This morning, after unplugging my laptop for a good hour, I decided to plug it back in. About after it reached 100% charged, It stopped showing (plugged in, not charging). I don't want my power brick to get too hot, and I don't want my notebooks, battery to get worn either. Anyone have a fix?

I am not sure I understand, what is the issue? The message "plugged in, not charging" usually appears when the battery is loosing charge over time, like at 99%. when you fully charge it, it just says Fully Charged or something along those lines.

If you do not find the code with the computer, email you original reseller and ask for one. The codes are digital now, and typically not included on a flyer.

I hardly ever see my notebook reach 100% I almost want to say that this is the first time I have witnessed it for myself. It usually stays around 92-97% battery life, and when it is within that range it says (plugged in, not charging) now it is staying at a solid 100% battery life. From old comments on the page, I have read that is suppose to do that, to preserve battery.

BTW, I found out that I am eligible for a free copy of the witcher 3 as well. I got my notebook off of amazon prime, and never received a promo code, how do I go about getting it? You think they would actually have the coupon?

The fucntion indeed is to conserve the integrity of the battery and to avoid needless overcharging. Once you go below 90% and it fully recharges, it is normal to hit 100%. If you stopped charging at any monent or turned it off at 99%, it will remain at 99% and downwards. It's normal so don't worry.

I would contact amazon directly and mention them the promo, so that they can give you your code.

    K cool.

After contacting amazon Prime directly they told me that Nvidia should be sending me a personal email about the promotion after regestering my MSI notebook on https://register.msi.com/
I have yet to receive it yet, I'll give it three more days. I have even tried contacting MSI about this. They told me that the promo is through Nvidia, and that it probably would have been in the Packaging box, which it wasn't. On another note, I cant even log onto my registered account. I keep getting a Captcha Error. -_-

GT80 should perform EC reset automatically after flashing.
But seems like it hasn't been reset correctly.
    Is SCM running?

I have been researching vigoursly for 24 hours and I just placed my order on newegg for the MSI GT-80 009. I recently got back into gaming and I bought a ps4 and returned it because it was joke. I never had a legit powerful laptop/desktop or gaming experience and now at 24 years of age, I join the laptop gaming community.

Glad to be apart of this forum, gloops. This site rocks. If it wasn't for this thread and few other threads I read, I would of never have made my final decision. Now I can't wait for it to arrive. Estimate arrival date is set for tomorrow. I will keep the gang posted.

Does anyone have any information regarding the upcoming refresh for the MSI GT80 for June that is under NDA, or is it just speculation/rumor? I am in the market for getting one, but would hate to order one and a week later a better one/upgraded comes out for the same price.

I am not sure there is any info yet. People tend to dig out all sorts of info as time approaches, but it is usually tied for new GPUs. I am not sure what new refresh comes but it is normal to see those. Honestly I don't know what could be coming, but I love my GT80 so any improvement might be for the better haha :p

As with anything, if you need it, buy it. If you can wait a bit, sure, wait it out. Just remember these refreshes are anual, or perhaps even more than anual. Be happy with what you purchased :)

The thing is with an NDA, with anyone who truly knows they can't say anything.

This morning, I talked to NVIDIA, and they told me to contact Amazon about the witcher 3 code. After contacting amazon, they were pretty clueless as to what I was asking them. I demanded to talk to a supervisor, and he looked at the link I told him to look. about 5 minutes on hold. He then told me that he will set up a ticket with his promo team to see if they can get this issue solved for me. I will let you all know further details tomorrow.

Keep in mind, that if you purchase a MSI GT80 off of amazon with a 980m VGA don't expect to get the witcher 3 for free, you'll have to go to extents on trying to get it.

So amazon ended up being a bit clueless about the offer huh? as long as you get your free code, you are golden. Lets hope everything works out. I suggest to be as patient as possible. Most of the time you might end up talking with people that honestly don't know and it can get pretty annoying, but if you loose your temper, it will be worse.

Yep and I even reinstalled SCM. All the normal short keys work (volume, brightness, etc...) just not the new two that the description claims the updated added. Though I don't even think we have True Color on these things. Reached out to MSI too, haven't heard a response yet.

