Thanks for looking into this, @Donald@HIDevolution !
Msi probably thought that it was a 'weak click' rather than no click at all. -
@Falkentyne I appreciate your help and detailed explanation of the issue, it feels just like a missing spring really, just no tension at all on the right click, i know it sounds really nit picky but its allot more annoying than it sounds. @Donald@HIDevolution i appreciate that! Thank you!

Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Yeah that's a defect. Definitely needs to be fixed.
MSI does hire english speakers for some of their technical reps (one guy who answered the phone was clearly an American), but they are a Chinese/Taiwanese company. So you are never sure who you will reach. They probably, and I would bet cash on this, thought that you were complaining about 'weak clicks', which is a normal "issue" people have discussed, with one side having a lighter click than the other.
The resistance itself is caused either by a spring mechanism, or by a metal lever "leaf" switch, which also causes the click resistance and sound. It's almost identical in mechanical form to those on the old arcade "Cherry" microswitches, and on current Omron microswitches (these are used on Sanwa joysticks, and are almost identical to Cherry microswitches; I've actually disassembled one to fix inconsistent electrical contact activation with some Deoxit D5; the current Sanwa pushbuttons do not use a clicking mechanism at all now).
Unfortunately, you will have to ship the laptop back to HIDEvolution. This isn't even something an end user can fix themselves unless they were VERY experienced with disassembling laptops. Someone like @Mr. Fox or @Papusan or @Khenglish would have a field day and work with ease with disassembling a BGA vomitbook (grin), but this is beyond most users' ability, because you would have to literally take apart EVERYTHING. The keyboard and mouse is part of the 'final' housing that is disassembled upon complete disassembly.
I'm guessing that a fix by HID would have at least a 2 week lead time. These parts are not available locally; its the same as trying to get a spare heatsink from MSI. The fans are available in their City of Industry, California location, but these items have to be shipped directly from their Chinese factories.
If you want to see what work I'm talking about, look at
http://msi-ftp.de:8080/login.html
and go to the systeme / GT73 folder, and enjoy the music. (yes it's spelled systeme).
@Donald@HIDevolution would probably have a field day listening to that music.Last edited: Mar 16, 2018 -

Hi, it seems my GT75VR finally works perfectly! I've tested it this week, hours and hours of gaming and 0 issues! No more crash, BSOD! After 5 months since I bought the laptop and 2 RMA it finally works!!!

I'm looking for a cooling system for the GT75, something who can support the "fat bastard", any guess?
-
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Are you talking about a cooling pad?........
If so, the notepal U3 (if you can find it) or U3+. /thread. All you need.
Then buy some 120mm or 140mm Furious Vardar or Noctua fans and mod it with them and a power source.
If you mean a basic stand that can elevate the laptop up, you can use that too, but I wouldn't use a notepal on your lap though. What I actually prefer is my old NC-820 clone pad (that really old old one). The cooling is worthless, but it is a rather nice elevated stand that also works well on your lap. Still have it to this day. I actually use that to elevate the Notepal u3+ off the carpet so the fans don't catch the carpet. -
Yes cooling pad is what I mean. Actually I was thinking about the U3+ too but I was worried about those little fans. Better to add better fans?Last edited: Mar 19, 2018 -
go to post #10 and you can see what @Mr. Fox is doing and it is real nice stuff!
there was another threat which i can't find where someone post his parts which were bought for the modding.

@JeanLegi
Unfortunately, the GT75VR does have battery drain during gaming sessions, and MSI admitted this when asked directly. They just dont have "Hybrid Power" aka "Optimus". Hybrid power has been used to both describe "Optimus" (Intel iGPU+dGPU simultanously, e.g. iGPU handling 2D and dGPU handling 3D), and NOS (battery boost), where Battery and AC combine to deliver hybrid power.
NOS was originally created to provide more power than what the AC Can provide, back when the 180W AC adapters were unreliable (some of them failed prematurely) and the system would need more power than what the AC adapter could provide.
Nowadays, the Delta PSU's are far more robust and can handle more than the power they are rated for, yet this system still exists. A MSI employee said that this was due to some sort of 'government regulation' involving SAR (battery) devices like mobile cell phones and laptops and why NOS is still being used. All pretty confusing stuff and I don't know how much of it is fully true, or MSI trying to save face, but I'll accept it as it isJeanLegi likes this. -

