Is it really that GT75 is louder than GT73 both at idle and at load?
Is there any way to make it "dead" silent like Asus G701vik at idle with undervolt or anything? -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
GT73 and GT75 are both dead silent with auto fans.
GT73 only starts making noise with GPU >70C and CPU>80C auto fans.
Or cooler boost=jet engine.marrty likes this. -
Why do all reviews tell the opposite then? It is always written that you hear a consistent hum or so on. -

my factory gt75vr is fairly quiet. it only becomes a raging demon when the graphics get used.
-
They mean that it's noisy and loud under load, totally normal with notebooks such as the GT75VR.
My old GT80S was also noisy and loud under full load, and take note that it's only got a GTX 980M SLI and a 6820HK, not as powerful as the GTX 1080 and 7820HK, so you can expect that it will be louder with the newer models.Last edited: Nov 29, 2017 -

Quick question on how can I activate the ESS Sabre? I just received my pair of Sennheiser HD6XX from Massdrop.
I did a quick google search and saw that it should show up on Nahimic 2 but mine just says headphone instead of showing the Sabre HiFi.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=272982.0 -

With just the realtek drivers on my GT73VR with ESS Sabre (no Nahimic), when I plug my headphones into the headphone port, it gives me a popup with one of the options "HIFI HEADPHONE".
You should get that window.
I assume on the GT73 and GT75, if you have Nahimic, you should get that ESS Sabre window in that program.
You don't?
The hifi dac is a dedicated miniboard on the Gt73VR. If you can find the disassembly guide, it shows it on removal. -

Yeah that's the screen I get, but mine says "HIFI Headphone".
Does your GT75VR come with the 7820HK or 7700HQ?
Does it have the CM238 chipset or the HM175 chipset?
please find out.
Pretty sure the HM175 chipsets are the downgraded versions, without ESS Sabre, just like the downgraded GT73VR with HM175.
Only the CM238 version has ESS Sabre.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

I did not 'post' on our website, but you are correct in that the MSI produced graphic on our website is also incorrect for GT73VR models with the HM175 chipset...but our Specs pages are correct.

To clarify just a bit more, in the US market:
All GT75VR have CM238, Intel® Core™ i7-7820HK and ESS Sabre
Only GT73VR that have CM238, have ESS Sabre, and those have been discontinued and replaced with HM175 with no ESS Sabre. -
It's a nice feature, but most audiophiles will have their own DAC's already, so maybe that's why noone has said anything about it being missing, at least none that I've noticed.
Thanks for clearing this up and setting it straight.Last edited: Nov 30, 2017 -

@Phoenix, based on your recommendation I ordered my MSI GT75VR from Donald/HIDevolution and may need to bug you when I'm setting it up. I normally install Bitdender for my security software but Donald recommended I use ESET NOD32 so I'll be buying that this weekend and have it standing by. It's been awhile since I've loaded software on a new computer so I'll have to see what order I should load the software and what options to set for Windows 10 (which is what I currently use on my desktop) etc. Anyway, I hope you don't mind me asking for some assistance or guidance

First of, Bitdefender although it usually gets awesome results when it comes to virus detection for many months consecutively from AV Testing organizations, since its years, it's been known to be very buggy and usually does more harm than good. Not to mention that it's now super bloated and includes a system optimizer, registry optimizer, file cleaner, you name it. You don't want any of that fluff. All we need really is a good antivirus that has few or no false positives, no bloat, a good HTTP Scanner built in........that's what NOD32 is all about. See how light it is on the system based on AV-Comparatives latest Performance Results (lower is better, meaning less system impact) = http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart4&year=2017&month=10&sort=1&zoom=2
Secondly, when you receive your laptop, you will be greeted by the Windows 10 Setup Wizard and you will hear Ms. Cortana speaking, when you are prompted to login to your wireless network, do not do that otherwise you will be forced to sign in with a Microsoft Account, instead, click skip on the bottom left and proceed by entering a username for your computer and so forth.
Once you're on your desktop, now you can connect to the internet. Download TeamViewer and install it from this link: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/
then come to the forums and tag me and I'll then send you a private message so we can arrange a time to do the tweaking. All you will need is to run TeamViewer, it will give you a username and ID which you can then pass on to me so I can login to your laptop temporarily to do the tweaks.
these are the tweaks that I do:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.

