    Haha yeah I am a girl. I just received email from msi that I should rma my laptop for the fan noise and driver issues. Lol. I was just without a laptop for more than 3 months trying to get the gt72vr fixed >.> So I sent them an email back that the laptop is fine and they should work on new drivers with nshittia and that I am pretty capable of replacing a stupid fan myself. Sigh - they don't get it.
    I always run hwinfo in the background now so this is from today (I only ran ac: origins for like 2 hours and then watched some series and worked on bachelor thesis)... GPU was around 80 for the most part and cpu at like 67-75 degrees. It's hot today, with 26 degrees room temp. It's still on factory paste and I only messed with cpu voltages in bios.
    PS. Even I am hot sitting here in a dress and sweating like hell... 80 degrees celsius is very decent especially with my fan curve (max 59% gpu fan). I should try what will it do with the jet mode :D

    Now that I am thinking about it.... it's 26 degrees in the living room, but the computer room actually has the sun on it for the whole day and I forgot to open the window. Think it's more like 30 in here. Anyway I am ok with the thermals and I got used to the noise tbh already.

    PCH and GPU temps are a little too high dont you think? At least maximum values, but i liked the performance of that laptop...you put any kind of oc in GTX 1080?

    If you have a chance try install mafia 3, since was a bad port to pc, in my opinion was the best game to test bd-prochot since in some moments have a very high demands in cpu and gpu...more than AC:Origins.

    You should read my posts carefully >.> Room temp of 30 degrees is very high. I am on stock pastes. The gtx1080 in this beast can pull over 215W of juice - which is pretty much the same as for example gigabyte g1 gaming 1080 (compared via hw info). 80 degrees on factory paste is VERY good with room temp of 30 degrees lol. Look at this video (you can skip to 6:25)

    Do you still think 80 with max of like 85 is too high??? The damn nvidia stock blower gpu in desktop in open bench setting reaches 85 degrees like it's nothing and I am sure this guy does not even have 30 degrees in his house. Not even speaking of the one in the laptop reaching higher clocks haha.
    And I torture tested the thing with cpu+gpu benchmark at the same time, trust me there is NO bd prochot and NO throttling EVER.

    @heliada since you unlocked bios menus, if you ever get "TDP Throttling" from exceeding 45W Power Limit (I honestly dont know how the 8750H works, but just saying),, there is an easy way around that problem:

    CPU Power and Performance ->CPU Power Management Control -> CPU VR Settings->Core I/A Domain -> IMON SLOPE ->Set to value 50.
    Makes the CPU report half the watts its currently using.

    Yes power adapter is 330W and seems barely sufficient. Battery drains slowly while gaming (talking maybe 1% per hour)
    I tested for you in Alexandria. Worst fps I saw was a small dip to 57 for less than a second and then it went back over 60 (mostly around 65 in worst crowded areas). GPU usage was between 80-98%. No throttling. I also tested max fans: terribly loud and unusable imo, so I only lasted like 2 minutes till I had to switch it off but the cpu temp went all the way down to 60 and gpu to like 65 - no idea if it would go lower than that as I just cannot handle the noise.

    Also this is the heaven bench + throttlestop bench + recording torture test (the xbox recording windows stuff seems to have low priority so the recording is choppy and I had to remove audio as it was pretty distorted and laggy as a result of cpu resources not being allocated to it sufficiently - the heaven bench even went not responding a couple times). The benchmark itself was not choppy, just the recording. Nevertheless, no throttling - hwinfo screen is attached.

    When your EC has this code in it:

    EmSD=1.EmSD=0.AC_Out.AC_In.SusOn=H.Batt_Out.Batt_In.BATT_OFF.BattThrottleST = 1.BattThrottleST = 0.BattCurrThlFlag = 1.BattCurrThlFlag = 0.BattCurrentCrtFlag =

    and

    CPU_CrtT = 1.CPU_ThtlT = 1.CPU_ThtlT = 0.SYS_CrtT = 1.SYS_ThtlT = 1.SYS_ThtlT = 0

    it's going to have battery boost, system power limit throttling (if exceeded), and EC overcurrent CPU shutoff protection. But the H processors will never see that shutoff.
    Well, you could force it to happen. I'm guessing:

    Set CPU vcore to 1400mv (override).
    CPU multiplier to highest available for H processor.
    run prime95 FMA3 SMALL FFT.

    If the TDP throttle doesn't instantly kick the CPU to 2.2 ghz (meaning if the EC kicks in before the TDP throttle does), your laptop will shut off and power back on instantly.

