I moved from the voodoo3 3000 to the 8500 myself, I had quite a gap in there I know but I was only just getting into the game back then. The GT80 should give you just a TAD more power to play with lol.

So i went back to a stock vbios since I do not need crazy overclocks for gaming right now. I used the latest vbios from the msi website. Now when I use afterburner or precision, any overclock on the sliders goes right back to 0 when i hit apply. I re installed the drivers and the overclock software also, any ideas?

EDIT: whats weird is I can overclock the memory just fine, its the core that wont listen to OC at all, is it because i used the vbios from the msi site?

Im finding a need to have another power supply brick. If mine conks out then im stuck waiting weeks to get one. Also, having one near my bed, and downstairs would be ideal.

Has anyone seen a genuine delta psu online anywhere? The store i bought my gt80 at doesnt even have a product code to order one (canada computer).

Anyone know of a place that would ship to canada? Amazon has nothing. Newegg too

The default VBIOS is locked which doesn't provide much of overclocking capability.
Talk to Svet at MSI forum for assistance with VBIOS unlock, see below link.

Have you checked with MSI directly?

The only weird thing is that the default overclock of +135 on the core should be there, but it isnt. I set any overclock on the core, even 1mhz, hit apply, and it goes back to 0. I had a custom vbios, but want to stay with the stock vbios for now. Seems like the vbios MSI sent from the factory is different from the vbios i just flashed from their site.[/QUOTE]

Hey! I was on here a couple months ago comparing a sager and this, I got the GT80 Titan 970 SLI and am loving it. I have a question though; I downloaded the msi gaming app and I don't see shift mode under the device settings like I'm supposed to, also when I do FN+F7 (which is supposed to be shift mode) it doesn't shift modes. Is there a way to fix this to switch between performance modes? Thanks!

The SCM service has to be running. Also, I think the Nvidia graphics have to be activated for shift to work. Intel doesnt work with shift

    According to user's guide,
    Code:
    - Press and hold the Fn key, and then press the F7 key to
switch among Sport / Comfort / Green modes and shift the
    performance.
    - This function will only be activated when AC Power is
plugged-in, and the default setting is Sport mode. This
setting can also be adjusted in the Dragon Gaming Center.

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and will be buying this laptop in the next week or 2 I just have a few queries to ask first.

    1. I will be aiming to link this to my 4k TV and was wondering what kind of cable would be best my TV is HDMI 2.0 and have noticed the laptops HDMI port is 1.4

    2. The 3 main games I will be running on this will be skyrim with lots of mods, GTA 5 and the witcher 3 I was just curious what the highest resolution I would be able to get on each of these with Max detail at 30- 60 fps

Thanks in advance for any feedback ;)

    1. Use DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter, such as this item below.
    http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Displayport-HDMI-Adapter-Supports/dp/B001NIEHIO

    2. Yes it can, this powerhouse can handle these games.

    Hello!

While it is very tempting to do what you are aiming for, 4K TV use, I am afraid there is no good news yet there. There is no proper DP to HDMI 2.0 cable. I have tried many that says hey are compatible but its a lie for now. I would advise to wait buying cables for now.

So your only choices right now regarding 4K is to use an HDMI 2.0 compliant cable, and connect it via HDMI to your laptop. nVidia supports up to 4K 60hz via chroma subsampling which reduces the image quality, thus reducing the bandwidth needed for 4K. It works partially well though I have noticed some games clearly do not support it and show artifacts, at least on my TV. This means, you will be tied down to 4K at 30hz. Which, to be honest, its about the better framerate you can support when maxing the current games haha :)

The best course of action there would be to use a monitor, with display port tech.

As for the second question, at 1080p, you should have enough framerate headroom to max modded games :)

Just got my GT80 back from MSI today! I RMA'd it about a month ago due to a faulty CPU power sensor causing it to think it was using 30W more than it was, and keeping it from boosting above 2.6 GHz. They did a mb/cpu swap and I booted it up just now to see it's only reading 6W at idle. Hopefully I'll get some time tonight to reinstall everything and make sure it's back at peak condition.

Just in time to get through the Witcher 2 before 3 comes out next week!

Excellent! Glad to hear that :) 6W is much more normal. The lowest I have seen is in the 4W range when doing absolutely nothing for a while. Normally around 6-8w for idle, 10-15 for light tasts.

Test it fully and hope to hear good things man!

