Hi Guys I have been following the forums ever since I thought about getting one of these a few months back, but hadn't posted yet. But anyway I appreciate what you guys do and I want to thank you all for the info I have read as it helped me decide what kind of laptop this poor kid (me) was going to drop over $3000 on and since it was such a large purchase for me I did a lot of research before deciding on this. I was torn between on of these, an Aorus X7 DT V7-KL3K3D, or a Sager/Clevo. I ruled out the Aorus because even though the 1440p screen sounds good on paper I heard that they suffer from light bleed real bad and have washed out looking color. And the screen selection on Clevo's didn't seem much better. I know I gave up a more upgradeable/modular platform there, but I eventually decided on a GT75VR TITAN PRO-202 and I upgraded to the 4k screen because I wasn't sure if I would be happy with the TN panel and I figure if I am getting a GTX1080 I should get a 4k screen because 60fps is enough for me. More on that in a minute.... I upgraded to 32GB ram and ordered it with 2x 500GB Samsung 960 EVO PCIe NVMe SSDs (in RAID0) and a 1TB 7200rpm SATAIII 6gb/s drive. AND WOW IS THIS THING A BEAST. Kevin @GenTechPC was very helpful and although I am impatient and hoped to get my system faster, my order experience with them was great. but I have a few pros and cons with it and a couple questions I am hoping someone can help me with. Thanks in advance to anyone/everyone that helps.
First off the 4k screen is a great looking panel, the colors seem nice, to me anyway but I am not a pro at testing them for color accuracy or anything like that. But I wasn't aware that with this screen I wouldn't have gsync, or if I do I cannot find it, it isn't in my control panel. I read conflicting and apparently inaccurate information that it would run 60-75hz with gsync. Or a higher Hz @1440 or 1080. If this(gsync) is possible someone please let me know how. Because stuck at 60hz with no gsync isn't all that great, but I will survive I guess. Have second guessed my decision to not just keep the TN panel that it comes with.
My other problem is I am overclocked to 4.1ghz and undervolted -0.100V and getting high temps and thermal throttling running aida64 for 2 minutes or less monitoring it with HWinfo. core 0 hits 98c,and the others get kind of hot also. it never stays there it bounces up and down it seems (they all do which I thought was weird but this may be normal (yes/no?) I thought I should be able to overclock this to 4.2 at least without getting temps even close to that. It was repasted with IC diamond by GentechPC. Did I just get a bad re-paste? should I have used a different thermal compound? I have screenshots but I am unsure on how to post them.
What speed should I set the cache to?ram? I am not sure what values to set or are safe to set other than just s simple multiplier overclock and slight undervolt.
Also any tips/tricks, things I should do to or know about this system please let me know i'll gladly accept and and all help I can get, I have a lot of money invested in this and I want it to perform as good as I can get it to and I knew this was the place to ask. Sorry about writing a book LOL and Thanks again.

Hi JohnP
I'm looking to upgrade to this monster too but I've heard conflicting reports that it gets loud when doing standard tasks, while others say it's quiet, is that true on yours? -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Let's look at your temps and voltage.
Can you run HWINFO64 please, and do a CINEBENCH R15 stress test? Do 4 loops of it and use 100% fan speed. Then have the HWinfo64 window open when you take the screenshot. I want to see the temps, min/max on all cores, and the VID Min/max on all cores, please. Remember again USE 100% FAN SPEED !!!!
And please do not use DRAGON CENTER. If you have dragon center installed, please do the following:
1) uninstall dragon center. Then turn off the laptop.
2) reboot to BIOS, go to ICCMAX (VR Current Limit / CPU Current Limit) in the OC section and enter 800 for the value (divided by 4 = 200 amps).
3) save and exit. If you want software fan control after, use "MSI Silent Option" instead.John Pence and JeanLegi like this. -

EDIT: I guess I should mention that mine has been repasted with IC Diamond, but not sure if that is keeping temps lower just doing normal tasks so I cannot say for certain that the fans won't run on the stock thermal paste doing normal tasks but mine is silent. And until I figure out why mine is thermal throttling I am not sure the repaste helped me at all, but I plan on finding out lol.

