    Thank you

    Hi, guys,
I'm fighting contrast and brightness controls, but simply can´t find the sweet spot! I know there´s no perfect setting to match all games, due to games themselves, wich are different from each other, but anyway...
My CCC is 4.11. I noticed brightness just changes on a four numbers basis (Flat, -4, -8, -12 etc), and contrast is a bit more "agressive". Could anyone who happens to have CCC 4.11 share his/her settings? Mine are brightness -12 and contrast +109 at the moment, but on some games I think I could use more contrast. But since contrast is related to white level, I´m affraid I´ll have an undesirable blooming. My brain is frying, and my wife is starting to get mad ;)
    Thanks in advance.

*Edit: well, think I´ve found the spot. After downloading a lot of patterns and greyscales, a program called Calibrize 2.0 solved the contrast/brightness headache. The pattern provided by it proved to be the most accurate, although quite simple. The majority of games are looking really good now. In fact I was almost there. Now it goes like: -12 brightness, +110 contrast and (important) +125 color saturation. Catalyst 4.11.
    Greetz.

I sometimes ask myself the same. Because I really can´t find a specific Gx 660 spare fan anywhere. And one day, sooner or later, it will die, it´s inevitable. It would be good to buy 1 or 2 to take with me when I go back to my country. If anyone finds it, spread, please.

Hi guys I need Your help. I want to upgrade my hdd to ssd because one of my hdd's is dying. I've got two options to choose from:
    Crucial M4 128gb
    Ocz Vertex 3 120gb
Which one will cause less problems with gx660r? Vertex 3 specification looks great on the paper but will I feel any difference between M4 and Vertex 3 in normal use (internet, games)? Vertex 3 is more expensive but I am willing to pay extra if it does not have any boot problems with gx660r motherboard.

hmm, they got 12k in 06??
but i have the same score with my 5870 oO
and unfortunately the temps are too high for me :(
why they didnt try to change the fan?

but overall, its interesting that this can be done.

EDT: ok, after i looked at some benchmarks for the 6970m, i guess they tested it with the i5 core
according to notebookcheck.de... we can get with the 740qm 14047pts... and with 940xm 17260pts

I have done alot of research into PSU for the GX660R!

    I am using a 180w Alienware 9700M PSU Li Shin 0415B19180 19v 9.5A.

I also have a brand new unused Targus AP05US (AP05EU in the EU) 180w universal PSU. It comes with three Tips. You can use tip L1 or L2.

I am going to get a 220w PSU but unfortunately they are all 4 pin din but the Targus Tips are also 4 pin din adaptors. So therefore I will use one of the Tips on the 220w and then sell the Targus. I have also contacted Targus to send me replacement Tips and at the moment they are trying to find them as the product has been discontinued.

It's under the control bar, where the power button and the various hotkeys are located.

How do you remove the control bar? I want to install a Intel 6300. Is it worth it? Can a third aerial be easily installed?

Don't know about the extra antenna. I only have a 6200 upgrade.

Anyway, simply fit something along the seams and gently pry it up.

As for it being worth it, it depends on your usage. I do a lot of file transfers on the 5GHz band, so I definitely wanted those features.

hey dudes and dudettes, has anyone figured out if you can control the fan speed manually, because actually u could "if u can ofcourse" turn it down a notch while idle("or while surfin") because it is a very cooled down laptop when idle! i get like 30 c on both cores and 37 on gpu? so has anyone done it? peace

What program are you using to overclock? MSI Afterburner only allows max. 860 MHz for my core clock. Is this dependent on the processor or RAM speed?

And so I´ve purchased a spare fan. I hope they will deliver it ;) . Original fan is working like a charm, but having one waiting to enter the game is a big comfort, so I can keep the TF button pushed without having to worry about fan durability.
For those who want to be on the safe side, here you go:

    MSI GT660, GX660, GT680, GT660R, GX660R, GT680R CPU/VGA Fan Module

Well, I assume they are reliable, cause until yesterday they had 4 in stock, now just 3 :D

How exactly. I set UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1, but it doesn´t help.

Edit: found the answer. Here for everyone:

Find the Enable Unofficial Overclocking EULA in the afterburner config file and put this after it: I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

Also change Enable Unofficial Overclocking to "1". Voltage control option is in the settings, just check the box to enable it (although if you dont have reference cards, you probably dont have voltage control).

    3000p in 3Dmark2011

But I need a stronger psu. I think I go for the Targus 180w. Or has someone a better idea?

I'm not sure if I should post this here, but I was curious how much you guys would sell your GX660R's for if you decided to sell them now? Also, if you didn't have a local buyer, which online method would you use?

