Keyboard is better than GT73VR. It's no cherry. Best laptop keyboard that isn't a Cherry MX switch, and best RGB currently. But quality wise its no better than those cheap chinese knockoff short throw mechanical keyboards if you were buying a dedicated mechanical keyboard. But it's a king amoung laptop keyboards.

That's ironically what I was expecting. I was hoping for something that would be enough to not have to take my own keyboard with me to places. I just can't go back to a non mechanical keyboard. I like my loud clicky keys, lol.

I traded in my GT80 with a full MX Cherry Keyboard for the GT75 and I find the keyboard to be perfectly fine for my daily usage. This is the 2nd best keyboard I've had on a laptop right behind my old GT80. I find the smaller footprint of the laptop to be worth not having a full size keyboard like the GT80/GT83.

    Hi,
some news about my GT75VR! I send it back to one of MSI repair center in Poland (to be more accurate I send it to a friend who send it to MSI, due to my location it was kind of a pain in the ass to send it myself) and he just get it back!
Accodring to MSI, they replaced the motherboard (maybe the CPU too, i believe it's sealed. Someone can confirm?) and the GPU.
It amazes me how fast they worked on it, everything was done in a week! I heard so many horrible storys about MSI repairs center...
My friend performed some test and it seems that everyting works just fine, no more reboots. I should get my hands on it in a week.

    Fingers crossed!

The CPU and GPU are both soldered to the motherboard, so if the motherboard has been replaced, so have the CPU and GPU.

    GAME ON!

My mistake...you are correct, the GPU is MXM and the CPU is soldered.

I received my laptop this evening. It was supposed to come tomorrow so I was pleasantly surprised. I turned it on and have completed the very basic setup and was going to use the MSI Backup/Recovery Tool. Next I was going to set up wifi and get on the internet to load NOD32 and Macrium Reflect and Team Viewer and take another image. But I don't have MSI Backup/Recovery on my computer. I paid to have a "clean install" of Windows 10 Pro so I guess maybe that's why I don't have the program.

I really wanted an image prior to doing anything else to my laptop but I guess my only choice is to load Macrium Reflect and use it to create an image? Does anyone know exactly what I should do? I really don't want to mess up my computer at this point without having a backup image to restore it back to the way it was in the beginning..... @Phoenix, any suggestions for me?

With all that said........WOW WHAT A FANTASTIC looking computer!!!! I just can't wait to get it all set up and start learning how to use it.

if you ordered a clean install, that's what it means, a clean install, hence the factory image is wiped but fear not, it's a bloated Windows install anyway. It's 7:16am here now I am so sleepy but tomorrow in our tweaking session, we can create a Macrium Reflect Image before we do anything, then do all our tweaks and whatnot and create a second image. That's all you need really so don't worry.

You don't want the Recovery Tool...all that does is take it back to factory settings with all the bloatware / scamware and goofy partitions. That is why you got the Clean Install. You can take a MR image of the clean install...that's what you want.

I am so glad you like it... :notworthy:

Sounds good. Guess I should have saved $15 and not done the clean install....but that's OK. I work tomorrow from 7am-3:30 so you can just let me know when you're available (if you are, there's no rush of course, I know you must be exhausted...especially helping newbies like me). Will catch up with you tomorrow.....until then I'm shutting down my beautiful laptop to keep it safe from my inexperienced hands....LOL. Thanks

No, you definitely want to start with a clean install... @Phoenix will take it from there. You don't want to take his time to do a clean install for you...that would be asking too much.

Yes, I've downloaded the free version of Macrium Reflect so I'll be using that. Phoenix has been VERY KIND and has already helped me immensely!!! I practiced using Macrium on my desktop but have no idea if the image is good or not, I'm sure Phoenix will set me straight, he's a great teacher.

I must say that this is my first mechanical keyboard and it's very nice. Once I get my images made and start adding stuff to my laptop I have a Logitech 703 Wireless Mouse (and charging pad) that I'll use since I'm a bit "touchpad challenged". The touchpad right now is very sensitive but I suppose that is adjustable....or I'll just get used to it.

Now if I could only figure out how to get my Thunderbird emails converted to pst files and imported to Outlook 2016 I'll be happy. The 3rd party programs I've researched thus far said Outlook had to be installed on the computer that had Thunderbird and I'm certainly not doing that and then uninstalling and moving Outlook to my laptop.......well, I guess I could be it's a hassle to have to go through that with Microsoft!!!!! I'm gong to tackle the email issue much later, they can stay on my desktop for now.

Thanks to everyone here for sharing your knowledge........I could read this forum all day and night, it's addictive!!