Hi @John Pence
Yes, Dragon Center is the devil and stops some other things from working correctly (like ICCMax/VR Current Limit).
MSI Silent Option works on BOTH skylake and Kabylake (the chipsets are virtually identical), and this can be used.
http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/SilentOption_v1.0.1603.3101.zip
It is important to use coolerboost 100% max fans to test thermal paste applications, because you need to see if the paste is performing correctly. Automatic fans won't do that because temps will always get to 80C before the fans even start moving more than a tiny bit of air. So to keep things basic and simple, always test with 100% fan speed. Then you can use MSI Silent Option to change the fan curves as needed. And Silent Option will not mess up your Bios settings (it only communicates with the Embedded Controller).
Dragon Center is bad because it messes up some Bios settings without the user's permission. Namely, making VR Current Limit keep resetting back to 70A, which causes throttling at higher overclocks or CPU loads on 8 threads. It can also interfere with MSI Afterburner as well.
VR Current Limit increases the CPU amps power from the default of 70W. If it''s at default, some heavy loads, 8 thread games or tests can cause throttling, which shows up in Throttlestop as "EDP Other". BTW you really should try Throttlestop. It's a very nice program. Some users here hate it, but I love it and so do many others, like the mighty BGA hating brother @Papusan and the legendary @Mr. Fox
Once Dragon Center is completely removed, you don't even need Intel XTU (a program you have seen mentioned here before) at all. Everything Intel XTU can do is already in the Bios. The one setting you do not have access to (no program can access this) is the "IA AC DC Loadline" setting, which is important for advanced users to take control of MSI's "Voltage boosting" shenanigans. Do not worry about this now. You can deal with that in the future. For now however do NOT use "MANUAL" (override) voltages. Just use adaptive. a "problem" (or feature?) with the IA AC DC loadline causes manual voltages to far exceed what you actually set (again do NOT worry about this now. Fixing this requires a mod you may not be comfortable with, or donating to SVET on the official MSI forums (on their own website) for a handmade Bios unlock mod. So just use adaptive voltages.
Yes, set windows power plan to "high performance" please.
And try using Throttlestop 8.50. Very useful and you can control overclocks there too.
You can use Throttlestop 8.50 to take control of the CPU speeds, and MSI Afterburner to take control of the video card. No need whatsoever for Dragon Center!!
Anyway, before you do anything, can you first run that benchark test with HWinfo64 in the background? I want to see clearly what temps and voltages are reported when you reach 98C.
You also did not tell me what you used to "Undervolt" either.Mr. Fox likes this. -

Hopefully this has the info you wanted.
And I am getting EDP Other just with processor resting... it doesn't stay on, it flashes off and on.

I replied, but uninstall Dragon Center and Intel XTU (BEFORE uninstalling XTU, click "load default profile" in XTU first. to activate the defaults, then uninstall XTU afterwards.
Uninstall dragon center FIRST, then reboot the PC (power it off first), then uninstall XTU after (load default profile in XTU first), then after doing both,
Go into your BIOS and set "VR Current Limit "(ICCMAX) to 800.
This will fix the EDP Other problem.
Then you can undervolt with Throttlestop (Unlock adustable voltage, CPU core and cpu cache, and -100mv for core AND cache, both).
The temp problem is going to be harder to fix. Seems like a very bad paste job by Gentech PC...
*EDIT* to clarify, were you using 100% fan cooler boost button speed??Last edited: Apr 2, 2018Mr. Fox likes this. -

I'm sure this new processor is going to be like 5000x better than the 7820HK -
yeah with 6 cores and 12 threads I am sure it will be a lot nicer. And now I may have to send mine back. I should have waited... have you seen the price tho? it is a lot more money it seems , so maybe I didn't make a mistake, I dunno, everybody always wants the next big thing, its our nature.

@John Pence Can you try a repaste and repad as I mentioned in PM before doing the RMA?

Some games are starting to utilizes more core/threads and some still benefit from higher core clock, really just depends. If you do a lot of encoding/rendering/multi-threaded apps it will help a lot, if you stream games online it will also help a good amount but if all you're doing is regular media/gaming, the quad core is still more than enough for now xD.Vistar Shook likes this. -

I don't get why MSI can't use the new 144hz IPS panels that Asus is using in their new G703 with Coffee Lake. The 120hz TN panel is fine on the GT75VR but I would kill for that 144hz IPS 3ms G-sync.