Hey there guys, been reading around the MSI forums lately, and i've decided to go procure myself a GX660 (m17x, may you RIP.) . (i'ma flash it to the "R" bios for raid. ) Now, it seems that the 6970m works fine with the pm55 chipset you guys have (first gen i7/i5's). Now i'm curious if it'l work with the HM65 version. (the ones sold locally in my country are either of the two chipsets, first gen and the sandy bridge's. )

    Here's the specs according to the shop. SI GX660 (Sandy Bridge i5-2410) ----------------------------> i5-2410 / 8Gb / 640Gb / ATI HD 5870 !!!
    Intel® Core™ i5 Sandy Bridge Gaming Notebook
    Core™ i5 2410 / 2.30GHz to 2.90GHz Processor (new upgraded CPU !!!)
    Intel® HM65 Chipset
    8.0Gb DDR3 / 640Gb SATA HDD (entry memory !!!)
    15.6in. FHD 1366*768[/b] TFT-LCD Display (LED Backlight)
    ATI Radeon™ HD 5870* 1Gb GDDR5 VRAM
    2x Theater Class Speakers+1pc. Subwoofer
    Dynaudio Premium Sound ...
    Super-Multi
    802.11n
    USB 3.0
    BT 2.1
    HDMI
    eSATA
    HD Webcam
    XD/SD/MMC/MS card readers

I was thinking which would be a better buy as well, this or the pm55 version with the i5-480m.

    Thanks a lot!

(does this count as a double post if i post the same thing in 2 different threads? )

    Hey all,

I'm new to the forums so I hope you'll forgive the following noob questions. I've spent the last 8 hours reading all 100+ pages here and trying things the posts said, but in the end just asking is probably better.

I just bought a GX660R at the weekend with an i5-460m, ATI HD5870, 6GB RAM and 1TB RAID 0 HDD. I have some questions about overclocking which I just can't seem to figure on my own right now. I have a couple questions, but I'll start with my main issue:

I have HW monitor on keeping an eye on CPU & GPU temps which seem fine, however my GPU Core and Memory speeds seem awfully high at rest. Currently I have my GPU overclocked using ATI CCC's Overdrive facility, to 800/1050. I also have Powerplay enabled (set to maximise performance when on AC and maximise battery life on battery). When on battery whilst idle, the lowest my clocks will go is 300/500, and when on AC they stay really high at 405/1050. The memory clock seems to idle at whatever I max it at.

Until reading these forums I never realised that an GPU should idle so low (some people said 100/150) and so that got me a little worried. I downloaded Afterburner and tried to set up profiles (I wanted it to auto-switch when detecting 3D) but that didn't work. The profiles would not auto-switch despite being set up correctly (from what I could see anyway - if anyone can assist with that I'd apreciate it). When I manually changed profiles the idle speed would still sit at whatever I had set as the maximum. If i set 700/1000 it would idle at 700/1000. I have disabled it for now and gone back to Overdrive since Powerplay is at least brining my core down to 405.

Can anypne tell me why my idle speeds are so high and if there is a way to bring them down? Ideally I don't want to manually keep changing the speeds between gaming and surfing so if I could get Afterburner to change profiles properly that'd be great. Right now my GPU temp is at 45c with cooler boost on, it's going up to about 52-53 with the stock fan. Ambient is about 25 here atm though, sitting on my lap too so possibly not the best ventilation. I have ordered a coolers for it. CPU temps are about 30c with the cooler boost and 40 without it. Having said that, it's now been on for about 10 hours solid.

A few other related queries if that's ok. MSI's TDE: How does it affects the GPU? I've noticed a very slightly performance increase with my CPU (about a 6% improvement) but does it interefere with any other overclocking? Is there a way to use the TDE button to change between idle clocks and gaming clocks? Should I forget TDE and also overclock the CPU?

With regard to Afterburner's screen overlay, if I do get it to work with the profiles I'd like to have the overlay show FPS as well as temp. I ran Dragon Age II and could only get it to show GPU temp, anyone tell me how to add FPS in?

Lastly, does anyone else have a very quiet but high pitched rattly-whir coming from the main vent on the back left when using the basic fan? I assume its the fan spinning but I wanted to know if anyone else has it. Annoyingly it's at that sort of level that's just loud enough to be annoying if I don't have any music on.

I am sorry for asking such many, long-winded questions. I'm by no means a noob with PCs but I have to admit that overclocking is not exactly my thing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I'm one of those people who can't stop thinking about this till i fix it!

Hi Guys I am new to this forum, just seen it yesterday. I bought gx660 1 month ago and its really powerful. While reading on this forum, i read that we can upgrade the cpu to i7 920xm and its gpu to hd 6970m..

My question is, i kinda confused by reading a hundred pages, do i just simply replace my old cpu which is i5 480m with the i7 920xm without any software or bios modification? so as with the hd6970m.

    thanks.

Yes and Yes. 940XM is the highest cpu you can put inside the laptop but the 920XM is a better value.
