That's the regular MSI warranty info for the system itself but battery is separated from the system with just 1-year which is the same as HP/DELL.
You can call MSI directly at 626-913-0828 to find out.

Hmm. It seems a bit odd to me that the battery isn't included in the "parts" warranty, but if that's the case, there's nothing I can do about it. I've already e-mailed XOTICPC where I ordered the machine from and will see what they say. If I have to go to MSI, I will, but hopefully the seller will be able to help. Thanks.

Edit: FWIW, I've tried discharging the battery more and letting it recharge, taking the battery out and putting it back in, and doing an EC Reset ( https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller), but the battery LED keeps blinking blue when it's fully charged at 100% power. The light works as expected as long as the battery is at 99% power or less though. It would stink to have to replace a battery that's only ~1.5 years old, but I'm kind of anticipating that that may be the only solution. Still, I'll see what, if anything, XOTICPC can do to help before looking to order a new battery.

It is unfortunate that some batteries can last longer while some cannot.
For warranty duration, It's an industry standard practice except ASUS (revised in 2010), see below for your reference.
Hopefully you do get a replacement.

I guess "battery as consumable" makes sense, but I've never considered a laptop battery as something to use for a while then throw away and replace, like regular AA, AAA, etc. batteries. But anyway. Since the battery is out of warranty, no, I don't think anyone's just going to give me a replacement. I expect I'll have to buy one if I want one, but I'm not sure I actually need a new one because mine still seems to be working as expected. I'll have to think about it. Thanks for your help.

Have you always kept the battery fully charged at 100% in the notebook?

You could try reflashing the bios/EC if you really want to give everything a try.

Yeah should be pretty much the same purpose.

However, all the actions are in the taskkill.bat so I first created the taskkill.bat under by C: root directory:

    fancontrol-1.JPG

And then I created a new task and just calls the taskkill.bat in the actions tab:

    fancontrol-2.JPG

So the new task will trigger the taskkill.bat.

    That's all I did. :)

    @Ken,

But u still haven't told me what ur Trigger is for the task... running ur taskkill.bat (which contains the precise commands in it) is the Action.

Screenshot ur Trigger tab for me. Because if ur Trigger is "At log on" then that may be a hit and miss?

The reason is that both the original task, Fan Control (which opens GT70 Fan Control.exe upon log on), as well as ur task (which closes GT70 Fan Control.exe upon log on), now share the same trigger.... so how will we know which task is going to take place first?

    ***
EDIT: I tried ur method of having both tasks' Trigger as "At log on" and confirmed it is indeed a case of hit and miss.

    - Sometimes the taskkill.bat will occurs before Fan Control, causing Fan Control to not be closed.
    - Sometimes the Fan Control will occur first and apply fan profile as well as open Hardware Monitor, then it is closed by taskkill.bat (which is the ideal situation).
    - Sometimes the Fan Control will occur first, but will not have time to apply fan profile and/or Hardware Monitor, before it is immediately closed by taskkill.bat
    - Worst of all is that sometimes due to the conflicting two tasks, the Fan Control task actually automatically becomes disabled.

In short, if ur going to use "At log on" (as opposed to my more complicated Custom trigger) as the Trigger for ur task, u will most likely need to add a delay in ur batch file.

    Changes:

Auto Close option added with adjustable time setting (default setting is 15 seconds, minimum is 5 seconds). Note: any changes will get saved when you close down the fan tool

Rivatuner statistics server updated to v6.20.

Any other changes to the update?

5 seconds is way too long, considering how fast the boot times are these days. The user probably wont even wait that long and just click X, which kinda defeats the purpose.

I'll prolly stick to my Task so that it closes instantly after applying the fan profile. In fact I've changed it so the trigger is the opening of Hardware Monitor, that way I can still manually open the program without it closing instantly everytime (since Hardware Monitor can't be opened if it's already opened).

If u don't mind me asking, wots the trigger u used to auto-close the program after 5 seconds? Thanks.

The auto close feature, in reality, may not be that useful so I may delete it from the program.

The 5 second limit was put in so that the user still had the ability to disable the auto close feature if they wanted to (any quicker the program will close before the user had time to navigate the preferences menu).

I use the tool and I want to thank you for creating this for the community. Your skills are highly valued and I hope people like you stick around, because if we lost these types of skills we would be very limited.

Has this tool been tested on GS, GE, or GT72 laptops? Might be of use to those users as well.

Thanks for feedback. I think it's not worth developing the software any further.
Unlikely it'll be compatible with GT72. So v1.6.3 is final version (v1.7 deleted).

you are welcome, I have used the application actually for when I am playing games in quiet places such as libraries
(I work to hard on my homework and get it done early in college) when I need cooling, but not too much noise, that's where 70 or 80 percent comes in handy

if you come into any ideas besides fan control that will come in very helpful, you are always welcome to share with us fellow gt70 users

Thanks to users like you, MSI is a great community. The fans were a notorious topic with most MSI laptops. GT models greatly benefit from having this as an option. Thanks for the software.

Hey man. Your barebones should work fine with either 970m or 980m.

I created a thread on the mod with how to do the mod to the heatsink and where to buy the cards on the cheap.

hmm... eventually I should try out a 980m upgrade, but first I gotta save away somewhere a link to a seller for the gpu, instruments needed, and instructions on a notepad or something. that way when I have time I can set it up and see how it does on multiple games.