Debated between 120 Hz FHD and the 4k screens for quite a while, but I think I am sold on the 120 Hz since I primarily use it for gaming. Getting this one most likely: http://www.hidevolution.com/msi-gt75-titan-094.html
Though no IPS is a great shame. -

1) There is no comparison with any other screen for how buttery smooth it is due to the 120hz refresh rate / 3ms response time
2) Even though it's a TN panel, it's one of the best TN panels out there with nice vivid colors and high Adobe RGB accuracy
3) Since it's only FHD, your games will not suffer as much and you can get way higher FPS
4) Windows 10 scaling is atrocious, you don't wanna deal with the crappy Windows 10 scaling having things blurred out or buttons chopped off or whatnot.
Be smart...be like Phoenix and stick to FHD on a laptop! Only consider a 4K screen when we're talking 32 inch and above monitors so then you can run them at 100% DPI scaling and still be able to see stuff.

5GHz Core i9 OC on a Laptop! - MSI GT75 Titan
Published on Apr 11, 2018
He didn't undervolt, and probably didn't test while OC'd, at least he didn't say he undervolted and the tests were presented while at stock before he OC'd. We need to wait for another review from someone with some more undervolt, tuning, and testing savvy, although he did a fine job.
Note: This video isn't the first time I'd seen the GT75 8950HK + 2x 230w PSU pairing mentioned.
Oddly enough MSI USA specifications page for the GT75 8950HK models only shows a single 330w PSU... hmmm, so the Global model gets 460w of PSU and the USA version only gets 330w? That's not good...
https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GT75-Titan-Intel-8th-Gen/Specification
Pretty weird. MSI USA doesn't import the GT83 with 8950HK, but ships it world-wide otherwise, and now MSI USA ships a lower power solution for the GT75 8950HK model? Or maybe it's a typo on the MSI USA GT75 Specification page?
@GenTechPC any idea what's up with the GT75 8950HK 1080 PSU situation? Do they come with 2x230w or a single 330w for the US model?
MSI Global GT75 specification page has this listed for PSU: 330W adapter / 2x 230W adapter (for i9 CPU)
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GT75-Titan-8RG/Specification
Interestingly the MSI Global GT75 1070 SLI / Single 1070 specifications page says this about the PSU: 230W adapter / 2x 230W adapter (for SLI or i9 CPU)
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GT75-Titan-8RF/Specification

@Donald@HIDevolution have you heard what the PSU compliment is for the GT75 with 8950HK in the USA?

The GT75 w/ Intel® Core™ i7-8850H and nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 come standard with 1x 330W AC Adapter, which is plenty for that configuration with a single GPU.
The GT75 w/ Intel® Core™ i9-8950HK and nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 come with 2x 230W with a very nice converter box.Last edited: Apr 13, 2018Spartan@HIDevolution and hmscott like this. -

Please read my old thread....
How does anyone in his right mind buy a 4K screen laptop? -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Are you sure you didn't mean "1070 SLI" here?
Because this is very bizarre for sure!
Because the 1070 SLI version of the 8950HK version (which doesn't seem to be available here, but seems to be "planned" somewhere) also comes with the 2x230W power supply.
There's absolutely no reason a 45W TDP CPU would use a 460W power supply on a 1080, unless MSI isn't telling us something...why would they need a 460W power supply for a 45W TDP CPU unless it can somehow go above 120W TDP....
The Delta 330W PSU can pull 380W from the wall before it shuts down.
Do you have the units open to check?
Two power bricks on a single video card is going to make some people unhappy....
please doublecheck this. Because the ONLY configuration that is supposed to have 2*230W PSU's is the 1070 SLI version and no others.
The 1080 single card should have 330W power supply regardless of H or HK CPU.
*EDIT*
Uh....So it does use 2x230W PSU according to the 1080 + 8950HK video...why doesn't the spec page say this anywhere directly?
Dear God...I wish I could review this thing and see how far I could push it after I unlock the Bios....But too bad that will never happen....Last edited: Apr 13, 2018 -

Because the 6 core CPU's can pull 120 watts in cinebench at stock turbo boost speeds.
I verified the GT75 comes with 2x230W for the GTX 1080 + i9 8950HK, and a single 330W for the 8850H + GTX 1080. I'm guessing the 1070 + 8950HK (if this model even exists) would use a single 330W. -

Can anyone tell me how he got a GT73/GT75 in the background like that with no red accents? If you pay attention from 10 seconds until 30 seconds mark to the background, there is a MSI GT Titan there. But the red accents on the vents in the back are painted black, the red accents on the screen lid are black and the MSI logo is yellow. I know resellers can have the logo custom made to another color but what about the accents? Is there a skin or something available? Vinyl wrap? Or did he take apart the chassis and repaint it? -