I agree. But again, the question is why?
Is it government regulations like @BeastsForever.TheDragon said (remember he did not make this up! he spoke to a MSI engineer on the phone!)
Regulation for battery devices? Asus was doing the same thing...Vistar Shook likes this. -

These are Taiwanese companies, not American or European companies. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes. And these companies are not all in bed with each other.
Maybe something exploded and they got mad at fixing it? I don't know...
I mean, did we already forget about the SAMSUNG NOTE 7 BATTERY BOOM ? And that's a Korean company.... -

Not so fast, Papusan.
You forgot about Alienware.
Original Alienware made custom desktops and laptops and were competitors of FALCON NORTHWEST.
Dell saw how popular Alienware was (even though they were overpriced--only newbies bought their stuff, but you know many people dont have skills to build their own computers. Some are disabled and can't build their own computers!).
So Dell BOUGHT alienware. Took them over. Just like Electronic Arts took over Origin Systems and so many other companies.
So Dell used Alienware name and Alienware produced items using their old socketed tech. That's why the 17r4 ranger that could draw 600W power was so good (besides mainboard reliability problems. You know about this.
But the original founders of Alienware wanted control over their direction so they left the new "Dellienware" and made their own company "Origin PC".
Then Frank Azor slowly exercised more nazi control over alienware, used @Mr. Fox 's own hard work and experiments against him, after using our knowledge against us, went full BGA and you saw what happened now.
And the more I think about it, the more I think I'm right about MSI.
They use the same exact motherboard for 3 product lines--MS 17A1 mainboard.
Used for: GTX 1070 x1
GTX 1070 x2 (SLI)
GTX 1080 x1.
Same bios, firmware, exact same board. Only differences are heatsink layout and cards.
So their power delivery system has to allow for all three configurations.
230W, 230W * 2, 330W.
So they use a combined system, combined CPU + GPU1+GPU2 power.
And NOS (battery boost).
That's why it is so easy to TDP mod a 1070 GTX to 200W. Because the EC still has to allow this power configuration. (Only question is if one slot can handle the full draw or is it split between master and slave---need Schematics for this. No one has this).
If this is true, then the CPU could probably handle a LOT more power if the video card isn't being loaded. If the same power delivery system has to deliver 230W (115 * 2) to two GPU slots, or 200W to 1 GPU slot, then something like 80-100 amps for the CPU. All depends on schematics. But there is some relation, because like I said, if you set GPU To run "full speed" (not downclock) when idle (desktop), the CPU power draw (watts) will DECREASE by half at idle! But CPU isn't drawing any more power its still idle...so ...i think i'm on the right track. Maybe ignorant, maybe I don't know how to swim. Maybe I'm using a raft in an ocean....Last edited: Mar 22, 2018Ashtrix, Papusan, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -
Proff me wrong but acer remove this nos feature from their devices or not?
And thanks for all this input.. don't know all of this stuff! -

I know nothing about Acer. Only saw one person here with their device and they said it was a gaming, throttling mess or something.... haven't really been reading their forums either.
Asus had a huge battery boost problem on their GL502. And that caused a comedy crapstorm of epic proportions.

The 3ms 1080p MSI is the nicest overall panel I've ever had.
However playing PUBG at 1440p on the Alienware gives a crispness and clarity that can't be matched by the MSI, not to mention how good text looks at that resolution. I've swapped SSD's and deleted and renewed for sale ads multiple times as I've flopped back and forth with my decision.
Ultimately..the Alienware panel sucks. It seems to be stuck in a permanent SRGB mode that has bad colors and a yellowy tinge. If it were as fast as the MSI screen I just might keep it though... But it's not as fast and my eyes have adjusted to modern fast response panels so I'm keeping the GT75VR.
I'm running 140 screen scale in PUBG on the MSI and while it's not perfect clarity in very happy.
Cant wait till the fall for the new laptops and hopefully some QHD screens with all the bells and whistles!JeanLegi likes this. -

