:D yea and if it works? what's the outcome? :D

to know if you can OC with it? You can use any other tool, OC settings will be applied just the same to the card except the GUI will be different but commands are no different. I think You have 6990m , so in theory if it works for you on 6990m it should work on 7970m too

What is the gain? 10-15min overall more battery life or temperature control? Or unnecessary issues while gaming? Explain

undervolting + force clock ~ stable idle temperature that's important to me to use slowest fan speed = quiet MSI :)
without that usually gpu clocks variate and with that temp goes +60 and fan runs faster

my 7970m idles 35c if very little use of the laptop, 50c max on heavy multitasking and etc (not gaming) so if you go 7970m your laptop will be quiet automatically without need use of ATT

Throttlestop 5.0 has been originally designed to work with Ivy Bridge chipset/CPU so I do advise you guys to use the 4.0 version.
I also do tick EIST and C1E.

    Modded – BenchmarK3D

I have tried ThrotteStop 5.0 before and 4.0 now and seen no difference in the effect, so I may as well say any version will do as it worked just exactly the same for me, but you must use it along and and deselect BD PROCHOT option , just check my screenshot from earlier

    Whatsup, what happened , explain?

I ran MSI Kombustor benchmark to monitor voltage and see some performance, you can also use GPU Shark to monitor more stuff from GPU

While running game and etc did you ran MSI aferburner and did you check if clocks switched from 300MHZ to 850MHz ?

Its a utilisation issue. Even if i overclock the gpu it doesn't stay at 100% utilisation. It does in tests but not in games. Wow for instance. Facing one direction 100% gpu 97 fps. Turn around 36% gpu 13 fps.

But before clean install on samsung 830 it didnt do it.

for making things go well forget about OC first

make things go well with stock speeds etc 850 GPU 1200 RaM

try set your GPU 849MHz and leave ram intact and see if it hits full GPU utilization

ThrottleStop 5.00 works correctly for Core 2, Sandy and Ivy Bridge CPUs.

There have been many small updates since version 4.00 so use the latest version no matter what CPU model you have.

Mmmmh.... what about the fact HWiNFO 64 and others report UDMA6/UATA133 controller but UDMA5/UATA100 in use as default on GX660?
Is there an advanced BIOS (CTRL+ALT+INS) setting to change?

There are loads settings to play with but since it may be firmware hard locked you may not be able to fiddle with these settings, check my fully unlocked BIOS'es for GX660 and GX660R maybe it will be any use for you. im also thinking that the 1st gen i7 is what limiting SATA speed to SATA2 as you mention, even tho board may support SATA3 CPU doesnt allow this to happen

Glad to know :) now wait till you get the 940XM you will see the good BUMP UP in performance from your i5 cpu :) you used MOD driver or standard 12.10 WHQL ?

Well, when you get XM cpu I suggest you try that RAM of yours (1866MHz) again and see the comparison and speed that ram runs. By the way did you get deep enough trough bios settings to find places where you need to set RAM timing to AUTO instead of factory 1066?

    I have a Medion X6811 (MD 97682) which I believe is a rebadged MSI GX660.
I need a new power jack and can't find any information on-line, I notice Fordy 2001 had the same problem but I can't find any way of pm'ing him on this forum.
I also need to replace the plug on the power brick, ebay sellers are selling 65w adaptors which they say are compatible but my brick is rated at 150w, will a 65w adaptor work?
Any help on finding a part number for the power jack would be appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm a proud owner of a GX660R-646UK, I've upgraded the RAM to 10GB and swapped out one of the hard drives for an SSD, I'm starting to want more graphics power and am looking to upgrade my GPU as a result, I've read a lot of threads on here and elsewhere about the 2 or 3 pipes issue (i'll have to open my laptop up later to check which I have). I like the sound of my laptop being able to have a 7970m shoe horned in with some light dremel work which i'd be happy doing. As far as as I understand it I'd need to upgrade my PSU and GPU at the same time.

My question is, am I right in assuming the above is true, and if so where is the best priced place to find the above in the UK.

    Thanks in Advance,

    JT

    Hi SkeletalBOB

There are no issues with 2 or 3 pipe heatsinks, but of course there will be few degree Celsius advantage with 3pipe heatsink
Yes You need to upgrade your PSU to 180W prior getting new GPU and CPU
laptop is great machine and takes upgrades easy enough.
SSD as primary boot drive is great choice, so is RAM upgrade but you may be better off with sticking 3 x 4GB Same size same make same speed RAM sticks for finest performance. (I recommend Kingston 3 x 4 GB 1333MHz CL9 RAM, cheap on ebay)
7970m is the best GPU that you can get and give to our laptop as of date, so yes this is very good choice too but dont forget upgrading your CPU to something like 920xm and or 940xm which will all benefit when new GPU is combined in the upgrade.

For sourcing GPU i suggest checking market place here there are few coming up every now and then at great prices, but you must buy DELL OEM version GPU, and ask seller to check if 3D Clocks voltage is 1.05v (little tip for saving yourself hassle of instability and likes)
For CPU it doesnt really matter if its ES, QS or OEM, of course best choice will be QS and OEM, but OEM may cos you double the QS price, and QS is just few % more expensive than ES in some cases (also check NBR market place here, or ebay)

Alot people do upgrade LCD for better viewing angles and colour gamut and contrast, so if you will be shopping at that its a hard one because good screens are just few models out there and even more difficult to find genuine seller having one as likes ebay and amazon may sell one with the tag of what you look for but in reality you get some Chinese crap which is only a replacement for the tag that you paid for in the title,so be aware of that

    The LCDs you want is:

    Antiglare version: B156HW01 V4 Datasheet download - Panelook.com

    Glosy version: B156HW01 V7 Datasheet download - Panelook.com