Good evening everyone just recieved my new laptop today its awesome by the way ;).just a couple of queries tho.
    1. I've tried connecting it to my 4k TV via HDMI but I can't figure out how to increase the resolution to 4k because its maxing out at 1080p at the moment.
    2. Is it possible to shut the laptop and have the picture show up on the TV when I tried this today and the laptop went on standby and the image went off the television.
Sorry if this has been answered already I'm new to laptops :)

    Congrats on the computer!

Make sure you have the settings to Extend and not Duplicate, then you can change the resolution of each screen connected.

In power options there is a "Choose what closing the lid does" change the option to Do nothing.

Under Screen resolution properties, set the TV as primary display, then disable the internal screen. Make sure "Extend these displays" is selected/applied but not "Duplicate these displays".

Right click on a blank area of your desktop, then pick screen resolution. In the window that opens up select that from the pull down menu next to Multiple Displays. Then click on each screen up above and select the resolution.

Worst comes to worst, you can create a custom resolution for 4K at 30hz. If you create it with 60hz, you will have all sorts of problems haha, due to HDMI 1.4 vs 2.0 bandwidth differences, and the GPU's automatic chromasubsampling etc.

Also make sure you are using an HDMI 2.0 rated cable, as well as the correct port for your TV, as some TVs may have only a handful of ports with 2.0 rating and the rest for 1.4 etc.

    Question for you experts.

Do any of you guys unpark your cpu's?
I have the 4720 version and i notice my frames go from 130 to 60 sometimes in bf4 and advanced warfare.
i've read alot about people unparking their cpu cores and achieving benefits.

Any experienced views would really help, thanks

Planning to upgrade my GT80 -009 model (Add 8gb Ram as well as SSD). Need some expert advise to decide.

Kind of stuck with two option.
    1. Buy 4 256gb m2 sata and make all Raid 0 -- performance fastest
Cons - I only have 1 drive as OS ( 1tb capacity SSD) along with factory 1 tb HDD
    2. Keep as it is 2 128gb and buy 2 500gb m2 ssd and make that separate raid 0 configuration
Performance will be slower than the previous combo but I will have two separate drive -- 256gb SSD (OS Drive) and 1tb ssd(2nd drive) along with 3rd drive -factory 1 tb HDD

Please correct me if above understanding about partitions/OS drives is not correct, also want to know where to configure this ssd in bios. If someone can provide the step it will be very helpful. I want to retain all the data as it is in the 1tb HDD as I am not touching it either way and want to bring back the default OS image after installing new ssd by using the recovery disk (5 DVD - which I created earlier immediately after getting this beast)/ F3 recovery option can be used (I doubt it will not work in case I am pulling out installed 2*128gb ssd and replacing with 4*256gb).

If they're selling it for a thousand less..there must be a reason

Running without vsync you are probably seeing a power throttle due to the tdp limit of the HQ processors if I had to guess. You should try to create a custom refresh and try to vsync to 80 it 90 fps. Something good to try to balance out your cpu.

Im running a gsync monitor. I always have the fan button on so the cpu temp should stay below the tdp limit.
Maybe I will try a refresh cap of 119 or whatever lower options gsync allows me.
In bf4, if i sit under a tree, the fps might be 90, then if i move around it goes up to 130.
Very odd to me, maybe it's a lighting setting or something.

Remember it's not a temp limit it's a power limit within the cores.

We can't add more power. Unless we had the MX/extreme processors, all others have TDP limits. Still though I find it weird you have such a sharp decrease in performance. In my experience, my performance drops about 10% with excessively demanding games.

Monitor your CPU speeds and power. You can try slightly undervolting your CPU, processor cache, and reduce the processor cache ratio. All this will free up some watts to be used by your CPU.

I would go full 4x 500GB drives haha, but realistically, what are your needs? With both configurations you will have a pretty fast system, and you can choose which drive/s are/is the main OS drive and which others are storage. Even if you buy 4x256GB drives, you can partition it internally to be two 500GB drives etc.

500GB drives have better stock performance than 256GB drives in general. Even if 4 way RAID will have better max read/write, I think two 500GBs are the better option.

I'd go for two 500GB drives for maximum performance with small files (which matters more than sequential at that point). The sequential is capped to 1700MB/sec due to the SB -> CPU link speed.

Now 2nd qs. where to configure this ssd in bios (Only keep SATA Mode as RAID is enough or can we do separate configuration for different SSD in BIOS to make 4 way RAID)?
