why buy a monitor when u have an 18 inch screen?

Is the gt80 lcd compatible with NVidia's 3d vision package? it should be if it can maintain a steady 100hz....

Any alternatives too the nvidia one that are cheaper? I would love to make my system 3d :)

what do you mean by "scaling at the expected 95%"?

Lol CPU throttling -- possibly because if added heat?

CPU OS really the bane of the system -- needs a powerful CPU like one of those 16 core Xeon Chips that would be really nice esp if it came UNLOCKED :)

95% of a true 2x single 1070 notebook should achieve if SLI was perfect? Or comparing to 2x desktop 1070?

If they leave the CPU on stock, it scores very low as its stocks speeds are low. Unless you manually overclock those CPUs, they won't shine :)

Right, 95% SLI scaling, which is pretty darned good.

But, it's really an estimate, they would need to actually run 1x 1070 and 2x 1070 on the same laptop to get a more accurate score, but it looks like both runs were done with the same out of the box settings, so it's pretty darned close. :)

With free shipping too, right? :)

IDK man, without any reports from owners yet, I'd wait. I want to see real users running benchmarks and seeing real numbers.

The Futuremark Fire Strike scores for the GT83VR don't make any sense, and are less than our new friend with his GT73VR 1070 SLI gets.

It could be Futuremark problem, but it could also be a GT83VR problem - it's too early to tell.

If you want to be a guinea pig and run those benchmarks and tune it up for best performance, that would be cool, but make sure you have a solid grasp of the return period and if there is a restocking fee first

It's he is gonna put it in the truck and drive it to me. Lol and the return is 20 days and a flat 200 fee if I recall. I'll have to ask....my rog 751jw lasted longer than I expected. Lmao

I'll be the Guinea pig. I would hope my reseller wouldn't let me down. I have been buying from him for years and generally hand out cards to referr to him.

Edit2: I don't know if this is good or not but at the distribution center he supplies from a lot of companies are buying them for internal use.

That is the general problem we have been trying to point out. Way to many performance issues going on with MSI that really need to be addressed. And we were hoping with this new 1070N SLI setup things would be going in the right direction.....

And for the record, none of them 1080N's scores are remotely close to an all stock and over clocked P870DM2/3......Which should not be the case at all...

hey john do u know if any of the model comes with different cpu or different GPUs have different type of heatsink? i'd hate to get a gt83 without the new cpu heatsink. like back how we had single pipe heatsink in m18x without xm CPU and double/triple pipe heatsink with xm CPU.

The GT83VR is a completely new model, independent from the GT80S of last generation.

The 3rd fan added for the CPU in the GT83 didn't exist in the GT80S.

I would think the CPU cooling would be the same for both the 6820HK or the 6920HQ, as they are both 45w CPU's.

If you haven't already claimed your free games for new laptop's/desktop's sold with a 1070/1080.

IDK if your vendor needs to be involved, but check here then ask:

At least some good news :)

im a little bit worried about getting gt83vr, i understand the machine is new and parts are hard to find but i tried looking for parts on gt80 and 80s and can't really find much about it. MSI is much bigger than clevo when it comes to gaming laptop i'd think there will be more parts floating around but guess not, it seems even harder to get parts than clevo laptops..

if this was dell then alienware parts would be found everywhere on ebay.

With Alienware there is the harvest of parts from all the partially or completely non-working units, the basket cases, from which to cull parts.

With MSI, they keep running, so there are fewer carcasses from which to pick parts. So you buy new parts.
    MSI Laptop Parts
    http://www.laptoppartsexpert.com/c-187877-msi-notebook-repair-parts-accessories.html

    Or from ebay:

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/Laptop-Replacement-Parts-for-MSI/182089/bn_638557/i.html

    Or from AliExpress:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-msi-laptop-parts.html

Or from a bunch of other places...

    http://www.laptopinventory.com/Browse_Brand.php/MSI#ser

Or, Send it in to MSI for Warranty and *After* Warranty repair, as MSI gets all the spare parts :)

    https://laptoppartsblog.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/msi-replacement-parts/

"A couple years back, I seemed to be the only source for replacement MSI parts. Well, MSI stopped ordering extra parts and I found myself without any supply. I still get lots of requests so here is what I tell everyone. Since MSI does not order enough spare parts to sell to the public, they reserve all they do get for in-house repairs. If you must have a part, you should send your laptop to MSI for repair. Then, you will be prioritized to get whatever parts they have left. You can contact them at us.msi.com.

If you have questions about MSI, feel free to write me at info@laptoppartsexpert.com. You can also find some MSI parts available at our website www.laptoppartsexpert.com."

As above and the google link below, there are lots of other places that carry MSI parts now, not just "one guy" :)

Or, better yet, swap in a P870DM3 motherboard, and all the rest of the parts, so we could have a super hot running desktop CPU, super hot running GPU's, and *really* loud fans!!

That'd be one way to get rid of that crappy Clevo keyboard @Phoenix :D :p

Well if clevo got cheeky enough to build one like that I would.

Or if msi grew a pair and slapped down for desktop cpu's..and maybe released a bios editor for the savvy folks.

gt83vr got enough space to cool a 6700k. again the 6700k tdp at 91w vs the 6820hk tdp at 45w is pretty much irrelevant at this point. if both silicon of similar quality then they will be similar, with 6700k be cooler due to larger IHS and die contact.

I can think of a few places they can stick their poor silicon.

On another note, besides a mouse and external moniter what accessories should I look at for this monster of a laptop?

I have a pair of Logitech g430's that I'm enjoying.

As for the keyboards are you talking about the switch or the key caps? I thought they where compatible with any other cherry key caps.

And yea the external keyboard is a must when using the bigger screen.

A wrist rest to place alone the front of the laptop, to raise your hand high enough to comfortably reach the keyboard. Otherwise you are holding your arms up to reach the keys.

The GT80's came with a wrist rest as an accessory, but it's not particularly sturdy, and will wear through, so get a good aftermarket one and preserve the pretty MSI one to entice your laptops 2nd owner during the sale :)

how high up is the keyboard? if its not too much higher than the height of a g751 i have arolled towel i have been using quite comfortably...if find most wrist rests get grungy after awhile.

and thats assuming its gonna live that long. lol.....though i might be swaye'd by the LGA folks when those 6 core mainstream processors come along.