    Hi everybody!
I had an ASUS GT750 for two years, and i'm thinking about upgrading it. I'm actually hesitating between the GT80-001( 4720HQ+980mSLI) and a Clevo p375SM(4930MX+970mSLI). They are about the same price. I know that the 980m SLI will outperform the 970m SLI by a 20% more or less, but what doesnt't assure me is the CPU. Since I'm looking forward playing games like the witcher III and Batman Arkham Knight, I fear that the 4720HQ will not be enough to play it on ultra. So, what do you think? What's your advice?
    Thanks a lot!

That's a hard one because neither of those games are out yet, both systems have advantages and disadvantages to each. I would probably just drop a couple hundys more and go for the 009 GT80 with the 4980 :) . This could be a toss up depending upon the games optimization, I know you probably don't want to wait for the games to be released but maybe someone in here can test Witcher 3 since its released first to give you a general idea to make your decision.

23 days, about 14 of that shipping both ways. I would have gone for faster shipping to MSI but it was already $150 for ground and insurance.

Thanks for your answer, yes the problem is, I have until the end of Juin to make a choice, I promised my ASUS to my brother and he needs it. I kinda discarded the 4980hq option because for example the witcher iii recommended specs include a 3.3ghz cpu., the 4980 rated sustainable speed ( no turbo ) is 2.8 so is almost the same. Also I'm living in Europe (France) and here the difference between the 4720 and 4980 model is 1000 euros... so i don't really think the extra Mhz are worth the cash dofference...

Edit: if somebody living in europe knows were i can buy an GT80 with the 4980 without paying 4300 euros that will be nice too :)

Well so far, most users, if not all, have sustained 3.4Ghz speeds for the 4720Hq or higher, and when gaming only, 4980HQ users probably are shy about 4Ghz. It all depends on the load. Remember that sustained speed is TDP bound, not randomly "turbo" setting.

The reason to go for an MX processor is because they have higher TDP on stock, and you can tweak them a lot. If you are not going to tweak them, you won't fully realize their potential. And at any rate, I doubt the CPU will be the deciding factor for games right now. Unless you plan to push over 140fps, then you might need all the extra mhz hahah :)

While the CPU is not the strongest, it works very well on the GT80. But personally the design, better sound, stock ips screen, and mechanical keyboard are all extras that made me go for the GT80. But we all have different needs, and people that need stronger processors will have to fight with a 4980HQ or the MX/ desktop variants of other manufacturers.

Setting a lower target and undervolting will help sustain higher clocks for longer.

Just an update for my GT80-SLI-009. I have not received my notebook yet, but I wanted to share some pictures of the cooling kit that I will be fabricating for my notebook. As of now, I have all of the parts, minus the block of C110 060 Copper that I ordered to machine the water block out of. I have decided to mount the holes for inlet/outlet on the end of the water block facing the user when the notebook is in use. I will then 90 degree straight through the plastic bottom cover. I will need to end mill perfect diameter holes into the cover. I decided this would be the easiest route. Unfortunately, this will leave the cooling lines exiting perpendicular to the laptop, which will make for a clearance issues. I have decided to adhere staggered rubber risers on the bottom of the laptop (double sided tape) in order to get the proper height clearance. I will cut the lines to length and then fasten the quick connect shown, This way I can safely disconnect and reconnect the lines with a hand on each line. These quick connects take some force to press in, I want to make sure I am not putting strain on the water block every time I connect the lines.

I hope you all have time to view the Imgur album I have up.
As soon as I Receive my notebook, I will do a dis-assembly album, along with posting dimensions of CPU heat sink, and CPU socket bolt hole pattern.
Once I measure the cooling block, I will remove the heat pipes/heat sinks as carefully as I can. I will be soldering these back onto the new water block for non-liquid cooling functionality. (in case I don't want to lug around the cooling unit)

I don't know if i will be able to take pictures of the block being machined since I am not in town, but I will be able to take pictures of the finished project when I receive it from being machined. At that point, I will still need to install two 1/4" BSP plugs, work the surface flat, (flatter than what a cnc can do) Then polish to mirror finish. (copper is really easy to mirror finish*) *extra step not completely necessary
Fit the heat pipes to the "taller" block then solder the heat pipes back on.(artistic bending without tearing the copper)
I will order longer screws and some short springs to keep with the proper mounting pressure to the CPU.

finally got my gt-80 SLI-071 in, been playin with it for a day, i added 2 of the EVO 500GB SSD's ontop of the 2 128's that come with it. I changed the raid configuration to raid1. just my preference. loving the laptop so far. playing COD AW. this thing is playing it in the ultra settings without a sweat, very nice. as soon as I get some hours on it i'll tweak it a bit/ install the xtu and reduce the voltages.

