Thanks guys for the warm welcome!
First question whats the deal with updating the Bios? I went to the MSI website and it offered Bios updates but I have no idea what kind of bios I have and know enough to know not to update anything if I don't know what it is. My last laptop was a Sony VAIO VGN AW350J (also a 18.5" beast) and all the updates were automatic and the Sony website allowed me to pick my model and I could download all the driver updates for my model there with no chance for mistakes. Needles to say I didn't need to know about Bios updates so a brief explanation please.
And one more thing, I'm designing a cooling pad to help cool this beast and hopfully never have to use the turbo if all goes well. When it's done I'll post it and I'm sure you will be impressedLast edited: Feb 18, 2016 -

Intel Skylake bug seizes up PCs running complex workloads
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...izes-up-pcs-running-complex-workloads.786708/
How to test your PC for the Skylake bug
Intel confirms there's a bug that could crash Skylake CPUs, under specific and somewhat uncommon circumstances.
Gordon Mah Ung | Executive Editor, PCWorld Jan 11, 2016 1:19 PM
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3021023/hardware/how-to-test-your-pc-for-the-skylake-bug.html
"The bug initially was reported only with the Core i7-6700K desktop CPU with Hyper-Threading enabled, but Intel’s confirmation seems to indicates it impacts more CPUs in the lineup."
" The bug has apparently been stewing for weeks on forums at hardwareluxx.de and then Mersenne.org which created the software, Prime95, that is used to induce the bug. Prime95 is used to find prime numbers and is also very popular with performance and the overclocking community as a stress and performance test."
"Besides the community post, Intel also confirmed to PCWorld the existence of the bug but placed an emphasis on the word “ might” because there’s no guarantee you’ll hit the bug.
“Under some complex workload conditions, like those encountered when running applications such as Prime95, the processor may hang or cause unpredictable system behavior. Intel has released a fix that resolves the issue and we are working with external business partners to deploy this fix through BIOS updates,” an Intel official told PCWorld."
The article then goes into some detail on how to set up and test for the bug.
And, another related, but perhaps different bug being tracked by Intel

New Skylake Build Randomly Freezing/Crashing - Page 17

"Ouch.... sensitive subject.
Here some posts which I think you should read...
'So let me be clear for the last time: C-states are broken on the Skylake system, did mention that serveral times in several posts. Is there a solution on this moment NO!' - "NOW I have not a hint of freezing so far."
'A lot of people turning c-states off and go for a offset mode voltage with the cpu, in combination with Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology aka EIST (downclock) and C1E state, which is functional and takes care of the Cpu downvolt, you can have really nice results on powersaving.' - "the system might consume 2-3 (two-three) watts"
So let me be clear... I present no solution, but a workaround on the fact that c-states are not functional on a Skylake cpu!
I claimed warranty on the cpu and motherboard and contacted Intel/motherboard supplier, because it can be both in this case.
When it is clear what's going on.... I always can rma one of both!"
Reply:
"You still suggest wasting time on loosing money. I thought we had agreed on not giving that advice anymore.
Gearhead: RMA your CPU. It is clearly not ok. 3 people in this thread did this and 3 people were successful doing so."
But for now.... I use the system day and night with zero problems. Uptime 6 days, 19 hours & 19 minutes"

According to the user's manual, you will need to press Fn + F6 to toggle on the webcam, if you press it again then it toggles off.
Once toggled on, use Skype to verify webcam connectivity.

Buying retail has the advantage of going in and paying for it and getting it the same day, or next day air shipping. You can work with people you get to know locally if you have a store in your area too
My local Fry's will do special orders, if you pay in advance, and after 20+ years of doing business with them, I know they are going to follow through.Last edited: Feb 21, 2016 -

What you experienced negatively about retail purchasing can be magnified many times through other methods, and are now as new to you as the retail purchasing model was before you started down that path.
There is something to be said about working with the evils you know, vs. starting out on another virgin path of discovery where the grass isn't any greener.
Once you are up close and seeing it in person clearly for the first time it may look exactly the same as you remember the other pasture.
The people on the other side have lived in that pasture a long long long time, and they know how to make it work for them. You are just the fodder for another day. -
Hello again. I have another problem with my notebook. Buttons TAB, ESC, Windows, Scroll Lock stop working today. ESC and TAB work only at task manager. On the laptop nothing scattered or spilled. Maybe someone have the same problem with keyboards?
Last edited: Feb 27, 2016 -
Update: Buttons work now but WTF is that, I don't know.
-
First I would reboot and see if it goes away, if not I would look at that program for an alternate config that keeps getting enabled by a shortcut or something. Lastly I would try uninstalling Steelseries and see if the problem continues.
I do have an alternate config, but the only change I made was having the notebook startup with no keyboard lights as I have it connected to external everything most of the time and don't want those bright lights on every boot. -