Well @Phoenix got my new laptop (which came in last night) all cleaned up and running like a champ!!! I can't believe all the changes that need to be made to get a "clean" operating system. It's a shame Microsoft can get away with all the invasion of privacy stuff they do. I don't like the way I have Chrome set up but I'll play with that later, it works just fine. I installed my Logitech G703 wireless mouse and charging pad a few minutes ago and tomorrow I hope to install Office 2016 and get my email set up. I am installing my software nice and slow, making sure I don't have any issues with one product before moving on to the next. For this computer I upgraded most of my software just so I'll have the latest versions. I decided to not cheap out on software for this expensive of a computer. I'm finally used to typing on the keyboard and I have to say it's the nicest keyboard I've ever used. It's just so easy to use....and very fast. I disabled the touchpad and love how I can lay my wrists on a nice large flat surface and type, very comfortable.

I can't thank @Phoenix enough for all he did today, I don't know how he finds the time to help us. I took up more than my fair share of his time but I've learned so much already.

    Hi Kevin,

As you may know I've complained in the past that my GT73VR Titan Pro's Fast Boot setting cannot be enabled in the BIOS. If you enable it, save and exit, then check again, it reverts back to Disabled. MSI told me that's because I have an HK CPU and the BIOS has to check the overclocking settings and whatnot upon each startup so it cannot have Fast Boot enabled.

Now I read on some forum that someone with these GT75VR laptop is able to enable Fast Boot and have the setting stick which basically defies the logic that MSI tech support told me.

Can you check with your technicians if they are able to have Fast Boot enabled and stay enabled on these laptops? If yes, then maybe I could dig into this and see perhaps some BIOS setting is different on the GT75VR which I need to change.

Well something is going on with my laptop. In Word (and a few other places), the keystrokes are repeating uncontrollably. Happens in Sticky Notes too. I haven't had the issue when typing on this forum but it's awful in Word and other places. I don't know how to even begin to figure it out so I'll go research on the internet. I have changed the keyboard back to a default setting in Steel Series 3 software but had originally changed the color scheme.

Problem seems a little better when computer is plugged in rather than on battery but still repeats letters randomly. If this issue can't be resolved the laptop has to be returned which I certainly don't want to do.

If anyone has had this issue I'd appreciate some suggestions or recommendations.

    @Phoenix, any ideas?

@Phoenix, thanks but that didn't change anything. It's random lettering that keep typing on the screen and sometimes letters repeating on the screen that I haven't even typed and in fact I'm not touching the keyboard, includes repeating spaces. It's like the keyboard is being taken over by a DEMON. Very odd it doesn't happen on this forum. I have to go out for awhile but this is just an awful scenario. As it is, this computer is not going to work for me since I do tons of stuff in word and other software where typing "words" is involved. I guess it can be fixed but if not easily then I'll throw in the towel as once something I have doesn't work right then I don't trust it any more.

Sample. I typed "this is a test to see what the keyboard is going to do" ........what happens is all of a sudden for the word "what" the letter "t" starts typing over and over and then a letter "f" and then multiple spaces.......it's just crazy.

Keep the suggestions coming please and I'll look into this tonight when I get home......bummer.

Open up the bottom, disconnect the battery cable and look for a very long, thin cable that is about 1-2 inches wide. This is the keyboard cable. Pull the tiny latch to disconnect the cable, then pull it towards you (there should be about 2 inches of free movement from under the mainboard, as the cable is basically bunched up behind out of sight. You need to do that so that the cable doesn't wind up falling behind the mainboard somehow. Once you have a lot more cable to work with, try cleaning the edge with any sort of contact cleaner you have, wipe any carbon off of it, then reattach.

Also try uninstalling the steelseries 3 software completely and see if this helps.

@Phoenix, there was an update for Steel Series 3 that I just ran and it seems that my typing has improved to what it was. So far I have not been able to duplicate the error. I talked to my sister at lunch and told her it's got to be a software issue between office 2016 and/or Steel Series 3....not hardware because the error doesn't happen on any of the forums. There's still a little something that may not be right and occasionally I get a double letter but maybe that's just me, it's certainly NOT the issue I was having where letters were just randomly typing in long strings. I checked the Sticky program and it seems OK right now too.

I do have my Skype on if you want to talk but for now I think I can wait and see what happens from here on out since I'm sure you have much better things to do....LOL.

    Thanks for your help.

Just got my laptop yesterday. Loving it so far. Keyboard is taking me a bit to get used to, but it's the best I've ever used on a laptop. Performance has also been amazing and I gotta say the fans, after adjusting them a bit, are really not bad at all. In terms of tweaking, all I've done so far is get rid of all the Windows telemetry stuff. Since I had a clean install of Windows done, I felt this was enough for now.

