The power throttle in kombuster means it does not find all errors.

I have a weird problem with my gt70 2od regarding ghosted ethernet, wi-fi and bluetooth adapters. Even after using the recovery partition and reseting to factory defaults, if I go in device manager and check show hidden devices I see two ethernet, wi-fi and bluetooth adapters, one ghosted and one active with #2 at the end. The device adapters in Network and sharing center also have a 2 at the end of the name. Does this happen to anyone else too?

Also bluetooth drivers seem not to work properly on Windows 8.1 although I use the correct version from MSI or Killer site.

I discovered all this when I saw that wi-fi connection to home network stopped working (wi-fi worked ok with other networks) but after factory reset it was fixed. I thought it was linked to the ghosted adapters but this is not related it seems.

So does anyone know what causes the ghosted adapters, even if recovery partition is used? This does not make much sense to me.

Were they duplicate of your actual hardware? Did you remove/reinstall the WiFi adapter?
Other possible root cause is the driver which has been upgraded then sometimes it does that.
Also, the issue you were having could be related to virus/malware since they could have modified the system, software-wise.

    Hi,

The actual hardware is fine, I never opened the laptop as it is two weeks old so is not a problem of moving the hardware in different slots. Indeed the names were duplicates of the actual hardware (the killer ethernet and wi-fi card plus some bluetooth enumerator devices).

It does that using the recovery image from the recovery partition. I doubt there are viruses in there. If I manually delete the ghosting adapters the problem goes away. The drivers are the stock ones that came with the laptop, I was not trying to update them.

The weird thing is that the image seems to come like this, with ghosting adapters on it, and I was curious if someone else had this problem.

As I said I saw the problem when I looked at the connection names which had a 2 at the end. I tried to rename them and the name was already in use. So this is how i found the ghosting adapters in device manager later. I used the recovery image after i deleted them and after recovery they were back :)

It's usually on the keyboard side (C) so it's not really convenient to access. it.

Hello. I am a proud owner of a MSI GT70 2OD-001us since its launch and i am very happy with it.
Today i decided to finally make a fresh install, which included a bios update.
Passed thru two updates and everything went ok BUT in the bios i just noticed that in the SATA information page there is an empty sata.
There are like 6 SATA to "use". 3x msata connectors, 1x hdd connector and 1x dvd connector BUT the 6th .. beats me.
I opened the lappy up and back but ill be damned if i can find that "ghost" sata.
This is mostly out of curiosity.
Thank you for you answer and keep on gaming.
PS: attached a pic of the bios page [IMG]

Don't be surprised as that's the total amount the hardware itself can support by design/specification, but the actual implementation isn't all of them thus why you weren't able to find the "ghost" connector.

The GT70 and the phantom port!

That or that "missing" connector is the eSATA port ;)

So do you think all the features of our little laptops will be supported on windows 10? I wish we could get dx12 but eh oh well. No support on 780m

Let me know if there is anything you want me to check. I didnt notice any problems yet.

Hybrid power is built into the firmware so should be untouched.

The only bit of software that does not appear to work is Sound Blaster Cinema (crashes on launch).

Just bought a new headset for gaming on my GT70 and PS4. I just noticed I couldn't find an optical port for audio on my laptop.

Am I blind or does this laptop not have one? Seems a bit lame that its got everything except this.

The audio output (headset) supports SPDIF, but it does not support optical output.

Today I was greeted by this
    [IMG]

    Both sides are cracked.
I wasn't particularly too harsh with it yet its not unbelievable because I used my pc too much.
I seriously take good care of my electronics.
You should be careful unlike me and use WD40 or loosen the nut if you feel resistance when closing the screen.

Will start searching for a replacement now. Asking service etc.
Can anyone tell me what was the model of this case was? I remember MS-1762 or something

Ok MS-1763 case. I'll now buy an LCD cover from EBAY/Aliexpress and replace it myself

Don't open/close the lid anymore, until you are able to repair it, otherwise the screw will damage the mounting hole by stripping and cause more cracks.

Thats for only windows store games. Like you cant install a package of a paid game by microsoft if you havent paid for yourself
News websites doing whatever they can for views as always.
    Also modded xbox games too.
edit: Read the eula again, its for microsoft owned stuff basically.