@Phoenix, sounds GREAT. I just need to purchase the basic NOD32 Antivirus version or do I need the Smart Security or Internet Security Version? I've printed out your list and initial startup instructions from above and will tag you as soon as I get my new laptop and am ready to start setting it up. THANKS SO MUCH

I did a fresh clean install of Windows 10 as soon as I got my laptop. I actually pulled the factory 1gb drive and installed a Samsung 960 when I got it.
There is a specific order that the drivers have to be installed in or it will not install correctly. If you search my post history, you should be able to pull up my post that lists the install order. I moved to the GT75 after owning an MSI GT80 980m SLI. This is a nice laptop and the build quality is good. Probably the best keyboard I've used on a laptop aside from the GT80 full size keyboard.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

@Phoenix......while I wait for my GT75VR I'm ordering (or at least making a list of) some software. So far I have NOD32, Macrium Reflect and Team Viewer on my list but was wondering about software for antispam and banking, etc. ESET offers a software suite (antivirus, antispam, banking, etc) but I thought that perhaps you had some other recommendations that are better to use in conjunction with NOD32 (I am definitely getting ESET NOD32).
ThanksDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -

Gmail takes care of my spam and for the banking, well, I personally think it's overkill, NOD32 has a built in HTTP Scanner which blocks any malicious connections, downloads, and sites. That's more than enough for me and I do online banking, PayPal, shopping, since years so; but if it makes you feel safer then it's not a bad option as well, it has a firewall a bit more complex than the built in Windows Firewall and the banking and parental control if you're into tha kind of thing
Why don't you install the trial of ESET Internet Security and see how you like it? it's fully functional for 30 days and has no nags to buy or anythingDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -

I am "practicing" using Macrium Reflect (free, although I may buy the full version) on my current desktop so that I'll know how to use it on my MSI GT75VR. I want to image the MSI first thing after Windows 10 is set up and before any "tweeks" (I'll add additional images as I change up my software).
@phonex question: when using Macrium Reflect, do I merely backup ALL of drive C? I ask because my desktop had 7 entries on drive C as follows: 1 - RECOVERY Fat32 LBA Primary, 2 - DIAGS Fat32 LBA Primary, 3-NONE NTFS Primary, 4-WINRETOOLS NTFS Primary, 5-OS (CNTFS Primary, 6-NONE NTFS Primary, 7-PBR IMAGE NFTS Primary.
I don't know what will be on my MSI but I assume I'll backup all of drive C:?
Also, I backed up to my data drive but want to also back up somewhere else......so I'd use a thumb drive or can I use one of my Seagate USG External drives? I also made the Boot Disk using a DVD.
I guess I'm trying to find out if I am doing this correctly so that I won't mess up my GT75VR and will indeed have a good/working image.
Sorry that I'm so new to this......and as always, thanks for any help/suggestions.
My new software list for the GT75VR now contains:
Macrium Reflect
NOD32 (or Internet Security)
O&O ShutUp10
Possibly EMSISOFT
Thunderbird (for email)

2) Never install more than 1 security product at the same time. So you don't need Emsisoft here
3) the only thing the paid version of Macrium Reflect offers over the free one is incremental backups which allows you to reduce the space/time needed when creating future backups since it only backs up the changes. I don't trust this though (never tried it) but I don't feel it's really worth it as I only take 1 or 2 backups max. one on a clean install, and one when i've installed everything and configured my system to my likingDonald@Paladin44, Papusan and hmscott like this. -
@Phoenix, thanks for the link to the Macrium Reflect Installation/Usage Guide. I followed it and made a new image of my current desktop and made notes to help me with the first image of my MSI laptop. The first time I didn't download/install the Windows 10 PE zip file (I made a boot disk instead). Instructions on this worked perfectly. I'm just going to hope that the image of my new laptop works should I ever need it because I don't want to risk making one and restoring it as a test as I'd hate to mess up my laptop right off the bat. I guess that's not a smart thing to do but I think I'll have to take my chances.
Based on what you said, I'll also stick with the "free" version. Will also remove Emsisoft off my list of software.

Hello, still pretty new to these forums. Just noticed this section and I guess I kinda qualify for it now. Well... soon I suppose as I haven't actually received it yet, lol. I'm curious to know from anyone who currently has one. What are your thoughts on the keyboard? I have to admit, it was one of the main reasons I ended up choosing the GT75.
