I doubt I'll be comparing between games as the XPS15 9550 will definitely have reduced performance. Mostly videos at 1080p to show the difference between HDR and non-HDR panels.

Do note that the XPS15 9550 is very colour accurate as well.

But hopefully it arrives by the end of the week! I can't wait!

Well, it's less about comparing performance, and more to confirm that disabling/enabling HDR actually makes a visual difference.

Hi all - I'm in the process of doing the review for the GT75VR which I received yesterday :)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-gt75vr-7rf-titan-pro-review-by-zkst.809310/

There is flex in the screen but acceptable. It's not like year 2010 screen kind of flex, if you get my analogy.

I'm trying to figure out how to enable/disable HDR. I do note that the colours look better on my TN panel than my iPhone 7+ when comparing a HDR video on youtube!

    @ZKST

    Congratulations! Hope you're enjoying it.

I'm ordering one too. 7820HK/GTX1080 with FHD 120Hz panel. Sucks that MSI isn't offering 1440p panels with it.
Could one you please tell where the 5th maintenance cover screw is? In the middle with rubber pad cover?

It’s in the middle under the sticker. There is no screws under the pads.

    Hi guys,

I reposted my GT75VR with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut but I’m getting about 90-101deg Celsius in 100% CPU usage. Did I do something wrong?

Could the issue be the thermal pads under the CPU heat sink?

    I’m at a loss.

Any videos out there showing a proper repast of the GT7XVR variants?

It should be in the SSEngine 3 under GT75VR.

Otherwise uninstall and install it from the MSI Support website under Utility. Do not update to latest version. Use the MSI website edition.

Thanks i'll try to do so since my SSEngine 3 doesn't change keyboard's colors and the reason could be because of its version.

What were the temps before re-pasting? I've got a GT73 that just came out, and it doesn't even need undervolting to have perfect temps at load.

That's why I always recommend testing first, undervolting next, and re-pasting as a last resort - it's preferred to return for another laptop unit that is acceptable than spending all that time pulling apart the laptop to do the vendors job for them.

You might consider returning it and trying another one.

Temps were about 70-80 ish under load.

I may have repasted wrongly. No idea. Going to get more Thermal Paste and pads to see how it goes. Does anyone in Melbourne do professional repasting?

Yeah, those out of the box numbers are what I am getting, mostly in the 70's under load.

Undervolting for you would have taken it that much further.

Either way there was no need to repaste. Good on you for measuring the temps before re-pasting, there are a lot of people that re-paste that just go in willy-nilly and don't even know if they got improvement before vs after, wild.

If you left the stock thermal pads on, and they weren't damaged, no worries with that.

Usually it is a problem with too much paste - too thickly spread - and not enough heat plate / cpu contact due to the thick paste.

Also Thermal Grizzly pastes like Kryonaut need about 24 hours curing time, it's ok to run them during that time - gaming is fine too - and the temps will drop a good amount.

If you are getting first readings after re-pasting, wait 24 hours and measure again, before throwing in the towel :)

I may have stretched the pads alittle when I removed the heatsink. I am therefore ordering 1mm THK thermal pads as per one of the GT73VR repasting threads I saw. I believe the GT75VR is 1mm THK as well.

Do you recommend letting my computer sit and cure for 24hours before usage? I will repaste anyway because I am seeing very high and worrying temps without O.C at high CPU usage.

To help it cure, game on it without OC or with OC, the CPU / GPU will protect themselves by thermal throttling if necessary, and then after 24 hours run your benchmarks and measure temps again.

A lot of people wasted a lot of time repasting with Kryonaut a bunch of times, one after the other, without waiting for curing time - as it was not known at the time. Some blasted it as crap, but now also recommend it, with the 24hr curing time as a note :)

Even Torn thermal pads will work, as long as there aren't big sections torn out, little split gaps are ok.

IDK the thickness, you'd need to measure them. There are squishy pads and firm pads, order accordingly.

Give it another 24-48 hours to grow on you before tearing it apart again. :)

I've ordered the Thermal Grizzly Minus 8. They seem a bit tougher than the gum-like ones that came default. Any recommendations for squishy thermal pads?

    Hi scott,

I'll fiddle around with the thermal pads, I suspect it might have something to do with the pads maybe being too thick and not squishy enough hence faulting the connection between the heatsink and CPU.

Originally they were fine, as your temps show. Usually pulling them up when you lift the heatplate / cooling assembly will damage them to some extent. If they fold over or wrinkle in the right / wrong way they will "thicken" and hold the assembly up off parts that used to contact the hot parts.

If you have such wrinkles, cut them out, and put a small dab of K5 Pro there, or remove them completely clean and replace with K5 Pro - or get new thermal pads. It's a "case by case" basis for these calls.

