Flashing bios it is not only thing. Try to change settings in BIOS ! It is unlocked all sata options. On the back pages I made some screens how to set options. Perhaps for others vendors you need to change options.

i think im doing something wrong - for some reason HDtune shows it around 170MB/s as i said earlier but when i run AS SSD benchmark i get 210-220MB/s on the read benchmarks :S
Yes i also tried changing some of the Sata options in the bios - one called "slumber" or something... well i disabled it - sadly it had no effect - there has to be something related to this specific model.
I wont bother tho - its not like the extra speed is going to be noticable in real world apps or anything that dont do sequential reads all the time
There were other reasons why i was looking for this Bios tho besides the SSD anomaly i was wondering about.
Oh btw for others - if u enable "quick boot" in the bios it disables the ability to boot from USB -
To anyone interested, or anyone experiencing similar overheating problems to the ones I posted a few pages back:
I re-pasted my heatsink with Arctic-Cool MX4 and now both my cores max out at 80 Degrees after half an hour of prime95. Idle temps drop into low 40s. So the new paste vs stock helped reduce the temperature of the previously 'cool' core by about 6 degrees and for the hot one by about 18. -
Hey, I had never tried AS SSD, here are my results:
-
Majster....thnx for the link man...I have downloaded it now...I will try to update thye bios in the weekend...Hopefully i will be able to make use of my Samsung 830 series by then ..I will post the results...
-
Runs like a charm . I have also f830.
-
hey majster! congratulations for having edited a bios capable of solving ssd ahci issues, i've read your posts on a msi forum and it's crazy there was no official solution for that.
I need a couple of answers from you: i'm using a modified bios from Svet, based on official bios 3.J, some features unlocked, flashed with msihq tool procedure.
Now i want to flash with your release using that method, do i need to rename mod.rom i assume, isn't it?
Can you explain in detail how to get hidden additional feature by pressing ctrl-shift-alt-ins? it's a sequence or all together?
I would like my i7 840qm running with all cores to 2.4-3ghz if it's possible, and would like to buy samsung 830 256gb ssd or crucial m4 256gb (what's more compatible in ahci mode?).
Thanks for your kind reply and greetings from Italy!!! -
Hi guys,
Apologies if I have missed this in a previous post, its a long trawl back through the thread..
I have a MSi laptop, GX660R
i5-460M
ATI Radeon HD5870 / 1 GB DDR5
DDRIII 6GB
My question is about gaming performance, in particular in SWTOR. Has anyone with the similar build had any joy with the horrid FPS levels?
I have tried a few suggested tweaks on the SWTOR forums, but still unhappy with the results.
Should I be considering an upgrade?

To get more option in bios use ctrl+alt+shift+insert together during msi logo.
You can run all cores @ 2.4 etc. using throttlestop tool.
Get samsung 830 for best compatibility and ahci mode 100% stable. -
seems that my i7 840qm doesnt like throttlestop 4.0, at least i cant set multipliers in profiles...any suggestion? -
I think its only the 'extreme' i7 cpus that have the unlocked multiplier.
I've just upgraded my 740qm to a 920xm, and it flies :-D -
-
Extreme edition option doesn`t work correct even on 920xm. You have to set multiplier in throttlestop for turbo and it will work.
-
There's a whole discussion thread on these boards for throttle stop and how to use it, but yeah its only for those cpu 's with unlocked multipliers. The 920xm has much better Turbo clocks than my old 740qm, but with throttle stop you can override the stock settings and have all the cores clocked up full :-D

PS i use an unlocked bios based on 3.L -
I see some has already upgraded their wifi card, can anyone tell me which specific module is compatible with the gx660? and any recommendations? TIA!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Any mini-pci express card is compatible.
Popular cards are from intel and bigfoot. -
-
-
If anyone is having low performance with their ssd then maybe you should do a secure erase and that should return the performance back to full!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
1333 are likely 9-8-8-24.
The reason 1600mhz is not available is that all the IMCs wont handle it at stock voltage. -

Thanks meaker! looks like the Bigfoot Killer-N series are one of the best... but the Intel 6300 looks good enough or even just the 6200..
-
AFAIK, GX660 only has 2 antenna.
Bigfoot Killer-N is a good choice.
I have an Intel 6205 (replacement of 6200) and it performs quite well.
-
hey, many congratulations to all...this is one of the most skilled and useful thread about gx660 users! lot of infos!

You did modify the timings with taiphoon maj ?

I want the new high end HD7000 GPUs to come out right now. I want to change my gpu!

