Nothing officially announced as of yet. Most info about new models are still under NDAs, so it might be a little bit longer before that info is out there.

Is there a way of re imaging the original drive without recovery partition/dvd's, I have a brand new system that has had a new install of Win10 installed on it, only issue is the tech guy here wiped the entire drive, destroyed the recovery partition in the process.....

I don't want to RMA the system, do MSI provide a backup of the factory image via flash/online/DVD's, I don't mind paying a small fee to get this back.

Could someone share a cloned image of the system (why isn't this available online?), there is no issue of piracy with this as I know Win10 key is held in the bios,

Other resellers offer recovery media (i.e flash drive) for a small fee, can these be purchased separately and used to recover the original factory image>

    Hope someone can help.

Why don't you clone your system now as it is fresh? That's what I did with mine being in a similar situation. And Microsoft offers free downloads of Windows 10 boot/install media. I don't miss my original factory image at all - got rid of possible bloat on it and could download the necessary drivers from the MSI support.

I agree with zipperi here, SSD space is too valuable to waste with recovery partition. When and if the time comes, you could get your drive in a clean state in as little as 2 hours. All the drivers are on MSI website. If you don't feel comfortable, just get your current state recovery, I hear good things about Macrium Reflect Free.

It's good - or Easeus Todo backup Free - or Aomei; others do exist, too.

yeah, it was about 19gb for me, I wiped it too. My ultimate goal is to replace the HDD with a 4TB SSD when the price drops.

You could try making a windows 10 bootable install USB from microsoft (its a free download, you just provide the drive) and then just using the windows 10 licence code that should be on the bottom of the GT83 to do a clean windows install. just be sure to also have the intel RST drivers ready on a second disk during the install if the GT83 you have has raid0 SSDs.

Depends where you live, I think you can check out xotic and HIDevolution, they had it as an option as I was browsing about. Though to be honest once I started pulling in shipping times and fee's I went with a local reseller.

Also I have found out that the gt83 barely fits on my little brothers little lapdesk pad. It's stable and by no means uncomfortable.

Updated to the latest Nvidia driver, now for some reason all my games have some dumb red tint over them and begin flickering, same with fullscreen videos, I suspect something to do with 3dvision any insight?

Uninstall all the Nvidia drivers except for the main one, Physx, and HD Audio (if you use it, otherwise delete it).

This is why I never install the other stuff from Nvidia that I don't use, GFE, 3d, etc.

I just disabled it as a quick fix and the problem stopped. Then I redid the drivers and put in the base driver, physx, and HD audio. I don't see the tab anymore. Oh well never used it never will. Lol

Now I just gotta debug my fallout 4 and why it won't load mods....12 mods isn't enough to crash it. Lmao

I'm having issues with multiple games now. Overwatch, bf1 etc. all crash when trying to run. I disabled game sharing in the Xbox app and the only way I could get overwatch to run was windowed. I understand sli doesn't kick in with windowed games. Bf1 would crash before even launching and overwatch gave general errors. Anyone have tips for what they did? This is the gt83vr w gtx 1080 in sli

Latest downloaded from nvidia released just around Xmas. That's what finally got bf1 to stop crashing. It takes forever to load the game though and the screen goes black for almost 5 mins before starting. Thought this laptop would be a beast for these games. Feeling like a pig

Reinstall drivers using DDU, sounds like the drivers did not install correctly, which happens a lot with nvidia drivers, at least in my experience.

If you had the basic drivers that it shipped with I would definitly do the DDU thing. I had an issue similar when I started. The loading thing might be a HDD issue. As I used my NVME ssd so I didn't see issues like that my longest being 1minute after swapping my HDD to an SSD.

Hi, i just bought GT83VR 6RF Titan (SLI 1080). I can't get Oculus Rift CV1 to work. Rift screen is black, but i can hear audio from headphones.
    - Oculus compatibility tool says everything is fine
    - I have fresh Nvidia driver (376.33) Is there any older Nvidia driver that could work?

    - i also updated all possible drivers and stuff from MSI support site, but after that Oculus lost all usb sensors so i decided to install fresh win 10, without any MSI stuff but rift screen is still black.

I have installed Rift and Vive many times to desktop PC's without problems, but it seems that laptops are causing problems everytime :(
Few months ago i had two Asus laptops with single 1070 and 1080 with huge performance issues on VR.

Regarding Nvidia driver, you can also do a custom installation then select the Clean Install option. This way, you don't get corrupted install.

I have reported this problem to MSI months ago and still no solution. The best work around is to get a HDMI to mini display port adapter and that will do the trick.

Thanks all. I did both the ddu and then a fresh install of the new hf drivers for the gtx1080 with custom option and clean install. Also I only installed the basics. No 3D vision and no GeForce experience. All seems to be working fine. Only tested overwatch. Will try bf1 tomorrow.

    Much appreciated!!!

I remember reading that at some point, new Pascal GPUs from nvidia had issues with occulus and vive with the HDMI port, but not with display port.

Personally I have successfully used my vive with both my older GT80 and new GT73 on HDMI without issues. Not sure what problems the occulus could have but as suggested by other users, you can try a mini display port adapter instead of using the HDMI.

doesn't really matter, kaby lake is a revised skylake so you will get 0% better anything. Specially since GT83 does not use iGPU and I am not even sure they will fit it with the CRM238 chipset anyways.

There may be an additional NVMe slot, or it may replace the SATA slot. You won't see any speed improvement with RAID, but with individual drives you'll have more capacity.

I think optane is on the cpu side. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I feel it's going to be like early SSD'S.

Wow, the Intel Ark database really let's us down on this comparison, there's hardly any difference shown - not enough feature details, even though there are new features - none are listed:

That would be good to know, if you need the new Series 200 chipset to activate / use / implement the new Kabylake / Cannon Lake / Coffeelake features.

I'm pretty sure you need the new chipset, those new features won't show through the previous generation chipset / laptops that have LGA sockets, for example.

The only docs I seen show the M.2 socket as the Optane slot...which means we are limited by the PCIE x4 speed, which I think is being maxxed out by existing PCIE x4 NvME SSD's. IDK if even a faster Optane M.2 would show it's full potential yet.

I think the current appeal for optane is reduced latency, though I havent really been able to look at it much, it's much further down the road...when i have to lay my gt83 to rest. lol

Optane shines when it comes to low QD 4K. IIRC it can hit near 500MB/s.