    Why would anyone do that though haha. And to be fair I see no power throttling on stock clocks, even GPU rarely hits power limit, it's just sitting comfy at the voltage limit all the time (though with my temps the stable voltage is a bit lower resulting in clock dropping from 1860 to 1848 or even 1835 - so there is slight temp throttling going on... with max fans the gpu went back up to 1860MHz).
    I know the 1070 in the gt72vr or gt73vr is at stock very power limited, I honestly don't see that with my 1080 - at all. And the cpu is happily using over 45W for minutes at a time (the drops in cpu usage in torture test are because the benchmark stopped several times and I had to resume it: it's a time-limited one and I don't like prime95 to use that instead). - maybe infinitely but I just don't feel like using that damn prime95
    Yes battery boost sucks and I am sure MSI could manufacture a brick with 350W or so to eliminate the need for it... But I do not notice it at all - it's just there and makes my battery drop below 90% once every few days which results in it being topped up. Honestly not a big deal?

    Heliada.
    Use your laptop on battery power sometime until it drains to <10%. (or maybe, like...forget to plug in the AC adapter and have it sitting around for hours, or as what happened to some others, with the AC jack not fully pushed in).

    Then plug in the AC with the battery level at <10%, and then try to play a video game.

    Then you will care :eek:

    (Battery < 30% when on AC power acts almost like your old BD Prochot problem).

    You can avoid this throttle by physically disconnecting the battery (causes problem similar to BD Prochot), and then hacking the EC RAM with RW Everything, to "remove" the problem but still ........)

    I guess I am not picky enough for something like that to bother me. My laptop is sitting nice and comfy on the desk and it's plugged in all the time unless we want to watch a movie in the living room. I never once encountered a situation where I would need to start gaming right after plugging it back in. Not in the past 5 years. The questions is though... what will happen when the battery dies in a few years? Then I will really have to order a new one I guess if I still have the laptop ;)

    You can hack the EC. Can tell you how on facebook.
    But you'll have to do that every boot.
    You can automate it with one click via a batch (.bat) file though. It's not hard to do at all. Just requires changing two (or three) values.

    I don't think that is a good idea. From hwinfo I get following worst case scenario maths: 90W cpu+ 220W gpu = 310W... then I still have lots of other components. I don't think this can work with this power adapter without battery boost. No way. (and I really don't wanna fry the power adapter)

    Just so you know, I pulled *355W* from the wall with my Delta 330W PSU, no problem at all.
    Was running FMA3 prime 95 (105W) plus something on a 200W TDP GTX 1070.

    You'll be fine.
    You do know that the PSU will simply turn off if you overdraw it right? It won't explode. Have a little faith, for once? Do you really think I'm going to blow up your hardware after all of this?

    Thank you. Even though I have admittedly made some mistakes (the "i disabled NOS" thread, for example, but how was I supposed to know at the time that that register disabled battery power level reporting to the EC (which effectively made me THINK NOS was disabled?) but did NOT disable the actual power leeching? Then I re-enable that register and battery instantly drops by 10% lol...)

    I totally trust you that it is possible... but I don't wanna put too much strain on the adapter so it would get even more burning hot than it already is and just don't mind the battery boost at all actually. That's all. But thank you either way for continuously supporting all of us ^^ I still think msi should pay you.

    I also have the 8850H cpu but mine is still at x40 though which I think is the default. Phoenix just undervolted by 0.080 in Intel extreme tuning utility.

    I wonder though why the dragon center performance settings wouldn't stick after a restart and it defaults to 'current' each time. I have to manually apply the performance plan each time.

    The reported undervolt range at full OC, not stock, for the 8950HK has been -140mV to -170mV, so you should be able to go well beyond -80mV at 4.0ghz.

    Playing it safe during initial setup, where you would be setting lots of things for the first time, it makes sense to go easy on the undervolt to make sure you remain stable.

    -100mV is the point where most people with 4x core CPU's see a 10c drop in 100% load temperatures, dropping them well below thermal throttling, and further undervolt tested for stability will give even more thermal reduction at 100% load.

    So it's good to keep that process of finding the best undervolt at your desired daily multipliers when you are ready to engage in the process.

    Congratulations on your new GT75!! :)

    Thank you!! and yes, Phoenix did say that I can probably go higher than 80 and i might if it helps with temps. should I try to up from x40 to x44 in dragon center too? or try x41 or x42 first?

    It depends on your strategy, and how often you do this process. For me I jump by halves and quickly find the limits and then drop slower until it is stable, for undervolt and for multipliers.

    It depends on your laptops cooling, and the GT75 should be the best available, so for the GT73 4x core 7820HK for me the top OC for benchmarking or gaming for numbers is 4.5ghz, and for daily use 4.2ghz.

    For this next generation part, I'd eventually try to bump that up a bit, but given there are 2 more cores as well, it might be enough to match the 7820HK speeds.