I don't know enough about Panel modifications. There's a lot more people in the Clevo forums who know about this however.
What I *DO* know is that the panels that officially ship with MSI laptops are fully supported, because their ID's are stored in the Bios. Or maybe in the EDID. I don't know if the EDID is separate or not from the Bios. Maybe it is. In desktop monitors, it's part of the monitor hardware itself, but stored separately from the main firmware chip. I'm not a monitor guy, though.
I don't know if you purchased a panel that does not usually ship with a MSI GT75VR configuration.
But from what I have read, you will need to do 1 of 2 things:
1) mod the EDID
2) mod the driver inf.
I believe most people deal with modding the driver INF, so the monitors will not black screen after the drivers are installed.
I suggest you check the Clevo forums for more information and do some searches. this is outside of my knowledge now.
There may also be issues if your laptop supports GSYNC and the video card supports Gsync and the panel isn't on the gsync whitelist but that's over my head totally.Last edited: Mar 23, 2018JeanLegi likes this. -
What is this trade in program of which you speak? I'm anxious to get a decent laptop but with Cannonlake and (probably not) Volta getting close, I don't want to end up with a 6 or 8 core machine available a month after this lovely thing gets delivered.

Yes of course it can.
But it has to be FORMATTED as a GPT partition first, so that it can be used natively by UEFI.Last edited: Mar 27, 2018Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

While I'm on a roll...a likely little known fact about the model with the 7700HQ is that it has a 200 watt power limit.
It may be the only 7700HQ there is with essentially an unlocked power limit in the bios. ( I rarely see over 45watts anyway but it's nice to never tdp throttle.)
Certainly this processor will never thermal throttle either as temps rarely go over 65c in gaming.
When I sell it for a new next Gen laptop with HK cpu...the poor buyer will likely not even care what cpu it is but instead be mesmerized by the whole package!Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Power limits overrides are ignored for the 7700HQ. it can not exceed 45W for more than 28 seconds, regardless of what's in the Bios. (Power Limit 2 setting for 7700HQ is 62 watts. This can only be allowed for 28 seconds sustained). What saw in Bios was called a "MSR" (CPU register). However there are two things that have higher priority than MSR's. One: MMIO, and 2) PECI. PECI has the highest priority of all, as this is controlled by the EC (Embedded controller) and can overrule everything.
MMIO stands for memory mapped IO. The CPU's default TDP is stored in the MMIO. Trying to change this results in an instant BSOD. The CPU's SKU type mean that the power limit can only be between minimum and TDP limit. Both the EC and the MMIO can enforce this.
Even on an unlocked 7820HK CPU, changing a certain "EC RAM" register will cause the PECI to overrule the Bios overrides and enforce TDP.
There "is" a way to circumvent this in the UNLOCKED BIOS, however this depends on how locked down the EC is with regards to PECI. (Changing IMON SLOPE to 25 can avoid TDP restrictions on UNLOCKED processors done via PECI and MMIO. @Vistar Shook has verified this works on his eVGA 7820HK which has an artificial 70W power limit (enforced by MMIO or EC--probably EC), which ignores the bios setting. This also works on the MSI 16L13 which has a 91W TDP limit on the 7700K, which (again) ignores the Bios setting (due to a MSI "bug"). Unknown if it works for locked processors. Can't test it).Last edited: Mar 28, 2018Vistar Shook likes this. -

I have a Corsair K70 RGB profile that I've had for awhile and there are always new profiles up on the Corsair forums. Wondering if there is the same for this laptop? Or is it just not that customizable? -

Is there a laptop cooler/station something of that sort that you all would recommend that would be good for gaming/whatever while on my lap. I'll probably bring the laptop to the Living room to game on the couch from time to time I'd imagine. I wonder if such a thing even exists. Having to factor in it would be nice to have a place to put a mouse as well instead of using touchpad. I'd imagine the notepal's (lapair) are probably too small? >>Apparently what I'm looking for is a "lap desk"