Haven't messed to much with any of the hardware, but I did take a look at the BIOS. I am curious, is it not possible to undervolt with this?

Also one other small thing someone may be able to help, when I ordered I chose Destiny 2 as a free game. How exactly do I go about getting it?

I don't know about anyone else, but my Destiny 2 download is/was a nightmare. I did get it redeemed in GeForce Experience but it said it sent it to my "link". Well I had been taken to a place called Blizzard and created an account. But no software. Depending on the option I chose I'd be at a Blizzard sight or a Battle.net sight and round and round. I think I finally was able to download the game but I don't know if it's a full game or what and there is NO GAME showing in my account for GeForce, Blizzard or Battle Net....none!!

It's one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had (probably because of my inexperience...LOL). There is a link on my desktop for the game now (which took "forever" to download) and I did attempt to play it but since I don't have any instructions yet I killed myself in seconds....LOL.

I can't even begin to list the steps to get the game.....of course you have to have the code from whoever you bought it for and in my case it HAD to be redeemed from within GeForce Experience.

Hope you have more luck than I did.

I'm gonna learn how to play this game if it kills me (no pun intended since all I ever do in the game is "die"...well, last time I actually killed a few of the enemy before I died)....it looks like a fun game.

UPDATE 1/3/18: Playing Destiny 2 some more today and actually making progress. I'm finally getting used to first person play (I think I like 3rd person better???) and I'm now at a spot where I'm just sort of stuck so I'll see what "cheats" I can find on youtube. I printed out the list of keyboard commands and am slowly learning those. I'm new to gaming (other than Angry Birds and stuff like that...LOL) and on other systems always had a game pad, not a mouse and keyboard so my poor old brain has a huge learning curve. But the game is working good. I'm nowhere near the point where I can go into the setting and tweak them for the game plus I hate Nahimic so I stopped messing with it for now. I'm also having problems with going back and forth between my external spreakers and headphones. I haven't yet found out how to keep my external speakers plugged in and then when I plug in my headphones have the sound go through them without having to unplug my external spreakers. When I plugged in the headphones I told the program it was a "headset" but that didn't seem to matter until I unplugged my external speakers. I guess it doesn't know which speakers I really want to use but I thought the software would tell the computer that......probably operator error or maybe that's just the way the jacks work, I don't know but will research it.

I'm loving this computer. Still have at least 3 software programs to load (Hallmark Card Studio 2018, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 and Premier Elements 2018) so I'm hoping that goes well. I haven't decided on DVD/video editing software yet but that's another project I'll get into later down the line.

My screen seems to have this too

Only visible when you put your face about 14 inches away from the screen. Some backlight bleeding in the left and right and bottom of the screen but barely noticeable.

Looks like a stuck pixel, or an imperfection in the manufacturing.

Any ideas how to get rid of it? It seems almost all of the GT75VR had this.

This is why I always get the dead pixel warranty, though I’m not sure one bad pixel qualifies....

I got my laptop through the trade In program. No dead pixel warranty.

@Midas Touch, sorry to hear about that darn pixel issue. I've looked over my GT75VR and it doesn't appear to have any issues, at least not that I can see. I sure wasn't aware that "almost all of the GT75VR" had this issue. Is your screen the 120Hz 3ms, just curious. Hope you are able to get it resolved.

Exactly the same model in your sig. It's a very tiny dot, you wouldn't be able to see it unless you put your face about 10-14 inches near the screen. But it's becoming more noticeable, the more I think it's exact location. And I found it after cleaning some dust near the left side of the bezel.

Other than the pixel issue, Midas , how are you liking it?

I was reading the announcement thread on the GT75 and I thought (my impression, anyway) that you were fairly dismissive of the laptop and its price point versus what it offered over the GT73. If I’m wrong, I apologize, but what made you change your mind?

I’m obviously taking an interest because I’m thinking of buying one myself...

It's a huge upgrade coming from the GT80 (980M SLI, 60Hz screen) and I really like the GT75 since it's realease, that is why I requested Ming to offer it for the trade in program. Other than the dead pixel, I don't have any other complaint (at least nothing yet, haven't found any major issues).

Nice, I’m not very familiar with the trade up program. Would something like that apply for the GT75 in the future?

The trade-up program is over...and MSI is emphatic about it never being offered again. So no, it will have no affect on the GT75VR.

You can try UDPixel but if it doesn't work then it's a dead pixel.

Those tests has already been performed by my buddy and everything seems to work fine.

Still got to figure out why Playerunknow's Battleground lag so badly with the MSI default settings.. Last time I had to make a clean W10 install to fix it. I guess I'll make another clean install.. what drivers/tools from MSI can I skip?