780m was good back then but now the 900s have come around and I should try an upgrade as well as upgrade my cpu since mine might bottleneck the gpu

Don't keep your hope up on seeing an upgrade kit for "older" models. The only notebook recieving a kit for now is the GT72. If you want a 980m better learn some dremeling skills (unless you know your way ofcourse :D) and read Talon's thread on the how-to.

Yeah, there will most likely be no official kits for our machines and older models. We don't neet official kits to upgrade our machines though. If you have the money and patience, and excitement for a new gpu, read Talon's upgrade thread.

I got this issues as well on the recent GT72Pro. It is said to be a driver related thing. I could cure it (but not completely) by adjusting the gamma value of the screen.

This is a hardware function from the EC.
However, you can specify Intel as the primary processor for the program that you are running, or you can disable Nvidia GPU in your device manager which can prevent the power button from switching completely.

thanks for quick response. i definitly will try specify intel as the primary processor i think then will be the best suitable option for me. But I m quite embarrassed because I dont now what EC :( (btw I m from Czech Republic so my English can be little bit wrong sometimes :D)

and I didnt mention that reason main reason why i make that question on this thread was because of davepearson msi gt70 fan control
    edit:
well I tied to add fancontrol to nvidia control panel but and change it to intel 4600 as the primary gpu but as I figured out i think when I open fancontrol it keep checking temp on 780m because of open hardware monitor. So any ideas? I know that in version i think it was 1.6.0 there wasnt cpu and gpu monitor in the menu and a havnt any problem :(

Any hardware program that pings the GPU for temperatures will wake it, so you need to close that.

HI all hoping you can help. Looking to upgrade my MSI GT70-20D-001US, currently I have only one 128gb SSD + 750gb HDD and and I have spots for two more SSD so I'd like to add and looking for recommendations on where to get them, thinking two 128's like in the higher models. However I have not found the same ones as what is in my laptop Sandisk x100 SD5SF2-128G. I also have two slots open for ram while I got the back off so probably don't need more than the 16gb I have but thought maybe I'd add more also. Any help and suggestions would be awesome... Also if I add two new SSD drives do I have to anything special with them to make them all work other than format once I install?? Thank you all for the help..

    Wick

    Greetings:
I need help, i was updating the BIOS of my laptop msi gt70 2od-039us (dragon Editon2) WIN 8 then upgraded to 8.1 with this: E1763IMS.717.zip exactly as shown in ---- http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
I did step by Step, but in the step 12. BIOS info says: “System will power off and then power on automatically”…
The laptop, goes off, then appears black screen, cooler spins but never enter in the flash screen.
Please help me how i restart my laptop again, it’s possible or i need to buy a new motherboard?
    Thanks.
PD: I unplugged the battery CMOS and turn it on but still is in black screen. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You'll likely need to either RMA your system to MSI for repair (especially if it is still under warranty) or find a shop that can reprogram your BIOS firmware for you. I am currently fighting with MSI over a warranty RMA for my GT70 OD-089US (Dragon Edition 2 Extreme), because I don't think I should be responsible for paying for shipping my system to them, when it was their own negligence that created this issue. Oh well... I'll probably end up having to pay for the joy of being without my over-priced paperweight for 3+ weeks anyways, but at least yelling at them in such a reasonably polite manner is helping me deal with my frustration just a bit.

btw... They updated the BIOS update page today with an added flash step in the update process, so they are definitely aware that the 717 update is causing issues for owners whose current BIOS is between 700 and 708. If I remember correctly, my old BIOS was 707... Missed it by that much...

looks like I can drop the 980m case, that desktop gpu dock msi is making may be our solution, now I just gotta upgrade my gpu for a desktop 980. also, anyone have a good virus removal procedure? something that checks all places and removes all viruses, for free. need something because avast keeps finding something, but not through scans

Thanks, unfortunately, while I was using my old method to clean out my laptop, my old rival the "limited access" problem showed up, unfortunately, it's been stuck for a while and idk what to do, I already reset my Intel centreno drivers, but I still have a problem here. Weirdly enough, my windows 8 partition can connect just fine, so it's a 7 problem

avast sees combofix as a threat and a malware-gen

edit: its intel Centrino advanced-n 6235

latest update as far as I know, but I uninstlled it and all settings and then reinstalled, which is now 14.8.8.75
    from driver date: 12/5/2011

Got it originally instead of the newer Intel card because it uses more power and was stronger than the less power consuming Intel that was the other option

I don't think it's my wireless card because I just tried connecting with my old usb wireless adapter from my blurry player and got the same result

Disable your AVAST because it's false alarm.
The driver is outdated, try this one below.
Power cycle your wireless router too, and check if there's a newer firmware available for it as well.

Alright, I never touch it because it's my mom's, can you run me through it step by step? plus I never mess with wireless adapters in general, I always focused on hardware
(just tried xp mode on windows 7, connnected... it's gotta be something on the OS.)

When you ran XP mode, it's still running of the same hardware and device drivers, so it might be OS configuration then.
Driver install is simple, download and run setup to install, that's it.

Ok, updated my Intel chip, and unplugged my network boxes for 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Still no success in connection

Take screenshot of your desktop and network and sharing center, and then attach the images here.