    For now if you just want to get to work / gaming, 4.0ghz is good for a daily initial speed on 6 cores, until that "itch" for 4.2ghz+ becomes too much to ignore. :)

    Hi!
    @wilpang already confirmed that the 8850h is also overclockable, however @Tweety78 said that the settings did not stick and DC reseted to default settings after reboot.
    This sounds to me a software issue,can anyone confirm? ( @wilpang? )
    Also, @Tweety78 did you try saving it without the undervolting in effect?

    Yours was shipped just before @Falkentyne helped @Phoenix develop BIOS settings on his new GT75 that dramatically reduced temps. These results are without Dragon Center installed.

    See:
    About a week after yours was shipped, we began using the new @Falkentyne BIOS settings as default on all of our GT75 builds, as well as offering the @Mr. Fox Bottom Ventilation Mod as an option.

    I will have our Tech Support Team reach out to you, and if you would like, they can set yours up the same way.

    Hi Donald

    Is this offered to all owners of the GT75?

    Will this eliminate the need to use software tweaks like undervolt?

    Not all owners, but all who bought their GT75 from HIDevolution...yes.

    Note what I quoted above: "...with -80 mV...". The undervolt may be different with different machines, but you can work with that to get it tuned to your machine.

    I set it for now just to test to x41 in dragon center .I will see how it does slowly like you say but good to know it can handle higher.

    What I mean is it is saved in the 'performance' plan with turbo shift when I set it to x41 but after reboot it reverted to the 'current' plan turbo shift but with the default x40. but now I changed the multiplier in the 'current' plan too & it seems to stick after restart. I assume it can also be set in intel extreme tuning utility without the need of the dragon center.

    Hi Donald,
    That would be great if you could have them contact me to do the BIOS settings necessary, I thought you already started applying it before mine was worked on. so I would appreciate it if it can be done, Thank you so much!

    Im curious to see if anyone could do a serious overclock on 8850H, will be 4.4GHz the max value on 6 cores?

    @Falkentyne i tested this now a few days and my GTX 1080 is not at full power.
    i reconnect the battery and get my old FPS back between 90 and 125 with medium settings for destiny 2.
    atm the values are not set but the marked areas are the correct ones?

    Yes, XTU with / without DGC alone can also save Named Profiles that you can select, Apply and Save settings to, and it gets set at boot.

    Windows 10 breaks that XTU Apply at boot feature from time to time via Windows Update; there is a work-around by setting up a start up script:

    How to automatically under-volt in XTU without opening it
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-under-volt-in-xtu-without-opening-it.802143/
    @Tweety78 - If you have time can you please undervolt to the maximum stable for your multiplier, and then note / post the best benchmarks / temperatures info so you / we can remember it?

    That undervolt testing info would be helpful for comparison of the temperatures with the BIOS setting vs. the undervolt setting.

    The 8th gen CPU's are undervolting much better than the previous generation CPU's, and it would be nice to see how far the 6 core will undervolt even at full OC multiplier's @ 100% all core loads.

    There will be far more people doing an undervolt than a BIOS hack, so it would be good to have that info for undervolt documented here in this GT75 thread.

    Thank you for posting all of the helpful info and feedback on your new GT75 :)

    You're using the wrong offsets.
    Look at the table.
    Each table goes from 0-9 then from A to F.
    Take the offset I set at face value.

    Offset 31 is "30 + 01"
    offset 42 is "40 + 02".
    You circled the wrong locations.

    THESE are the correct locations.

    Offset 31:
    00=battery +external monitor(?)
    01= AC adapter+external monitor
    02=Battery+eDP monitor
    03=AC adapter+eDP monitor
    (left out a value)
    09=fully charged.
    If battery is unplugged, setting this to 09 changes this to 0B. Seems like some sort of error state where it can't detect the battery voltage, but still MUST be changed to 09 (let it change it to 0b automatically).

    Offset 42: Battery charge level.
    value 64 hexadecimal=100% (16 * 6 + 4 = 100 decimal)

    BOTH values MUST be changed otherwise NOS will remain disabled.
    If EC RAM register C6 says C0 or C1, it means NOS is enabled (or the EC thinks its enabled) and you have WARP SPEED, SCOTTY!

    E3 offset is correct.

    Thank you Falkentyne!

    Does anyone check the ultimate performance plan which can be activated in Windows 10?

    You would have to pay me to update to the new Abortion update. I'm still rocking Spring 2017 Creator's, even though I destroyed my Windows Store after doing all of the Shutup 10 and Phoenix tweaks (was trying to find a way to update my Xbox 1 bluetooth firmwares). No blown mosfets, Nvidia random KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED and magic smoke crashes for me today.