I have a question are both the fan supposed be working all the time because one of my fans is working only, unless I press the override button I think I have a problem with cooling.
-

Right side = GPU, Left side = CPU.
CPU fan (left) is less likely to spin than GPU fan (right side).
Which side of fan isn't working for you?Daygecko likes this. -

*I just played 30 mins of Dying Light, with every setting cranked at 1080 and 144hz display and my CPU maxed at 72, and GPU's were 72 and 58. Most of the time it ran around 120 or so FPS so it was working as hard as it could except for the few times it hits 144. This thing runs cool as far as I'm concerned (compared to the last few dozen notebooks I've owned).Last edited: Feb 27, 2016 -

For now roll back to another version before they started working on it. The main fix everyone was interested in for Windows 10 was the Wifi disconnects, which came in at version 1.1.57.1679
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...eshooting-thread.787182/page-13#post-10186860
Are you running Windows 10? I haven't seen any of the problems you are mentioning on Windows 8.1, and I was already running version 1.1.57.1686.
If you can roll back to Windows 8.1, you will find better stability there over the next year as vendors get things working on Windows 10 - while MS keeps changing things underneath vendors are having to roll out rapid updates to keep up.
Microsoft offers a downgrade license for Windows 10 Pro, you can run Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 7 Professional.
Understanding downgrade rights
https://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/downgrade_rights.aspx
If your GT80S came with Windows 10, but not Pro, call Microsoft and ask if upgrading to Pro OEM ($50-$99) will grant you the ability to downgrade to Windows 7 Professional/Windows 8.1 Pro.Last edited: Mar 1, 2016 -

I thought Sleep/Hibernation was already broken in Windows 10...
Reports are the option for Sleep is now missing, perhaps Microsoft is acknowledging the problem with Sleep/Hibernation, and is removing the function from Windows 10 until they can get it fixed?Last edited: Mar 1, 2016 -

What does Windows 10 have that Windows 8.1 doesn't?
The will be continuing bugs on Windows 10, and Windows 8.1 has been stable for a long time now, what is worth putting up with the continuing stream of Windows 10 updates fixes/bugs?
If you are going to stick it on on Windows 10, you might help the fixes along by reporting the Tile bug isn't fixed, and you are getting Speedtest app crashes as well:
http://www.killernetworking.com/about/contact -

Have you tried all 3 ways of starting the Network Manager Main Window? Maybe 1 of them will refresh the tiles correctly.
Start as App from Start Menu, type Manager, and Killer Network Manager should show up, left click that listing to start.
Right click on systray icon, select Show to start.
Double click on systray icon to start.
Maybe one of those entry points will work
Update, you could also try starting from the Metro Tile for Killer Network Manager.
If you go into 1 of the tiles showing, and then Back, will it redraw all / more / different tiles/Last edited: Mar 1, 2016 -

You should actually be fine not changing any settings. You only need to run the Speedtest once for each new network, as it's recorded/saved by network.
When you report the bug to Killer, ask them to send you an email when a version update fixing the problem is going to release, and offer to help debug it with them. That might get you a newer / interim release before an update gets posted to the download area. -

This is precisely why I haven't updated mine since I fixed my Win 10 disconnects with version 1677. It works perfectly without a single disconnect so I see no reason to mess with it

" @Firebat246,
I'm a support agent for Rivet Networks, the company behind the Killer Networking products. If your still seeing this issue, please try to download the latest driver from Killernetworking.com . We identified an issue with the 1535 driver in Win10 in certain platforms causing wireless to disconnect. This was fixed in the latest release (1.1.57.1679).

Sorry if this has been covered in this thread. Is there any place I can buy the GTX 980 mxm cards alone (not with the laptop)? Also, have we confirmed the power draw of the cards? I'm in the process of working out the physical and electrical logistics of installing two in my Clevo p377sm-a.