Free Online Storage & File Upload with FileServe
To unlock xmp profiles you need to unlock options in bios by pressing during booting shift+ctrl+alt+insert together. -
PS due to tight latencies when enabling turbo mode now system is crashing (of course it doesnt happen when latencies are 9-9-9-24) -
Hey guys...I am trying to flash my bios with majsters version. How can I do that? Majster said that all you need is to flash bios like MSI procedure? which procedure? the Dos version? I tried that, but I cant run mod.rom in dos. Could someone pls help me out...a step by step guide would help me greastly
-
I did it!!!! ....Problem was that on my laptop msihq 1.19 didn't give me the second option (to choose bios file directly)...I dunno why...I tried it on my HP pc and luckily It had a MSI board....so I prepared USB with that pc and now it is flashed and my samsung SSD works under AHCI! I need to reinstall everything now and after a clean installation i will post the difference ...Majster thnx for the bios man!!! u Rock
-
Ahci mode gives you higher transfers.
-
you dont have to reinstall when ur switching from IDE to AHCI - the idea is to switch drivers like :
GUIDE - Enabling AHCI mode AFTER Windows 7 Installation - Guru3D.com Forums
the web is full of useful guides like that - just type "ide to ahci windows 7" in google
you can also change modes back, if u ever want for testing. -
The laptop needs a fresh installation nontheless I am afraid...I tried too many things and its not running stable anymore ...One more thing...does this new bios help against those stupid BSOD's when u are watching a video file without the AC adapter plugged in? I still have them regularly (especially when watching HD video files..even youtube video's give me sometimes those BSOD's...I read somewehere it's because the bios limits the power consumption of the GPU....
Without a fresh install I would say it doesn't help because it still happens...But It could be caused because of the unstableness of my system right now... -
Doesnt the latest video bios from MSI fix this by increasing the voltage when in battery mode?
MSI Global ? Notebook - GX660
Mick -
I've just installed 8Gb of HyperX xmp memory bought from the market here.
At the moment I'm running in Profile 0 at 9-9-9-24
Whats the difference between profile 0 and profile 1?
Thanks
Mick -
BTW I have no problems with watching hd movies on battery and I have realy powerfull confing in gx660.
Check your battery wear level. Probably your battery is damaged or used. Remember warranty for battery is only 1 year. -
Yeah no problems here either, but I thought I'd read somewhere on these forums that the latest video bios from msi sorted the battery power video crashing issues. Which may help DaDolce out. Might be worth a try

Ive got an 830 ssd on its way, anyone know which of my current HDD's (raid0) is the primary one?
Do I swap out the one at the front or the back?
Cheers
Mick -
-
I've only got one ssd coming, 128gb, was planning to run the os and whatever game I'm into off that, and using one of my 500GB hdd's for storage.
I've done a backup of both C: and D: partition ready to transfer to the ssd and hdd, obviously not in raid anymore.
I imagine that configuration is ok?
My Q, was which hdd slot under the laptop is the primary one to stick the ssd in?
Cheers
Mick -
It does not matter which you stick your SSD in or HD, just leave the HD where it is currently and stick your SSD in your open slot. You just change your boot options and your set. Do you have a screw n holder to hold your SSD down? if not wanting to spend the money just tape it in.. should hold if your careful with your laptop and do not slamm it down.

Is it possible to switch between ATI radeon HD graphics and integrated on Gx660 I5 450m PM55 chiset?

Nop unfortunately

After two days of stress trying to get my system running with this 830 ssd, I finally have a stable and working platform! But what a saga getting here!
After multiple attempts at trying get my laptop to be friends with the Samsung SSD, blue screen crashes, corrupt files, boot sectors, instability, Struggling to install win7 without a crash!....I truly was pulling my hair out trying to pinpoint what was going on!
Tried different hacked bios files, I couldnt seem to find a definative guide for the bios settings and their meanings Just bits of information here and there, and screen shots of bios pages from Majster previous posts (very helpful) Ta.
So as it stands my 830 ssd is installed with a fresh win7 64bit. Ahci and trim enabled, zooming along in a nice stable fashion
So what has caused all my grief? The two sticks(8gb) of 4GB Kingston HyperX Running xmp or not it still crashes my laptop.
I dont know why, if they are faulty (I bought them from the market here), or if the bios is not stable enough to fully support them. Tried profile 0 and 1, both at 1333. xmp on and off. Still mega unstable.
Fortunately I hadnt 'broke' my 1TB raid HDD's, and could try a few things to come to the conclusion of pulling out the ram modules. So I'm back with my factory 6GB (4gb & 2gb) setup. And all is well. Phew
Mick -
glad to hear you found a solution to the issue and that the problem was the RAM.
I'm still using the stock RAM, I don't see much reason to change it. I still think 6GB is plenty enough.
Damm I am really liking my 920xm@ 3.2ghz all cores plus RAID0 SSDs. all my scores got bumped up decently, specially PCmark 7 which rivals even new laptops
A new HD7000 series GPU and I will have a monster machine still lasting me a while.