Let us know how it measures temp wise tomorrow after some curing time :)

You should not have higher temps after a repaste, even with messed up thermal pads. The thermal pads don't even cool the CPU although bad pads mess up the voltage regulation because of heat and then things run hotter.
    Did you damage the pads?
if not, then that's not the problem

To paste a LAPTOP with Kryonaut, you are supposed to SPREAD it fully around the die so that it is completely covered. Use the spread tool included with the Kryonaut. You don't want it too thick, just fully covered. Keep in mind that using a little too much is better than using too little, when dealing with a laptop. Try repasting. It only takes 5 minutes to repaste anyway; it takes longer to wipe off the old thermal compound application than it does to take apart the screws and apply new compound and spread it.

And I repasted over 8 times with Kryonaut and Nanogrease extreme using the stock pads without any issue at all. If you did not damage them, they are NOT the problem. Try repasting the way I told you to.

And what are you using when the CPU temps are 100C? a stress test? Or games? or what? I hope you didn't use AVX....

Sure, out there in the Tundra you've got that tripping point where the perma-frost takes over and engulfs the thermals - you just gotta drop that extra 5c-10c from curing to get there ;)

The laptop is in! I'm putting it through its initial paces. So far, I've had some intermittent keyboard issues, with the last letter typed repeating 4 to 5 times. Also had some audio issues with two wired headphones that seemed to clear once a download that was running completed.

    A few questions...

Anyone know of good games out there that I can use for pushing this laptop? I'd like to see what the laptop can do. I'm looking for great graphics, as well as highly rated gameplay.

Is HDR something that is automatically enabled when running HDR content? I can't seem to find a setting to enable/disable it.

Gsync was enabled by default. Should this be disabled if I have the 120hz 3ms display?

Thanks for any answers that can be provided. Back to clearing my desk for this beast! ;)

Wow bro, very good specs, for the game you can go with (the witcher 3 ,doom, or middle-earth shadow of war) it'll push the laptop to its limit at ultra setting, but for HDR content unfortunately it doesn't support it, if u want to use your laptop screen then u should disable G-sync to make sure your laptop gives you the best performance.

    Thanks Alyus!

I've disabled G-sync, as recommended. I plan to pick up at least one of those three games this weekend. I've been messing around playing Rise of the Tomb Raider at the moment. Simply gorgeous!

By the way, the problems with the repetitive key input has gone away after the first reboot, which included Windows updates. I'm still not sure what may have caused it, but I'll continue to monitor it.

Hawaii50 , can you please download "Elite Keyboards switch hitter" and please run that and see how many keys you can type together without getting stuck inputs?
you may have run into a show stopper bug. I know the previous steelseries keyboards may have had 6 key rollover (or even less), but no idea about this one. I also do NOT know if the cherry MX keyboard in the GT83VR SLI had NKRO or not, either.

I'm playing The Witcher 3 actually on my MSI GT75VR Titan Pro and it's just amazing! Planning to re-dl Hitman to test HDR . My only complain about the lappy at the moment is that he's noisy as hell while gaming! While playing The Witcher 3 the gtx 1080 runs at around 80-85°C and it pushs the fan pretty hard.

It's ok i get the same in mine too you just need to put the fan speed at advance and choose at which temp it should go at high to cool ure laptop and you can get notepad cooler to help you decrease 2 or 3 degrees down if didn't work just decrease the graphics from ultra to high and that should help.

I ran a few tests, and was unable to replicate the initial problems. The problems I had with the inputs and the audio issues happened at the same time when downloading multiple Steam games. I know that normally it wouldn't cause those type of symptoms, but that was the only thing out of the ordinary that was going on while experiencing the problems.

I also had a few Windows updates that were installed upon reboot. I'll try to run the keyboard program if I experience further problems, and post any issues.

Going to try Witcher 3 too. Sounds like fun!

My problem is I know I've purchased it previously, but I can't seem to locate where I made the purchase. I may need to buy it again.

My GT75VR just arrived today. My SSD wont be here until Monday though. :-(

Any testing tips for this thing out of the box? I'm not reinstalling the OS until my Samsung 960 Pro m.2 gets here.

Hey guys im considering buying either the gt73vr or the gt75vr titan. Whats the big difference between the two?? The gt73 looks to be a little smaller which i kind of like. Looking at the gtx 1080 model with 120hz 1080p screens. The gt73vr is a little cheaper so i was kind of leaning that way. Is there any big reason why i would want to consider the gt75 over the 73?? They look almost identical with the exception of the keyboard. Are the 120hz 1080p screens the same?? I dont really care about 3ms response time vs 5ms im more concerned with color accuracy. I like ro play open world rpgs and games like that. Thanks for all your help.

They Mechanical Keyboard on the GT75VR and the newer CPU. My main choice was the Mechanical keyboard. Coming from a GT80, this was my only real option.

What do you mean newer cpu?? Dont they both come with the same 7820hk?? I was originally wanting to get an alienware to be honest. But i just cant justify spending that type of cash on something that has so many issues. Plus the screens on the alienware arent great. The msi just works out of the box which is what i want. It has a beefy cooling system and amazing screen so its just looking more and more like the better option.
