, when you initially installed windows onto that drive running in IDE mode, you need to enable AHCI mode in the windows registry.
Run windows as normal in IDE mode, change registry settings to allow AHCI drivers, reboot, then goto bios, set ahci mode, save and quit, then load windows, and it will work ;-) -
-
So off topic but. Windows 8 is awful. Dont bother.
Also, ultra, managed to get my money back through paypal resolution. Mow back to looking for a cpu. That guy really ticked me off. Thanks for your help. Cpu buyers beware. Vwrafi is not a trust worthy seller.