Nvidia Optimus drivers for Windows 10 are appearently broken. It just randomly switches between GPUs and freezes for half a second when it does.
This is what I'm currently using (355.98)

EDIT: It seems they dont have a direct download for 355.98

Get 353.82 and update from there
    Using Internet Explorer
    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ go here
and add this to basket in a new tab

    Hi everyone,

did any of you have others issues with W10 ?
i had synaptics program crashing, KLM not working anymore so i got back to good old W8.1 w/ Classic Shell...

anyway i have an issue with power boost, seems like it's not working since the battery isn't drained anymore and the CPU/GPU frequencies don't seem to move..
A while ago i got and installed the wrong firmware update, then installed the correct one. I don't know if it's coming from here.
I tried updating the BIOS/Firmware from old to recent versions, i even tried restoring factory installation with W8 but it's doesn't change anything
any other idea where this can come from ?

btw : i tried contacting the support but it seems like they have automated replies, because they keep telling the same tips over and over, regardless of your problem..

    I never thought I'd hear/read "good old W8.1." :vbtongue:

I take it you're referring to BatteryBoost(?). What was it MSI had you try, just so we're not recommending redundant steps to take?

Hey guys quick question, how do I bypass Nvidia optimus' issue on windows 7 with modern games? Besides disabling intel, and by that I mean the issue where it's stuck on integrated on newer games from 2014 and up. My 8.1 dual boot is fine but I don't have access to my monitor atm and I'm tired of going to 8.1 all the time for gta v, wow, dragon age inquisition, etc. Anyone got any patches?

You can update to the latest version of Nvidia driver which should contain the latest white list for newer titles. Otherwise, you can manually add a title's executable file onto the white list.

    See instructions below.

The driver is in the OS, you need to enable the hardware (Fn+F6) and use some software that does use the camera afaik (CameraRecorder, Simple Camera etc).

Yup, webcam does not require any drivers to work since the OS already contains it.
As zipperi said, press Fn + F6 to activate it, then use webcam app to verify it.

    Hello !
I bought my GT70 2OD-064US in 09/13 and it was working well until October (just after the end of my warranty...).
When I turn on the computer, it shuts down and restart before seeing the MSI logo. It goes in a loop where it does that 7 to 15 times then it finally boots normally. Once it's up, everything is fine and I can even restart the computer without any issues. I think the CMOS BIOS battery is dying but I was wondering if you had any other idea/suggestions of things to try.

It may be taking some time to warm up, this could be causing the material to expand slightly which is bridging a tiny gap in solder or connection somewhere. I would try reseating everything to see if that helps.

It's passed quite a lot of time since i upgraded the last time a bios, so i'm a little bit rusty.
I have a MSI GT70 2OD laptop and lately, to be precise yesterday, i've started to upgrade the bios of the graphic card, a GTX780M, with a modded one took from TechInferno, that would have given me the possibility to unlock not only the power and temperature target, but also voltages and many more options. During the process of flashing the bios no error has occured and the procedure went well, as also the consequent reboot. The real problem came out trying to log in in windos 10... black screen !! panic and fear... i thought the card was dead.
Nothing of that happened, at the subsequent reboot i was able to use the intel integrated and to login correctly and i discovered that Windows wasn't able to recognise the dedicated nvidia card and reported an error that stated out this "Windows is unable to load the necessary drivers. The device does not work properly. (Code 31) The drivers at boot time does not match the video card drivers that were running POST."
What the hell is this ?? Never ever seen it before ! I've been able to re-flash the card with the backup copy of the previous bios and now everything it's ok, but, at this moment, i can't upgrade the bios and i don't understand why !!!

Are the vbios you are trying to flash, recognized by the official drivers? when I used unlocked vbios on my GT60 for 780m, I had to use modified drivers that I had to install by disabling Windows certified drivers etc, forgot the name, otherwise the device would not work. Maybe that is what is happening to you?

Probably, but i have to be sincere, it's passed so long since i was better skilled with this crap, that now i'm feeling myself a newbie.
How i can found those modded drivers ? May you, courteously, explain me better what i have to do ?
This modded BIOS is the one from TechInferno and who did it is slv77, if i'm correct.

Hahaha sorry, it's been a long while since I went that road, and I no longer use the GT60 myself. What I remember is that you had to disable Window's Driver's certificate or something like that, so that you can install custom drivers. Then after flashing with custom vbios, you had to make a modded inf with your hardware ID and named it 780m so that nvidia drivers could find and install the drivers.

I honestly found all that a hassle and instead overclocked with the stock vbios to +135mhz core and around +400mhz memory. I only ever used the vbios to reach over 1000mhz core, and only did it for bench runs, not gaming.

Also make sure you are running the correct vbios for your GPU.

I did all this in windows 8, not sure if Windows 10 would react differently.

laptopvideo2go is a good place to get pre-modified drivers and yes it's in the advanced restart options to disable driver signing requirements for a single boot.

can anybody modify the MS-1763 Bios to use the device without MXM GPU ? At this time runs the FAN with max. speed. I use the Bios version 51D from MSI.