Hey Guys! I am a console gamer and never owned a gaming laptop before. I usually play games on PS3 connected to my Sony HMZ-T2 head mounted display. I also play 3d games as well. Now, i want to own a gaming laptop and need some advice from experts here. So i want to connect my Sony HMZ-T2 head mounted display to the laptop and use Nvidia 3D TV play so that i can play 3D games on my laptop. The display on Sony HMZ-T2 is 720p and i want 3d games to run smooth without any frame rate issues. I also want to be able to upgrade the laptop components in future, that's why thinking about getting a MSI GT80 Titan.

Could you please suggest me what model should i get? Titan-047 or 094 or o71 or 001 or 009? Much appreciated! Thanks.

What's your budget? The models vary by GPU power, CPU power, memory amount and storage type/capacity. If you can afford the 001 it gives you the extra performance for the money you pay for it with the 980M being around 30% faster than the 970M.

I would suggest one of the SLI models and I would prefer the 980 cards so (001 or 009). The 009 will give you more bursts of processing power in games but if you are playing at 60fps both will be very similar in most cases. As for 3d gaming if its running 120fps at 720p I don't see it being much of an issue for either model, if you step up to 1080p at 120fps it will be difficult at ultra settings on any pc with certain games as it will takes a great deal of processing aka CPU power and also depending upon the games optimization.

    For anyone thats interested..

I recently got the Acer xb240h G-sync 24" monitor and it is really smooth.
It's a tn panel so very fast. I notice right away that there seems to be about a 10 percent frame reduction using G-sync but the payoff is indescribable.
With battlefield 4 maxed out, and using sweetfx for smaa(ultra settings) my frames go from 74 at the lowest to 144. It usually hangs out between 115 and 135.

I really struggled deciding if I should get the swift rog 1440p. I'd rather have frames over 100 than 1440p at 70/90. Although G-sync is butter smooth even at 60hz.
I chose the 24" 1080p because it's only 15 percent lesss pixel density than the 1440p at 27". I notice it but not that much.
All I have to say is G-sync all the way!!
I just hope I dont have any of the problems with the chip that some other monitors are having

I have to agree G-sync is very nice, I use a ROG swift myself as my external display.

Thanks for the suggestion. Budget is not a problem. Now should i get a 001 or 009? I read that the CPU temperatures of 4980 can shoot up pretty high. Is it that bad?

Thanks for the suggestion! I can afford buying a 009 as well but i am concerned about the CPU temperatures of 4980.

Temperatures are ok especially if you tweak things a bit.

My GT80 .047 is on order and I'm trying to pull together the various things needed to get it up and running. I use two 1920x1080 DVI monitors along with the internal one for hardware & software development. Does anyone know if these will work or have any experience with the GT80 and them < http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ESM3FP8>?

i've tried pushing a 1440p, dual dvi-d input monitor with an active displayport to dual dvi-d adaptor. It worked fine for me but my understanding is that for 1080p dvi you only need a passive ( cheap) adaptor to make it work

I've somewhere on this thread and on at least one other the (strong) suggestion to install Windows with only one (SSD) drive physically installed and add the additional drives afterwards. However the 'why' was never explained. Will someone please enlighten me?

Anyone else update to the new 1812EMS1.105 firmware? Those new hotkeys don't seem to be working for me (regarding true color).

I am not sure, but maybe it might be easier to add the drives and setup a RAID afterwards, or likewise is just to avoid messing the current RAID when installing other drives. But I am not sure, I personally do a backup with acronis software, and then go my merry way of installing more drives haha :)

Not yet, I am investigating as well. Maybe I can try it later tonight. The general advise is, if it aint broke, don't fix it. since this firmware adds features, you could skip it altogether I guess.

It really depends, but make sure to download the latest drivers for the touchpad just in case it gets messed up after windows updating or anything else happens. Some users, myself included, had issues when the machine launched due to the drivers, and after updating, everything worked great. If your touchpad is working, then don't sweat it :)

Oh, and as for Witchet 3, for what I have seen, you should be fine running it haha. Even with the current Low vs Ultra videos, I think there isn't much difference... so you can probably max it without problems.
