I'm pretty bummed. Don't have my 001 model I bought 5 months ago. All that money spent and had to pay for my own shipping back for repair. I can't believe the ssd drive would fail after 5 months, and of course that is the one with the operating system so it booted into bios constantly. Sigh. I wait impatiently to get my bad boy back. Hopefully MSI will get it fixed soon. Starting to regret the purchase a little but I understand hardware breaks down. I just didn't think 5 months later.

So it could not see the drive in the bios?
-
Correct. It showed ssd drive failed and not bootable on a different part of the bios. MSI had me ship it to them. Sucked because I had to pay for the expensive shipping but oh well.

Your machine has two 128gb ssds. If it was just the array had got corrupted (and both drives were detected), breaking the array, recreating it and doing a restore could have recovered it
-
Yes I know it has two ssds. It read the first drive but it didn't read the second. Apparently the os and everything was isntalled on the second drive and nothing could be recovered. We tried that over the phone before being shipped.

Ok so I found something strange about my MSI GT80. Maybe some one can help me out.
When I switch off the GPU and only use my CPU as my main graphics card, youtube, steam, or any video won't play that streams from online, you name it. It just won't play it but when I switch back to GPU it plays the video no problemo. Any ideas what this can be and how to fix it? -

Weird

Yeah I am using chrome btw. I deleted my cache and browsing data, as well as modem and router reboots and I even changed my channel frequency and nothing. Steam videos started working but youtube and any video on chrome is buggy.I will try a different browser later today but I am, stunned
All i get is infinite load loop -

I ran Intel driver finder and it said I did not need to update, this was when I first ran in to the video problem.
Then I check the GT80 support page on MSI and I was running the latest driver .4206 and there was a beta available but I didn't download it.
So after you replied, I check Intel webpage and I found the latest driver ending in .4222
I ran it and now I am up to date and streaming videos for the first time on my intel driver to conserve battery. -
Side note, I recently traveled with the GT80 and my XBOX one using this backpack and there was plenty of room to spare. -
Man.. I don't know why it took me so long to notice this option in the bios but, I just found the function/windows key swap option. SWEEET. I am so used to pressing windows key combinations and having it on the right side proved way too hard for my old brain to get used to. This was honestly the only irksome thing I have about this laptop, now it's perfection.
-
Where exactly is this option in the bios? Please give more details as I have been dying to have this option as well. -
In my bios there's only a few tabs. It was in the 2nd tab along with things like Intel Rapid Storage, UEFI network stack. Maybe it's only available if you have an updated bios. I didn't have to update mine, but I've had my laptop for only a short time.

Hey guys.
I finally bought the GT80 263. However, I'm having a few reservations about it.....
The trackpad isnt as good as my alienware M18x
The sound from the internal speakers, which has been championed by a lot of online reviews on youtube.. is actually crap, compared to my Alienware. Im quite happy to do a back to back comparison video, but wow, the MSI sound is so thin compared to the alienware.
Im just wondering if anyone else has experienced this at all?
The reason I ask is that im worried im missing something.
Thanks

I will admit the trackpad is so/so. I use a a gaming mouse which is better for gaming. but for normal browsing and simple task. It will do. The keyboard compensates.
Dude to each is own. but I totally understand. I upgraded from a Acer 5750, then to a ASUS 551 JW. So everything is like 100x better even sound.
The speakers are very high/mid pitched speakers if that is what you mean by thin. but i like themfor playing my style of music, Black/Death Metal. My ears bleed from the howls and screams and shrieking guitars. The way my music was suppose to be heard. For Online gaming they sound on point.
Other than that I use headphones for playing games and I am not bothered since I live with noise roommates and neighbors.
If you really like Alienware, do you and do whats best. I suppose. Both manufactures upgrade abilities are superior at the moment. -
How do I reinstall dragon gaming center?

Also how much room is there in that backpack, would it be able to fit like 3 over stuffed 2 inch (or larger)binders and
several textbooks in addition to the laptop?
Thanks,

The shut down button immediately closes everything you are doing and shuts off, without any form of a confirmation prompt.
Is there any way to change that? I still want the button to function as "shut down" but I don't want to be prone to accidentally hitting it. (that just happened today) -

Also, another battery problem. While plugged in and doing demanding gaming, the battery percentage goes WAY down, into the 30s, even though it says "Charging". It then hovers between 30-80, while the whole time it says "plugged in, charging". What is going on here?

Usually it can't charge during gaming so keep this in mind but it shouldn't drain from the batt unless it pulls extra wattage from it now like the gt72 does for a power boost suppliment.

It's not a standard windows option but some third party program may be able to modify it, it's worth a look.

It was definitely on ac the whole time. I kept checking and it always said plugged in, charging.
Dragon gaming center showed around 160 watts maximum. I monitored it carefully to see what was happening.
Had the fans at max if it makes any difference. -

What program told you the wattage? But yeah it says 160 watts for me when I minimize gta 5. Maybe the watts drops since the game window is no longer in focus and paused, so it stops working to render it?

Oh okay. Is there any software I can install to troubleshoot? I've never had this problem before, only today when I played.
-
I would run msi afterburner to ensure both gpus are running too

Any issues during game play are best diagnosed by looking at a trace of cpu/gpu usage and temps during a period of where the issue occurs. Msi afterburner and intel xtu are good for generating the graphs.
-
Opening XTU and OpenHardwareMonitor. Nothing unusual, CPU is at 3.55ghz, topping out at around 93 degrees. Both GPUs are working, nothing else unusual.
Battery started at 100% and is slowly trickling down. I have no idea what is happening. -
When I minimize for a few minutes, the battery does start rising again.
This suggests that the laptop is indeed drawing power from the battery as well as the AC connection? -
I have the 001 model purchased at Xotic PC and my (numpad does not light) does not work any idea how to solve this

I've never had any problems with the outlets in my house. I'm not sure what to do. -
I called MSI and they said to do the battery recalibration. They said this shouldn't be happening.

By chance can someone post a recovery image? I added in 2 more SSDs and made the 4 SSD raid but I cannot find my backup.... Please help. The 1TB image is intact but I do not have a way to boot from it.
Thanks in advanced.
